Gosh, wonder if this woman would just up and leave her children behind? Scary reading where she was last seen with an unknown person. Hope that no foul play is involved and that she will come back home.
Prayers for her safe return and prayers for her children/family.

Mother From Waukesha Missing For Two Months
By Kyle Dlabay
Story Created: Mar 9, 2009
Story Updated: Mar 9, 2009
Waukesha Police are asking for help finding a mother who's been missing for two months. Renee Redmer hasn't been seen since January. Investigators haven't said her disappearance is suspicious but her family fears the worst.
"The people she associates with is our concern," said Redmer's twin sister Amber Donath. "These aren't good people. We definitely have a concern."
Donath says she's been addicted to crack cocaine and heroin for ten years but was clean for a month before she went missing. Donath is taking care of one of Redmer's two daughters.
Redmer told her family she was going to a movie with her boyfriend. Her family claims he has abused her in the past.

Waukesha Mother Missing For Two Months
Jay Olstad
WAUKESHA - Fighting back tears Sunday, Judy Svetlik couldn't imagine where her daughter, 28-year-old Renee Redmer could be.
"It's just really hard," said Svetlik. "We started getting worried after that first week."
She says her daughter, who has two daughters of her own, has left before but only for a few days.
"And she walked out the door and we haven't seen her since," she said.
Redmer was last seen leaving her house, which she shares with her mother, back in January. She told her family she was going to a movie.
"There are definitely drugs involved but it could be anything," said Renee's fraternal twin sister, Amber Donath.
Donath says her sister has been addicted to crack cocaine and heroin for ten years. But she believes Redmer was clean for a month before she went missing.
"The people she associates with is our concern. These aren't good people. We definitely have a concern."
They say she was going to a movie with her boyfriend. They didn't physically see him pick her up and don't know if he's involved with her disappearance, but they do claim he abused her in the past.
"I hate to ask this, but do you think she's still alive,” said TODAY'S TMJ4's Jay Olstad.
"I do, but my mom doesn't," said Donath.
Both of them have a bad feeling. Either way, their lives go on without a whole lot of answers.
"There's Ella," Donath said while playing with Redmer's daughter Ella on Sunday afternoon.
She's taking care of Ella who will turn two next month.
All the while, she and her mother are hoping someone; somewhere is with Renee and brings her home.
"I don't want to be one of those people who still don’t know where she is a year later. Two months is hard enough," said Svetlik.
If you have information, call Waukesha Police at 262-524-3831.

With respect to the family - who are in my prayers along with Renee.. I have to state that I'm really confused. Nowhere does it state that Renee has been found anywhere, and how can the courts declare someone deceased without knowing where she is? Legally it cannot be assumed someone is deceased for seven years without the recovery of the person or a civil suit, so this would either lead me to believe the courts have made an incredible misjudgment, or Renee was found but yet no one was informed; at least the many people outside her family who have been concerned and saddened with speculation of her disappearance have not been.
Secondly I have seen through CCAP that a recently closed/dismissed court case/file stating Renee to be deceased - on March 27, 2009 - has since been re-filed on May 6, of this year; the case appears to be open and active again. I would like to know what's going on. If Renee has either reappeared or been found - I think those of us who have been highly concerned with sadness and prayers for both Renee, and her family, deserve to know what is going on.

Hi Jene and welcome. Many times a person is found deceased whether by natural causes, drug overdose or suicide and it is not published in the paper. The person who posted the court info knew her very well and I doubt the court would just dismiss her charges if they didn't have proof she was deceased. Could you post the new court case/file that is open and active? There may have been a mistake and anything is possible.

It doesn't make sense that something was filed after she was declared deceased.
Why file anything is she is deceased?

FdL police assisting in case of missing Waukesha woman
June 24, 2009
The search for a missing Waukesha woman now involves Fond du Lac police.
The Fond du Lac Police Department and the County Sheriff’s Department assisted in a search June 11 and 12 at a Kinker Road property in the town of Friendship, said Sheriff Mick Fink.
The missing woman, Renee Marie Redmer was last seen Jan. 5 when she left with at least one unknown person. She left behind two small children, according to an Associated Press story. The Waukesha woman has a history of drug abuse. Relatives reported they believe she is the victim of foul play.
The search warrant in Fond du Lac has been sealed and police are not releasing details of the case or their involvement, said Police Chief Tony Barthuly.
“Right now, basically, we’re not sure what we have,” Barthuly said. “We are trying to confirm some information. Anything I could say now would jeopardize that investigation.”
He declined to elaborate on how informing the public what the police department is looking for or what type of case it is investigating would jeopardize the investigation.
Today Fond du Lac Police Department Capt. Steve Klein deferred questions to the Waukesha Police Department, saying only in a press release that the department is assisting Waukesha.
Fink said his department supplied the command post vehicle and a detective to help with the search warrant.
Anyone with information on the case is encouraged to call the Waukesha Police Department at (262) 524-3831.

