Woman abducted from Pearland parking lot
Published February 4, 2009
PEARLAND — Authorities located the black Cadillac of a woman reportedly abducted at gunpoint from the parking lot of a clothing store but have not found the woman, police said Tuesday evening.
Susana DeJesus, 37, of the 10000 block of Sagegate Drive in Houston was leaving work at the boutique in the 2700 block of Smith Ranch Road about 9:15 p.m. Monday, Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Russ Baker said. She is assistant manager at the store.
As DeJesus and a female friend walked to DeJesus’ black 2008 Cadillac, a black man wearing a pullover mask approached and showed the women a silver handgun, Baker said.
“He put her in the vehicle’s driver’s side and she moved over,” Baker said. “He got in behind her and drove from the parking lot. The witness could not give a description because the man was wearing a mask.”
The abduction wasn’t reported until about 11:30 p.m., according to a sheriff’s office press release.
Houston police found DeJesus’ car in southwest Houston but the woman had not been located as of Tuesday evening, Baker said. Her information is entered into state and national databases as a missing and endangered person.
Authorities do not know whether DeJesus knows the man, Baker said.
“We don’t have any idea who he is at this time,” he said. “We don’t know if we’re dealing with a random abduction or somebody she knows. Right now, our main concern is to locate her and ascertain if she’s safe and sound.”
Anyone with information should call the Brazoria County Sheriff's Department at (281) 756-2392, or contact Investigator Wade Nichols at (281) 756-2220.

PEARLAND, Texas -- A woman abducted from an upscale Pearland shopping center Monday night is still missing, according to the Brazoria County Sheriff's Department.
The victim's co-worker told deputies they were leaving work at the "Catherine's Plus Sizes" store at 2754 Smith Ranch Road when it happened. A masked man with a gun approached the victim in the parking lot.
He said, "Get in the car, get in the car [expletive]," according to authorities.
He forced Susana De Jesus, 37, into her car and he drove away, according to the Brazoria County Sheriff's report.
The vehicle, a 2008 black Cadillac, was later recovered by the Houston Police Department in the 6000 block of West Airport. They're still checking the car for evidence but said there was no sign of blood.
There was no sign of De Jesus and she is believed to be in danger, according to the sheriff's department.
Detectives said the co-worker was so terrified she drove around for over an hour to make sure she wasn't being followed, then went home and called 911.
Sadly, the victim's husband was recently killed in a car accident, according to neighbors. They also say De Jesus is a devoted daughter who visits her mother regularly.
Detectives don't believe De Jesus knew her abductor.
Anyone with information about the kidnapping is urged to call the Brazoria County Sheriff's Department at 281-756-2392, or contact Investigator Wade Nichols at 281-756-2220.

This missing person's case happened not far from a home invasion earlier this week in Pearland. Police say someone broke into a home on Fallscreek Court and tied a woman up inside. She managed to escape and get help. The suspects are still on the run.
There was also a home invasion in Missouri City on Tuesday morning. Two gunmen stormed into a house, tied up the three family members and ransacked a home. The robbers took electronics, cash and the family's truck.
Investigators are not sure if any of these cases are related.

Woman Kidnapped At Gunpoint At Shopping Center
POSTED: Wednesday, February 4, 2009
UPDATED: 7:35 am CST February 4, 2009
PEARLAND, Texas -- A woman was kidnapped at gunpoint outside a shopping center near Pearland, KPRC Local 2 reported Wednesday.
Brazoria County sheriff's deputies said one of Susana De Jesus' co-workers told them she saw a man wearing a ski mask force De Jesus into her own car after she left Catherine's Plus Sizes clothing boutique on Smith Ranch Road near F.M. 518 at about 9:15 p.m. Monday.
De Jesus and the armed man drove off while a second man in another vehicle, possibly an accomplice, quickly followed them, deputies said.
De Jesus' car, a 2008 black Cadillac, was later found at an apartment complex in the 6000 block of Airport Boulevard in southwest Houston, investigators said.
Women who shop and work in the area said they are concerned about their safety.
"It's very unusual because we have felt safe for years out in Silverlake," shopper Carolyn Williams said. "All of a sudden, things are happening. Considering what's been going on lately, I'm a little bit worried about being by myself. I probably should take somebody with me shopping from now on."
Deputies said it is possible that De Jesus knew her attackers.
De Jesus is Hispanic, 5 feet 2 inches tall, 145-150 pounds with brown hair.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office at 281-331-9000.

A security camera on the ATM at a bank on Old Spanish Trail took this photo of a man who is believed to have abducted Susana De Jesus from a Pearland shopping center.
Brazoria County sheriff’s investigators today released a photograph of a man who is believed to have kidnapped a woman in Pearland at gunpoint Monday night.
The photograph, taken by a surveillance camera at a south Houston bank, shows the unidentified man in the driver’s seat of Susana De Jesus’ 2008 black Cadillac. De Jesus, 37, of southeast Harris County near Pearland, is still missing.
She and a co-worker were walking to their cars after they got off work at a strip shopping center at 2754 Smith Ranch Road, just east of Texas 288, when a gunman forced De Jesus into her car and drove away with her about 9:15 p.m.
Houston police later recovered the abandoned car.
The photo released today was captured by a security camera at a Washington Mutual Bank’s automated teller machine at 3636 Old Spanish Trail soon after the woman was abducted, said Brazoria County sheriff’s Capt. Chris Kincheloe.
It is unclear whether De Jesus was still in the car when the photo was taken. The man appears to have a mask over his face and is wearing a cap and a watch in the picture.
De Jesus' husband, Gregorio De Jesus, 38, died last year in a traffic accident in southeast Houston, according to records.
The accident occurred shortly before 3 a.m. on May 2 in the 13700 block of the Gulf Freeway's northbound service road, near the South Sam Houston Parkway.
Anyone who recognizes the person in the ATM photo, or who has information about the abduction, is asked to call the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office at 281-756-2392 or Investigator Wade Nichols at 281-756-2220.
Anonymous tips also can be given to Brazoria County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-460-2222. Callers do not have to give their names to be eligible for a reward.

Police are still searching for a woman allegedly abducted from a west Pearland shopping center at gunpoint.
The incident occurred Monday around 9:15 p.m. at 2754 Smith Ranch Road.
Brazoria County authorities determined there is probably more than one suspect involved.
Susana De Jesus, 37, a manager at a clothing boutique, is a widow with no children. The gunman who held her at gunpoint was wearing a mask and dark clothing.
The suspect reportedly forced De Jesus into her 2008 black Cadillac and drove away with her.
An ATM security camera apparently captured a shot of De Jesus’ vehicle later that evening. The video shot possibly shows a suspect inside the vehicle.
Houston Police later recovered the vehicle off West Airport.
Anyone with tips for the Sheriff’s Office should call 281-756-2392.

Brazoria County Sheriff's Office
Brazoria County authorities are looking for Susana De Jesus, who was abducted at gunpoint Monday night.
Relatives of Susana De Jesus returned to the site of her kidnapping today and passed out fliers with her photo, saying they have no idea why anyone would target her for abduction
“We don’t know who these people could be,” younger sister Guilly Puente said of the two men who drove away with De Jesus on Monday night after she was forced into her car at gunpoint while leaving work at a shopping center just outside of Pearland.
Puente and a friend distributed fliers of De Jesus at the shopping center. A spokeswoman for Texas EquuSearch said that, at the family’s request, the organization will begin searching on Thursday for De Jesus, who is known as “Susy.”
De Jesus, 37, was abducted about 9:15 p.m. Monday as she and a co-worker walked to their cars after leaving their jobs at Catherine’s Plus Sizes. The clothing store is in a shopping center at 2754 Smith Ranch Road, just east of Texas 288.
Brazoria County sheriff’s investigators today released a photograph of the masked man who is believed to have forced De Jesus into her black 2008 Cadillac at gunpoint. The photograph, taken by a surveillance camera at a south Houston bank, shows the unidentified man in the driver’s seat of the Cadillac with the door open.
Sheriff’s Capt. Chris Kincheloe said investigators are not sure whether the abduction has any connection with a series of home-invasion robberies that have taken place recently in Pearland and other communities in the area.
“Obviously, we had a crew move in here several months ago,” he said.
Investigator Jim Miller said three home invasions have been reported in the past three weeks in the Silver Lake subdivision, near the shopping center. He and Kincheloe added, however, that each case has been somewhat different, so police have not determined whether the same people were involved.
The photo released today was captured by a security camera at a Washington Mutual Bank’s automated teller machine at 3636 Old Spanish Trail soon after De Jesus was abducted, Kincheloe said.
It is unclear whether De Jesus was still in the car when the photo was taken. The man appears to have a mask over his face and is wearing a cap and a watch in the picture. Kincheloe said the man took pains to show as little of his face as possible.
Houston police later recovered the abandoned Cadillac. Kincheloe would not say whether investigators found significant evidence inside the car.
De Jesus’ co-worker told authorities that the gunman drove away in the black Cadillac while an accomplice drove a dark-colored van or sport-utility vehicle.
He acknowledged that the co-worker, whose name has not been disclosed, did not immediately call police after the abduction. But Kincheloe said the woman is not a suspect.
“Everybody reacts differently to these things,” Kincheloe said, adding that she was “very shocked and scared” after seeing De Jesus taken at gunpoint.
“She is cooperating with us fully,” Kincheloe said.
Puente said her sister, who lives in southeast Harris County between Houston and Pearland, does not have any children. Her husband, Gregorio De Jesus, 38, was killed on May 2 last year when his Corvette crashed into a concrete bridge support and burst into flames on the Gulf Freeway’s northbound access road at the South Sam Houston Parkway.
Puente added that her sister does not have a lot of money.
Anyone who recognizes the person in the picture or who has information about the incident is asked to call the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office at 281-756-2392 or Investigator Wade Nichols at 281-756-2220.
Anonymous tips also can be given to Brazoria County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-460-2222. Callers do not have to give their names to be eligible for a reward.

FBI, bloodhounds join search for kidnapped Pearland woman
05:11 PM CST on Wednesday, February 4, 2009
PEARLAND, Texas --The FBI has joined the search for a woman kidnapped late Monday from an upscale Pearland shopping center.
Susana de Jesus, 37, left her job as assistant manager at the "Catherine's Plus Sizes" store on Smith Ranch Road around 9:15 p.m. She was walking to her car when she was abducted at gunpoint, according to the Brazoria County Sheriff's Department.
A co-worker told deputies the gunman forced De Jesus into her black Cadillac and drove away.
Shortly after the kidnapping, the gunman drove the Cadillac to a Washington Mutual ATM on Old Spanish Trail in Southeast Houston. Security cameras were able to capture a grainy photo of the suspect at the wheel of De Jesus's vehicle.
"Knew exactly what he was doing," said Captain Chris Kincheloe with the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office. "He had on a watch cap and a mask. Even at that, he uses a door to conceal himself."
It is unclear whether De Jesus was still in the car when the photo was taken. The gunmen withdrew money from the victim's account.
The vehicle was later recovered by HPD officers in the 6000 block of West Airport.
A well-known Fort Bend County canine detective and his bloodhounds also joined the case Wednesday. The dogs with a proven track record of solving cases sniffed out the shopping center and other locations.
De Jesus's relatives were also at the shopping center Wednesday to distribute fliers with her photo on them. Her sister had a message for de Jesus.
"That I love her, that everybody wants her home," said Guilly Puente. "That's all that I want."
Family members say de Jesus's family was killed in a car wreck last year.
"Basically she would be at my house everyday," Puente said. "That's how close we were. I want that to happen again. I really want that to happen again."
Detectives don't believe De Jesus knew her abductor.
This has been the third attack by a masked gunman in Pearland in just the last week.
"It appears that we've had a crew coming into this area in the last month," said Kincheloe. "With that, you might assume it might be related."
Investigators also stress there are many differences in the cases.
Anyone with information about the kidnapping or any other crime is urged to call the Brazoria County Sheriff's Department at 281-756-2392 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-460-2222.

