Winnsboro Family: "Please Help Us Find Our Daughter's Murderer"
19-year-old Brittany McGlone of Winnsboro was murdered, Friday May 4th. Authorities tell KLTV 7 her body was found off of County Road 4837 at her boyfriend's house near Lake Winnsboro.
Today (Monday, May 14th), for the first time Brittany's family spoke about her daughter.
Brittany's mother, Patricia Tice said her daughter was truly original, a young vibrant girl with a bright future.
"She was all about family. She loved her family. Her family loved her. We still love her," said Patricia Tice. "She had the biggest heart and loved everyone unconditionally." "She loved: to sleep, T-shirts with funny little sayings on them, flip flops and blue jeans. She was always a tomboy. The only time she had makeup on her face was when her step-mom put makeup on her for her senior prom. That was the only time she ever wore makeup."
Brittany graduated from Winnsboro high school, last year. She had taken a year off before heading to college, and was working two jobs.
"When she would be at work at night and she'd have a break she'd text me in the middle of the night. (She did that) every night, and say 'hi mom, whatcha doing, how you feeling?' She was just always checking on everybody," said Tice.
Brittany's grandma, Hazel Bumpous, says the two shared a special bond, "She was our world. Somebody took that away and I will never be the same without her."
"She was so very precious, she was alive till the very very end," said Tice. "This tragedy has united broken families, and its united this community. Even in death look at all the good she's done for us."
The family wants East Texans to know: "Families and friends hold each other and never miss an opportunity to say I love you. Thank you for every kind word and prayer. Please please help us find our daughter's murderer."
Wood County Investigators say they do have suspects, but are waiting on DNA results to come back. If you have any information, you're asked to call the Wood County Sheriff's Department.

Brittany's Story
It was recommended to me by some of the great people I came in contact with at Gretawire.com that I start a blog.
My daughter, Brittany Danielle McGlone, 19, was tortured, raped and murdered in Winnsboro, Wood County, Texas, May 4, 2007. She was my only daughter; a daughter any mother would be proud of. She graduated high school in 2006, and was working two jobs and helping care for her blind, disabled grandmother and two younger brothers at the time of her death. She had just fallen in love for the first time. We did not approve of her choice; in fact, I felt a sense of foreboding as I got to know the young man. He and Brittany were as different as night and day; she hated cigarette smoking and drug use; he smoked and had a history of drug abuse. Brittany was very particular about her appearance, although she was a tomboy, she was always impeccably groomed, neat and fresh. He was sloppy, scruffy and just downright messy. I think her falling in love was a shock to us; Brittany really led all of us around by the nose and we were just not used to sharing her. Beyond the differences, it was just not like Brittany to be crazy about a boy. They met when she was nearly 19, she had never been one to date. She had gone to her senior prom with one young man and another one had fallen in love with her, but she was never serious about him or pursuing a relationship with him.
Brittany's first love broke up with her one month prior to her murder. She was inconsolable! Even though my heart was breaking for her, I was secretly relieved. Everyone who cared for Brittany knew this was not the right choice for her. Brittany's heart was in it, though; she continued to have communication with the young man until they were soon seeing each other again.
She was in the home of this boyfriend when she was murdered sometime between 8:30 am and 3:30 pm May 4, 2007. He shared the home with his mother, step-father, half sister and half brother. They left Brittany alone in the home while the siblings went to school and the parents and boyfriend traveled to DFW to retrieve a grandparent. I thought nothing of her not coming home that morning, Brittany had told me the evening before that she may go straight to the boyfriend's home when she got off work early the next morning. The boyfriend called me from his cell phone at 2:20pm Friday, May 4, 2007 and asked if Brittany was home. I understood her to be with him, and figured she may be on her way home from his house. When she had not arrived 50 minutes later, I called her cell phone which she did not answer. I called the boyfriend back, already panicked and asked him if he had found Brittany. He replied yes, she is there sleeping. I excitedly told him she was not answering her cell phone and that this was just not like her at all. He said he knew, but she is sleeping hard. I asked him to tell her I love her and call me when she wakes up. He said ok. What I did not know was at the moment he was hanging up the phone with me, he was walking into his room, finding Brittany dead in bed of massive head trauma.
The boyfriend did not call me back to tell me the truth; that Brittany was not sleeping, she had been tortured, raped and murdered. Two Wood County Sheriff's deputies came to our house a few hours later and asked for Brenda or Debbie. My name is Patricia and there is no one in our home with either of those names, so when I heard who they asked for, I left my mom and youngest son talking to the police. After they left, my mom said the deputies had mentioned the last name "McGlone," Brittany's last name. I had a feeling of sheer panic. My middle son and I were on our way to the boyfriends house to find out what was going on, in fact, he was already in the car. I decided to call Wood County Sheriff's department back before we left. The sheriff himself got on the phone, told me to stay put and he was sending the deputies back over. When they arrived, they asked to speak to me in private. We had just sat at the dining room table when one of them informed me "Your daughter is deceased." The next few hours are a blur, but I do know they refused to tell me the manner of death. They told me she was already at the funeral home. When I called the funeral home, I was informed that her body was on its way to Dallas for autopsy. The funeral home employee was the first person to tell me Brittany had been brutally murdered.

