Missing woman's family seeks help

http://www.connectamarillo.com/uploadedImages/kvii/News/Stories/missing%20woman(1).jpg?w=226&h=170&aspect=nostretch

Friday, February 13, 2009 at 6:41 p.m.

AMARILLO, TEXAS -- Sherry Ann Mondragon has been missing for over three weeks and Amarillo police have few leads.

ProNews 7 sat down with her devastated family.

"I want her to come home," said Rayann Sisneros, Sherry's daughter.

Sisneros spoke through tears about her missing mother but she is not ready to think the worst.

"I know that she's not here right now and I know that she needs to be and I know that I need her and we all need her," said Sisneros.

Sherry's father has dedicated his time to blanketing Amarillo with posters featuring her pictures. He is also still hopeful.

"I wish that I could go find her myself," said Al Mondragon, Sherry's father.

Though police found no evidence of foul play they have really found nothing at all hinting to her whereabouts.

"It'd be great if we had an idea of where to go but we've got the entire Panhandle. She could be anywhere in the matter of just a couple of hours. We just can't go... that'd be worse than the needle in the haystack," said Corporal Jerry Neufeld.

The Amarillo Police Department only sees missing persons cases like this one less than once a year. Through experience, they know that some people do not want to be found.

But Sherry's family says that's not the case.

"Sherry has always told us when she's going somewhere," said Al Mondragon. "She always leaves her car at our place when she's going somewhere. If she's going with someone out of town for something it's just not like her to leave without letting us know where her car is."

The family is begging for help finding her.

http://www.connectamarillo.com/uploadedImages/kvii/News/Stories/missing%20woman%202.jpg?w=226&h=170&aspect=nostretch

"I ask everybody to pray for us," said Mondragon. "We all need prayer now."

"It's been really bad," said Sisneros. "I've been crying a lot. I miss my mom a lot and I need her back."

With all of the emotion the family is feeling, they could not thank everyone enough: friends and people who have offered support during this time and police, who the family does feel are doing their best work.

"I still am hopeful they'll come knocking on my back door because she is a very sweet girl," said Mondragon.

55 year-old Sherry Mondragon is five feet tall, weighs a 150 pounds and has short brown hair.

She was last seen January 21st.

If you have any information about her disappearance call police.

Woman missing for two months
Woman said person was stalking her

Monday, March 16, 2009

Just before her daughter went missing, Celina Mondragon had a premonition.
"I have a weird feeling something's going to happen in the family," she told her husband, Al Mondragon.

Unfortunately, Celina's prediction came true. On Jan. 21, their oldest daughter, Sherry Mondragon, disappeared from her apartment complex. She's been missing for nearly two months.

The circumstances around the 55-year-old woman's disappearance have troubled her parents and friends, who believe she was kidnapped or even killed.

Connie Garcia has been friends with Sherry Mondragon for 10 years and believes she was abducted.

"She's never been out of touch with everyone in her life - ever," Garcia said. "What's disturbing is her car is in front of her apartment building. Nothing is missing. No money, no makeup.

"Something is wrong. Something is bad wrong."

There were signs of trouble in Sherry Mondragon's life before her disappearance. Sherry was being stalked.

Celina Mondragon said her daughter mentioned that someone was following her, but did not seem to think it was a big deal.

"We didn't take it that seriously," Celina Mondragon said. "Of course, we should have."

Al Mondragon searches Web sites dedicated to missing-persons cases each day hoping to find news of Sherry.

"I check them every day, and I call her phone every day," he said. "As you see, there is no answer yet."

The Amarillo Police Department is investigating the disappearance, but have little information to go on.

Sherry Mondragon was last seen at her apartment complex in the 4700 block of South Virginia Street between 10:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. Jan. 21.

She was wearing pajamalike clothing and may be with a man in his late 40s seen driving a tan, older-model Saturn.

Mondragon is described as having short, black hair with red-brown highlights. She has brown eyes and is 5 feet tall and weighs 150 pounds.

Amarillo police have investigated 19 cases of missing adults this year, and 14 of those persons have been found.