Waukesha — Police have called a Tuesday news conference to announce charges in the death of a 29-year-old woman who had been missing since Jan. 5.
Renee Marie Redmer, a mother of two, had been the subject of an extensive police search since family members reported her missing.
Waukesha police said the news conference Tuesday morning would cover "a full account of her death" as well as criminal charges.
Police officials could not be reached for comment Monday.
Redmer, who police said had a history of drug abuse, was in court and pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor cocaine possession on the day of her disappearance.
Before announcing Tuesday's news conference, police had not previously disclosed that she was dead.

Woman, Missing Since January, Found Dead
By Jay Olstad with Jay Sorgi
WAUKESHA - A mother of two who disappeared several months ago has been found dead.
Renee Redmer, who is from Waukesha, went missing back in January.
Waukesha police will hold a news conference at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning with details of Redmer's death and an announcement of criminal charges.
The 28-year old mother of two went missing in January after she apparently told her family she was going to a movie with her boyfriend.
Back in March, Redmer's mother feared she was already dead.
Her sister, Amber Donath, was more hopeful but definitely worried, in part, because Redmer had a history of drug abuse.
"The people she associates with is our concern," explained Donath in March. "These aren't good people. We definitely have a concern."
Redmer's family claims Renee was clean for about a month before she went missing.

A Waukesha mother missing for seven months was found dead.
The last time Renee Redmer was seen alive by her family was Jan. 5, 2009.
Two months later, Waukesha police released the 28-year-old's picture hoping someone knew where she was.
Redmer had two young children and a history of drug abuse.
She was facing cocaine possession charges when she went missing.
Her family met with police last night to get information about the case before it is released to the public.
They declined to comment, saying this is a very difficult time.

Renee Redmer, 28, was reported missing in January. She had two children.
A 36-year-old man is in custody for Redmer's death, along with two others who helped conceal the crime, police said Tuesday

Police: Missing Waukesha Woman's Body Found
2 People Expected To Be Charged This Week In Her Death
POSTED: 8:25 am CDT July 14, 2009
UPDATED: 12:03 pm CDT July 14, 2009
WAUKESHA, Wis. -- The remains of a missing Waukesha mother have been found in a location in Fond du Lac.
The last time Renee Redmer, 28, was seen alive by her family was Jan. 5, 2009. She was reported missing eight days later.
Redmer had two young children and a history of drug abuse. She was facing cocaine possession charges when she went missing.
In June, the investigation led to a task force being assembled and two search warrants were served in the Fond Du Lac area. Two arrests were made on July 10 and 11.
Police said they believe she was killed by a 36-year-old man whom she knew and that two other people helped him destroy her body and discard the remains in Fond du Lac.
Her body was burned into small pieces, and a forensic anthropologist was called to help identify the body, police said. DNA testing is ongoing.
Waukesha police said they expect the two people to be charged this week.
Her family met with police Monday night to get information about the case before it was released to the public on Tuesday morning.
They declined to comment, saying this is a very difficult time.

Three Accused of Role in FDL Murder, Burning and Disposing of Remains
Updated: July 14, 2009 02:25 PM
The Fond du Lac County district attorney says three people had a role in the murder of a Waukesha woman and disposing of her remains.
The district attorney's office alleges a man strangled his girlfriend, Renee Redmer, last January.
Prosecutors further claim the man's mother, Nancy Pinno, then helped transport the body in a cooler from Pinno's apartment in Fond du Lac to Donald Worth's property in Fond du Lac County, where Worth assisted Pinno in burning Redmer's remains.
Then they disposed of the remains by dumping it through holes drilled in the ice in Lake Winnebago.
Authorities began investigating when Redmer's mother reported her missing, and witnesses directed Waukesha police to look in Fond du Lac County.
Human bone fragments were found in a burn barrel on Worth's property.
Pinno and Worth are jailed on charges of being party to mutilating a corpse, harboring or aiding a felon, and obstructing an officer. Pinno's bail was set at $250,000 cash, Worth's at $150,000 cash.
Pinno's son is expected to be charged within two days

Police: Missing Waukesha mother was killed in Fond du Lac
By Russell Plummer • The Reporter • July 14, 2009
Read Fond du Lac woman and town of Friendship man have been charged in connection with the alleged murder of a Waukesha woman.
Donald R. Worth, 48, of W6379 Kinker Road, and Nancy J. Pinno, 53, of 112 N. Berger Parkway, Apt. J-14, were charged Tuesday morning with party to the crime of mutilating a corpse, harboring or aiding a felon and obstructing an officer.
Brandon J. Mueller, 36, will soon be charged with the murder of Renee M. Redmer, 28, of Waukesha, said Fond du Lac County District Attorney Dan Kaminsky.
Pinno is Mueller’s mother, Kaminsky said.
On Jan. 13, the Waukesha Police Department received a report from Redmer’s mother, Judy Svetlik, that her daughter — a mother of 2 — had been missing since Jan. 5, according to the criminal complaint. Svetlik last saw Redmer leave with Mueller, the complaint states.
According to allegations in the complaint:
Mueller allegedly told a friend identified as Terry Wasserman that he strangled Redmer inside his mother’s Courtyard Apartments residence on Berger Parkway. He said he placed Redmer’s body in a cooler and placed the cooler in a garage at the apartment complex. Mueller then cleaned up the blood with bleach.
Wasserman told his girlfriend about the murder and she told a few others. Mueller than confronted Wasserman and said he had to get rid of the body.
Mueller and Pinno are accused of taking Redmer’s body to Worth’s home on Kinker Road where they allegedly burned the body in a 55-gallon drum for about 12 to 14 hours. Worth and Mueller took the ashes to Lake Winnebago where Worth used an auger to cut a hole in the ice to dump the ashes.
Wasserman showed police the location of Worth’s home. The Fond du Lac Police Department executed a search warrant in early June and located fragments of human bones inside the burn barrel. Forensic anthropologist Dr. Leslie Eisenberg confirmed the bones belonged to a petite female.
Worth confessed his involvement to a Fond du Lac Police Department detective on July 10, the complaint states. He told police that Pinno — who he had known for about four or five years — and Mueller arrived at his home in January with the body. Worth said he went inside his home and came out to find the body burning in the barrel, the complaint states.
Worth told police they put the cooler in a Dumpster at a gas station along Highway 45.
Pinno denied involvement but told detectives she thought something had happened in her apartment and that a cooler disappeared from her garage.
Kaminsky requested and Fond du Lac County Circuit Court Judge Peter Grimm ordered $150,000 bail for Worth and $250,000 cash bail for Pinno.

