Two Stafford County men who were reported missing on Friday were found West Virginia on Monday.
Marion “Shorty” T. Sanders, 86, and Lawrence “Steamboat” E. Decatur, 77, both of Stafford County, told their families they were headed to Charles Town, W.Va., said Bill Kennedy of the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.
The area is known for its horse racing and casino gaming, however, Kennedy did not say why the two men were going there.
Their families became concerned when they had not heard from them and called police.
When authorities looked into the case, someone said they spotted the 1999 Lincoln Town Car the two men were driving, near Morgantown W.Va. — more than two hours away from Charles Town.
On Sunday night Kennedy issued a public plea for help for information on the two’s whereabouts.
He said police were concerned because Sanders was on high blood pressure medication, while Decatur takes medication for complications with emphysema.
Monday morning Kennedy said the two men were found in a small hotel in Braxton, W.Va., more than four hours driving distance away from Charles Town.
“Apparently they were looking for a cheap hotel when they were spotted by a citizen who had seen them on the news last night,” Kennedy said.
The two men are OK and their families are on their way to the mountain state to pick them up.
Police did not say the men were abducted or forced to the hotel against their will.
The announcement comes just 24 hours after the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office said they located another elderly man, who also disappeared from his home Friday.
Charles “Chuck” Bernard Jr., 86, of Stafford, was reported missing from his home around 2 p.m.
Police were concerned because his car was left in his driveway and he too takes medication.
Hours after a plea was issued Saturday night for information leading to his return, Bernard has found unharmed in Maryland.
More than 2,000 adults are reported in the U.S. each day, according to the Center for Missing Adults.
More than of all adults who go missing the U.S. year are men, according to the center.
