Elderly Broadway Man Missing

The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons has issued a Silver Alert for a missing endangered man who Harnett County officials say drove away from his home Monday.

Harnett County Sheriff's Maj. Gary McNeill said Orlando Sabater Sancha, 82, of Broadway was reported missing by his daughter after he left his home at 9720 McDougald Road in his car.

"We know he was on his own car and he was last accounted for in Sanford, Monday," Maj. McNeill said.

Mr. Sancha was driving a 2007 white Kia Spectra with North Carolina license number YNA-5215 when he was last seen.

Monday's incident is not the first time Mr. Sancha has left home.

"This happened once before and he ended up in Virginia," Maj. McNeill said.

Citizens are asked to help the sheriff's office locate Mr. Sancha.

He is described as a Filipino, approximately 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighing 130 pounds. He has short gray hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black wool cap, a dark blue jacket, dark-colored corduroy pants and black shoes. He wears glasses.

Mr. Sancha, is believed to be suffering from dementia or some other cognitive impairment and has other medical issues, Maj. McNeill said

Anyone with information about Orlando Sabater Sancha should call Harnett County Detective J.D. Maia at 893-9111.

I am not wanting to sound critical of this particular family but why oh why aren't the keys being taken away and secured from the elderly who have dementia?? This is happening way too often!!