Lethal Injection
The Supreme Court showed its civil courage April 16, 2008; turning back the challenge to Kentucky's lethal injection procedure by a 7 to 2 vote.
The argument was that if the initial anesthetic fails to act, the other two drugs may cause excruciating pain. The two death row inmates asked that the procedure be changed to a single barbiturate in high enough doses to cause death. Ironic that convicted murderers discover a shred of humanity only when confronted with their own deserved execution. Death row murderers have already been afforded far more mercy than they deserve and far less mercy than what was shown their victims.
"Do not accept a ransom for the life of a murderer, who deserves to die. He must surely be put to death." Numbers 35:31
"Justice too long delayed is justice denied." MLK, Jr.
The dead cannot cry out for justice, it is a duty of the living to do so for them."

No title for a mother who has lost a child
A parent less child is an orphan; if you have lost your mate, you are a widow or widower. What word is there for a mother and father who have lost their child? I physically ached for Brittany when I was finally faced with the reality that I had lost my only daughter to violence and at this nightmare that had suddenly become my life.
My heart broke for my sons, they were devastated. As were my parents, my brother and sister and well, everyone who knew and loved Brittany. It was absolutely unthinkable that someone would want to hurt her. We were quickly surrounded by lifelong friends who never left our sides through that first night.
It was just unthinkable that 24 hours earlier she had kissed me, told me she loved me; now I was planning her funeral.

ONE YEAR
The family and friends of Brittany Danielle McGlone endured the one year mark of her murder with heavy hearts, tears and more questions than answers.
Our sorrow over the loss of Brittany is intensified by feelings of helplessness and hopelessness that we have been unable to obtain the justice she so richly deserves. More frightening, someone in our midst has gotten away with murder for an entire year.
Brittany's family would like to extend heartfelt thanks and appreciation for all of the hard work, patience, support and civil courage shown us by friends, acquaintances, and those county and state employees who are committed to bringing Brittany's murderer to justice.
If you have any information regarding Brittany's assault and murder, please contact Crimestopper's at (903) 763-2274. A $1000 Crimestopper's reward is being offered if information provided results in grand jury indictment of the person or persons responsible for the brutal assault and murder of Brittany Danielle McGlone which occurred on May 4, 2007, between 8 am and 3 pm in a private home on Lake Winnsboro.

Letter from the Texas Rangers-May 26, 2007
Ms. Tice,
I would like to offer you and your family my condolences for the tragic loss of your loved one. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)/Texas Rangers had been made aware of Brittany’s death by the Wood County Sheriff’s office prior to your correspondence with us. They have requested our assistance in making the DPS Crime Laboratory available to process evidence and additionally requested that a DPS polygraph operator be utilized in this investigation. The Rangers have thus far had no other requests for assistance in this investigation.
DPS recognizes that the responsibility for investigating violent crime lie’s with the local agency within the jurisdiction where the crime occurred. We normally become involved with investigations when the agency(s) involved request our assistance. Some agencies utilize our services almost exclusively with violent crimes while other agencies utilize our services rarely, generally depending on their capabilities and their investigation resources. We encourage all law enforcement agencies, in particular the smaller agencies, to take advantage of the investigation assistance we can provide for them. However, some agencies fail to utilize the full benefit of our services and resources.
The most opportune time for us to become involved with an investigation would be at the onset of that investigation, but we can assist at any point if the investigating agency makes the request. We do not force ourselves on those agencies or their investigations, nor do we take their investigations over without a request from them or a request from the prosecuting attorney in that jurisdiction.
Respectfully submitted.
Jerry B. , Lieutenant
Texas Rangers, Co. "B"

"At around 3:43 p.m. a woman called 911 from a residence on CR 4837 in Wood County and told operators a female at the house had been assaulted. When sheriff's deputies arrived on the scene, they discovered the body of Brittany Danielle McGlone of Winnsboro - she had been murdered.
According to preliminary autopsy reports, Miss McGlone died from massive trauma to the head.
"
My heart breaks everytime i read things like this.