No leads in Pearland kidnapping

The Facts
Published February 5, 2009
PEARLAND — Brazoria County sheriff’s investigators are focused on finding a Houston woman abducted at gunpoint this week, and are urging people to be alert at the shopping centers lining FM 518 off Highway 288.
The abduction comes a week after two unsolved home invasions in the Pearland area where women were forced into closets by intruders.
In response to the crimes, police have stepped up patrols in the area, Brazoria County Sheriff’s Capt. Chris Kincheloe said.
“We have additional patrolmen up there, and we have additional undercover,” he said.
Pearland Police Detective Pam Anderson said there have not been any kidnappings or home invasions recently, though the department is considering overtime for patrol officers in the area.
Police released an ATM photo Wednesday of a man they believe is involved with the shopping center kidnapping of Susana DeJesus, 37. With the photo’s release, police said Wednesday there are no leads in her disappearance.
A man wearing a mask forced DeJesus into her black 2008 Cadillac as she and a female friend were leaving work at a boutique in the 2700 block of Smith Ranch Road about 9:15 p.m. Monday, police have said. The other woman was not injured and called police after the incident, Kincheloe said.
Investigators are working with the Houston and Pearland police departments, and Texas Equusearch, Sheriff Charles Wagner said.
“She’s still missing and that concerns us deeply.” Wagner said. “The longer she’s missing, the greater the fear that she may come to harm.”
Pearland Police are aiding the investigation working with the sheriff’s office and the FBI, but for now they have not been able to learn anything new, Anderson said.
“We’re assisting in every way we can,” she said.
The sheriff’s office is working to see if there is a connection between DeJesus and the man who forcibly took her Monday, Sheriff’s Capt. Chris Kincheloe said.
“I don’t think so,” Kincheloe said of a possible connection. “Right now we don’t have a link.”
Investigators believe DeJesus’ abduction could be related to two unsolved home invasions last week in the Pearland area, Kincheloe said.
“I can’t discount it,” he said. “It is an issue but we don’t have any information.”
A woman was tied up and forced into her bedroom closet in the 2900 block of Falls Creek Court at 3:45 p.m. Monday, She was not able to give a full description, but said it was a light-skinned black or Hispanic man wearing a mask and had a gun and a knife.
The morning of Jan. 26, a man forced a woman into the bedroom closet of her home in the 2600 block of Martinique Drive and took various items, including clothing.
Family members distributed fliers with DeJesus’ picture Wednesday in the Southeast Houston area she’s from, hoping to find out if someone had seen her, Kincheloe said.
Shoppers visiting the area of Highway 288 and FM 518 need to be alert when they get out of their vehicles and notify police of suspicious activity, Kincheloe said.
“If they see something that makes them uncomfortable,” they should call, he said.
Those with information about the kidnapping are urged to call the sheriff’s office at (281) 756-2216 or 2220.

Family Searches for Abducted Woman
Last Edited: Wednesday, 04 Feb 2009, 9:54 PM CST Created: Wednesday, 04 Feb 2009, 5:02 PM CST
HOUSTON -- Relatives and friends passed out pictures of Susana DeJesus at the Pearland shopping center where she was abducted Monday night.
"She would be at my house everyday, that's how close we are," said DeJesus' sister Guilly Puente. "I really want that to happen again."
After leaving a clothing store where she worked just after 9pm, police say the 37-year-old widow was forced into her own car at gunpoint by two masked men. She was with a co-worker who later called police. The gunman drove her Cadillac while the other man took off in a separate vehicle.
"Unfortunately, right now, we have no leads," said Captain Chris Kincheloe.
Brazoria County sheriff's officials do have surveillance photos from a South Houston bank where one of the suspects used Dejesus' ATM card for cash. The man appears to be wearing a cap and a mask, but you can't tell if Dejesus is still in the car.
"Someone is going to hear something, even if you think it's not important, we need a break in the case," said Kincheloe.
The abandoned Cadillac was later found by Houston police. Brazoria County Sheriff's don't know if the abduction is related to a recent string of home invasion robberies in the area.
"My focus right now is getting her back home," said Puente.
Texas Equusearch is expected to begin looking for DeJesus as early as Thursday.
The BCSO is working with multiple agencies including the FBI investigating the abduction.
Pearland police say they've increased patrols and visibility in the area of the kidnapping.
If you have any information you're urged to call police or Brazoria County Crimestoppers at 1-800-460-2222.

Detectives unsure whether kidnapping is linked to recent crimes
Feb. 5, 2009, 9:19AM
Members of Texas EquuSearch were studying two locations on Houston's south side early today and one site near Pearland as they tried to decide where to focus their search for a woman who was kidnapped at gunpoint this week.
"We have one fairly small girl and really and truly, a big area," said Tim Miller, director of the internationally known organization. "Where do you start with something like that?"
Based on phone calls he has received, Miller said he expects a huge turnout of volunteers today as a widespread search for Susana De Jesus begins.
De Jesus, 37, was forced into her car Monday night as she left her job at a clothing store in a shopping center on Smith Ranch Road, just east of Texas 288 near Pearland.
A security camera snapped a photo later that night of a masked man in the driver's seat of her black 2008 Cadillac at an automated teller machine outside a bank at 3636 Old Spanish Trail in Houston. He used De Jesus' card to withdraw cash.
It was not clear whether De Jesus was still in the car when the photo was taken.
Houston police found the Cadillac early Tuesday at an apartment complex in the 6000 block of West Airport.
Miller, who founded Texas EquuSearch after the 1984 abduction and murder of his daughter, Laura, said he and others in the group were trying to decide which of those three locations should be the focus of today's search.
He acknowledged that the prospects for finding De Jesus alive are not encouraging.
"It's pretty hard to think like these people think," he said, referring to the gunman who abducted De Jesus and the accomplice who was in another vehicle.
An expanded search is set to begin this afternoon. As police on Wednesday released the ATM photo, they said they don’t know why De Jesus was targeted.
The 37-year-old southeast Houston resident was walking with a co-worker when she was abducted about 9:15 p.m. Monday. The two were leaving their jobs at Catherines Plus Sizes.
The co-worker, whose name has not been disclosed, told investigators the abductor drove the Cadillac out of the shopping center parking lot with another vehicle following.
The ATM where the man was photographed is about 11 miles from the store and another 11 miles from where the car was found.
Brazoria County sheriff’s Capt. Chris Kincheloe said investigators are not sure whether the abduction has any connection to a recent series of home-invasion robberies in Pearland and other communities in the area. Each of the crimes has been different, he said.
The victim’s younger sister, Guilly Puente, said De Jesus never expressed any fear of leaving the shop after closing it and didn’t seem to have any enemies. “We don’t know who these people could be,” she said.
“Our mother isn’t taking this very well,” Puente said.
Puente and a friend distributed fliers at the shopping center Wednesday afternoon. She described her older sister as a kind, friendly person who is devoted to her two Chihuahuas and loves to cook for her family.
De Jesus’ 38-year-old husband, Gregorio, was killed on May 2 when his Corvette crashed into a concrete bridge support and burst into flames on the Gulf Freeway.
Kincheloe said De Jesus' co-worker waited about two hours after the abduction before calling police.
“Each person reacts differently to these things,” Kincheloe said, adding that the co-worker was “very shocked and scared” by the incident.
“She is cooperating with us fully” and is not a suspect, he said.
Store spokeswoman Gyle Coolick said De Jesus had been assistant manager since November 2007. “We are agonizing for her safe return,” Coolick said.
Miller said single women driving impressive new cars — such as De Jesus’ Cadillac — sometimes become targets.
“I don’t believe this was just random,” he said of the kidnapping. “I would anticipate he’d seen her over a few days or few weeks.”
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office at 281-756-2392, or investigator Wade Nichols at 281-756-2220.
Brazoria County Crime Stoppers also is taking anonymous tips at 800-460-2222.

I am so worried about this lady. Why did he have to take her?? He could have grabbed her purse, he could have taken her car. He left one witness behind so why didn't he leave her behind too?? :000a1:

Pearland is becoming a scary place
This entry comes to you after a recent abduction by gunpoint and a series of home invasions, which target women whom are alone.
First of all, we need to address the abduction of Susana De Jesus, 37, from a Pearland shopping strip at 2754 Smith Ranch Road. She was ordered into her vehicle by a man holding a gun and he drove away as her co-worker watched in horror. Anyone with information about the incident should call the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office at 281-756-2392 or Investigator Wade Nichols at 281-756-2220.
Police have recovered the vehicle, but there's no sign of De Jesus.
Women continue to be targets in Pearland. A number of women have been approached just outside or inside their homes and robbed. Here's a story of a woman who was bound and gagged and locked in a closet while two men ransacked her home. She escaped out of a closet window, but the criminals have not been caught.
A similar incident occurred in SilverLake just last week or so.
I've written before about my experience of having a gun pointed at me. I was lucky, though. The bad guys wanted me to remain in my car so they could rob a neighbor's apartment without distraction. It didn't stop me from using my cell phone to contact authorities. I escaped unharmed, but the fear of a similar incident happening again was enough for me to move from that area. Now, I'm here in Pearland, and it seems to be worse.
Many commentors have made key points about the story of the break-in. Here's the best comment:

Okay, seriously, people. Considering the amount of crime in this country, let alone in the greater Houston area, anything suspicious should be enough of an alarm to contact police.
Let this be a lesson for us. Get to know your neighbors. Exchange numbers. Save emergency numbers in your cell phones and on your speed dial. Report anything suspicious. That means strange men jumping fences, unfamiliar vehicles, and anything that doesn't seem normal.
I bet I will have nothing in common with nine out of every 10 people on my street, but our connection will be the need to be safe in our community. It's time we look out for each other. Please, be safe, and watch out for anything suspicious.
So, if you haven't already, go meet your neighbors today. Let me know how it goes. Meanwhile, please keep De Jesus and her family in your prayers.

Prayer vigil to be held for kidnapped Pearland woman
12:31 PM CST on Thursday, February 5, 2009
By Shern-Min Chow and Allison Triarsi / 11 News
PEARLAND, Texas -- A prayer vigil will be held for Susana de Jesus who has was kidnapped late Monday from an upscale Pearland shopping center. The event will be held Thursday night at the Shadow Creek Community Church. For the next seven days, church officials say that they are encouraging members and community neighbors to pray a consistent prayer for de Jesus, 37, and their community safety as a whole.
“The Bible tells us that if we, as believers, agree on earth about anything and ask God for it, it shall be done for them by Our Father. So often, Christians are in disagreement about what we want, but I think it is clear here that we all want our neighborhoods to be safe. We desire for Susana to be returned immediately and without harm,” said Interim Pastor Donn Schafer.
News of the vigil comes as reports surface that Equusearch crews found fresh tire tracks in southwest Houston where de Jesus’ abandoned car was found. There are reportedly piles of trash in the area that crews want to investigate.
Meanwhile, the FBI has joined the search for the missing woman.
The search began after de Jesus left her job as assistant manager at the Catherine's Plus Sizes store on Smith Ranch Road at around 9:15 p.m on Monday. De Jesus was walking to her car when she was abducted at gunpoint, according to the Brazoria County Sheriff's Department.
A co-worker told deputies the gunman forced de Jesus into her black Cadillac and drove away.
Shortly after the kidnapping, the gunman drove the Cadillac to a Washington Mutual ATM on Old Spanish Trail in southeast Houston. Security cameras were able to capture a grainy photo of the suspect at the wheel of de Jesus' vehicle.
The dogs, which have a proven track record of solving cases, sniffed out the shopping center and other locations.
De Jesus' relatives were also at the shopping center Wednesday to distribute fliers with her photo on them. Her sister had a message for de Jesus.
"That I love her, that everybody wants her home," said Guilly Puente. "That's all that I want."
Family members say De Jesus' husband was killed in a car wreck last year.
If you want to help with the search or provide water and other essentials, please call Texas Equusearch at 281-309-9500.

Search delayed for woman abducted in Pearland
Detectives unsure whether kidnapping is linked to recent crimes
Feb. 5, 2009, 3:49PM
Texas EquuSearch officials backed off a plan of mounting a massive search Thursday for a woman abducted at gunpoint in a Pearland shopping center parking lot Monday.
"There are literally thousands of different areas where we could search," said Tim Miller, founder of the search agency.
He and others surveyed the areas between where Susana De Jesus was kidnapped to an automated teller machine in south Houston where her card was used to withdraw cash about an hour later and to another parking lot where her car was found early Tuesday. The distance between each point is roughly 11 miles.
"There are lots of places with fresh tire tracks and places of concealment and we just can't cover that big of an area," Miller said this afternoon.
When they get an indication of a smaller area, he said, then the search will begin.
De Jesus, 37, was forced into her car Monday night as she left her job at a clothing store in a shopping center on Smith Ranch Road, just east of Texas 288 near Pearland.

Equusearch: Bottom line halts search for
Pearland woman
05:35 PM CST on Thursday, February 5, 2009
Despite a family’s plea, the Texas Equusearch team made the tough decision Thursday to pull out, for now, from searching for Susana de Jesus. She was kidnapped late Monday from an upscale Pearland shopping center.
De Jesus was walking to her car when she was abducted at gunpoint, according to the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Department. A co-worker told deputies the gunman forced de Jesus into her black Cadillac and drove away.
Tim Miller, who is with Texas Equusearch, spent much of Thursday retracing de Jesus’ known whereabouts. He went to empty fields near the location where de Jesus’ abandoned car was found. He said the problem is that there’s too much land to search and no leads to narrow the task.
“I called Lt. Baker and said, ‘Lieutenant, I hate to say it, but we just don’t have a spot right now,’ and he said, ‘I understand,’” said Miller.
It was not the news de Jesus’ family wanted to hear.
Guilly Puente spent hours passing out fliers showing her missing sister.
Miller had to console her about Thursday’s decision. He said the decision was based partly on the bottom line.
“Right now our economy is in big trouble and we certainly got to do this as economically as possible,” said Miller.
The FBI is not giving up. They are continuing the search for the missing woman.
Meanwhile, for the next seven days, officials at the Shadow Creek Community Church say that they are encouraging members and community neighbors to pray a consistent prayer for de Jesus, 37, and their community safety as a whole.

