In 1973, the decomposing body of a young woman was discovered hidden underneath bushes near the Snake River in Idaho Falls. Thirty six years later, her killer has never been found.

Detectives re-opened this cold case because of new testing that was not available in the 70's that could identify a suspect.

The Bonneville County Sheriff's Office recently got some news about a person of interest in this murder.

Sgt. Doug Metcalf says more than a year ago they identified three men, all persons of interest who were in the area when Donna Lemon died. Investigators wanted to get DNA samples of these men to see if they are a match.

With DNA testing, one man was cleared, leaving two possible suspects investigators have identified. Now, a second DNA test is back from a crime lab in Florida that excludes the second suspect, leaving one more person of interest left to be tracked down and tested to see if he's a match.

On July 6th 1973, 20 year old Donna Lemon was reported missing from her home in Bozeman Montana. The next day, her light green Ford Mustang was found abandoned where the Idaho Falls Library now stands. There was blood inside the car.

Two days after that, a disturbing scene unfolded only blocks away. Her decomposing body was found. She had been stabbed, and her throat cut and under the victim's fingernails was skin from the suspect as she fought and clawed at her attacker.

The sheriff's office says homicides are top priority cases to solve and there is one more person of interest they want to locate.

Doug Metcalf: "The goal of the sheriff's office is to solve all cases. There are those that have been, the cold cases and that we're continuing interviewing, investigating and anytime we get information we do follow-up on leads and that and we would like to be able to solve this one."

When the sheriff's office is able to track down this third suspect, which they have been trying to do for some time, if he doesn't willingly allow for his DNA to be tested so he can be cleared as a suspect, then investigators will have to show they have evidence linking him to the crime, and ask a judge to give them a search warrant for the DNA.

The sheriff's office is still looking for anyone with information on this case to still come forward. You can remain anonymous tips can be called in to Crime Stoppers at 208-522-1983.
