Teen missing, fears grow over possible rise in kidnappings

JUAREZ -- Missing person investigators with the Juarez Municipal Police are searching for 16-year-old Tania Araceli Álvarez Hernández.
The teenager was last seen February 16, 2009 in the colonia Colinas del Norte. Her disappearance has sparked fears a new wave of women kidnappings may be on the horizon.
Last month, the disappearance of another teenage girl sparked outrage and extensive media coverage in Juarez.
The 17-year-old Maria Guadalupe Pérez Montes was reported missing January 31st in the colonia Guadalajara Izquierda, officials said. Investigators said she was headed to the Downtown area.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of both girls is urged to call authorities at (656) 629-3300, extensions 56454 and 56455 in Juárez. In Chihuahua, call (614) 429-3300, extensions 14363 and 14346.