Volunteers Suspend
Search for Woman

HOUSTON - Texas Equusearch called off its volunteer team in the case of a missing Pearland woman.
The organization top guy, Tim Miller, says there aren't enough leads and there's too much land to cover in the search for 37-year-old Susana DeJesus.
DeJesus was abducted at gunpoint from a Pearland shopping center parking lot Monday night. She had just finished a work shift at one of the center's clothing stores.
Investigators say they have been able to able to track down her missing 2008 Cadillac, and they've also recovered a picture of the kidnapping suspect from a surveillance camera at an ATM. That picture shows a disguised man using the DeJesus' debit card.
Investigators say they can't determine what the man looks like because the picture could not provide a clear image of the suspect, who appeared to be wearing a cap and mask.
Miller says Texas Equusearch will launch a search if investigators get any solid leads.

Detectives: Woman Likely Targeted
Last Edited: Friday, 06 Feb 2009, 8:28 PM CST
Created On: Friday, 06 Feb 2009, 2:38 PM CST
HOUSTON - Brazoria County investigators now believe the abduction of a 37-year-old woman from the Pearland shopping center where she worked may not have been random.
"I'm here to calm fears that this instance may have been other than random," said Captain Chris Kincheloe.
DeJesus was leaving a clothing store where she worked just after 9 p.m. Monday when she was forced into her own car at gunpoint by two masked men. The gunman drove her Cadillac while the other man took off in a separate vehicle. Sheriff's detectives do believe the Susana DeJesus was taken against her will but said she had some recent "issues and concerns" in her life.
"She may have known or was aware what was happening at the time she was taken," said Kincheloe.
Police also believe DeJesus is still alive. Her sister begged the kidnapper to let her go.
"If my sister is listening and I know she is, I love you, I miss you, I need you to come back home," said Guilly Puente.
Brazoria County sheriff's officials have surveillance photos from a South Houston bank where one of the suspects used Dejesus' ATM card for cash. The man appears to be wearing a cap and a mask.
The abandoned Cadillac was later found by Houston police. Brazoria County Sheriff's don't know if the abduction is related to a recent string of home invasion robberies in the area.
If you have any information you're urged to call police or Brazoria County Crimestoppers at 800-460-2222.

Sister pleads for return of kidnapped woman
Published February 7, 2009
PEARLAND — Guilly Puente’s voice shook with emotion as she pleaded with Susana DeJesus’ kidnapper to let her go so the two sisters could talk, hug and watch television together again.
“Whoever has her, I’m asking that person … return her. Let her come home to me. That’s the only thing I want,” Puente said in the large parking lot at Highway 288 and FM 518, the place where police said DeJesus was abducted by a masked gunman Monday night.
“This is my soul. This is my blood. This is my sister,” Puente said.
Holding a stack of “missing person” fliers and wearing dark glasses, black pants and a white T-shirt on which DeJesus’ picture was printed, the 34-year-old Puente asked the kidnapper to think of his own sister, mother or cousin and have compassion.
“She’s my sister. My only sister,” Puente said. “This is a human being. A person. This is a wonderful person. Please do not harm her. I want to hug her. I need to talk to her. I miss those daily calls. All I want is my sister home sitting next to me, watching TV.”
About a dozen reporters attended a windy press conference in front of the women’s plus-sized clothing store at which DeJesus, 37, of Houston has been assistant manager about three months.
DeJesus was forced into her 2008 Cadillac while leaving work in the large shopping center about 9:15 p.m. Monday, Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Russ Baker has said. The center is in the middle of a busy shopping area surrounded by crowded city streets and many overhead lights.
A co-worker who walked out of the store with DeJesus didn’t immediately call police, but called her son in Canada, who contacted authorities about 11:30 p.m. Monday, Baker said.
In a 911 call, the son told a Brazoria County sheriff’s dispatcher a man wearing a black mask and gloves and carrying a silver gun forced DeJesus into her car and got into the back seat.
DeJesus’ parting words to the co-worker were to ask if she had a cell phone, the man said on the 911 recording.
The co-worker drove from the parking lot, where DeJesus and the man remained inside the Cadillac. The car was found abandoned in southwest Houston on Tuesday. Police do not suspect the co-worker of any involvement in the abduction, sheriff’s investigator Wade Nichols said.
At a press conference Friday morning, sheriff’s Capt. Chris Kincheloe said police do not know if DeJesus knew her kidnapper.
In the 911 call, the co-worker’s son said DeJesus was “very, very nervous” the day she was kidnapped and talked to the co-worker about the death of her husband, Gregorio DeJesus.
He was killed in May when the Corvette he was driving hit a concrete pillar and burst into flames on the Gulf Freeway in Houston, according to published reports. Kincheloe said there does not appear to be a correlation between the crash and Monday’s abduction, but investigators were leaving no stone unturned.
On Friday afternoon, Bob Walcutt, with the Laura Recovery Center in Friendswood, brought fliers his group printed with photos and information about DeJesus. The group helps locate missing people.
“We just want to help as much as we can,” Walcutt said. “Hopefully she’ll be found alive and well. The person who took her has an option. If he has dropped her off somewhere, let somebody know so they can find her.”
Puente is considering only one option.
“I have all the faith in God that she’s going to come home to us,” Puente said, her voice shaking with emotion. “I miss her. My sister is a fabulous person. I know that God is going to bring her home.”
Anyone with information should call the Brazoria County Sheriff's Department at (281) 756-2392, or investigator Wade Nichols at (281) 756-2220.

Abduction unprecedented in Brazoria County, possibly not random
http://images.townnews.com/hcnonline.com/content/articles/2009/02/08/pearland_journal/news/2-12_abduction.jpg
This ATm security camera photo shows what appears to be Susana De Jesus’ 2008 black Cadillac pulled up to the cash machine at 3636 Old Spanish Trail in Houston. The vehicle was later found abandoned off West Airport.
Updated: 02.06.09
As the search continues for a woman abducted from a west Pearland shopping center, questions are popping up about the randomness of the act.
"The motive of the suspect who did this may cause this incident to be other than random," Brazoria County Sheriff Department Capt. Chris Kincheloe said. "Does that mean she's an active participant? No, I believe she was taken against her will."
"There may have been issues in her life that caused concern. She may have been aware of what was happening."
In his 21 years working in Brazoria County, Kincheloe said he cannot recall any other abduction cases as dramatic as this one. The Pearland Police Department is working closely with the Brazoria County Sheriff Office, Houston Police Department and the FBI in the ongoing investigations for the abduction and home invasions located near the city.
Pearland Police has increased its patrol efforts to provide a heigtened visibility to deter future incidents.
Susana De Jesus was allegedly abducted at gunpoint outside of Catherine's Plus Sizes, 2754 Smith Ranch Road, Monday around 9:15 p.m.
Brazoria County authorities determined there is probably more than one suspect involved but have no leads at the moment. The only profile Kincheloe could give of the suspect was, "He's as mean as hell. He's brazen in his conduct and streetwise. He knew exactly what he was doing."
Investigative staff is conducting background checks on everyone involved, he said.
De Jesus, 37, a manager at Catherine's Plus Sizes, is a widow with no children. Her husband died in a car accident last May.
The suspect reportedly forced De Jesus into her 2008 black Cadillac and drove away with her. A co-worker who saw the kidnapping was so upset she waited several hours before calling police, according to Kincheloe.
"It shook her really bad. Could we have gotten there quicker? I don't know," Kincheloe said. "I don't think it would have made a difference. She has cooperated fully."
Investigators released the co-worker's 911 call on Thursday -- the call featured her son, who did most of the talking and resides out of state. The son described the suspect as wearing a mask, gloves and carrying a gun, and said the suspect told De Jesus to get in the car.
An ATM security camera at 3636 Old Spanish Trail apparently captured a shot of De Jesus’ vehicle later that evening as a suspect was using her ATM card. The video shot possibly shows a suspect inside the vehicle.
Houston Police recovered the vehicle off West Airport several hours later at an apartment complex, but will not release information as to what was found inside.
Two days after the abduction, De Jesus's sister, Guilly Puente, said a search party was being coordinated through Texas EquuSearch. It was later reported that Equusearch delayed the operation because the search area was too large.
"We just want her home safe," Puente said Wednesday. "That's all I want, for her to be safe. I don't care what it takes."
Anyone with tips for the Sheriff’s Office should call 281-756-2392.

The search for missing Pearland woman
Sunday, February 08, 2009 | 6:37
A woman from Pearland who was kidnapped outside her job is still missing after six days. Friends and family are hoping to find her soon.
Susana DeJesus was last seen Monday night when she was forced into her car at gunpoint. Investigators don't believe the act was random.
Now there is a big push this weekend to get her back home. Family and friends of DeJesus were at parking lots around Reliant Stadium passing out missing person flyers Sunday afternoon. They also visited a shopping center near Meyerland. They hope their efforts convince anyone with information to help the police locate DeJesus.
"Just if they hear anything, if they have any information, to keep a lookout," said friend Cindy Cavazos. "Call the police, call Equusearch, call Crime Stoppers, call someone just to let somebody know. We're trying to get the word out so if someone has her, they let her go and bring her home."
DeJesus was taken at gunpoint Monday night from outside the Pearland store where she worked. The most solid piece of evidence investigators have is an ATM surveillance photo of the masked gunman in DeJesus' vehicle.
Crime Stoppers has announced it is offering a $15,000 reward for information that helps lead to an arrest and conviction in this case.
If you have any information that can help in this case, call Brazoria County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-460-2222.

Crime Stoppers increases reward to $15,000 in Pearland kidnap case
Feb. 9, 2009, 11:51AM
The sister of a woman kidnapped at gunpoint a week ago from a Pearland-area parking lot said today she still believes her sister is alive.
“I know she’s alive,” said a tearful Guilly Puente, 34 . “I feel in my heart that she’s alive.”
Puente pleaded with anybody who might have any information on the Feb. 2 kidnapping of Susana De Jesus, 37, to call the Brazoria County sheriff’s department or Houston Crime Stoppers.
Family friend Patricia Zepeda, standing by Puente, noted that the Crime Stopper reward for information leading to the arrest of the kidnapper has been increased to $15,000.
“Somebody must have seen something,” Zepeda said. The parking lot De Jesus was kidnapped from is right across a street from a Wal-Mart that is open 24 hours a day, Zepeda noted. “There are people out there all hours of day and night.”
A co-worker at Catherines Plus Sizes, where De Jesus was the assistant manager, told investigators she saw a man order her into her 2008 black Cadillac about 9:15 p.m. An hour later a masked man was captured on a surveillance camera leaning out of the car to make a withdrawal from a Washington Mutual ATM machine on Old Spanish Trail in Houston. The car was found the next morning in the 6000 block of West Airport.
Federal Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Shuana Dunlap said her agency added $10,000 to the usual $5,000 reward in order to get more information about the case.
Brazoria County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Chris Kincheloe said investigators from several different agencies are tracking down every tip they can get. He said he’s confident that somebody knows or saw something that can lead to break in the case.
“I have nothing that indicates that we can’t find her today and get her back to her family,” he said.
Kincheloe said earlier that investigators think the kidnapping might not have been random.
He said today he based that on information that “when she was abducted she didn’t panic.”
Kincheloe wouldn’t give any details, but said investigators are searching to see if there was anything in De Jesus’s life that would lead her to expect to be abducted.
Puente, looking noticeably more wan and distressed than she did last week, said of her sister. “She’s awesome. She’s a good person, an honest person.”
Kincheloe said that although records indicated the co-worker didn’t report the abduction until two hours after it happened, “the important thing is that she called us and reported it.” Kicheloe said the woman, who is not a suspect, “was scared to death.”
Anyone with information of the case can call 713-222-TIPS. All calls are anonymous.