Charges for Murder Involvement
Posted: July 14, 2009 02:23 PM
On July 14, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., both Nancy Pinno and Donald Worth appeared in intake court before Judge Peter Grimm in Fond du Lac County.
Both were charged as party to the crime of mutilating a corpse in violation of section 940.11(1) a class F felony, harboring or aiding a felon in violation of section 946.47(1)(b) a class I felony, and Obstructing an Officer in violation of section 946.41(1), a class A Misdemeanor. Cash bail was set at $150,000 for Worth and $250,000 for Pinno.
The criminal complaints against Pinno and Worth allege that in January of this year, Brandon J. Mueller, who is expected to be charged within the next two days, strangled his then girlfriend, Renee Redmer.
According to witnesses described in the criminal complaints, Mueller's mother, Nancy Pinno, helped him transport the body in a cooler from her apartment in the City of Fond du Lac to the property of Donald Worth's in the County of Fond du Lac.
Worth then allowed and assisted Mueller in burning the body and disposing of the remains through holes drilled in the ice on Lake Winnebago.
Human female bone fragments were found by police in the burn barrel recovered at Worth's property.
Further details of the witness statements can be found in the criminal complaints.
The investigation originated in the City of Waukesha when the mother of the victim reported her daughter missing.
Waukesha police investigators were led to Fond du Lac by information from witnesses.
At that point a joint investigative task force continued the investigation.
Agencies involved include the Waukesha Police Department, Fond du Lac Police Department, Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Department, Wauwatosa Police Department, Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigations and State Fire Marshal, the Wisconsin State Crime Lab, and the Fond du Lac County District Attorney's Office.
Detectives Mike Mueller and Jeff Harbridge were assigned the case in the City of Fond du Lac and have hundreds of hours into the investigation, which is continuing.

Three Accused of Role in FDL Murder, Burning and Disposing of Remains
Updated: July 14, 2009 04:16 PM
Fond du Lac authorities say they uncovered a grisly murder. Investigators say this winter, a 28-year-old mother of two was strangled, stored in a cooler, then mutilated.
The Fond du Lac County district attorney says three people had a role in the murder of Renee Redmer of Waukesha and disposing of her remains.
Tuesday morning, 53-year-old Nancy Pinno and 48-year-old Donald Worth were formally charged with being party to the crime, and Pinno's son, Brandon Mueller, is expected to be charged Wednesday with first-degree intentional homicide.
While police say Mueller is responsible for killing Redmer, strangling her in a Fond du Lac apartment building, investigators say his own mother helped him to try to conceal the crime.
According to the criminal complaint, the murder happened in Pinno's apartment in January.
Investigators say Redmer's body was stored in a cooler in Pinno's garage.
"The cooler was stored at her property in her garage for several weeks. Later she drove her son to the other location, transporting the cooler, and it's at that location that the body was disposed of," District Attorney Dan Kaminski said.
That location, police say, was Worth's property on Kinker Road in Fond du Lac County.
Investigators say Redmer's body was burned in a barrel then her remains were dumped in Lake Winnebago through holes drilled in the ice. They say human bone fragments were found in a burn barrel on Worth's property.
Authorities began investigating when Redmer's mother reported her missing, and witnesses directed Waukesha police to look in Fond du Lac County.
As far as a motive for the killing, the prosecutor says right now he won't say. He'll just say the victim and the accused killer were in a relationship together.
The criminal complaint says the two were known constantly to fight and that sometimes it would become physical.
Mueller is expected in court Wednesday morning.
The district attorney's office alleges a man strangled his girlfriend, Renee Redmer, last January.
Pinno and Worth are jailed on charges of being party to mutilating a corpse, harboring or aiding a felon, and obstructing an officer. Pinno's bail was set at $250,000 cash, Worth's at $150,000 cash.

Wow, another case to prove that a mother is willing to do anything to protect their children. Mothers should have morals higher up on their list though, IMO.

