British philanthropist Sir Peter Lampl has gone missing, Scotland Yard has said.
The 62-year-old is chairman of the Sutton Trust which provides educational opportunities for underprivileged children.
A statement from the Metropolitan police released yesterday evening said Sir Peter went missing from his Wimbledon home at around 08:30 GMT on Sunday.
Sir Peter is described by police as "a white man, approximately 5ft 8in tall, with fair/greying hair and blue eyes, and a slight tan. When last seen he was wearing a blue sweater and blue casual trousers".
The Met report the 62-year-old is on long-term medication, which he has not taken with him.
Detective Inspector Grahame Horwood, of Merton's Missing Persons Unit, said in the statement: "Sir Peter's disappearance is entirely out of character, and his family are understandably very concerned for his safety.

Friends pray for man's safe return
Friends of a missing millionaire philanthropist from south-west London who is suffering from depression said they were "praying" for his safe return.
Sir Peter Lampl, chairman of the Sutton Trust educational charity, disappeared from his Wimbledon home two days ago. The 61-year-old had been taking medication for depression since the breakdown of his marriage, said Tim Devlin, who works for Sir Peter at the Sutton Trust. He did not take the medication with him when he left.
Police said Sir Peter's disappearance was "entirely out of character". Mr Devlin said: "We are all hoping that he is just going to turn up, and something just happened in some way. As days go by we get more and more worried. We are all just hoping and praying that he comes home safely."

A MILLIONAIRE London philanthropist believed to be suffering from depression has gone missing.
Sir Peter Lampl, 61, who established the Sutton Trust to help combat social inequality, has not been seen since leaving his £1.8million Wimbledon home on Sunday morning.
Friends said he had been "out of sorts" after separating last year from his wife of 15 years Karen.
He left the house without his long-term medication, thought to be for depression. It is understood he was dressed in just a sweater and trousers and was not wearing an overcoat.
His family called the police after he failed to return home on Sunday evening and they could not contact him.
The Metropolitan Police took the unusual step of issuing a statement concerning Sir Peter just 36 hours after he disappeared, saying they were "urgently appealing for help" in tracing him. He lives apart from his wife, who is understood to be visiting the United States with their children Katherine, 13, Christopher, 11 and Stephanie, eight.
Today, family members including his sister Erica and a niece gathered at his five-bedroom house to wait for news.
Sir Peter made his fortune in America with private equity firm the Sutton Company and went on to found the charity the Sutton Trust in 1997, which gives educational opportunities to youngsters from underprivileged backgrounds.
He is thought to have lost money during the credit crunch, but friends said he was more depressed about personal rather than financial matters. Tim Devlin, spokesman for the Sutton Trust, said: "It is completely out of character, that is why the family is so concerned.
"I don't know what the medication is, but he has been out of sorts and not himself for some time.
"He left his home at 8.30am and he is usually very meticulous about letting people know where he is. The children are with their mum."
He added: "What we are hoping is that today he will turn up and the whole thing will blow over. The police and the family are very concerned."
Detective Inspector Grahame Horwood, of Merton's Missing Persons Unit, said: "Sir Peter's disappearance is entirely out of character, and his family are understandably very concerned for his safety.
"If anyone has seen him or knows where he is, please get in touch."
Sir Peter moved into his Wimbledon home last year. His wife lives less than two miles away in a sprawling multi-million-pound property that backs onto the Wimbledon All England Lawn Tennis Club.
Sir Peter's neighbour Helgar Hatlestad said: "He is a good neighbour and we would say hello. I came back from Norway on Sunday evening and the police were there saying he had gone missing." Sir Peter has homes in Florida and New York, but police said they do not believe he has left the country.
He is described as about 5ft 8ins, with greying fair hair, blue eyes and a slight tan. When last seen he was wearing a blue sweater and blue casual trousers.
The financier's mother was among the relatives waiting for news at his four-storey detached home. She said she was too upset to talk about her son's disappearance, adding that it was "a very difficult time".
Anyone with information is asked to contact Merton police on 020 8649 3122 or Missing People on 0500 700 700.