Family and friends are convinced Sherry Mondragon was forcefully taken, but police have little evidence to prove or disprove that assertion.

"We don't have any indication she is willingly missing. We don't have any indication she's not willingly missing," said APD Sgt. Brent Barbee. "They are actively working on this case and there are still things being done."

Sherry Mondragon's family is anxiously awaiting any information from police.

Recently, Celina Mondragon had another premonition, one she hopes is wrong. It's the feeling that her oldest daughter, referred to as "the baby of the family," is dead.

"It's just a feeling. I felt that right away," Celina said. "I hope it's not true."

I just don't think she went willingly. I hope I'm wrong.

Judy Pedeliski on March 19th, 2009 10:58 pm Al, Celina and family,
I am Jimmy’s sister in Norh Carolina and have tried to keep updated. Lindsey knows as much as me. Not much. Just want you all to know we have kept Sherry lifted up in prayer at my church. My heart is sadden that someone could take a families precious baby away. A mother, sister, daughter, aunt, friend. I experienced my child gone for 2 weeks. Not knowing whether she was alive or dead. I prayed and prayed and the Lord brought her home safely to me. I praise and thank the Lord daily for her return.
Continue to walk in obedience to the Lord. He will not give us more than we can bear.
Ps.25:4 Show me the right path,Oh Lord; point out the road for me to follow.
Phi. 4:13 I can do all things, through Christ who strengthens me.
2 Cor.4:1-18 great word!
Sherry believed in our Lord Jesus Christ. She possibly suffered. Just have comfort in knowing His arms are comforting her and she is safe.
I saw her January 2008 at my aunt Joyce’s funeral. She made an effort to come and be with us. My memory of her was she let her light shine BRIGHTLY. Hugging us and her warmth. It meant a lot that she took time out of her busy schedule to come be with us.
Al, Celina,Terri, children of Sherri, grandchildren, just know you all are in our prayers. God is an awesome God. Read His word, pray, meditate on His word daily. Trust and keep your faith. When you are weak, He is strong. He will see you through it all. Believe! In Jesus Name I pray. Praise the Lord for His blessings.
God’s Blessings,
Judy Pedeliski, sis in law to Terri. Jimmy’s sister

I was just on "America's Most Wanted" website and Sherry is not on there. I believe it would be a good idea for the family to submit her info to AMW. They have a very good track record and they can mention her case on NATIONAL television. Just a suggestion. Tryng to think of more ways to help.

It might be a good idea to ask them about it, Evin, if you know them.

Suggest also that they get in touch with news achors and reporters, and see if you can get her story more coverage.

Victim's death ruled homicide
Missing woman shot once in back, police say

By Sean Thomas
Web-posted Wednesday, April 29, 2009

The death of 55-year-old Sherry Mondragon has been ruled a homicide.
The body of the Amarillo woman, missing since January, was found last weekend in a garage at 1300 N. Spring St.

A man searching for junk to sell found Mondragon's body beneath several items and wrapped in a material police have not identified.

Potter County Justice of the Peace Thomas Jones said Tuesday that Mondragon was shot once in the back.

Lt. Gary Trupe, coordinator of the Potter Randall Special Crimes Unit, said a pathologist who conducted the autopsy could not indicate a time of death.

"It is very, very possible she has been deceased ever since she was reported missing," Trupe said.

The decomposition of the body has made determining a time difficult, he said.

Police said Mondragon's slaying likely did not occur where her body was found.

Mondragon went missing from her apartment complex in the 4700 block of South Virginia Street. She was last seen alive between 10:30 and 11 p.m. on Jan. 21.

Her family and friends have talked previously about a man who was stalking Mondragon. That man was cited for trespassing at Mondragon's apartment complex, police said.

Trupe said police were able to identify the man over the course of the missing-person's case and have spoken with him. Trupe declined to say whether he was questioned as part of the homicide investigation.

Trupe also would not comment on other people who were interviewed as part of the investigation.

"There have been numerous people interviewed prior to her being found deceased and we have interviewed people since Saturday," he said.

