There is an old hogpen out in the woods and the deer gather there. That is also in their path to run from place to place. It drives the dogs crazy.. lol

Funny story- I was working in the yard (not knowing about the deer den? at this time). I heard something and thought hmmmm, someone is out there. So I got paranoid as I kept hearing noises. I came in the house and got my pistol and kept on working. My dogs were barking like mad- they are on a wireless fence so they can't leave the yard. I all of the sudden really heard noises in the woods, leaves, running- etc- it was at that time when I learned about the deer. However, I was running too--- inside :67302:

Is KTEN still the TV station in Ada? I lived there when it first went on the air.
I was working for the radio station KADA and going to college. IIRC there was a connection between the folks that owned KADA and the ones that owned KTEN.

I agree. I'm inspired. Maybe with Faith and OC and Bayou Lass working on me I'll actually accomplish something with my yard this year. I've only lived here 20 years.... I guess it's time. :71526:

I am unsure if it is in Ada. I know they have a KTEN and KXII in Ardmore,OK and in Sherman, TX. I would think that there is one in Ada.

I haven't been able to get much of anything to grow in the ground except the gardenia plant out back. If I'd known it was going to do that well I'd have placed it in a better spot. :104511:
Also, I have two roses in the front flower bed (and I use the term loosely, believe me) that have managed to survive... I can't remember exactly when I planted them, but my MIL was with me when I bought them and she died in 1992. The had gotten really "stalky" so this year I pruned them (first time). Watch now, they won't come back at all this spring. :frustratedf:
I did have a really nice herb garden for a few years, I'll have to post a picture of it. I drilled holes in the bottom of a flat bottom skiff no one had used in years, filled it with dirt and made a planter out of it. :s1gyahoo: I think that may be why my BIL won't let me in the part of his yard where he has his boat stored. :girl_haha:
I'm gearing up to do the herb garden again this year, also, I found out last year that I can do pretty well with plants in containers. Maybe this will be the year.....

Was reading an article yesterday in WIRED about the browser Google is working feverishly toward. Chrome is the name of it. They are planning going head to head with Microsoft. Some may recall Netscape Navigator. Microsoft drove them out of businesss. Google thinks they are big enough now to come face to face with the giant. All this is just my paraphrasing and only my opinion.

Chrome is available already, although it's a beta, not a final version. And it's only available for Windows computers (darn - I use a Mac).

I loved Netscape Navigator.... it morphed into Mozilla Firefox which I use now. I hate Internet Explorer.... I pretty much shun any site I come across that is so tailored to IE that no other browser will function there. :45024:

Amy I love it! We are country here too and have a lot of deer. We have an apple tree right outside the kitchen and I watch the deer come and eat them every day. This past summer we had a mama and her two babies who thought they lived here.

Ahhh herb gardens, are so special and herbs are so easy to grow. When we moved here years ago I had a hugh herb garden and also a darling small one. Then along came the daylilies and eventually my herb gardens were taken over by the daylilies, cause we would get more and more daylilies and had to find room for them, so outttt went the herbs.
Last year tho I decided enough was enough and I started another herb garden out behind the stable, which was an area DH was not too fond of the dirt, but heck I thought it was good enough for the herbs. So I scouted around and found remnants of some of the herbs which were still hiding among the daylilies and began transplanting, bought some new ones too and now it is on its way! I am a happy herb girl again! :yes2:
PatC, I love your idea of the skiff. Maybe I could find an old conestoga wagon huh?

I was introduced to computers at work... first they brought us Wang word processors (at a time when all the more knowledgeable people were saying it was foolish and we should have gone directly to PCs) then, about the time I got all my documents saved that way they decided to bring in computers.
One day they came in, removed the Wang and sat a Macintosh SE on my desk and said, "Here, learn to use this." and walked out. Thank goodness they furnished a Mac instead of a PC because it was so easy to use there was almost no learning curve. My SE was later upgraded and I was so adamant about keeping a Mac, that even by the time I retired, 2001, I STILL had a Mac desktop unit, by that time the one I had would also run PC software.
I'd really like to have a Mac at home, but can't justify the added expense. :madranting94dp:

Have any of you ever tried to start a camellia from a cutting? I may have to get rid of my huge, beautiful camellia if I decide to expand the deck to that area. It just blooms beautifully every year, but is too large to move. I guess I need to go to a camellia site and research what to do.