Kidnap reward up to $15,000
Published February 10, 2009
PEARLAND — The FBI tacked $10,000 onto a reward offered for information related to the kidnapping of a Houston woman from a Pearland shopping center.
The total reward offered now from Crime Stoppers is $15,000.
The man who pulled a gun on Susana DeJesus, 37, and forced her into her 2008 Cadillac on Feb. 2 did it in a very public area and there has to be someone who saw what happened, Houston FBI agents said.
“We know there are individuals out there who have information about this case,” said Shauna Dunlap, an FBI special agent in Houston.
As family members continue to distribute fliers in shopping centers throughout the Southeast Houston area and in Pearland, phones are ringing with tips — but none have led to a break in the case, officials said.
The increased reward hopefully will encourage witnesses to come forward and help solve this woman’s disappearance, Dunlap said.
“We thought it might be helpful for the case,” FBI agent Patricia Villafranca said.
Brazoria County Sheriff’s Investigator Capt. Chris Kincheloe said detectives still are hoping to find DeJesus alive.
“I’m looking for a living, breathing person,” Kincheloe said.
The FBI is assisting the case by processing any items with potential forensic value, Kincheloe said.
“It will expedite things,” he said.
DeJesus and a co-worker left the store in the 2700 block of Smith Ranch Road about 9:15 p.m. Feb. 2 when a masked man approached and forced DeJesus into her car, police have said.
A three-way phone call was made to 911 by the co-worker’s son in Canada about two hours after the abduction. The son told police DeJesus appeared nervous before she walked into the parking lot that night.
A security photo from an ATM off Old Spanish Trail in Houston showed a masked man inside DeJesus’ car, and police found DeJesus’ Cadillac abandoned in Southwest Houston the day after her kidnapping.
Police originally believed the kidnapping was random, but they now are exploring the possibility it wasn’t — though Kincheloe said he couldn’t speak further about that.
Dunlap also said she could not elaborate about the investigation’s direction.
“We are not ruling anything out at this point,” Dunlap said. “There’s a woman’s life at stake.”
Anyone with information should call the sheriff's office at (281) 756-2392; investigator Wade Nichols at (281) 756-2220; or Crime Stoppers at (800) 460-2222.

OnStar technology helps police in Pearland kidnapping case
01:34 AM CST on Tuesday, February 10, 2009
by Shern-Min Chow / 11 News PEARLAND -- Houston police investigators say that technology onboard the victim's car has given them their first big break in the Pearland kidnapping case (http://www.khou.com/topstories/stories/khou090209_tnt_de-jesus.354ed4d7.html).
A week ago Susana de Jesus and a co-worker were leaving an upscale shopping center in Pearland, when she was forced into her own vehicle by a masked man with a gun.
Police say de Jesus drove a 2008 Cadillac that was equipped with an OnStar unit. It was that unit that helped them locate the car.
Nationwide OnStar helps recover close to 800 stolen vehicles a month. There is also a panic button, and in newer models, there is a feature that remotely slows the car down to less than 10 miles an hour.
“She could have slowed the vehicle down. Then they would have known where she was and got to her,” said Kirk Dennis of Strickland Chevrolet.
But with a gun pointed at her, it appears de Jesus was unable to hit the panic button.
But OnStar did locate the Cadillac on West Airport. The car was processed by the Houston Police Department and the FBI is expediting the lab work.
“There will be forensic analysis conducted at our lab at FBI Quantico,” said Shauna Dunlap of the FBI.
In a press conference on Monday, de Jesus’s sister appealed directly to the kidnappers.
“They need to touch their heart and touch their soul because they have not only hurt my family, but the whole community,” said Guilly Puente, victim’s sister.
The family has not given up their hopes of finding de Jesus alive. They have been actively trying to find her ever since they learned of her disappearance.

The suspect can be seen at the wheel of the victim's cadillac, but his face is partially covered with a mask.
Meantime, investigators continue to ask people to look closely at an ATM security photo of the suspected kidnapper, and starting on Tuesday, the Laura Recovery Center will begin looking for her.
Authorities say they are also taking a closer look at de Jesus's personal life.
“She didn't panic. It's almost as if she understood what was happening,” said Captain Chris Kincheloe of the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office.
There is a $15,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in this case. If you have any information please call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-tips.
If you want to assist in the search, the number is 281-482-5723.

I'm sure that if this happened the way it's reported that the co-worker was scared. But, waiting 2 hours to report a kidnapping? That's just unbelievable to me. The photo was taken 11 miles from the kidnapping site. If the other woman had called LE immediately, chances are they could have spotted the car. This pegs out my hinky meter. JMO
I pray that Suzy is found safe.

Oh I completely agree. And then she goes home after driving around for two hours and calls her son in Canada and he calls 911. He does most of the talking in the 3-way call with 911. And why did they leave her unharmed?

PEARLAND, Texas - More than 70 volunteers turn out this morning to help find a Pearland woman who was reportedly threatened with a gun and kidnapped on Feb. 2.
The Laura Recovery Center organized the group into seven search teams to scour remote grasslands or wooded areas in Pearland and southeast Harris County. The volunteers are looking for 37-year-old Susana DeJesus or evidence that may be connected to her disappearance.
A co-worker of the missing woman told investigators that she saw DeJesus forced into a car by a masked man armed with a gun. Brazoria County Sheriff's investigators say DeJesus' bank card was used to withdraw money and her car was found abandoned in Houston, but there has been no sign of her.
Volunteers gathered at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of the Bass Pro Shop in Pearland. The group included 7 members of the Clute Police Department who are helping the effort on their own time. Two separate search dog teams are volunteering as well.
"The volunteers that come out are the lifeblood of the search," says Bob Walcutt, the Executive Director of the Laura Recovery Center. "They're the people that really do the hard work. They get out and cover the ground."
Investigators are still hoping for help from the public to locate DeJesus. The reward for information on the case is $15,000.

Grim search yields no sign of abducted woman
Feb. 11--PEARLAND -- More than 100 volunteers combed the brush and tall grass in a wide area around a Pearland-area shopping center Wednesday for any signs of Susana De Jesus, who was kidnapped on the night of Feb. 2 as she left work at a women's clothing store.
Most were on foot, a few on all-terrain vehicles and one helicopter patrolled without finding any sign of the woman.
"In a way that's a good thing," said Dawn Davis, senior case manager for the Laura Recovery Center, which is coordinating the search. "We really didn't want to find human remains. We want to find her alive."
Bob Walcott, director of the center, instructed volunteers to look for any signs of the gray pantsuit that De Jesus was wearing when a masked man brandishing a pistol forced her into her Cadillac. She had just left Catherines Plus Sizes, where she was an assistant manager.
Walcott noted that De Jesus, 37, could have been taken almost anywhere in the Houston area, "but we are starting around here because this is where she was taken."
An hour after she was abducted, a security camera at a Washington Mutual ATM on Old Spanish Trail in south Houston photographed a masked man leaning from the woman's car and using her card to withdraw cash. The grainy photo does not show whether De Jesus was still in the car.
The black 2008 Cadillac was found the next morning in the 6000 block of West Airport. It had been driven at least 25 miles from the abduction site to where it was found.
Last week another volunteer search organization, Texas Equusearch, called off plans for a similar mass search because the possible places where De Jesus could have been taken covers so much territory.
The missing woman's sister, Guilly Puente, helped sign up volunteers, hand out safety vests and direct them to search teams.
"We just want to do whatever we can do," she said.
Puente said De Jesus' two Chihuahua dogs have refused to eat since she disappeared.
"I have the same voice as her and, when they hear me, they run up to me and then are disappointed when I'm not her," she said.

Search Enters Day 3 For Abducted Woman
POSTED: Thursday, February 12, 2009
HOUSTON -- For a third day in a row, dozens of volunteers searched for any signs of a woman who was abducted outside her workplace more than a week ago, KPRC Local 2 reported Thursday.
About 40 to 50 searchers with the Laura Recovery Center showed up to look for Susana De Jesus, 37.
She was abducted on Feb. 2 while getting into her own car after she left her job at Catherine's Plus Sizes clothing boutique on Smith Ranch Road near F.M. 518 at about 9:15 p.m.
One group of volunteers found a bag of animal bones and a bag of clothes in south Houston.
The clothes were the same color that De Jesus wore when she was last seen.
A detective checked it out and determined the clothes were not related to the case.
Searchers said they really hope they find something in the woods or in the fields. But on the other hand, they're afraid of what they could find.
"You just don't know. Your heart starts beating fast and you just, you don't know, might not be related or anything. So, you, hope and pray it's not -- that she's alive somewhere. But, you just start thinking about something else and keep on going," said Joe Munoz, a relative of De Jesus.
Many of the volunteers have never met De Jesus.
"The fact that she had been missing for so long -- I think her car was recovered right around this area and just from that area and you know, you see people on the news distraught and you want to help, you know. I wanted to come out and do that," said Blythe Hensler, a volunteer.
Organizers said they will be searching every day until at least Saturday and more volunteers are needed.
Searchers will gather at the Bass Pro Shop at Beltway 8 and Highway 288 at 9 a.m. For more information, call 281-482-5723.

Kidnapper might not have acted by himself
By John Lowman (http://thefacts.com/contact.lasso?ewcd=c9174fb7fc97a867c99cd3231d1f985 dc1fb156640913ff194756ad7a6117f2b)
The Facts
Published February 13, 2009
PEARLAND — The man who kidnapped the assistant manager of a Pearland women’s clothing store might not have acted alone, police said, but they have yet to identify any suspects.
“We believe he may have had a co-actor,” Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Chris Kincheloe said.
The man who police said forced Susana DeJesus, 37, of Houston at gunpoint into her 2008 Cadillac 11 days ago might have arrived at the shopping center at Highway 288 and FM 518 “in a large, dark truck or SUV,” Kincheloe said.
“He left with the woman and it left the area,” Kincheloe said. “But we do not know who that man or woman is.”
DeJesus and a co-worker were leaving the store about 9:15 p.m. Feb. 2 when the masked-and-gloved man approached with a silver handgun, demanding DeJesus get in her car. The co-worker didn’t immediately call police, but called her son in Canada, who contacted authorities about two hours after the abduction, sheriff’s Lt. Russ Baker has said.
The co-worker is not a suspect, Baker has said. Police still are investigating the incident as a missing person and not a recovery, Kincheloe said.
“We’re still looking for a living, breathing person,” he said. “Our goal is to return this woman safely to her family.”
Harris County Crime Stoppers, the FBI and Brazoria County Crime Stoppers are offering a combined $17,500 award for information leading to the arrest of a suspect in the case.
“We’re hoping that money will turn up a new piece of information,” Kincheloe said. “We’re exploring all leads and continue to complete background information on people of interest. We’re still trying to figure out what happened and why it happened.”
In a 911 call, the co-worker’s son told a Brazoria County sheriff’s dispatcher DeJesus’ parting words to the co-worker were to ask if she had a cell phone. The co-worker drove from the parking lot where DeJesus and the man remained inside the Cadillac. The car was found abandoned in southwest Houston on Feb. 3.
“We don’t have a specific target,” Kincheloe said. “Right now, anyone associated with her is a lead we’re going to check out. It’s quite possible that the incident is other than random. That doesn’t mean it’s not random.”
DeJesus’ sister, Guilly Puente, last Friday used area media to plead with the kidnapper not to harm DeJesus. The Friendswood-based search group Laura Recovery Center last week pledged to help find the missing woman.
Police have contacted Brazoria County District Attorney Jeri Yenne’s office to keep her apprised on developments, but there is not an arrest pending, Kincheloe said.
“We continue to gather information,” he said. “We have investigators in the field right now following up on all leads.”
Anyone with information should call the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Department at (281) 756-2392, or Crime Stoppers at (800) 460-2222.

Day 4 Yields No Clues Of Missing Woman
HOUSTON - Hundreds of volunteers have scoured search areas in hopes of finding clues to the wherabouts of a woman abducted outside her workplace more than a week ago. After four days of searching, Susan De Jesus remained missing, KPRC Local 2 reported Friday.
De Jesus, 37, was abducted on Feb. 2 while getting into her own car after she left her job at Catherine's Plus Sizes clothing boutique on Smith Ranch Road near F.M. 518 at about 9:15 p.m.
Being a search volunteer is not easy work. They kept going through rain, overgrown fields and wet grass.
They all have their reasons.
"Because if it was my daughter, I would want people to come out and help her," volunteer Ginny Douglas said.
Douglas and her daughter joined the search party. It was the first time they had volunteered for something like that.
"I guess I just think about how that family must be feeling not knowing where their daughter or sister are -- where she is," she said.
Searchers with the Laura Recovery Center spent Friday covering an apartment complex in southwest Houston with pictures of De Jesus. It was where her car was found shortly after her abduction.
Brazoria County sheriff's investigators said they are still hard at work searching for two suspects -- a man photographed by an ATM camera using De Jesus' bank card and a second person who may have dropped off the kidnapper near De Jesus' store.
Searchers are helping spread the word about the crime.
"Yes, I did hear about the lady that was missing. I saw it on the news. But I wasn't aware that her car was abandoned somewhere in this area," said Centresia Powell, who lives near the apartments.
Organizers said they will be searching until at least Saturday and more volunteers are needed.
Searchers will gather at the Bass Pro Shop at Beltway 8 and Highway 288 at 9 a.m. For more information, call 281-482-5723.

