Argyle police find missing girl
Feb. 18, 2009, 2:57AM
ARGYLE, Texas — Argyle police say they have found the body of a 3-year-old girl who was last seen playing in her back yard.
Argyle police Captain Temple Cottle says the body of Alisandra Galvan was found early Wednesday in the septic system of her home. Cottle says investigators suspected the girl was in the septic tank when they noticed the tank's cover was missing.
Cottle said once the tank was pumped out the girl's body was found in the bottom of the tank, along with the tank's cover.
The girl's body was taken away by the Tarrant County medical examiner's office, which will conduct an autopsy.
The girl was reported missing by her family Tuesday evening.
Cottle said the girl's parents had recently moved into the home and hadn't noticed whether the cover to the septic tank was in place or missing. He said an investigation into the incident continues.

Argyle Girl Found Dead In Septic Tank
3-Year-Old's Death Apparently Accidental, Police Say
A 3-year-old Denton girl's death was apparently accidental, officials said after they found the child's body in an open septic tank in her family's backyard.
Capt. Temple Cottle with the Argyle Police Department says he has no reason to suspect foul play, but stressed "it is early in the investigation. We still have a lot of people to talk to, and we still have a lot of interviews to do."
Alysandra Galvan was last seen playing outside with her brothers and other relatives. Her mother said the girl, who they called 'Ali,' did not come inside when called to dinner.
Dozens of volunteers gathered Tuesday and searched the area. According to reports, police spotted the open septic tank and said the only thing they could do was "eliminate the obvious possibilities."
The septic tank did have a lid, but it was not secure when the police looked.
Cottle said once the tank was pumped out the girl's body was found in the bottom of the tank, along with the tank's cover.
The family has not spoken to the media or provided a photo of the girl.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner is performing an autopsy to determine to exact cause of death.

ARGYLE — The death of a 3-year-old girl found in her family’s backyard septic tank early Wednesday was ruled an accident, according to a Tarrant County medical examiner’s autopsy report.
The autopsy found that Alisandra Galvan drowned.
Alisandra may have been standing on the cover when it collapsed, dropping her into the tank, authorities said.
The girl was reported missing shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday after her mother couldn’t find her, authorities said.
"The mother said her daughter had been playing in the back yard," said Tom Reedy, a spokesman for the Denton County Sheriff’s Department. "The mother had been looking for her for 15 minutes and couldn’t find her."
Argyle police said that Alisandra had been in the back yard playing ball with young relatives.
Within minutes, dozens of volunteers arrived and began searching for the girl, police said.
"We suspected the septic tank early on, but it took us a while to get someone out there to pump it out," Argyle police Capt. Temple Cottle said.
Once that was done, firefighters lowered a camera into the tank and spotted the body, Cottle said.
The medical examiner’s office listed the time of death as 12:39 a.m., the time firefighters found the body.
Authorities also found the cover inside the tank.
"It didn’t look damaged or anything like that," Cottle said.
