Coast Guard searching for overdue sailboat with 3 people aboard
MIAMI - Coast Guard crews are searching for three people aboard a 47-foot sailing vessel Monday, after failing to check in to their final destination of Bimini, Bahamas, Sunday.
Search and rescue coordinators at the Seventh District Command Center in Miami received a call from a family member stating the vessel, Hide Away, failed to check in as scheduled Sunday. Charles and Trudy Millburg of Niceville, Fla., and Martha Hinds of Sanibel Island, Fla., reportedly departed Key Largo, Fla., Saturday and were to arrive in Bimini no later than noon Sunday.
Coast Guard Air Station Miami aircrews aboard a HU-25 Falcon jet and a HH-65 Dolphin helicopter are searching for the Hide Away.
If anyone has information that can help locate the vessel and its passengers, please contact the District Seven Command Center at 305-415-6800.

It would be good to hear that they just stopped off somewhere unplanned.

A sailboat that left Key Largo for the Bahamas on Saturday triggered a Sunday search by the U.S. Coast Guard after it failed to report its safe arrival.

The three people aboard the 47-foot Hide Away later were found to be in no danger.

"They basically went to another island first and didn't check in," said Coast Guard Petty Officer James Harless.

"This is a perfect example of why boaters need to let someone know if there are changes to their float plan, so they aren't reported as missing."
The Hide Away, with Charles and Trudy Millburg of Niceville and Martha Hinds of Sanibel Island aboard, was expected to reach Bimini by noon Sunday.

When they did not check in as expected, the Coast Guard sent out a jet and helicopter to search the area.

The boat reportedly had anchored overnight off one island, then continued on to Grand Bahama Island, Harless said.