HOUSTON - Two weeks after a woman was abducted outside her workplace, volunteers gathered once again to search for clues, KPRC Local 2 reported Monday.
Teams of volunteers from the Laura Recovery Center (http://www.lrcf.net/) searched fields from Angleton to Pearland in hopes of uncovering clues as to Susana De Jesus' whereabouts.
De Jesus, 37, was abducted on Feb. 2 while getting into her own car after she left her job at Catherine's Plus Sizes clothing boutique on Smith Ranch Road near F.M. 518 at about 9:15 p.m.
Her family remains hopeful that De Jesus will return.
"It's been really tough, but the only thing that I think we hold on to is the hope. I really feel that she is alive. I really do. And I want her back," said Guilly Puente, the victim's sister.
A prayer vigil is planned in honor of De Jesus. It will take place Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Catholic Charismatic Center on Cullen Boulevard at Interstate 45.
Brazoria County sheriff's investigators said they are still hard at work searching for two suspects -- a man photographed by an ATM camera using De Jesus' bank card and a second person who may have dropped off the kidnapper near De Jesus' store.

KHOU.com Staff Report
HOUSTON – Friends, family and volunteers in Pearland are still searching for Susana De Jesus, who was kidnapped two weeks ago.
The Laura Recovery Center set up a command post for the search effort off Highway 288 and the Beltway, where volunteers gathered Monday.
A prayer vigil for de Jesus was scheduled for Tuesday night at the Catholic Charismatic Center in the 1900 block of Cullen.
De Jesus was taken at gunpoint by a masked man after she got off work at Catherine’s Plus Sizes.
Police said the gunman forced de Jesus into her car and drove away.
The gunman was caught on tape shortly after the abduction withdrawing cash from de Jesus’ account at an ATM, and her car was later found abandoned in Houston.
Since then, there has been no sign of de Jesus, and no suspects have been named in the case.

Investigators seek breaks in abduction

Guilly Puente, sister to Susana De Jesus, attempts to speak during a prayer vigil Tuesday for De Jesus, who was kidnapped on Feb. 2 after she left work in Pearland.
Feb. 18, 2009, 8:36AM
Volunteers suspended intensive ground searches Tuesday for a 37-year-old woman kidnapped more than two weeks ago from a Pearland-area parking lot, but investigators were still working hard to solve the case.
A masked man forced Susana De Jesus into her 2008 Cadillac the night of Feb. 2 as she and a co-worker left Catherines Plus Sizes, where she was the assistant manager. The co-worker told investigators that a dark SUV-type vehicle followed the Cadillac out of the parking lot.
Investigators have been looking at leads in the case, said Capt. Chris Kincheloe, who heads the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Department criminal investigation division, “but not as many as I had hoped for.”
He said he still hopes rewards that have grown to $17,500 will prompt someone to contact police or Crime Stoppers with information that will break the case. “I have to remain optimistic,” Kincheloe said.
Eight Brazoria County investigators, half of Kincheloe’s division, are working on the case. Investigators from Houston, Pearland and the FBI also are involved.
Hundreds of volunteers coordinated by the Friendswood-based Laura Recovery Center searched brush and weeds of widespread areas every day for a week for any sign of De Jesus.
Searchers found only a few dead dogs and other animals and “lots of purses,” said Dawn Davis, senior case manager for the recovery center.
In the end the possible search area remained too big. “You could search every day forever,” Davis said.
The recovery center will remain active distributing fliers and posters in the hopes that someone has information of what happened to DeJesus.
The victim’s sister, Guilly Puente, said she and friends have handed out thousands of fliers with her sister’s photo on it. Puente said she’s gone as far as Katy and Humble to distribute fliers.
“People move around,” she said. “I know that if we could only put a flier in the right person’s hand and touch their heart, we can get my sister back. Somebody knows where she is.”
Anyone with any information should call the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Department at 281-756-2392, Brazoria County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-460-2222 or Houston Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

HOUSTON - Searchers pinpointed a new area to look for signs of a woman who was abducted more than two weeks ago, KPRC Local 2 reported Thursday.
Volunteers from the Laura Recovery Center (http://www.lrcf.net/) will search near MacGregor Park in southeast Houston in hopes of uncovering clues as to Susana De Jesus' whereabouts.
De Jesus, 37, was abducted on Feb. 2 while getting into her own car after she left her job at Catherine's Plus Sizes clothing boutique on Smith Ranch Road near F.M. 518 at about 9:15 p.m.
Search officials said volunteers were not needed.
The search team will be looking in the same area where a man was photographed by an ATM camera using De Jesus' bank card shortly after her disappearance.

Cops: Texas Woman Abducted By Masked Madman
It was Monday, February 2, 2009 when Susana de Jesus was abducted at gunpoint from the shopping center in Pearland, Texas where she works.
According to a witness, Susana was approached by a masked man with a handgun at about 9:15 p.m.
Susana was directly targeted by the madman, who took no interest whatsoever in Susana's co-worker -- who is now the best witness in the abduction.
According to investigators searching for Susana, the abductor ordered her into her own vehicle, and they drove away.
Police are not sure whether or not Susana knew her abductor before the crime.
The suspect is African-American, but other than that Police have very little to go on.

De Jesus reward now $17,500
By NATALIE TORENTINOS (ntorentinos@hcnonline.com)
Updated: 02.17.09
Two weeks after the abduction of Susana De Jesus from a west Pearland shopping center, the reward for information solving the case was raised to $17,500, as no leads or substantial evidence were found as of Tuesday.
Brazoria County Sheriff Department Capt. Chris Kincheloe said police are still investigating despite the lack of major developments.
Starting Tuesday, the Friendswood-based Laura Recovery Center for Missing Children suspended sending out search teams from Bass Pro Shops on the corner of Beltway 8 and SH 288 in order to redirect efforts in flyer distribution and public awareness events.
Concentrated search efforts will continue based on information that comes into the center.
Erika Diaz, a friend of De Jesus’s sister, braved the brush, barbed wire and hot temperatures as she helped search by Almeda Genoa and Fellows Road on Wednesday, Feb. 11.
“You pray you find something, and you pray you don’t,” Diaz said.
Search efforts intensified last week when the LRC recruited as many as 90 volunteers – many of them family members and friends of the abduction victim – almost every week day and up to 100 over the weekend.
Teams of 10 to 12 volunteers searched near the abduction site and the site of the suspects' ATM withdrawal at Old Spanish Trail and their abandoned car at West Airport, and as far west as Katy, south to Angleton, and east to Pasadena, said LRC Executive Director Bob Walcutt.
“They were searching some very large areas and doing it very carefully,” Walcutt said. “Their safety was paramount. If they find a body, their job is to stop, back up, and call the police. Their job is solely to search. I’m not saying they’re going to find that, but we just don’t want to disturb anything.”
Some teams searched as long as four to five hours, depending on the terrain, Walcutt said.
Any information gathered by volunteers was hand-delivered to the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office in Angleton.
“They’ll know what we’ve searched, so they can see what we’re doing and who’s coming out to search,” he said.
De Jesus, 37, was allegedly abducted at gunpoint outside of Catherine's Plus Sizes, 2754 Smith Ranch Road, Feb. 2 around 9:15 p.m.
A widow with no children, De Jesus’s husband died in a car accident last May.
The suspect reportedly forced De Jesus into her 2008 black Cadillac and drove away with her. A co-worker who saw the kidnapping was so upset she waited several hours before calling police.
This isn’t the first abduction the LRC has worked on. Founded in 1997 to prevent runaways, abductions and to recover missing children, the LRC organized search operations throughout the United States, but with mixed results.
“Success is kind of relative,” Walcutt said. “You have teams searching and you may not find the person, but with the media coverage, someone in the community might see it and follow up on it.”
How does one keep their hopes up when the victim isn’t found?
Walcutt emphasized that “There’s always hope.”
Anyone with tips for the Sheriff’s Office should call 281-756-2392, or call 713-222-TIPS for Crime Stoppers.

Kidnapper seen on fast-food tape
By John Lowman (http://thefacts.com/contact.lasso?ewcd=c9174fb7fc97a867c99cd3231d1f985 dc1fb156640913ff133d8ad3827a693d9)
The Facts
Published February 24, 2009
ANGLETON — The man police suspect kidnapped a women’s clothing store manager in Pearland on Feb. 2 drove her car to a Houston fast food restaurant before ditching the black 2008 Cadillac at a Houston apartment complex.
Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Chris Kincheloe released surveillance camera photos of the man, taken at a Whataburger in the 7600 block of West Belfort in Houston. The images were captured at about 3:40 a.m. Feb. 3 and show a man leaning into the drive-through window to pay for food at the restaurant.
“It’s not a perfect image, but it’s the one we have,” he said. The photos were enhanced by NASA to make them more clear. It did not appear there was anyone other than the man in the car at the restaurant, Kincheloe said.
“I can only see one person,” he said. Police declined to say how he paid for the food.
Susana DeJesus, 37, of Houston was forced at gunpoint into her car after leaving the store at a shopping center at Highway 288 and FM 518. DeJesus and a co-worker were leaving the store about 9:15 p.m. Feb. 2 when the masked and gloved man approached with a silver handgun, demanding DeJesus get into the Cadillac.
The co-worker didn’t immediately call police, but called her son in Canada, who contacted authorities about two hours after the abduction, sheriff’s Lt. Russ Baker has said.
A person Kincheloe described as “a family friend” called to report DeJesus missing after midnight Feb. 3 and at that time, the OnStar was activated in her car, sheriff’s investigator Wade Nichols said. The Cadillac’s signal was picked up on Highway 225 near LaPorte at about 2:40 a.m. and tracked to the Whataburger. The car was found abandoned at an apartment complex in the 6000 block of West Airport Boulevard later in the day Feb. 3.
The Whataburger is less than a 20-minute drive from the well-lit parking lot from which DeJesus was abducted, Nichols said. Police believe the man who left the scene with DeJesus was driven to the parking lot by another person in a large, dark truck or SUV, Kincheloe has said.
It has been about three weeks since DeJesus was last seen, but police have not given up hope of finding her alive, Kincheloe said.
“We want to get her home to her people,” he said. “I have no reason to believe she’s not alive. She’s a good person. She’s been a good person all her life.”
Police have repeatedly said the co-worker is not a suspect in the case but have not identified any lead “person of interest,” Kincheloe said.
The fact the kidnapper was comfortable enough to take DeJesus from the well-lit parking lot, when she was in the company of a co-worker could mean he has a history of landing on the wrong side of the law.
“It shows they’re brazen and comfortable with what they’re doing,” he said. “This wasn’t this character’s first time around the block.”
The store for which DeJesus worked has added $10,000 to a reward offered for information leading to DeJesus, bringing that amount to $27,500.
Anyone with information should call the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Department at (281) 756-2392, or Crime Stoppers at (800) 460-2222.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- There are new developments in the search for Susana DeJesus. She was abducted at gunpoint three weeks ago from a shopping center in Pearland.
The Brazoria County Sheriff's Department released new information in the hope that it will spark some new leads in the case. The photos are NASA-enhanced images that authorities received. The photos show the vehicle of DeJesus with a man driving it at the drive-through of a Whataburger on Bellfort in the early morning hours of February 3. DeJesus disappeared the night of February 2.
Authorities believe the man driving is alone in the vehicle. They say they see no signs of DeJesus in the SUV.
Officials also pointed out that the man reaches in with his right hand when ordering food, and is careful not to use his left hand. That leads investigators to believe that perhaps he has some kind of marking or tattoo on his left hand or arm and he is trying t hide it.
It's been three weeks since DeJesus vanished. The 37-year-old was leaving work when a co-worker witnessed the kidnapping. Investigators are hoping that by showing these pictures, someone will come forward with some new information, as tips to authorities have slowed down.
"(With) this additional $10,000 ... bringing (the reward money) to $27,500 and these images, I'm hoping that someone will come up with a good lead," explained Captain Chris Kincheloe with the Brazoria County Sheriff's office.
DeJesus' employer has kicked in the additional $10,000 in reward money.
At this point, officials are still hopeful that DeJesus is still alive because there has been no information to indicate otherwise.