When I was double checking all of these facts for the producers of AMW and Keith Greenberg (true crime author with the ear of AMW), TJ Ward (a private investigator volunteering time and knowledge to the investigation) and Stacy Ferguson (an attorney in Sulphur Springs who has so graciously volunteered to help in any way she and her firm can), I was shocked to finally realize that Carr has outstanding balances on at least two of his felony convictions.
Why didn't THAT keep him incarcerated?

Dear Mr.
Greenberg,
Thank you for your interest in the unsolved murder of my only daughter, Brittany Danielle McGlone.
She was found beaten to death in the home of her boyfriend, Jeff Stogner,on Lake Winnsboro, Winnsboro, Wood County Texas May 4, 2007 between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm.
There is a suspect in the case, Chad Earl Carr. He was the boyfriend of my daughter's boyfriends sister, a mildly retarded high school senior.
He has a criminal history in Wood County as follows:

07/21/06-SEXUAL ASSAULT (ENHANCED)
1st Degree Felony
The suspect was released on a $10K bond 7/17/8, after having been arrested 4 weeks after Brittany was murdered on a sexual assault which occurred approximately 1 month after his release from prison after the aggravated assault conviction. The 2001 assault was perpetrated with the intention of rape, but this psychopath stopped short of killing her, but drove her to the hospital after having beat her about the head and face with a lead pipe.
The current charge, enhanced sexual assault, was perpetrated against the suspects own ex-wife when she travelled to Texas upon his release to let him meet his daughter who was evidently born while he was incarcerated. He raped the victim in front of their child.
He has not been charged in Brittany's murder. None of the forensic evidence has implicated anyone! I was told that whoever killed Brittany entered that room wrapped in Saran Wrap. I am repeatedly chastised and chastened by the investigators in charge of Brittany's case for my impatience and they have at times tried to silence my voice, but I have no doubt that there will be another victim soon.
If that happens, I want to be certain my conscience is clear; I have done everything in my power to try and prevent an additional heinous crime against a beautiful, innocent young woman. It is difficult to believe that the investigators truly grasp the need for immediate action when they are so casual and do not appear alarmed that this guy is out; surely plotting and planning another "perfect murder." I was not given ANY notice that the suspect was having a bond reduction hearing in July, 2008. When I learned of his release and voiced my concern for the welfare of my family, friends and the citizens in the surrounding communities, I was told "oh, that kind of thing only happens in the movies." I was also shocked to learn that NO communication had occurred between Wood County law enforcement officials and their counterparts in Marion County, his release address.
I know the investigators are only human and they assure me they are doing all they can to obtain justice for Brittany. They cannot truly know what this can do to a family unless they have walked a mile in our shoes.
In addition to obtaining justice for Brittany, my aim is to mobilize for sweeping legislative change regarding three strikes you're out, lenient sentences for repeat offenders, especially those of a sexual nature and improved, mandatory sensitivity training for all public officials who deal with survivors of violent crime.

Cold Case; 1 Year After Murder, Family Wants Answers
The brutal murder of 19 year old Brittany McGlone May 2007 is still unsolved.
Last year, I sat around this same table listening to Brittany's family members tell about the light, that was taken from them
"She was very precious girl. Very precious to me," said Hazel Bumpous, Brittany's grandmother, "Brittany didn't have a choice. It was taken from her. It was not right. Not right at all. Our family has been through hell. My grandsons are angry."
Thursday Brittany's family invited me to their home to talk about the past year, and what they are doing now.
"It's been the most horrible year of my life and I want to do something to find this person," said Hazel.
Hazel has set up a reward fund at First National Bank started with her own money to help find Brittany's killer. She is asking the city and area businesses for help.
"To match my donation. I don't care if they can't give but a penny. Anything that they can give will be greatly appreciated," said Hazel.
She says she's doing this all because Brittany deserves justice.
"That's what I want. I want the right person found," said Hazel.
Now the Sheriff's department told me they do have suspects who they can't name yet but they are waiting on evidence, DNA evidence before they can make any arrests and get some answers for the family.
"We need closure. Our family needs closure to find the right person and get him off the street," said Hazel.
But even if this helps put Brittany's killer away, Hazel says their pain will never be erased.
"There is one pretty big picture in there. Her eyes are so bright. I know that they are not like that anymore," said Hazel.
If you would like to help contribute to the reward fund for Brittany you can contact First National Bank Winnsboro (903) 342-5275.

