IDA GROVE, Iowa (KTIV) - Next week will be the 12 year anniversary of the disappearance of a Siouxland mother of two. Her family has learned that the case will be re-opened.

NewsChannel Four's Brooke Bickford talked with the family Friday night.

It's a parents worst nightmare.

And it's been a reality Gary and Mary Neumayer have had to cope with for nearly 12 years, the loss of their child.

There daughter Connie was just 21 when she disappeared.

Her case went cold and her missing persons case eventually became a homicide case.

News today that the investigation into her death would be reopened under the newly formed Cold Case Investigation Unit was something her family had expected.

As they wait for answers, the memory of who their daughter was remains.

"'She was' quiet, would never hurt a fly, never hurt anybody. Loved animals. A very caring person , loved her children, Gary Neumayer, victim's father said.

Connie left behind two children a son and daughter who Gary says are doing fine.

But the loss of his first born daughter is something that will never be easy for their family.

Connie Ruddy, the 21 year old mother of two vanished from her Ida Grove, Iowa home without a trace on February 10th 1997.

"We want to remind folks that this case is still open and we haven't forgot about it and we know Connie's family has not forgot about it. We want to re-energize the case any way we can and hopefully get some help from the public so we can move this case forward," said Ida County Sheriff Wade Harriman.

Two years after the young mother went missing a man looking for fossils in the Boyer River near Ida Grove found something mysterious, a human jawbone.

"Dental records confirmed that it was her jaw bone," said Harriman.

At that time, the missing Connie Ruddy was classified as a homicide. And officials went to work looking for more remains.

"We did do a lot of searching along the river down in Crawford County along with the sheriff's office and the National Guard at that time. And no other remains have been found," said Harriman.

No arrests were ever made.

Mary and Gary Neumayer, Connie's parent's have never given up hope that their daughter's killer will be found.

They did bury her jawbone for some closure but continue to wonder what happened to their daughter.

If you have any information on the Connie Ruddy case, authorities urge you to call them.

There will be a cash reward given to anyone who has information leading to an arrest.

Authorities are expected to hold a press conference on Tuesday, the anniversary of her disappearance.