COMING TOGETHER: Edward Pina, in striped shirt, is comforted by loved ones before a vigil for his wife, Sabrina, at Christ the Good Shepherd Church on Monday, the day her remains were identified.
When Sabrina Pina’s family learned Monday that a body found in a northwest Harris County ditch had been identified as hers, the woman’s father sent out a heartbreaking text message to close friends.
“It’s my baby girl,” Rolando Tolentino of Spring wrote in the message, which was sent to friends’ cell phones at 2:23 p.m.
Sheriff’s homicide investigators and Harris County medical examiner’s officials have not yet released how Pina, 27, was killed, but her death has been ruled a homicide. It was not clear Monday night if her family had been told how she died.
Pina is believed to have been abducted Saturday afternoon after going to a Kohl’s department store at Texas 249 and Spring Cypress. The Tomball woman’s truck was later found in the store’s parking lot with purchases she made earlier that day still in her vehicle, friends said.
Pina’s clothed body was found about 7 a.m. Sunday in a ditch at Jack Road and Warren Ranch Road, a rural area near Hockley about 23 miles from the store.
Nearly 250 people gathered Monday evening at a vigil at Christ the Good Shepherd, Pina’s childhood church, to remember a woman described as bright, loving and kind. As the service began, a woman’s sobs echoed through the sanctuary. Pina’s husband, Edward, sat in the front row between his wife’s parents and his own mother. He bowed his head and clutched the front of the pew with both hands as he wept quietly.
The scent of incense filled the room as prayers were read and hymns were sung. Tears rolled down somber faces in the crowd. Pina’s father spoke to the crowd toward the end of the service.
“Our hearts are ripped open and we can barely breathe,” he said as his voice cracked. “With every text message I receive every 15 seconds and phone call every three minutes and with every hug, you are stitching back our hearts.”
Law enforcement officials said it is too soon to say whether Pina’s abduction is connected to the Feb. 2 kidnapping of Susana de Jesus, a 37-year-old Houston woman taken at gunpoint from a Pearland shopping center, also located in a suburban area near a major freeway. De Jesus has never been found.
Brazoria County sheriff’s detectives who are investigating De Jesus’ disappearance have been in touch with the Harris County sheriff’s homicide investigators working Pina’s case. There was not enough information to compare the crimes Monday, but both agencies will discuss the two cases in the future, said Brazoria County sheriff’s Capt. Chris Kincheloe.
Pina was running errands Saturday when she called her husband from Home Depot around noon to ask what kind of garbage disposal to buy. She was last seen at a Sonic at 1:30 p.m., where she was captured on video by a surveillance camera, said Jeffrey Armenta, a close friend of Pina’s. She is believed to have vanished between 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Her vehicle was found at the Kohl’s store parking lot at 22529 Tomball Parkway, also known as Texas 249.
Harris County sheriff’s homicide investigators did not respond to repeated requests for information on the case Monday. Pina’s friends pleaded with anyone who saw anything suspicious to call homicide detectives at 713-967-5810 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
“She was funny, she was powerful. She’s very much missed,” said Jeffrey Armenta’s wife, Tatiana Armenta, who described herself at Pina’s best friend.
The two women graduated together from Klein High School in 2000. “We were actually dreading that we were old enough to be going to our 10-year (high school) reunion,” Armenta said.
Pina went on to graduate from the University of Texas and was working for TXU Energy’s marketing department at the time of her disappearance. She and her husband married in October 2006. They have no children.
Customers outside the Kohl’s store where Pina’s truck was found said Monday that they are frightened by the disappearances of two women from suburban shopping centers in the same month.
“I’m very scared,” said Ana Cabrera, 56, who lives in the Spring Cypress area. “I see it as a similar case.”
“I always walk outside with my keys ready, and I pay attention,” Bauman said. “I’m always paranoid ... It could happen to any one of us.”

Susana De Jesus was abducted at gunpoint.
TIPS STILL NEEDED
Anyone with information on the disappearance of Susana De Jesus can call 713-222-TIPS, 877-999-TIPS or the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Department at 281-756-2392.
When law officers investigating the abduction of a Pearland woman turned to NASA for help in improving images captured by a fast-food restaurant’s security camera, they tapped into expertise the space agency has developed over decades of spotting potentially deadly flaws in space vehicles.
Brazoria County Sheriff’s Capt. Chris Kincheloe expressed optimism the enhancements of photos taken by a camera at a Whataburger at 7229 W. Belfort may prove pivotal in identifying a man driving Susana De Jesus’ 2008 Cadillac after her Feb. 2 abduction from the parking lot of a Pearland-area clothing store.
The photos show a black or Hispanic man wearing a red T-shirt with writing on the back. The awkward movement of the man’s gloved hands in the security tape led authorities to believe he might have a distinctive tattoo he was attempting to conceal.
De Jesus, 37, was not visible in the car.
Tracy Calhoun of NASA’s Image Science and Analysis Laboratory at Johnson Space Center said her department was created after the 1986 explosion of space shuttle Challenger. The laboratory is charged with scrutinizing astronauts’ photos of space vehicles for evidence they have been damaged.
“When we find anything that looks abnormal, we apply skills and laboratory tools to extract as much information as we can,” she said. “We look at lengths and depths. If something is moving, we try to extract the velocity.”
The laboratory, which works extensively with the international space station, shuttle program and Constellation project to return astronauts to the moon, gained added impetus after space shuttle Columbia disintegrated on re-entry in February 2003.
That vehicle and its crew perished when protective heat tiles were damaged by insulation that broke free from the craft on takeoff.
In the past 15 to 20 years, Calhoun said, the laboratory has assisted law enforcement agencies in enhancing images gathered in about 50 investigations. One one occasion, they clarified the image of a bloody fingerprint found on a blanket. In another, they reassembled snippets of a passing auto — captured by a camera positioned in a narrow space between buildings — into a comprehensive photo of the suspect vehicle.
The NASA lab entered the De Jesus case at the request of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which is assisting the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Department in its investigation.
Tapes from surveillance cameras such as the one at Whataburger often don’t give laboratory staff much to work with.
“They have a low frame rate and low resolution,” Calhoun said. “So what we do is apply programs in the laboratory. Sometimes we go to Photoshop. We use software to bring out the details if there’s poor exposures and the images initially look dark. We also do sharpening if there’s a little fuzz. ... We use pretty common tools, but we have very skilled people.”

PEARLAND, Texas—When Brazoria County Sheriff’s detectives first began investigating the mysterious abduction of Susana de Jesus, they quickly thought they had a motive.
Four days later, they made a move to reassure the public, implying the attack might not have been random.
They suspected the motive was a dispute over her late husband’s life insurance policy.
But now a month has passed since de Jesus vanished from the parking lot of a Pearland shopping center, and the leads in the case have turned up empty.
Two men were questioned, but investigators said their DNA was not found in de Jesus’ abandoned Cadillac.
The family believes the public likely paid less attention to the case after hearing the abduction might not have been random.
They’re hoping that a timeline of the abduction might help jog someone’s memory and stir up new leads in the case.

Susana de Jesus
The whole thing started with the 911 call from de Jesus’ coworker, which came in more than an hour after the abduction.
The coworker said de Jesus was taken by an armed, masked man at 9:16 p.m.
But there’s more to that story—de Jesus made two phone calls after she was kidnapped.
At 9:55 p.m., de Jesus called her sister, asking her to tell their mother that she would be late, and that she had to give a coworker a ride home.
At 10:05 p.m., de Jesus made a cryptic phone call to a friend. She asked the friend if someone would still be able to find her if she hadn’t paid her OnStar bill.
That call was traced to a cell phone tower on top of the Astrodome, indicating de Jesus and her kidnapper may have been somewhere around the South Loop.
At 10:31 p.m., the suspect was caught on camera using de Jesus’ ATM card to withdraw money at a bank on Old Spanish Trail.
Around 1 a.m., de Jesus’ sister started to worry and went to HPD’s Mykawa police station to file a missing persons report.
At 2:40 p.m. OnStar began tracking de Jesus’ Cadillac, but Brazoria County detectives didn’t find out about that until much later. OnStar said the car was traveling northbound on Highway 225, driving back toward Houston from the La Porte area.
At 3:26 a.m., the suspect is caught on camera buying food at a Whataburger on West Airport. He stayed there for 14 minutes.
On the tape, the suspect is never seen using his left arm. He is still wearing a glove and appears to have a distinctive nose.
At 4:58 a.m., OnStar located de Jesus’ car, and her sister and a friend rushed to an apartment complex at 6363 West Airport.
At 7:02 a.m., the friend said he saw a black man getting out of de Jesus’ Cadillac at the complex. De Jesus’ sister called 911.
By the time police arrived, the suspect was gone.
Police sources told 11 News and the Laura Recovery Center that a number of things were recovered from de Jesus’ car, besides DNA.
Police said they found money and a gun, which was traced back to three home invasions in the Pearland area.
Those crimes happened before de Jesus disappeared – one of them on the same day of her abduction.
The family hopes the new information – and the $ 27,500 reward – will help them solve the mystery of what happened to Susana de Jesus.
If you know anything that could help, contact the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office.

This is a lot of new info and since the gun was related to the home invasions they may get more info. Too bad that the police didn't know that onstar had located car when it was traveling back. And then missing the suspect at the complex was unfortunate.
Hope someone realizes something they didn't know was important and comes forward.

Woman may have made calls after kidnapping
By John Lowman (http://thefacts.com/contact.lasso?ewcd=c9174fb7fc97a867c99cd3231d1f985 dc1fb156640913ff14b7837590a58da74)
The Facts Published March 6, 2009
PEARLAND — Susana DeJesus called her sister less than an hour after she was taken at gunpoint from a Pearland parking lot Feb. 2, according to officials with a group searching for the missing clothing store assistant manager.
A co-worker told police DeJesus, 37, of Houston was forced into her 2008 Cadillac while leaving work in a large shopping center at FM 518 and Highway 288 about 9:15 p.m. Feb. 2, Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Russ Baker has said. The center is in the middle of a busy shopping area surrounded by crowded city streets and many overhead lights.
DeJesus reportedly called her sister, Guilly Puente, to say she’d be home late and called to ask a friend about OnStar service.
“That is my understanding from our folks talking to the family,” Laura Recovery Center co-founder Bob Smither said. Family members could not be reached for comment.
Smither joins police in hoping a $27,500 reward will net information leading to DeJesus’ recovery.
“We’ve searched any area that makes sense to search,” Smither said. “At this point, we’re sort of in a holding pattern hoping somebody will come forward and give us another piece of the puzzle.”
Brazoria County Sheriff’s Capt. Chris Kincheloe would not confirm the phone calls, or reports they came from Houston at 9:55 p.m. and 10:05 p.m.
“That’s evidentiary in nature and I cannot discuss it,” Kincheloe said. “To ensure the integrity of this investigation, I cannot discuss any evidence.”
Police have said the man suspected of abducting DeJesus arrived at the Pearland shopping center in a large, dark truck or SUV, and DeJesus’ parting words to the co-worker were to ask if she had a cell phone.
Someone drove the large, dark vehicle from the Pearland parking lot, and DeJesus’ car was found abandoned in southwest Houston the day after her abduction.
Authorities have released surveillance camera photos of the man they believe is the kidnapper, taken at a Whataburger in the 7600 block of West Belfort in Houston about 3:40 a.m. Feb. 3. A family friend called to report DeJesus missing after midnight Feb. 3, and at that time, the OnStar was activated in her car, sheriff’s investigator Wade Nichols has said. The Cadillac’s signal was picked up on Highway 225 near La Porte about 2:40 a.m. and tracked to the Whataburger.
The car was found abandoned at an apartment complex in the 6000 block of West Airport Boulevard later in the day Feb. 3.
Between 10 and 15 groups of about 10 people each searched near the Sam Houston Tollway and Highway 288 on Feb. 15 and scoured McGregor Park on Feb. 20 but found no evidence, Smither said. Police information and tips led to both searches, Smither said.

De Jesus made calls soon after abduction
Updated: 03.09.09
The case of a woman abducted from a Pearland parking lot one month ago has taken an interesting twist this week, with reports that she made two cell phone calls after she was forced into her car at gunpoint, and that critical hours passed before police were even sure of who they were looking for on the night of the crime.
Susana De Jesus was walking a co-worker to her car around 9:15 p.m. on Feb. 2, when a masked and gloved gunman forced her into her 2008 black Cadillac in a west Pearland parking lot before driving off.
Images of the car and a male driver were recorded later that night at an ATM on Old Spanish Trail in Houston, and a fast food restaurant on West Bellfort. The car was found the next morning at an apartment complex on West Airport.
The search for De Jesus so far has failed to turn up any sign of the woman or her abductors.
But this week reports surfaced on Houston television media that De Jesus made a phone call to her sister about half an hour after she was abducted, asking the sister to call their mother to tell her that she was taking a co-worker home and that she would be late.
A few minutes later, De Jesus then called a friend, to ask if the friend knew if her car still could be tracked if she hadn’t paid her bill to the OnStar vehicle locater service.
According to the timeline for those cell calls, they occurred about an hour before the first 9-1-1 call was made on the abduction, from the co-worker, who allegedly delaying contacting police out of fear.
De Jesus’ sister reported her missing to Houston police around 1 a.m.
OnStar, it turns out, had started tracking the Cadillac around 2:40 a.m., as it was traveling northbound on State Highway 225 from La Porte. OnStar reportedly located the vehicle in the apartment parking lot around 5 a.m., and notified De Jesus’ sister.
Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office investigators have been tight-lipped about the case, since holding a press conference the week of the kidnapping to say that De. Jesus’ abduction quite possibly was not a random crime of opportunity.
Fears in west Pearland had been heightened at the time of the abduction, after three home invasions that included one assault on a couple leaving for work, and two others in which residents were forced back into their homes and bound while their homes were ransacked. One of those home invasions occurred on the day De Jesus was snatched.
A BCSO lieutenant and several deputies were assigned to the case that night, but a detective was not assigned to the case until the next day when the missing woman was identified as De Jesus, according to Pearland Journal media partner KTRK-TV Houston.