I just was reading articles on plants and flowers that bee's avoid and this was one. We have tons of honey bee's here, and red wasp, and myself and the kids are allergic, so I need something that doesn't attract bee's. And, where can I purchase feverfew?

Good afternoon everyone. All this gardening talk, I am so not a gardener. I have some decent plantings in the yard and 3 plants in the house but that is about it. I have been known to forget to water my plants for a long time lol. 2 of the plants I have have been very forgiving and I have had them for around 18 years. One is a ficus and the other I was told is a coffee plant or coffee tree or something but I am not sure.

Amy, I use to have feverfew. I would use it in herb wreaths. We ripped a lot of the herbs out many years back, but if I remember right some still comes up here and there. I never really realize what it is until it blooms.
Did you find a lot of herbs which the bees do not like? Whatever you do, do not not not not ever buy 'lemon balm'. It is horrible because it spreads everywhere forever and ever.

Hi Sarah! That is how I kill houseplants, they die of thirst! Not nice I know, but I forget and then we have electric heat, so that doesn't help. It is hard to kill a cactus, but I did and had to throw two away yesterday. I got tired of nursing them back to health. They are probably happier now in Plant Heaven! :innocent0002:

Yep...I am gonna order some and try them... I have real bad hedaches all the time (migraines) so it isn't gonna hurt to try these out. They are very interesting, they say you can also used these to rid insect in your home, if you dry them out. Still reading info on these...there is alot.
You would come out cheaper going to Lowes to buy flowers ---- sometimes walmart- depends on the flower
It is good to give to someone you do not like! :67302::67302:
:0t31:
I throw some marigold seeds in my garden because they are supposed to repel insects....maybe I should try some feverfew. I do not like to spray chemicals on my food plants...so this sounds like another good organic gardening hint.
I always use marigold, they are a very pretty flower.

So you don't water them everday? That must be the trick...lol. Oops! I will remember "Thirsty Thursday".
Thanks for the tid bit of going to Lowe's, I always forget about that place.
Amy, nothing will grow if your heart isn't in it. :0t31: It took me years of losing $$'s of not knowing how and I finally got it right.
Well, I will take this advice... :67302: I will treat them as my children from now on. Maybe I could see some improvement instead of them all going to plant heaven.

You really have to wanna know how-- to learn- hands in the dirt everyday- pinching off dead flowers, etc etc... dare anyone to go near your flower garden. I even hide the lawnmower key from my husband.
Some people can grow a petunia in the sun... NOT ME!!
Another tip- Lowes will guarantee the flower/plant you buy for a year. Walmart supposedly does but I rarely buy from them. You MUST save your receipts!! This is for perennials now, not an annual. I dunno their policy on annuals.

I spray the house, brick, etc and that helps with the wasp around here. I never have a wasp nest on the house. My problem have been dirt dobbers. Nothing I spray will prevent them from building their nest.

NO KIDS ALLOWED IN MY GARDEN... lol, seriously though, I am gonna make me a flower garden this year, and truly keep it up, I am determined now. I have done alot of research today. I have sucked in so much info, I just hope I can remember it all. However, I do grow a fantastic food garden every year. Gotta have that squash! I have also been learning how to can, thanks to my granny. I even made some plum jelly last year, all from scratch, it was awesome.

Dirt dobbers never really have bothered me, they are more scared of us than we are them.
Honey bee's are the other one's we have problems with here. I guess they stay around here because of all the sap on the tree's but them suckers hurt when they sting. They just come in swarms and if one hits ya, it will sting, and leave their stingers in ya. I always keep bleach on hand. That seems to take the stinging pain away. But I am very allergic to red wasp.

You should get you a Lantana plant, it will come back and get bigger every year. They are beautiful.
I have a veggie garden also. My problems with that are the deer. Everytime a tomato starts to turn red they take a bite out of it.