Wis. man charged with strangling girlfriend
Associated Press
12:36 PM CDT, July 15, 2009
FOND DU LAC, Wis. - A Brookfield man accused killing his girlfriend and enlisting his mother's help to dispose of her body has been charged with two felonies.
Thirty-six-year-old Brandon Mueller was charged Wednesday with first-degree intentional homicide and mutilating a corpse. His cash bond was set at $1 million.
Mueller's mother and another man were charged Tuesday with being accessories to the crime. Prosecutors charged 53-year-old Nancy Pinno and 48-year-old Donald Worth with felony counts of assisting a felon and helping mutilate a corpse.
Prosecutors say Mueller strangled 28-year-old Renee Redmer in January. They say his mother drove him to Worth's property where Mueller burned the body.
Online court records didn't list attorneys Wednesday for any of the three.

Million dollar bond for FDL murder suspect

Bond has been set at $1 million cash for a 36-year-old Fond du Lac man suspected of murdering his girlfriend, burning and disposing her body. Brandon Mueller is charged with 1st Degree Intentional Homicide and Mutilating a Corpse.
Mueller allegedly strangled 28-year-old Renee Redmer in the bedroom of his mother's apartment. Redmer's mother reported her disappearance to Waukesha Police in January. Mueller allegedly got help from his mother Nancy Pinno to move a cooler with Redmer's body in it to Donnie Worth's Kinker Road property.
The body was burned and an ice auger was used to drill holes in the ice in Lake Winnebago and the ashes were dumped in it. Mueller, Pinno, and worth will all have preliminary hearings on Friday, July 24th.

:madranting94dp: I'm all for protecting our children but..........this is alittle bit extreme imo. What kind of a mother would help her child dispose of a body, no wonder he turned out the way he did. Unless he threatened her but she could have told someone after and went into protective custody.
Totally unbelievable!

Bail reduced for Fond du Lac woman accused of helping get rid of body
July 24, 2009
A Fond du Lac woman remains in custody for allegedly helping her son burn the body of a Waukesha woman.
Fond du Lac County Circuit Court Judge Peter Grimm on Friday reduced bail for Nancy J. Pinno, 53, of 112 N. Berger Parkway, Apt. J-14, to $150,000.
Grimm made the $100,000 reduction after defense attorney Catherine Block argued that even an amended criminal complaint was insufficient in stating Pinno knew she was helping Brandon J. Mueller, 36, of Brookfield, take the body of Renee M. Redmer, 28, to the town of Friendship to be burned.
Mueller is accused of strangling Renee M. Redmer, 28, in January inside Pinno’s Fond du Lac apartment, putting the body in a cooler an estimated 4 feet by 2 feet by 2 feet and placing the cooler in a garage at the Courtyard Apartments complex on Berger Parkway, according to the criminal complaint.
The amended complaint delves into an interview Pinno agreed to with officers after her apartment was searched June 11.
Pinno told officers the last time she saw Redmer was Christmas of 2008. The complaint alleges that a week or two after New Year’s Eve, she came home and found Mueller possibly crying. Mueller told her, “Mom, I did something real bad,” according to the complaint.
Pinno told police that Mueller said he choked or strangled Redmer and told her that Renee was in the bedroom. He then took a cooler that she said appeared empty into her bedroom and came out with something inside it. Mueller then carried the cooler into Pinno’s garage, the complaint states.
Pinno told police that Mueller said he was involved in a police chase more than a month later and “there was a lot of questions or stuff going on in Milwaukee,” according to the complaint.
Pinno and Mueller then allegedly used Pinno’s car to drive the cooler to the home of 48-year-old Donald R. Worth, W6379 Kinker Road.
The complaint alleges that Pinno asked Worth if Mueller could “burn something.”
The complaint states, “Donnie said, ‘Sure, he can burn anything out here,’ and Pinno said, ‘You better check this out before you answer.’”
Pinno told police she stayed inside Worth’s home while Worth and Mueller were outside. She said her son would come in to warm up and described his smell as: “It was a smell you can’t forget but you can’t describe.”
The complaint ends by stating that Pinno told a co-worker she thought her son had killed somebody in her bedroom.
Block said Pinno was a bartender at the Eagles Club, 515 N. Park Ave.
A tearful Pinno appeared in court Friday morning as Block argued that Wisconsin law prohibits a person from being charged with party to the crime of mutilating a corpse and harboring or aiding a felon if the charges are pertaining to the same body.
District Attorney Dan Kaminsky said the charges stem from knowingly taking the body to Worth’s home and aiding Worth by lying to police until she was interviewed in June.
Grimm said the charging issue would be addressed at or before a preliminary hearing set for Aug. 13 for Pinno, Worth and Mueller.
Block argued that Pinno could be released from jail on a signature bond, noting a lack of significant criminal history, strong support from family in the community and that even though Pinno is the biological mother of Mueller, she is not strongly tied to the man facing a potential sentence of life in prison.
“Alleging (Pinno) was covering up for her son I think is a misstatement of reality,” Block said. “She’s had limited contact with him. She does admit Brandon Mueller is her son by blood.”
Mueller is in custody on $1 million bail. Worth is being held on $151,000 bail.