Oh this is so sad anna.
I think she was found inside the back of a large truck.
The woman's body was discovered early Tuesday inside an 18-wheeler parked in the 9000 block of Knight Road near West Bellfort. The location is an office center near Reliant Park.
OnStar later tracked the vehicle to an apartment complex on West Airport.
Two men were questioned, but investigators said their DNA was not found in de Jesus’ abandoned Cadillac.

That's what I'm wondering. I know there are a lot of trucking companies that are having to park some of their rigs, with the economy being so bad. It would have to be someone familiar with that co...to know that truck was there and not in use.....IMO. I'm sure LE will now be looking into the employees of the company that owns this truck.

Susana De Jesus, 37, was abducted at gunpoint on Feb. 2 by a man who forced her into her 2008 Cadillac at a Pearland shopping center.
Investigators have informed the family of Susana De Jesus that a body found in south Houston, not far from Reliant Park, may be hers, a spokesman for the family said this morning.
The body was found about 2:30 a.m. in the trailer of an 18-wheel truck in a light-industrial business park in the 9000 block of Knight, near West Bellfort.
"It was in an advanced state of decomposition and it's going to the (Harris County) Medical Examiner's Office for identification," said Jodi Silva, a spokeswoman for the Houston Police Department.
The truck also has been removed from the gravel-surface lot to be processed for evidence. The site is just southeast of the area once occupied by AstroWorld.
De Jesus, 37, was abducted at gunpoint on the night of Feb. 2 as she and a co-worker left their jobs at a women's clothing store in a Pearland shopping center.
The co-worker said a masked man with a pistol forced De Jesus into her 2008 Cadillac and drove away, followed by a dark-colored van or sport-utility vehicle.
The man was photographed later that night by the camera at a bank's ATM at 3636 Old Spanish Trail in south Houston. He was in De Jesus' car, but it was not clear whether she was still in the car.
The car was recovered the next morning in the 6300 block of West Airport in Houston.
De Jesus' abduction triggered widespread search efforts, but no trace of her was found.
Danny Perez, who has acted as a spokesman for the family, said this morning, "While nothing is confirmed and final determination will have to be made by the medical examiner's office, the family wishes to express gratitude to everyone who helped search for Susana and supported the family during this trying time.
"They want to especially thank the Laura Recovery Center for their tireless efforts," said Perez, who works as the spokesman for Harris County Precinct 6 Constable Victor Trevino.
Family members have declined to comment while they await more details.
The family revealed last week that De Jesus made two phone calls from the car on the night of Feb. 2, although they were not aware at the time that she had been abducted.
Her sister, Guilly Puente, said she received a call at 9:55 p.m.
"She just said that she was taking someone home and would be late," Puente said, adding that De Jesus did not sound upset during the short call. "I didn't pay much attention to it."
In another call, at 10:05 p.m. from somewhere near Reliant Park to a family friend, De Jesus asked if the OnStar device in her car could help to locate her even though she had not paid the OnStar subscription.
"That did sound suspicious," Puente said.
But investigators were hindered because De Jesus' frightened co-worker did not report the abduction until about 11:30 p.m. She knew De Jesus only as "Susie," and Brazoria County sheriff investigators learned the kidnapped woman's full name only after a family friend reported the strange phone call about 2 a.m.
OnStar began tracking the Cadillac about 2:40 a.m., heading toward Houston from the La Porte area, in east Harris County, said Brazoria County sheriff's Capt. Chris Kincheloe. The car followed Beltway 8 access roads to south Houston.
Puente filed a missing-person report with Houston police about 3 a.m. The car was recorded by the drive-through camera at a Whataburger on Bellfort in Houston about 3:30 a.m. before stopping at at 6363 W. Airport, Puente said.
The family friend went to that location and, at 7:02 a.m., saw a man getting out of the Cadillac, Puente said. She called 911 and Houston police arrived about 20 minutes later.
The family has not heard from De Jesus since that night.
At the site where the body was found today, an employee at a nearby business said he had wondered about the truck trailer that had sat in the lot for months.
Broderick Holdman, who works at The Blood Center, said the gates on the lot's chain-link fence are always open, so anyone would have had access to the trailer. He said he went to look at the trailer about a month ago, out of curiosity, but didn't notice anything unusual and didn't check to see if the doors were locked.

Just before 10 p.m. Monday, Pearland police arrested a man wanted in connection with an attempted carjacking of a Pearland resident earlier in the day near Magnolia Elementary School.
Investigators said the 21-year-old man led officers to the trailer, but they do not know if he was responsible for the woman's death.
He remained in custody Tuesday evening and was being questioned about the woman's body and the attempted carjacking.
His name will not be released until charges are filed, police said.
"I can't give you really the specifics about what we've learned from the suspect," said Lt. Onesimo Lopez with the Pearland Police Department.
Several law enforcement agencies are questioning the suspect.
A bloodhound team found the man nearly 14 hours into the search on Monday. He hid in a shed behind a home in the 5400 block of Spring Branch, police said. The search forced officials to close Magnolia Elementary School early.
A person who works nearby said the trailer had been parked at the lot behind a business park for about a month.
People who work nearby said the gate remains open all the time.
"There's a lot of traffic that comes in and out with these warehouses, but we know which cars are supposed to be here, whatever. You'll see cars go in there and make the turnaround and leave," said Rudy DelaRosa. "That trailer has probably been parked there for three months, if not, maybe a year."
The trailer was taken to an impound lot.

Body might be that of missing woman

The Facts
Published March 11, 2009
PEARLAND — Clothes found on a body in Houston on Tuesday matched those a Pearland woman was seen wearing before she was kidnapped, and Houston media reports tie a man caught in a Pearland manhunt Monday to the woman’s disappearance.
Pearland Police Lt. Onesimo Lopez said police interviewed a man suspected of attempting to steal a car from the driveway of a home in the 3500 block of Lindhavenin Pearland, then firing a shotgun at police.
Nicholas-Michael Jean, 21, of Pearland was charged with attempted murder, aggravated kidnapping, burglary, aggravated robbery and theft of a firearm, all felonies, and all related to the manhunt on Monday. He was taken to the Brazoria County jail on more than $1.2 million bond.
Brazoria County Sheriff Charles Wagner would not say whether Jean had anything to do with police finding the body that is believed to be Susana DeJesus, a Houston woman abducted at gunpoint from a shopping center at FM 518 and Highway 288 on Feb. 2.
“I’m not saying he did or he didn’t lead police to the body,” Wagner said. “Some media have (the events) connected, naming a law enforcement source, but they haven’t said with what agency. We are, at this point, working with the Pearland Police Department on their investigation of the guy they have in custody.”
Lopez would not tie Monday’s attempted carjacking and eventual arrest with the 2:30 a.m. Monday discovery of a badly decomposed body in the trailer of an 18-wheel truck near the old Astroworld site in Houston. He did say police interviewed Jean overnight and were “chasing down leads.”
Meanwhile, the Harris County medical examiner’s office is working to positively identify the body.
“The clothing matched what she was wearing,” Wagner said. “That’s the only thing we have to identify her.”
Police went to the Houston location hours after Pearland police arrested Jean in the backyard of a home in the 5400 block of Spring Branch in Pearland about 10 p.m. Monday.
The arrest marked the end of a 14-hour manhunt that started at about 6 a.m. Monday when a man attempted to steal a car from the 3500 block of Lindhaven after forcing the owner into the trunk, according to a probable cause affidavit filed with the Brazoria County district attorney. The victim’s wife saw the scuffle and called police.
The victim escaped from the trunk and a man fired a shotgun once, according to the affidavit. Police sirens apparently frightened the man, who fled on foot, the affidavit states.
The burglar fired one shot at police as he jumped a fence in the neighborhood, Wagner said.
During the search from 6 a.m. to about 2 p.m., Magnolia Elementary was closed to students as Pearland Junior High South and Glenda Dawson High School students were made to shelter in place.
An investigation into the possible connection between the carjacking suspect and DeJesus’ disappearance continued late Tuesday, sheriff’s Capt. Chris Kincheloe said.
The sheriff’s office and Pearland police plan a joint press conference at the sheriff’s office at 10 a.m. today, Kincheloe said.
Police have said the man suspected of abducting DeJesus arrived at the Pearland shopping center in a large, dark truck or SUV, and DeJesus’ parting words to a co-worker were to ask if she had a cell phone. Reports had DeJesus making two calls from Houston using her cell phone about an hour after she was abducted.
Authorities last week released surveillance camera photos of the man they believe is the kidnapper, taken at a Whataburger in the 7600 block of West Bellfort in Houston about 3:40 a.m. Feb. 3.
The car was found abandoned at an apartment complex in the 6000 block of West Airport Boulevard later Feb. 3.

Suspect charged in attempted carjacking
Wednesday, March 11, 2009 | 6:28 AM
PEARLAND, TX (KTRK) -- Eyewitness News has learned a man arrested Monday after a carjacking led police to what may be the body of missing Pearland woman, Susana DeJesus.
Sources told Eyewitness News a gun found in Susana DeJesus (http://search.abclocal.go.com/search/results?station=ktrk&search=siteSearch&q=Susana+DeJesus)' vehicle the night she was abducted was used in a home invasion that same night, over five weeks ago. A law enforcement source told us it's believed DeJesus' clothing was on the body which was found.
Nicholas-Michael Jean, 21, has been charged with attempted murder, burglary of a habitation, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery and theft of a firearm. [/URL]
After hours and hours of police interviews, Jean faced his second night at the Pearland (http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/local&id=6703136&rss=rss-ktrk-article-6703136#bodyText) City Jail. Other inmates told us he is being held away from the general population. He's been questioned by officers from three different agencies, and has been offering some information.
"I wouldn't necessarily call him cooperative, but the information that we've been able to obtain has come only after a drawn out interview process that started late last night and continued through the morning," said Lt. Onesimo Lopez of the Pearland Police Department.
Some of that information has broken the high-profile kidnapping case of DeJesus wide open. Law enforcement sources told us that the suspect led police to a decomposed woman's body found inside a trailer near Reliant Park. The body's clothing was similar to what DeJesus was wearing when she was kidnapped at gunpoint from a Pearland strip mall five weeks ago.
After a daylong manhunt for whom they believed was just an armed car thief on Monday, Pearland police learned far more. Sources said when bloodhounds led police to the suspect on Monday night, he then told authorities he had some information they may want. He led them to the body in the trailer and claimed he did not kill the woman, but was involved with the crime.
Jean has not been charged related in the DeJesus kidnapping. Brazoria County officials are not ruling out that Jean may have had accomplices. His bond is set at more than $1.2 million but investigators say this is just the beginning.
"I'm very optimistic that by in the morning, we'll have a major breakthrough in the case and criminal charges will be filed," said Captain Chris Kincheloe with the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office.
Later today, Jean will be moved to the Brazoria County Jail. There is a news conference scheduled at 10am where investigators are expected to release more information in this case.
In the meantime, a friend of the DeJesus family released a statement that read, "We never gave up hope that she would come home to us and make us smile as she always did. Regardless of what happened, we know she will always walk with the angels of God and be protected from harm."
Medical examiners will make the final determination of whether the body that was found in the trailer was in fact DeJesus.

BREAKING NEWS: Body Confirmed as Susana DeJesus
KIAH Staff
March 11, 2009
According to the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office, a body was found early Tuesday morning is that of missing Pearland woman, Susana DeJesus. Houston Police say the body was found at 2:30 a.m. in an industrial park in the 9000 block of Knight. That's near Reliant Park in Southwest Houston. Her body was inside a 54-foot tractor trailer without an attached cab.
"The body was in an advanced state of decomposition, and was taken for to the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office for identification," said Jodi Silva, a spokesperson for HPD.
Brazoria County Sheriff deputies say that DeJesus was kidnapped at gunpoint on February 2, as she left her job at Catherine Plus Sizes on FM 518 in Pearland. DeJesus' co-worker told police that she saw a masked man with a gun force DeJesus into her black 2008 Cadillac, and drive off. The car was found hours later, abandoned in southwest Houston. Police released video surveillance photos from a bank ATM, and a fast food restaurant drive-thru, showing a man driving DeJesus' car.
A suspect in another Pearland carjacking, identified as Nicholas Michael-Jean, has told police that he is the man seen in the What-A-Burger surveillance photo. In a press conference this morning, Brazoria County investigators say that the abduction of DeJesus was a crime of greed. Investigators say she was targeted because the thief wanted her car. Investigators also believe that Michael-Jean may have been a part of a series of home invasions in Pearland.

