GREENSBORO - The N.C. Center for Missing Persons has issued a Silver Alert after a Mount Airy man who went missing Wednesday.

Authorities are looking for Edgar Eugene Tate, 51, who is believed to be suffering from dementia or some other cognitive impairment.

Tate left a residence at 334 Austin Drive and was last seen driving north on Rockford Road in Mount Airy.

Tate is a white man, 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs 198 pounds.

He has short brown hair, blue eyes and was last seen wearing tan pants and a blue button up shirt.

He was last seen driving a tan 1984 Ford van with N.C. tags YTA-1261.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to call J.W. Cox at the Mount Airy Police Department at 336-786-3535 or local authorities.

Update: Silver Alert canceled for missing Mount Airy man

The N.C. Center for Missing Persons has canceled a Silver Alert for a Mount Airy man.

The center issued the alert for Edgar Eugene Tate, 51, at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday. About five hours later, the center withdrew the alert after he was found.

Neither the center nor the Mount Airy police department provided more details on Tate's whereabouts after he was reported missing.