I use a spray that people use on cotton farms for bugs. I get it from my BIL.
I use bleach for stings too. A honey bee has a killer sting, ouch. One got me last year when I was cutting the grass. We also had a bed of them in he ground. I poured gas on them and ran lol :a1chic:
Do we have a garden thread?

I used to work in an office with some ladies who knew EVERYTHING and tried to top each other's stories. They were discussing their superior gardening skills one day and how they "talk" to their plants...and how well their plants respond to it. My only contribution to the conversation was that I talked to mine too...and that I say "grow you little sucker or I will snatch every leaf you have off". There is something about a little group of ladies with their eyes big and their jaws dropped that tickles me.

Lantana is one of the plants I had when I was in my garden phase. Also bought a Red-tipped Photenia for a dollar at the end of the season. Planted it at a corner spot and when I moved from that home, it was a huge bush. Gorgeous.

Texanne, I bet we're all familiar with that sort of thing. LOL There is always one in any group who tries to top whatever is said with either situations showing they have more money or more this or more that. I especially notice those who say, "That's nothing, listen to this...! " Then they tell something not at all better than what had been said before. I do think people do this sort of thing without giving thought to the rudeness of it. :kissyface4:

All this gardening talk is making me so anxious for spring to come! Not exactly the clean-up part tho, but everything beyond.
I am reading a book and there was the mention William Wadsworth's poem about daffodils. :kissyface4: Ummm makes me really want the little darlins to pop up their little heads. I think someone the other day mentioned they had daffodils sprouting. Not where I live tho, so far all we have, some remnants of snow. It will all be gone by tomorrow. I have to remember, it is still February. :thud2:
"Daffodils" (1804)
I WANDER'D lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the Milky Way,
They stretch'd in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed -- and gazed -- but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
By William Wordsworth (1770-1850).

You may have to buy a new plant if you can't dig that one up. A cutting will take years to mature. You could try it tho b/c now is the time to do it.
I think I 'd try cutting it way back then digging out the root ball and transferring. Google how to transfer a mature plant and try it. As I've said, I'm no one to advise on plants, but IIRC, if you dig up a root ball larger than the above ground part of the plant you're moving you have a good chance of getting it to "take".

I'm sorry to hear that Billie. How very hurt you must have been by someone to have gone to the extreme of destroying such beauty. I'm so sorry you were so hurt, I'm sure you didn't deserve that treatment.
As for cutting above the 5-leaf stem.... that's one of the very few things I remember my mother telling me. Honestly, I don't remember what "rules" I followed when I cut back my roses, but I had researched pruning online and followed the guidance I found there. These two roses had been allowed to go wild so long they had no attractive "shape" at all, so I cut back beyond any growth above the first stem out of the ground like Faith's first picture. but..... They were labeled "Mississippi Blaze". Years later I tried to find out more about them but can't find anything at all. It's like they never existed.

Morning everyone! The flowers are beautiful. I think we are all sick of winter and read for Spring. I know I am, even though I am in a mild climate where flowers bloom the year round.
OK, guys.... here's a challenge for you...
This is fun. The site instructions are in Japanese, so read below!
1. Touch 'start'
2. Wait for 3, 2, 1.
3. Memorize the number's position on the screen, and then click the circles in order from the smallest number to the biggest number.
4. At the end of game, the computer will tell you the age of your brain.
5. Forward the message and type your calculated age in the subject line.
Good luck!

Yep, not supposed to ship 'til Spring though. I really don't mind because last year I planted too early and we had a late cold front come through and I lost about 1/2 of what I planted. I am planning on getting the weeding done and mulching then planting. I know what you mean about not being able to play in the yard and gardens......wish I had a four day work week!