My condolences, also. Such a beautiful lady. So very sad.
I wonder if she was selected to be carjacked and murdered because it was such a nice car they figured she had money? We may never know. And how was she getting to call onstar, was he telling her to?
You're exactly right, Nana.
"Brazoria County investigators say that the abduction of DeJesus was a crime of greed. Investigators say she was targeted because the thief wanted her car. "

Police say greed led to woman’s slaying
Published March 12, 2009
ANGLETON — Police say a man charged in an attempted carjacking in Pearland led them to the body of a woman abducted last month and admitted to being the person recorded on surveillance video in her car just after she disappeared.
Susana DeJesus, 37, of Houston was abducted at gunpoint from a shopping center at FM 518 and Highway 288 in Pearland on Feb. 2.
Police arrested Nicholas-Michael Jean, 21, of Pearland, on Monday night in a separate carjacking and led police to her body in the trailer of an 18-wheeler in a business park on Knight Road, near the old Astroworld site in Houston, Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Chris Kincheloe said.
Jean is not charged in DeJesus’ slaying. Kincheloe would not say whether Jean admitted to killing DeJesus, but said he told investigators the body is hers.
Charges are pending against Jean for the aggravated kidnapping of DeJesus, Brazoria County District Attorney Jeri Yenne said.
DeJesus apparently was abducted for her 2008 Cadillac, Kincheloe said.
“Just straight-up greed,” Kincheloe said. “It appears the motive of this person was a carjacking. It appears to have been random. It appears he took her from the parking lot straight to Knight Road.”
Jean lived in a Pearland apartment, sometimes alone and sometimes with a girlfriend, Kincheloe said.
Police are seeking at least one more person in connection with DeJesus’ kidnapping and death, Kincheloe said, but he would not say more.
“There have been several people interviewed that have been associates of this individual,” Kincheloe said.
CAUSE OF DEATH NOT DETERMINED
Jean was charged with attempted murder, aggravated kidnapping, burglary, aggravated robbery and theft of a firearm, all felonies, and all related to an attempted carjacking and 14-hour manhunt on Monday, Yenne said. He remained in police custody Wednesday on more than $1.2 million bond.
While in custody, Jean told police he’s the man caught on video surveillance using DeJesus’ ATM card before midnight Feb. 2, Kincheloe said. DeJesus likely was killed before that video was recorded, Kincheloe said.
“God bless her,” Kincheloe said. “I don’t know how she became the focus of this guy. She may not have done anything. I don’t think she did.”
The Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office on Wednesday afternoon identified the body as DeJesus. The cause of death had not been determined, and police did not know if she was sexually assaulted.
‘MAYBE THIS IS HIM’
Jean was arrested about 10 p.m. Monday after police said he tried to steal a 2009 Dodge Charger from the driveway of a home in the 3500 block of Lindhaven in Pearland, fired a shotgun at police, then was the subject of a 14-hour manhunt.
He was arrested in the backyard of a home in the 5400 block of Spring Branch, Pearland Police Department Lt. Onesimo Lopez said.
“It was on everyone’s mind — ‘Maybe this is him,’” Kincheloe said of Jean since police believe he tried to steal a car at gunpoint, as did the man who kidnapped DeJesus.
When police began questioning Jean, he was specific about the location of the body.
“I guess his conscience got the better of him, and he just started talking,” Kincheloe said. “During the course of the interview and interrogation, he gave up the information. Once he started talking, he just kept moving forward.”
A family friend called to report DeJesus missing after midnight Feb. 3, and at that time, the OnStar was activated in her car, sheriff’s investigator Wade Nichols has said. The Cadillac’s signal was picked up on Highway 225 near La Porte about 2:40 a.m. and tracked to a Whataburger in the 7600 block of West Bellfort in Houston about 3:40 a.m. Feb. 3.
The person who took her car likely abandoned it because they feared they would be caught because of OnStar tracking, Kincheloe said Wednesday. The car was found at an apartment complex in the 6000 block of West Airport Boulevard in Houston on Feb. 3.
Jean had no criminal record, but police believe the silver-colored handgun used in the Feb. 2 kidnapping and the shotgun used in Monday’s attempted carjacking were stolen during one of several Pearland burglaries over the last two months.
The handgun was found in DeJesus’ abandoned car.
A $27,500 reward for information on DeJesus’ disappearance is still available. Anyone with information should call the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Department at (281) 756-2392, or Crime Stoppers at (800) 460-2222.

I just wish the friend that was with her when she was abducted had called 911 right away so LE could have started looking for the car sooner. The friend said she was too scared to call, and called later. It was reported that she did not call till hours later when she called an out-of-state relative who encouraged her to call. If I were the victim's family, that knowledge would torture me....that someone could have called for help right away and did not. I understand she was scared...but..OMG..her friend has just been taken at gun point.

DeJesus died of gunshot wounds to the head
By John Lowman (http://thefacts.com/contact.lasso?ewcd=c9174fb7fc97a867c99cd3231d1f985 dc1fb156640913ff194756ad7a6117f2b)
The Facts
Published March 21, 2009
ANGLETON — Pearland kidnapping victim Susana DeJesus was killed by multiple gunshot wounds to the head, Brazoria County law enforcement officials said Friday.
“The cause of death of Susana DeJesus was gunshot wounds, more than one,” District Attorney Jeri Yenne said. “They were to the head area.”
Yenne declined to comment further, but Brazoria County Sheriff’s Capt. Chris Kincheloe was more specific.
“I’m confident in saying she suffered two gunshot wounds,” he said.
Calls to the Harris County Medical Examiner’s office, where DeJesus’ remains were taken for an autopsy, were not returned Friday.
On March 10, after being arrested the previous evening as a suspect in an unrelated carjacking attempt, Nicholas-Michael Jean, 21, of Pearland led police to the body of a woman later identified as DeJesus inside an 18-wheeler trailer at a business park near Reliant Stadium in Houston. Jean is charged with aggravated kidnapping in the case, but no murder charges have been filed.
That soon could change, said Yenne, who declined to go into depth on pending charges, any information Jean has given police or any details about the investigation.
“This case will be presented in the very near future to a grand jury,” she said. “I would anticipate in the next couple of weeks filing capital murder charges. It’s important for us to do a thorough investigation for the benefit of all of our citizens.”
Sheriff’s Lt. Russ Baker referred calls on the case back to Yenne’s office.
DeJesus was abducted at gunpoint Feb. 2 from the parking lot of a Pearland shopping center and was missing for five weeks. Kincheloe said she was snatched because suspects wanted to steal her black 2008 Cadillac.
That car was found abandoned at a southwest Houston apartment complex Feb. 3.
Wallace Charles Ledet IV, 25, of Pearland was charged Feb. 13 with aggravated kidnapping in connection with the gunpoint abduction, Kincheloe said. Police said Ledet drove Jean to the Pearland shopping center Feb. 2.
A memorial service for DeJesus was Wednesday at St. Luke Evangelist Catholic Church in Houston.
Last Monday, Jean was arrested after Pearland police said he attempting to steal a car from the driveway of a home in the 3500 block of Lindhaven, then fired a shotgun at officers. He was charged with attempted murder, aggravated kidnapping, burglary, aggravated robbery and theft of a firearm, all felonies, and all related to the manhunt.
Jean was charged this week with aggravated robbery in connection with a Feb. 2 incident in which a Pearland woman was tied up and forced into her bedroom closet at her home in the 2900 block of Falls Creek Court. An intruder ordered her face-down on the floor, tied her hands and gagged her with duct tape, Brazoria County Sheriff’s officials have said.
The woman escaped through a small window while the man was going through her belongings in another part of the house.
Police have said Jean’s arrest could lead to the clearing of “several” burglaries and home invasion robberies in Pearland over the past few months.

DA to seek death penalty
By John Lowman (http://thefacts.com/contact.lasso?ewcd=c9174fb7fc97a867c99cd3231d1f985 dc1fb156640913ff133d8ad3827a693d9)
The Facts
Published April 1, 2009
ANGLETON — Prosecutors will seek the death penalty against the man accused of the Feb. 2 kidnapping, robbery and slaying of a Pearland store clerk.
A two-count capital murder indictment handed up by a Brazoria County grand jury Tuesday accuses Nicholas-Michael Jean, 21, of Pearland of killing Susana DeJesus by shooting her while in the course of a robbery. The second count accuses Jean of killing DeJesus during a kidnapping.
An indictment is not a finding of guilt, but a determination enough evidence exists to proceed to trial.
Brazoria County District Attorney Jeri Yenne would only quote from the indictment and declined to expound on the case.
“The allegations are he did intentionally cause the death of Susana DeJesus by shooting her with a firearm,” she said. “He did so in the course of committing robbery or in the course of committing kidnapping. We filed capital murder here (in Brazoria County). This is the highest crime in the state, and we will be seeking the death penalty.”
The last capital murder conviction in Brazoria County was in April 2007 when John Joe Bodley was convicted of the Freeport shooting deaths of two people. Yenne agreed to a life sentence after Bodley waived his right to appeal.
The last Brazoria County person put to death after a capital murder conviction was Virgil Martinez, who was convicted in 1998 of killing four people in a trailer home outside Alvin. He was given a lethal injection Jan. 28 in Huntsville.
Despite DeJesus’ remains having been found in Houston, Tuesday’s indictment against Jean was filed in Brazoria County since part of the incident occurred here, Yenne said.
“Venue exists where any element of the offense occurred,” she said. “It’s clear that elements of this offense took place here.”
DeJesus was abducted at gunpoint Feb. 2 from the parking lot of a Pearland shopping center and was missing for five weeks before her body was found. She had been shot twice in the head, Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Chris Kincheloe has said.
Police have said DeJesus was snatched because suspects wanted to steal her black 2008 Cadillac, which was found abandoned at a southwest Houston apartment complex Feb. 3.
On March 10, after being arrested the previous evening as a suspect in an unrelated carjacking attempt, Jean led police to the body of a woman later identified as DeJesus inside an 18-wheeler trailer at a business park near Reliant Stadium in Houston.
A second man, Wallace Charles Ledet IV, 25, of Pearland was charged March 13 with DeJesus’ abduction but was not indicted on any charges Tuesday. Police said Ledet drove Jean to the Pearland shopping center Feb. 2.
Yenne would not comment further on Ledet. He has not been charged in the slaying.
A spokesman for DeJesus’ family declined comment Tuesday, saying family members are “just trying to absorb everything.”
Sheriff’s Lt. Russ Baker deferred calls regarding the case to the district attorney’s office Tuesday.
The next step is setting pre-trial hearings and a trial, Yenne said. She did not give a timeline.
Also this week, a grand jury indicted Jean on a separate charge of the aggravated kidnapping of DeJesus. That indictment states Jean held DeJesus “in a place she was not likely to be found” while displaying a firearm.
He also was indicted for aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery, attempted murder and burglary for a March 9 incident in which police said he forced a Pearland man into the trunk of the man’s car, then shot at him as he tried to escape.
Jean also was indicted for aggravated assault in connection with a Jan. 21 case in which police said he hit a man on the head with a claw hammer while in the man’s garage.

How totally senseless.. If all they wanted was her car why not just take it and leave her in the parking lot? I just don't understand, and then to abandon the car later..makes no sense. I hope they do get the DP, they deserve it.

Friends remember victim one year after murder
Wednesday, February 03, 2010
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- It's been one year since a well-liked local woman was last seen. Susana DeJesus was later found dead in one of the high-profile cases from last year. Now one of her friends is reflecting on DeJesus' life.
The body of DeJesus was found last March, but she went missing on February 2, so Tuesday marked a year of heartache for her friends and family.
A year later, the wounds are still wide open for DeJesus' friends and family.
"This is her, this is my friend, this is Susana," said friend Rene Munoz.
The 37-year-old disappeared while leaving work at a Pearland clothing shop. In the days following, those closest to her held out hope she was alive.
"A lot of volunteers, the community got together and started searching for her and every day there was hope we could find her," said Munoz.
Weeks of searching by volunteers and law enforcement led to the discovery of her body in a semi-trailer parked near Reliant Stadium.
Two men have been charged in the case. Nicholas Michael Jean is charged with capital murder, accused of forcing DeJesus into her car then kidnapping and shooting her. Wallace Charles Ledet, the accused accomplice, is charged with aggravated kidnapping.
Not a day goes by without friends and family reliving the pain of the past year and the memories of the Susana they dearly miss.
"We want to remember her as the beautiful person she was. The strong person, lively person you would see. When you would see her, she would hug you and brought the best out of everyone," said Munoz.
But this one year anniversary of the kidnapping is particularly painful.
"We hope the community does not forget about her," said Munoz.
For a family waiting for justice, the trial for the men charged in the DeJesus case is scheduled to begin in April in Brazoria County.
