Remains found in 2 drums; Casa Grande man suspect
Associated Press - February 2, 2009 9:54 AM ET
FLORENCE, Ariz. (AP) - A Casa Grande man has been arrested in the discovery of human remains in two 55-gallon sealed drums.
The Pinal County Sheriff's Office says 56-year-old Ramon "Ray" Duran was booked Friday on two counts each of first-degee murder and unlawful disposal of human remains.
A statement issued by the sheriff's office says the remains in 1 of the drums have been identified as those of James Emede, an Arizona City resident reported missing in 2007.
It says the remains in the other drum are believed to be those of another Arizona City resident, Sandra Dickey, also known as Sandra Starns, who also was reported missing in 2007.
Autopsies determined both victims had been shot
A call from an unidentified person led to the discovery of the drums by the sheriff's office.

Two bodies found in drums, man charged
Pinal Sheriff's Office: Victims were missing for nearly a year
February 03, 2009
A 56-year-old Casa Grande man has been charged in a double murder by the Pinal County Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit after the remains of two people missing nearly a year were found in 55-gallon drums.
Ramon "Ray" Duran was arrested Friday on two counts each of first-degree murder and unlawful disposal of human remains.
Duran was booked into the Pinal County jail in Florence. He is being held without bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled Feb. 10 in Eloy Justice Court.
In February 2008 missing person reports were filed for James John Emede, 40, of the 9000 block of Lesna Drive in Arizona City and Sandra Dickey (aka Sandra Starns), 38, of the 200 block of Third Avenue in Casa Grande.
A call from a citizen to investigators followed the discovery of two 55-gallon sealed drums in a desert area north of Arizona City in December.
Detectives discovered that the drums contained human remains. One contained the remains of Emede. Confirmation of the second victim is pending DNA comparison. However, other evidence strongly indicates the identity of the second victim to be that of Dickey, reports showed.
The Pima County Medical Examiner's Office has determined that both victims had suffered gunshot wounds prior to being placed in the drums.
Family members told detectives that Dickey and Emede had a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship.
Several other people were interviewed and their involvement is being reviewed by the Pinal County Attorney's Office.
Duran lived in the area of Thornton and Hanna roads southwest of Casa Grande.
Emede was last seen Feb. 21 at his home, according to the original sheriff's report. He left the house with a female friend, saying he would be back later that evening. His pickup truck was found the next day in the fenced yard of a business off South La Rambia Road in Arizona City with his cell phone and wallet inside the truck. His sweater was inside one of the buildings and there appeared to be signs of a struggle.
Friends and family members last year posted flyers and canvassed the town and surrounding area in hopes of finding the missing couple.

What, if any, was the relationship between the murderer and the two victims. Anyone know? Such a cold blooded thing to do.