Seems to me, mother was a willing participant, after the fact...she knowingly and willingly went along with moving Renee's body but waited inside the home while her son burnt Renee's body..:g:
I will never understand how a mother would put herself in the position of being arrested for a crime a child of theirs commit..Why didn't she turn him in when he told her he did something "bad"...ya think???
Whatever her sentence may be, it will be deserved...

FOND DU LAC - A four-hour hearing determined three suspects will be tried for the January murder of 28-year-old Renee Redmer.
Police say Brandon Mueller strangled Redmer and then burned and disposed of her body in Lake Winnebago. Court documents say Mueller strangled Redmer, who was his girlfriend at the time.
Last month, Mueller was charged with murder and mutilating a corpse. His mother Nancy Pinno, and her boyfriend, Donald Worth, were charged with mutilating a corpse. Police say Pinno and Worth helped Mueller burn the body and put the ashes in Lake Winnebago. Pinno is also charged with helpeing cover up the murder.
In court, attorneys for both Mueller, Worth and Pinno asked the court to dismiss various charges against them, saying the state lacked sufficient grounds for the charges. The judge denied those requests.
Several witnesses also appeared in court. The first witness was Judy Svetlik, Redmer's mother, who told the court about realizing her daughter was missing in January.
The next witness was Terry Wasserman, a friend of Mueller. Wasserman told the court that after Redmer disappeared, Mueller began telling him about how he killed his girlfriend and disposed of her body.
"He said he had finally done it," said Wasserman. "He had finally killed her."
"Nothing in the complaint talks about facts and circumstances," said William Retert, Mueller's defense attorney.
The three defendants were among the prosecution witnesses. All of them refused to answer questions.
The suspects have been assigned separate judges. Dates for future court appearances have not been set.

3 to stand trial in Waukesha woman's disappearance
BY RUSSELL PLUMMER • The Reporter • August 13, 2009
State Crime Lab tests on bloodstains found on a pillow inside a Fond du Lac apartment show that the blood is that of a missing Waukesha woman.
That was some of the key evidence presented Thursday by Fond du Lac County District Attorney Dan Kaminsky during a preliminary hearing for three defendants charged in connection with either the death of Renee Redmer, 28, or the disposal of her body.
The evidence in the Redmer homicide was one new twist presented during a nearly five-hour preliminary hearing for suspects Brandon J. Mueller, 36, of Brookfield; Nancy J. Pinno, 53, of 112 N. Berger Parkway, Apt. J-14; and Donald R. Worth, 48, of W6379 Kinker Road.
Mueller is charged with first-degree intentional homicide and mutilating a corpse. Pinno and Worth are charged with harboring or aiding a felon, obstructing an officer and being party to the crime of mutilating a corpse.
Fond du Lac County Circuit Court Judge Peter Grimm found probable cause that Mueller strangled Redmer in January inside Pinno’s Fond du Lac apartment, put the body in a cooler an estimated 4 feet by 2 feet by 2 feet and placed the cooler in a garage at the Courtyard Apartments complex on Berger Parkway.
Kaminsky also presented a signed statement from Worth that Worth assisted Pinno and Mueller in the 12- to 14-hour burning of Redmer’s body inside a barrel at Worth’s town of Friendship home.
When questioned by Kaminsky why Worth would want to submit a statement outlining his own involvement in the case, Fond du Lac Police Department Detective Mike Mueller testified, “He wanted to bring closure to the family.”
Detective Mueller’s statement brought tears to Redmer’s mother, Judy Svetlik, as she watched the proceedings.
Svetlik opened testimony by stating that Redmer lived with her since April 2008, about the same time Redmer began dating Mueller. Her daughter disappeared on Jan. 6, leaving behind two daughters, ages 2 and 12, said Svetlik.
Terry Wasserman, a friend of Mueller’s who tipped off Waukesha police about Redmer’s death, said Brandon Mueller confessed to his involvement in mid-January.
(2 of 2)
“(Mueller) said he had finally done it. He had finally killed her,” Wasserman said.
Wasserman testified he saw Redmer and Mueller verbally fight but never witnessed anything physical.
Wasserman added that he told his girlfriend and two others about Brandon Mueller’s involvement in Redmer’s death. He testified that Mueller confessed to strangling Redmer inside his mother’s apartment and said blood came out of her nose.
When Brandon Mueller found out Wasserman was telling people about the alleged murder, the two men spoke again, said Wasserman.
“(Mueller) said it was OK. It was his fault,” Wasserman said. “It was his responsibility he had to deal with.”
Wasserman also detailed the process Mueller described of burning the body. He said Mueller stated that he gave Worth a “mudder truck” for his help in burning the body.
Four detectives testified about two search warrants executed in June at Worth’s property and at Pinno’s apartment.
Kaminsky also presented a signed statement from Pinno about her involvement in the case.
Mueller is in custody on $1 million bail, Worth on $151,000 bail and Pinno on $150,000 bail.