Missing Amarillo Woman Meets Tragic End
Reported by: Ashley Alderman
Thursday, May 14, 2009 @11:16pm CST

Sherrie Ann Mondragon is the Amarillo woman, who mysteriously went missing and met a tragic end.

She went missing on January 25th.

No one had seen or heard from her in days.

Police started investigating, but never found any information about where Sherrie could be.

At the time, they said it was possible she left on her own.

A month after Sherrie went missing, her parents refused to believe that was a possibility.

Evidence she'd left on her own never surfaced.

Evidence Sherrie hadn't left on her own never surfaced either.

It wasn't until three months to the day she was reported missing, she was found.

Her body wrapped up inside an abandoned house.

An autopsy revealed Sherrie had been shot once in the upper body.

Now, police are still investigating making progress and hoping new leads will identify a suspect.

Police say they don't believe the man who found the body is involved with the crime.

This week police released a picture of the rug Sherrie's body was wrapped in.

They hope the public will be able to give them clues about it.

Sherrie's family declined to do another interview with us.

They say police have asked them not to talk to the media during the investigation.

Amarillo's Unsolved Mysteries

Reported by: Ashley Alderman

Monday, Jun 8, 2009 @09:38pm CST

AMARILLO -- A couple of unsolved murder cases in Amarillo continue to keep police busy.
Police aren't calling them cold cases because they're still actively searching for the killers.

One of those cases has just recently been re-opened, so it's not considered cold anymore.

That's the case of Bambi Lynn Dick.
She was known as Jane Doe for 25 years.
She was found strangled on the side of the road.
Amarillo Police are now trying to investigate who could have killed her.
In fact, just a couple of weeks ago they went to Bambi's hometown of Davenport, Iowa to search for clues.

:1222423:
Then there's the tragedy of Sherrie Ann Mondragon.
Her body was found wrapped up in a rug inside an abandoned house.
She'd been missing for more than three months.

Police are still searching for 30-year old David Abran Anaya.
They think he's involved with the recent murder of 18-year-old Eric Mireles.
Police questioned him, but now they can't find him.

Another case police are investigating is the mystery of Kevin Walsh.
His head was found in a trash truck more than three years ago, but he wasn't identified until recently.
Now police are trying to figure out how he died.

AMARILLO---The suspect in Amarillo's latest murder case is still on the loose.

But, police are saying today, Sherry Ann Mondragon was probably killed by someone she knew.
Police have new leads in the investigation and they don't think it was a random act.

Preliminary autopsy results came back yesterday.
She was shot one time in the upper body.
Mondragon was missing for three months.

Her body was found Saturday in an abandoned garage on North Spring.
"The person took her, hid her, the way they put her makes me think it's personal, that someone knows her, it's almost like somebody who cared a little bit about her," says Lieutenant Gary Trupe.
Police say if you know anything at all, call them at 378-9468.

Police Release Evidence In Mondragon Case
Reported by: David Martinez
Tuesday, May 12, 2009 @05:47pm

AMARILLO -- Pictures of a nine by six area rug have been released in the death of Sherry Ann Mondragon.

Investigators hope somebody will recognize the unusual rug her body was wrapped in. The fifty-five year old was found dead after being missing for nearly three months. Autopsy results show she was shot once in the upper body. Police believe Mondragon was probably killed by someone she knew.

"The design on the rug, it's kind of a reversible deal where on one side it's darker and the other side it's lighter. But we think that somebody's gonna recognize the birds that are on here facing each other it's kind of unique," says Lieutenant Gary Trupe of the Potter-Randall Special Crimes Unit.

Trupe believes the rug is foreign made. At this point, investigators don't have an exact time of death for Mondragon.

AMARILLO - Amarillo police have new photos of key evidence in an unsolved murder case.

They are new pictures of the rug where murdered woman, Sherry Ann Mondragon was found back in April. Police hope somebody recognizes this 6 X 9 area rug. As you can see the rug is very distinct.

Investigators say it's foreign made. The discoloration you see comes from the different states of decomposition Mondragon's body went through. Autopsy results showed she was shot once in the upper body. If you have any information about this rug, please contact Amarillo police.
