Man Charged With Felony Attempted Murder In Case

APOPKA, Fla. -- A Central Florida man is accused of pouring hot cooking oil on a 17-month-old and using a hair dryer to burn his skin off because the toddler apparently would not stop crying and whining.

Police said Darlanne Toussaint was charged with felony attempted murder on suspicion he abused his girlfriend's son in an Apopka apartment building Thursday.

According to a charging affidavit, Toussaint poured the hot cooking oil on the boy, shook him hard for 10 minutes and then burned him with a blow dryer to the point that his skin fell off, Local 6 reported.

"It is alarming to think that an individual can cause this type of harm to a human being, let along an infant of 17 months old," Apopka police Officer Steven Popp said.

Investigators said Toussaint abused the infant "because he was tired of his crying and whining."

"The majority of us officers have children, and it is hard for a case like this not to affect you emotionally," Popp said.

The child is in stable condition at Florida Hospital.

Toussaint is being held without bond at the Orange County Jail, Local 6 reported.

how in the world could burning a child cause a lessening in crying???

I am the first to admit that I could get overwhelmed when my son was a baby. When I couldn't take it anymore, I would place him in his crib, turn on the music and take a power walk around the house. 5 minutes later I was ready to deal with a crying baby again.

why can't people just walk away???

rhetorical, I know, but these stories get to me more and more lately.

I'm in a small town about 50miles or so from Birmingham, and there's a guy there charged with capital murder (DP offense here) for beating to death his g/f's two year old child. He had bruising over 25% of his poor little body. He tried using the crying excuse, too.

IMO There's no excuse.

I agree with Mary. Their punishment should be just what they did to these babies. I always wished Susan Smith would get strapped into a car and drowned.

And we all know how a small burn can be so painful. I cannot imagine what this poor baby went through. It is mind boggling the heinous cruel acts being done to the innocent who are so defenseless and helpless.

Atleast they have arrested the mother too.

Quote:
The mother of the child, Marlita S. Stokes, 23, was arrested on Friday and faces charges of child neglect and providing false information to police.

Why do these POS mothers always try to cover for the abuser? Sheesh, no wonder these little children dont stand a chance.

That story breaks my heart and infuriates me at the same time.
I was a small child of three and had to go to the hospital to have my tonsils out. In the next bed was a little boy of 4 who was wrapped in bandages because he had burns all over his body because his mother wanted to teach him a lesson and decided to pour boiling water all over him.
This was many years ago and I had complications so I was in the hospital for four days with this child. I remember him so clearly, he would sit in a chair beside my bed and tell me stories by the hour and hold my hand so I wouldn't be scared. Imagine, he was so much worse off than I was and yet he was so loving, not concerned in the least for himself.
The memory of this little boy has stayed with me my whole life, I have never stopped wondering about him.

Prayers for yet another poor innocent child.

I wish I knew......all I remember is how scared I was and how safe he made me feel. He spent hours telling me stories, holding my hand and patting my back when I cried. His name was Perry and he is one of my earliest memories and I have never forgotten him.
At the time I didn't realize what an incredible child he was, but I have carried him in my heart my whole life.

My ex stepbrother's girlfriend burned her Daughter's feet up to her ankles so bad the skin fell off . This ugg mother said she was putting her in the tub and the water was to hot
But the firemen that arrived with the paramedics checked and said that even at the water heaters highest heat these burns could not have happened, that the water had to have been boiling.

My beautiful Niece's feet were/are permanently deformed. Thankfully it did not affect her walking after what healing could be done. But the blobs of skin has caused her to wear only slipper/moccasin type shoes.

She was 2 years old when this happened back in 1972. No charges were ever filed although I know one fireman tried. I also told him of other abuse and he seen the bruises and scares.

At least after this the (ugg) mom started letting me come get my Niece when she knew she was "getting to the point".
Strange too, she later had a Son she dotted on.
I heard some years ago this mom was being investigated in the death of her own mother.

Don't know what became of it. I walked away from most of my 'family' as soon as I was able and took my Son 1700 miles away from all the ugliness.

An Apopka man was sentenced to more than three decades in prison for what prosecutors call one of the most horrific cases of child abuse in state history.

Darlanne Toussaint, 24, was sentenced Wednesday for aggravated child abuse and neglect of his girlfriend’s 17-month-old son.

Toussaint admitted to pouring boiling grease on the boy’s genitals, burning his skin with a hair dryer, and then pouring alcohol on the wounds. The incident occurred in January.

“Anyone who does that, to me, is a person without a soul,” Judge Alicia Latimore said.

He was sentenced to 33 years.

He has no soul...I agree with this judge, too bad she couldn't give him more time than that...he'll soon be up for parole and then who is safe? :madranting94dp:
