Still no ID that I can find.....

Investigators in Cedar County, Nebraska are working to unravel a mystery as they try to identify a body found inside a burned out car. It was found in a rural area, four miles east of the intersection of Highway 81 and County Road 895 south of Yankton.

The burned out car was found next to a tree Wednesday night by a farmer who lives in the area. He took us back to the spot and there's still a lot of evidence of what transpired. Car parts litter the ground and the farmer who found the car tells us he saw a body inside.

New snowfall covers some of the tell tale signs of what happened on County Road 895 but Emery Schmitt can tell you all about it. Two days ago, Emery was driving on 895 when he saw what he thought was an abandoned car. He says, "It was more than that. I got down here closer and I could see it was all burnt around there and the tree was all burnt. I could see it hit the tree then I got to looking around finally I looked in it and there were bones in it."

Emery went to the farm down the road and called 911. The Cedar County, Nebraska Sheriff's Department responded. No one would go on camera, but we know the department is searching dental records and attempting DNA testing to determine the identity of the body inside the car. They're also reviewing recent missing persons reports to bring some closure to the case of the burned out car on County Road 895.

Cedar County authorities believe the burned out car may have been sitting on county road 895 for two days before it was noticed by Emery Schmitt.

CEDAR COUNTY, Neb. (KTIV) - Nebraska authorities are trying to identify a body found in a burned out car on a gravel road in Cedar County.

Sheriff Larry Koranda says the car was found late Wednesday afternoon about three and a half miles east of Highway 81, near Menominee. That's south of Yankton, South Dakota.

He says it appears the car hit a tree and burst into flames, and may have been there up to 48 hours before it was found. Investigators are trying to get a DNA match or use dental records to identify the victim.
