Darius Brown has been missing for several weeks. His family wants him back.

"We just need to find something out about him. Where he's at, if he's okay or if anybody knows anything just let his family know because we love him and we want him back with us," said Delores Brown, Darius's aunt.

Titus county sheriff's investigators say Brown, 22, was last seen January 31st when he walked away from a friends home on FM 2152 north of Mount Pleasant, Texas. He left his cell phone behind.

"As of right now, we have no physical evidence that shows that anything is wrong so this young man could still be alive somewhere and that's what we're hoping for," Titus county Sheriff Tim Ingram said.

Brown is out on parole. Family members say he would often leave for a few days at a time but never weeks without letting someone know he is alright.

If you see Darius, call the Mount Pleasant crimestoppers at (903) 572-CUFF.

There is a $6,000 reward for information that leads to his location.

A reward of up to $6,000 is being offered by Jaguar Transportation Inc., the White Oak Church of God in Christ (COGIC) and the Mount Pleasant Crime Stoppers for information leading to the location of Darius Jamel "D.J." Brown, a Titus County resident who has been missing since Jan. 31 of this year.

"We know someone out there knows where this young man is," said Titus County Sheriff Tim Ingram at a press conference held Thursday at the White Oak COGIC, located on CR 1697.

Brown, 23, was last seen near the church in the 8000 block of FM 2152 (Greenhill Road) wearing red pants and a red-and-white coat.

The young man has not been seen or heard from since that day.

Within two days of his disappearance, Titus County Sheriff's Office deputies served two search warrants at locations Brown was alleged to have been seen at hours before he disappeared, called in a helicopter to fly over the heavily wooded White Oak community as well as the many creeks in the area and also called in search dogs from the Telford Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in their attempt to locate Brown.

"The fact that the dogs didn't pick up a scent indicates to us that D.J. may have been picked up by someone in a vehicle," Ingram said.

"We don't know that for sure, of course, but I know that someone, somewhere, does know what happened," said Ingram.

"In addition to all of the things we've done, our Texas Ranger, Ranger Ken Bond, has also been assisting us and is checking information sources across the state and the country," Ingram said.

"We also brought in the two people we were talking with and administered polygraph tests to them, but so far, we have nothing in the way of actual physical evidence to indicate the involvement of anyone that we have knowledge of right now," said Ingram.

The day after the search warrants were served, Ingram, his Chief Deputy, Scott Sartain, TCSO deputies and game wardens from the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife physically searched many of the White Oak area creeks and hollows with boats and on foot.

The press conference, attended by representatives of the White Oak Community, White Oak COGIC, Titus County Sheriff's Office, Mount Pleasant Crime Stoppers, the Texas Rangers, White Oak Baptist Church, Texarkana COGIC, several area television stations and the Daily Tribune, stressed the need for community involvement to assist law enforcement in finding out where Brown might be found.

During the press conference, the Rev. Jesse Nelson, pastor of White Oak COGIC, announced that the church, in co-operation with Nelson's privately owned trucking company, Jaguar Transportation Inc, will fund a $5,000 reward for information that leads to law enforcement locating Brown.

"This money, in addition to what Crime Stoppers might pay, is an opportunity for someone who knows something about the whereabouts of D.J. or what has happened to D.J. to come forward without being identified and let us know what they know," said Ingram who then introduced Sgt. Kyle Holcomb, Mount Pleasant Police Department liaison officer with Mount Pleasant Crime Stoppers.

If you call the Mount Pleasant Crime Stoppers with information, there is no way we know who you are," said Holcomb.

"When you call Crime Stoppers at 903.572.CUFF or 902.572.2833, you are given a code number and you choose a code name for yourself so that no one else has that combination of identifying information, only you, and you call back to talk to me, and I don't have a way to contact you unless you give it to me," said Holcomb.

"After we talk, I'll give you a time to check back with me and then investigators will check out the information you have given us," he said.

"You'll check back in and if the information you have given us proves to be what we need on the case, then I'll tell you to be at a certain bank drive through at a certain time of day and the bank teller will ask you for your case code and code name and send out an envelope with a cash payment and you'll go on your way without us knowing who you are or without having to appear in court from your contact with Crime Stoppers," Holcomb said.

"Crime Stoppers could pay up to $1,000 for the information, in addition to the $5,000 being put up by Pastor Nelson's company and the church and we all know that money talks, so maybe the possibility of making $6,000 will lead someone to talk," said Ingram.

Holcomb's explanation of the way Crime Stoppers works was in answer to a fear voiced by some people at the press conference that there could be retaliation if information was given to law enforcement.

"You know, at some time the fear has got to stop," answered Ingram.

"Do you know what happens to a bully when you stand up to him?" Ingram asked.

"He stops threatening you, he stops being a bully, but you have to get past your fear," he stressed.

When many of the audience agreed with Ingram by saying "Amen," the sheriff smiled and said, "And that's another thing, prayer works," which brought an even louder "Amen" from the crowd.

In his remarks, Pastor Nelson also stressed the need for people to let go of their fear and work together as a community to gather information on Brown's disappearance.

"We need to work together, to work with the Sheriff and his deputies, to work with other churches to become stronger. We need to work together, to stay together, to pray together," said Nelson.

Nelson and speakers from other congregations joined with Brown's aunt, Delores Brown, in telling those who might be afraid to come forward to give information to Ms. Brown or to their church pastors to pass on to law enforcement.

"If you're afraid or you know someone who knows something and they're afraid, let me know, let Pastor Nelson know, let one of the elders of your church know, call Crime Stoppers, please, please let someone know who can get the information to the Sheriff and get the information checked out and bring Darius home," she pleaded.

"That's all we want," she added. "To bring Darius home."

If you have any information concerning the disappearance of Darius Jamel Brown, you can call the Titus County Sheriff's Office at 903.572.6641, the Mount Pleasant Crime Stoppers at 903.572.CUFF (2833).

You can contact Casey Buechel at cbuechel@dailytribune.net or 903.572.1705, ext 217.

Titus County man disappears

TITUS COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - State, along with Titus County agents have joined forces in the search for an East Texas man who vanished 3 weeks ago.

23 year old Darius Jamel Brown disappeared near Mount Pleasant on January 31st. He was last seen at a residence in the 8000 block of FM 2152, north of Mount Pleasant.

At the press conference Thursday, Sheriffs and a Texas Ranger said a search of the area where Brown vanished produced no leads. They do know that Brown had a large amount of money on him at the time, but do not know if that is related to his disapperance.

They met with community and family members of Brown to ask for public help to find more clues.

"It's been hard," said Delores Brown, his aunt. "If a person has never been through this they don't know. I mean, this is like when you see this on TV happening with other families, but now it is in our family and now we understand how they felt."

Brown was last seen wearing a red and white jacket and red pants. A private donation has been made, and a reward of 6-thousand dollars is being offered to anyone who has information leading to the whereabouts of Darius Brown. Anyone with information can call Titus County Sheriff's office.
