Search is under way for missing Cottonport man; foul play suspected

The Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office is searching the Bayou Des Glaise area in Cottonport today, Feb. 27, looking for a man who went missing Thursday night.

Foul play is suspected in the incident and a “person of interest” is being interviewed, Sheriff Doug Anderson said.

Frank Jenkins, 75, of Cottonport hasn’t been seen since yesterday and is thought to be somewhere in the Cottonport area near the bayou.

Anderson said they have deputies searching on land with K-9s and dragging the bayou with boats. A State Police helicopter is going to assist in the search as well as boats from the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Deputies began the search Thursday night but were unsuccessful, and they resumed at daybreak today, Feb. 27.

The incident remains under investigation.

Missing man’s body found in Bayou des Glaises near Cottonport; foul play suspected

The body of a 75-year-old Frank Jenkins of Cottonport was recovered about 11:30 a.m. today, Feb. 27, in Bayou des Glaises in the Cottonport area of Avoyelles Parish, authorities reported.

Possible foul play is being investigated in connection with Jenkins’ death, according to Maj. Steve Martel of the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office began searching for Jenkins on Thursday night after he was reported missing. The search resumed at daybreak today. State Police and state Wildlife and Fisheries helped with the search.

Deputies searched on land with K-9s and dragged the bayou from boats. Martel said Jenkins’ body was found in the bayou.

He said the Sheriff’s Office will be interviewing “persons of interest” during its investigation into the death.