Brookfield man to stand trial for FDL murder

(WFRV) Fond du Lac -- A Brookfield man will stand trial for the murder of his girlfriend in his mother’s Fond du Lac apartment.
Brandon Mueller, his mother Nancy Pinno and family friend Donald Worth appeared in Fond du Lac Co. Court for a preliminary hearing Thursday afternoon. Mueller is accused of strangling Renee Redmer last January, placing the body in a cooler in the garage of his mother’s apartment building. Prosecutors allege Pinno drove her son to Worth’s home, where he burned Redmer’s body in a burn barrel with the help of Worth. Pinno and Worth will also stand trial on charges of mutilating a corpse and aiding a felon.
Terry Wasserman testified Brandon Mueller confessed to strangling Redmer last January and cleaning up blood from the crime.
"When the blood had gotten onto the carpet, I believe he used bleach to get it out," Wasserman said.
Wasserman said he and Mueller were friends. He also testified he confided in others about Mueller’s admissions. Once Mueller discovered others knew about the crime, he decided to get rid of the body.
“He told me he had taken it to Donny's house and that he had burned it for 12 to 14 hours in a barrel, and then took the ashes and put them in Lake Winnebago…He said he used gasoline and mentioned he was surprised there wasn't a lot of bones, just ash." Wasserman testified.
Defense attorneys tried to cast doubt on Wasserman’s statements since he seemed to have trouble recalling some of the details of the conversations he had with Mueller. Wasserman said he suffers from short and long term memory loss, caused by extreme drug use.
"Does it cause you to remember falsely, or incorrect information? asked attorney Mary Wolfe. Wasserman replied, “I don't believe so."
Several detectives also took the stand. One testified Nancy Pinno attempted to mislead law enforcement by denying she knew anything about Redmer’s disappearance. Another said Donald Worth broke down in tears once he admitted to allowing Mueller to burn the body on his property. Worth is also charged with getting rid of the cooler that Mueller used to hide Redmer’s body. Detectives also said blood stains were found in two locations in Pinno’s apartment, and that the blood matched Redmer.
Defense attorneys for the three defendants asked the judge to dismiss the charges against their clients, citing lack of evidence. The motions were denied.
Arraignments will be scheduled at a later date. At that time, each defendant will enter a plea.

Domestic violence takes 3 more lives
Posted: Sept. 18, 2009
Waukesha is a community unaccustomed to violent crime.
But in the first eight months this year, three Waukesha women have been violently killed by "boyfriends," police say.
Samantha Peterson, 21. Renee Redmer, 28. Carol Fisher, 55.
The news of late has been full of Walter E. Ellis, the accused Milwaukee serial killer charged in the deaths of seven women over 21 years. You want to talk about a serial killer?
Domestic violence is one of them, for sure. Not just in Waukesha, though this city of 68,000 in the suburban reaches beyond Milwaukee has its share of shameful statistics.
Over the past 10 years, six of the seven intentional homicides recorded in Waukesha were domestic in nature, Police Capt. Mark Stigler said. Not counted, he said, is a Waukesha woman killed elsewhere in the state. The number approaches the 10 other homicides in that time, eight classified as reckless and two as justified.
The Women's Center Inc. in Waukesha reported that 254 women and children sought the safety of the Sister House shelter last year, and 456 adults and children received domestic violence counseling. So far this year, the center has answered 3,519 crisis calls.
The Waukesha numbers are symptomatic of a national disgrace. The National Network to End Domestic Violence Web site says three women are killed in domestic abuse every day.
Samantha Peterson was the latest victim in Waukesha. She was working in a local bank to earn money for college after two years at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha and a start at UW-Whitewater, said her grandfather in West Allis, who didn't want to be identified. He called her a good kid, a buddy to her mom.
She'd had what police described as a long relationship with - how else to put it? - a loser. David Wapp, 29, has spent most of his adult life in prison, and even when he got out under supervised release, he couldn't follow the rules and landed back in prison.
He'd been out of prison just five days, released Sept. 1, when, according to the criminal complaint filed this week, he had an argument with Peterson in her car that Sept. 5 Saturday night. He said he snapped, stabbed her, left and returned moments later to cut her throat, finishing what he'd started.
In June, Daniel K. Christesen, 49, called police and reported he'd stabbed his girlfriend, Carol Fisher, in the Waukesha duplex they split. Police had responded to a number of arguments between them over the years. He's due in court Oct. 1 on a homicide charge.
Renee Redmer disappeared in January, soon after she'd appeared in Waukesha County court Jan. 5 on a drug possession charge. She'd been ordered to have no contact with Brandon Mueller, 36, a Brookfield man police described as her boyfriend and who's now charged with her murder in Fond du Lac County. He allegedly strangled her and, with the help of his mother and another, burned her body and threw the ashes in a lake.
The memory of these three victims will be invoked while justice is sought, but they'll be remembered in another public way.
As The Women's Center again marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, three more silhouettes will have to be added to those that stood last year representing local domestic violence deaths since 1992.
That's number 26, 27, 28.
Stop it.

Van Dyne man found guilty of burning body
BY RUSSELL PLUMMER • The Reporter • November 20, 2009
A Van Dyne man has pleaded no contest to burning the body of a 28-year-old Waukesha woman who was allegedly strangled to death in a Fond du Lac apartment.
http://cmsimg.fdlreporter.com/apps/pbcsi.dll/bilde?Site=U0&Date=20091120&Category=FON0101&ArtNo=91120145&Ref=AR&Profile=1985&MaxW=180&Border=0
Donald R. Worth, 48, of W6379 Kinker Road, entered pleas Friday to counts of party to the crime of mutilating a corpse and possession of marijuana.
Charges of resisting and obstructing an officer and possession of THC were dismissed and read into the court record. A charge of harboring or aiding a felon was dismissed.
Worth confessed to police that in January he helped Brandon J. Mueller, 36, of Brookfield, burn the body of Renee M. Redmer and dispose of the ashes in Lake Winnebago, according to court documents.
“The goal wasn’t to settle it before taking it to trial,” defense attorney Michael O’Rourke said. “However, Mr. Worth, from his confession on … has expressed a great deal of remorse and indicated he was very sorry for the pain he caused Renee Redmer’s family. In my discussions with him, he has always been open to entering a plea and, essentially, in his mind, doing the right thing and taking the consequences for the poor choices he made.”
Fond du Lac County District Attorney Dan Kaminsky — who consulted with Fond du Lac Police Department Detective Mike Mueller about the plea bargain — agreed to cap his recommendation at four years in prison with four years probation.
However, Circuit Court Judge Dale English could impose a sentence of more than 12 years in prison.
Worth became involved with the Redmer case when Mueller and Mueller's mother, Nancy J. Pinno, 53, of Fond du Lac, allegedly transported the Waukesha woman’s body to his Van Dyne home, where the body was burned in a barrel, according to the criminal complaint.
“From (the moment he saw Redmer’s body, Worth) has said that he regretted the decision to not simply call police,” O’Rourke said. “It is a decision he accepts he made and is now going to be punished for it.”
Mueller is accused of strangling Redmer in January inside Pinno’s Fond du Lac apartment, putting the body in a cooler and placing the cooler in a garage at the Courtyard Apartments complex on Berger Parkway, according to the complaint.
Kaminsky said his main goal was to get Worth to plea to the most serious charge of mutilating a corpse. Kaminsky said he’s satisfied he can use Worth at Pinno’s Dec. 14 trial and Mueller’s trial that has not been set. O’Rourke said his client intends to take the stand.
Kaminsky added that Worth’s actions were serious because they covered up a murder, but there may be more to the story.
“On the other hand, his participation was spur of the moment — it was not premeditated,” Kaminsky said. “He was faced with a situation and had to make a split-second decision. There may have been some fear involved in the fact he was face to face with somebody who may have been a murderer.
“(Worth’s) actions still deserve some redress in the justice system.”

I'm struck by the oft-repeated word in the news items: "I finally killed her".
Finally.
Well, yeah, I guess if you kill someone its pretty final for them, but in this sense of the word it means that he had wanted to do it and contemplated it for quite some time.
I take note how those around him readily jumped into action to aid him.
And this is what the woman had chosen as a boyfriend? These were the people he associated with when she was alive? While it is clear that his committing murder is an ultimate act, I somehow doubt his prior actions were representative of stellar ethical behavior.

Stop it.