Britt's mom made these post on SM
The 18 month mark since Britt was murdered was recently reached. It is not acceptable at all to me that Britt's murder remains unsolved; the suspect with a history of 3 criminal convictions is free to live, work, laugh, sleep, eat and more than likely, murder again.
We get to visit Brittany Sunday, her 21st birthday at a cemetery. It goes without saying this will be a particularly painful weekend for our family and all of Britt's friends and champions, like you kind people here. The sting of the loss of her even harder to take because we have failed to secure justice for her. How much more unbearable will that pain be if the monster who murdered Brittany kills, beats or rapes another young woman in the community he now lives in?
I am slowly but surely working on all of your tips, ideas and suggestions. My health is very bad and our family has had several life and death crises over the past several days, weeks, months and years.
God bless,
Patricia, Brittany's mom

Hi ***** and *****,
I was reading an article about Florida passing out "Cold Case" playing
cards to its prisoners and jail inmates,
How hard would it be to get a similar deck with Texas unsolved cases
(including Britt) to distribute to TDC and
county jails throughout Texas?
Thanks in advance for any input you can give.
Patricia
Her reply:
I don't think our guy is in TDC. I doubt they would consider it a cold
case with the evidence (as small as it may be) we have on ****. We'll
talk about it. We could also talk to them about TDC Crimestoppers.
My reply:
Sorry, *****, Crimestoppers (Wood County Crimestoppers, anyway) is another joke to me and Britts family. They cannot increase the reward for a capital murder case from $1000? Come on, Britts life was definitely worth more than a grand.
They would not even commit to advertising information needed leading to the indictment of the person responsible on our local access TV channel.
I know "our guy" is not in TDC, but someone he bragged to may be.
I will look into it and see what I can do myself.
Thanks anyway,
Patricia
Her reply:
I'm not talking about Wood County Crimestoppers. TDCJ has their own crimestopper program. The info goes to inmates only. I will look into both options, like I told you in the other e-mail. You will not be able to do it yourself. I will take care of it.
And my final reply:
Thanks, *****. I was thinking of maybe having cards made up with britts pic and a limited amount of information and donate them to local jails and prisons. I bet I could get a good deal if I ordered in bulk. That can be plan B if you are not able to motivate some people to help.
What is your opinion of us retaining a lawyer?
Thanks again, you do not have to respond to me this evening; these are not urgent matters!
God bless you for your dedication,
Patricia
Just a sample of the awful treatment we have endured since Brittany's murder.

Cold case murder being revisited
Updated: Feb 19, 2010 1:31 PM CST
WINNSBORO, TX (KLTV) - Nearly three years after Brittany McGlone, 19, of Winnsboro was murdered, Wood County investigators are revisiting the crime scene and asking for your help.
On May 4th, 2007, McGlone body was found inside her boyfriend's home near Lake Winnsboro along County Road 4837.
The 19-year-old died of massive trauma to the head. Still, years later, no one has been punished for the heinous crime.
For Brittany's dad, Ron McGlone, every day is a battle.
"They say everything happens for a reason and God has a plan, but I have a real hard time seeing this one," said McGlone.
Living with the unsolved murder of his daughter, knowing her killer is still free.
"We're not going to get closure but if somebody knows something, I mean, I don't have a whole lot but I'd give anything I had..." said McGlone.
Wood County investigators say Brittany McGlone was bludgeoned to death inside her boyfriend's home. That boyfriend and his family claim they returned and discovered her body.
"It was somebody that knew her and knew who was in the house," said McGlone.
Lieutenant Jerry Blaylock says they have suspects but still no motive.
"The lack of information coming forward is probably the most difficult," said Blaylock.
He is asking Brittany McGlone's friends and anyone who was near Lake Winnsboro at that time to contact them.
"Just any general information," said Blaylock. "Anybody that was on the lake fishing that day."
"Come see me personally," said McGlone. "I mean, you don't have to tell who you are or nothing. You'd be a long-time friend of mine, you know, forever."
For McGlone, not a minute goes by without missing his daughter and her love for life.
"You could be having a bad day and she'd make a joke or smile or just...Didn't seem like she ever had a bad day," said McGlone.
To whoever did this, he says it's not too late.
"Turn your own self in," said McGlone. "You want to go to heaven. I'm sure everybody does but at this point it don't look good for you."
And, until her killer is off the streets McGlone won't rest, and the Wood County Sheriff's Department won't stop hunting.
Wood County Crimestoppers is offering a reward in the case, and the sheriff's department says you can keep your name anonymous. For a contact email and phone number, click here.