I do that too, when I haven't watered them to begin with. Then the leaves turn yellow and fall off. :blondblush113268230

I should have done a camo dress, they are gorgeous...
He is gonna bring his girlfriend over to look at them...
I, myself, LOVE the white one with the branches, that is the coolest looking dress. And, my thoughts would be to have bridesmaids wear brown dresses.
I think she is gonna love these dresses... she isn't into the frilly stuff or fancy, so I think these are gonna be just what she is looking for.

hmm... Thirsty Thursday, huh? I tend to kill houseplants, too. The only one I have now is a cactus that has (miraculously) survived for about 13 years. The only reason it's still alive is because it's in the kitchen and gets a decent amount of moisture from the air. I water it every couple of months.

I don't have any houseplants because Doof eats them. I don't care what it is, he will eat it and or rip it out of the dirt. I've found many crime scenes here over the years. silly kitty always leaves one of his toys right in the middle of it too.
I do no gardening either. It's not that I hate flowers, but I will not have bee invitations up. No spank you. There isn't a hint of a bloom in my yard. :lex_10:

I need a really dressy pant suit and cannot find one (the wedding dress pic reminded me). I tripped recently and still have this big mark from my ankle to my knee that even panyhose does not disguise. I am going to a wedding in a couple of weeks and thought I would just go out and find something really pretty, but in a pantsuit instead of a dress. All my pantsuits are strictly daytime, and this is a dressy evening affair. Anyone know who has dressy pants outfits?....you would think they would be everywhere. I may need to sew something...but I hate to sew for myself. All I wanted was a really pretty outfit, and I cannot find it..everything in pants is so ugly right now. I am rubbing cream on the bruised area every night to get it to heal quicker.

I found a really nice dressy pants suit for KC's wedding at the Dress Barn, Naturally, the only picture I can find quickly only shows the very tippy top, but it was a lovely sheer over-blouse with sparklies over a silk shell top, and I think the pants were silk too, IIRC.

A matter of hours. We came home from camping and I was scared to death I'd killed KC's Lily. A little water and a couple of hours later it was picking it's little arms up.
Faith...where did ya get those photo's, do you know these folks?

*giggle* My second-cousin had a wedding like that this summer. It was in a park, reception at the VFW, dinner on foam plates. Her 3 year old daughter was the flower girl (at least the daddy was the groom). The groom and groomsmen all had walking sticks with pewter skulls as handles.

I think we are acting like this cause we are so nervous and upset about this dumpter in the news. :1187603408.CR.Mothe
My theory about little darlin Trenton was a dumpster, it wasn't long after it had been reported about a body in a dumpster on the radio when MD killed herself.
I pray this isn't so for Haleigh God love her!

Yeah, he is one of those one's you don't want living near ya (DRUGS) so he started a bunch of little piles of leaves on fire, and the wind is blowing like crazy, and we are under a burn ban, so mom called it in...lol...and he went to jail (WANTED FUGITIVE) LOL! Absolutely! DH is upstairs in bed with a horrible headache from his surgery and I am trying to leave him alone. So I am on the laptop in the kitchen watching NG. I usually avoid her. I like her but she gets so hyper these days since she has her own show. She makes me nervous.

Have lived 50 miles from Tulsa for 15 years and have been there quite a few times, but, not for about 4 years; however, am driving there tomorrow to see the hand specialist. Thought about asking someone to go with me, but, decided to go alone so wouldn't have to clean off passenger side of car. :67302:
During the 30 years lived in Oklahoma City, I was deeply involved in the art scene. Belonged to the normal organizations such as the art guild. Also, was a member of alternative groups, although I didn't really fit in with any group. Until finally, joined up with a dozen artists and we opened a gallery, taking turns working. Had done that 5 years when mom broke her hip and eventually, I had to drop out of the gallery.
Anyway, what I've been thinking is, since I very much do not fit in with the local group, maybe I'll become a bit involved with Tulsa. Not sure I'm up to it physically, but, maybe. My art is in 3 museums and if I were to die, my children have their homes furnished in my work and they don't need any of my favorites that are in my home. I fear they would be practically given away at estate sale and I'd rather do something before that time comes.
I need to find a rep and maybe that could happen in Tulsa.

In OKC we would joke about people from OKC being so proud of buying art in Taos or Santa Fe and the artist would be from OKC, but, the people would never have bought it in OKC. Great cachet buying in NM. :67302:
