WINTER HAVEN — The Polk County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's help in finding a missing elderly Winter Haven man.

Sheriff's Office detectives say 83-year-old Harry W. Ames, who lives on Sioux Drive, phoned a friend at approximately 9 a.m. Friday to say he was going to the Eagle Ridge Mall to purchase a watch battery.
Ames has not been seen or heard from since, the Sheriff's Office reported around 11 p.m. Friday.
A family member reported Ames missing at approximately 6:04 p.m. Friday, telling detectives he has recently begun to display signs of confusion and is in the early stages of dementia.

Ames is believed to have left his house in his silver-gray, 2004 Saturn station wagon. He is approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. He wears glasses.
A Silver Alert has been issued by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Anyone with information on this case is urged to call the Sheriff's Office at 863-534-6200.

Winter Haven, Florida -- A Silver Alert has been issued for an 83-year-old man who is missing and considered endangered.
Harry W. Ames phoned a friend Friday morning to say he was going to Eagle Ridge Mall to buy a watch battery. He has not been heard from since, the sheriff's office said Friday night.
A family member said he recently began to display signs of confusion and is in the early stages of dementia.
He is described as being 5'7" tall, weighing 150 lbs., and wearing glasses. He's believed to be driving a silver-grey, 2004 Saturn station wagon.
Anyone who sees him is asked to call the Polk County Sheriff's Office at (863) 534-6200.

WINTER HAVEN, FL -- The Polk County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in locating a man that was last seen Friday morning.

Deputies say 83-year-old Harry W. Ames of Sioux Drive in Winter Haven, called a friend around 9:00 Friday morning to say that he was going to the Eagle Ridge Mall to buy a watch battery. Ames has not been seen since.

A family member reported him missing at around 6:00 Friday evening, telling authorities that Ames has recently been showing signs of confusion and is in the early stages of dementia.

Mr. Ames could be driving a silver or gray 2004 Saturn station wagon. Mr. Ames is about 5'7" tall and weighs about 150 pounds.

A Silver Alert has been issued by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement . Anyone with information is asked to call the Polk County Sheriff's Office at (863) 534-6200.

An 83-year-old Winter Haven man thought to be missing and endangered has been found safe, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said today.

Detectives are on their way to speak to Harry W. Ames, who told a friend Friday he was going to Eagle Ridge Mall to buy a watch battery and hadn't been heard from since. A relative reported Ames missing on Friday night, saying had begun showing signs of confusion and is in the early stages of dementia.

A sheriff's spokeswoman said she had no immediate details on how Ames had been found but would provide an update later today.