Gaps in DNA databanks have led to tragedy
By TODD RICHMOND (AP) – 9 hours ago
MADISON, Wis. — During what police say was a 20-year killing spree in Milwaukee, Walter Ellis left his DNA behind all along the way — everywhere but the one place where it might have saved a life.
Ellis should have given a DNA sample to the state crime databank during a prison stint in the early part of this decade, but he had another inmate pose as him, authorities say. As a result, when analysts tried to identify DNA in bodily fluids from one of the slayings back in 2003, no matches turned up.
Investigators didn't connect Ellis to the crimes until this fall, when they seized genetic material from his toothbrush. By then, it was too late for the woman police say was Ellis' seventh and final victim.
"If they would have got his DNA when they were supposed to get it, maybe my cousin would still be here," said Sarah Stokes, whose cousin, 28-year-old prostitute Ouithrean Stokes, was found beaten and strangled in an abandoned rooming house in 2007.
An Associated Press review found tens of thousands of DNA samples are missing from state databanks across the country because they were never taken or were lost. The missing evidence — combined with big backlogs at the nation's crime labs that result in DNA samples sitting on shelves for years without being analyzed and entered into the databanks — is preventing investigators from cracking untold numbers of cases. And some of those gaps have had tragic consequences.
"If you got missing samples, some of those people are out there raping your wives and abducting and murdering your children this week," said former Charlottesville, Va., police Capt. J.E. Harding, who helped uncover missing samples in that state during a search for a serial rapist.
Crime lab supervisors, state police and prison officials blame the failure to collect samples on new and confusing laws and a lack of coordination among the many different law enforcement agencies and institutions responsible for taking DNA.
"I would just about guarantee you every state has an issue with this," said Lisa Hurst, who tracks DNA convictions for Gordon Thomas Honeywell, an organization that lobbies on public safety and biotechnology issues.
The AP review found 27 states either failed to collect some DNA samples or are unable to say whether they took one from every offender who owes one.
The case against Ellis, who is set to go trial this spring, prompted an audit in Wisconsin that found 12,000 convict samples are missing. The AP review further found that Illinois failed to get DNA from about 50,000 offenders, Colorado from 2,000, and Virginia from about 8,400.
Exactly how many samples are missing across the country is unknown. The National Institute of Justice estimated in 2003 that offenders owed up to 1 million uncollected samples and as many as 300,000 samples may be waiting for processing. The backlog grew to about 450,000 by 2008. The institute had no updated estimate of uncollected samples.
At least 13 states are dealing with more samples than they can handle. Kansas, for example, has nearly 40,000 on its crime lab shelves, waiting for upload.
Police in Columbus, Ohio, say Robert N. Patton Jr. committed 37 rapes over a decade and a half. As with Ellis in Milwaukee, he could have been stopped earlier.
Patton had submitted his DNA in 2001 while behind bars for burglary, but it was not entered into the database until 2004, two days before he climbed through an apartment window and raped Diana Cunningham. Police say he attacked 13 women in all after supplying his DNA.
If Patton's genetic material "had been processed in a timely fashion, he never would have gotten to me or gotten to any of the others," said Cunningham, now 25. "It's scary how many more people are going to be victimized because their attackers aren't going to be caught. And it would be so easy for them to be caught if they could make the matches."
Patton is now serving a 68-year prison sentence.
State databanks contain hundreds of thousands of samples. The FBI's national database, built with states' uploads, held 7.4 million as of September.
Over the past 15 years, tough-on-crime legislators expanded laws to require DNA from more offenders. First it was sex offenders. Today, 47 states demand DNA from every convicted felon. Twenty-one take it from anyone arrested for homicide or a sex crime, according to Gordon Thomas Honeywell.
Generally, prison officials collect DNA from inmates as they enter the institution, often by swabbing the prisoner's mouth. Local police, sheriff's departments or probation officers are also supposed to take samples. That means a profusion of collection points.
But the laws are so fluid that the agencies responsible for collecting DNA struggle to track which offenders owe samples, authorities say. The New Mexico lab has taken to sending wall charts to sheriff's departments to help them keep things straight.
Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle has blamed his state's missing DNA, in part, on confusion over the laws during the early days and no clear idea of who was in charge.
Roughly half the states have some cross-check between their labs and prison systems to ensure everyone who owes a sample has given it, the AP found. For example, Michigan DNA administrators and state prison officials compare information annually. Virginia requires that it be done quarterly. But half the states have no such procedures.
Robyn Quinn, Delaware's DNA database administrator, said she is sure her state is missing DNA, but has no idea how much, citing lack of communication between her office and the Corrections Department.
"The other end is a black hole for me. We have no way of getting into their system to see who is supposed to be collected," she said. "I am waiting for something to hit the fan, if you will."

Wis. mom convicted of helping son dispose of body
Associated Press - December 18, 2009 6:25 PM ET
FOND DU LAC, Wis. (AP) - Fond du Lac prosecutors say a woman accused of helping her son dispose of a body has been found guilty of 2 charges.
District attorney Daniel Kaminsky says a jury convicted 53-year-old Nancy J. Pinno on Friday. She was found guilty of obstructing an officer and being party to the crime of mutilating a corpse.
A message left Friday for Pinno's defense attorney was not immediately returned.
Pinno is the mother of Brandon Mueller, who's accused of strangling his girlfriend in January. Authorities say he cremated her body with the help of his mother and 48-year-old Donald R. Worth of Fond du Lac.
The victim was 28-year-old Renee Redmer of Waukesha. Investigators say her bone fragments were found in a burn pit on Worth's property.

I understand how a mother wants to protect their children but this takes it to a whole new realm. I love my son to death but I wouldn't cover up a murder let alone help him. At least I really hope I wouldn't and if I did, please shoot me.

Mother gets 8 years for helping to hide corpse
By Russell Plummer
The Reporter rcplummer@fdlreporter.com
A Fond du Lac woman will spend more than eight years in prison for helping get rid of the body of a Waukesha woman.
Fond du Lac County Circuit Court Judge Richard Nuss on Wednesday ordered Nancy J. Pinno, 53, to serve the maximum sentence of 7½ years in prison for party of the crime of mutilating a corpse and nine months for resisting and obstructing an officer.
Nuss also ordered the maximum of five years extended supervision.
Pinno's son, Brandon J. Mueller, 36, of Brookfield, allegedly strangled the Waukesha woman in January inside Pinno's Fond du Lac apartment.
Mueller put the body in a cooler and placed the cooler in a garage at the Courtyard Apartments complex on Berger Parkway, the criminal complaint alleges.
Amber Donath, Redmer's twin sister, requested Nuss impose the maximum sentence. She detailed how Redmer's disappearance left the family broken and news of her death left behind Redmer's two daughters.
"I find it impossible to explain to a 12-year-old girl that her mother was mutilated, violated and destroyed beyond the darkest imagination," Donath said. "… All I can do is hold her and tell her I love her."
At the sentencing hearing, Pinno continued to deny any knowledge about Redmer's body.
"I am sorry for any involvement I had with Renee," Pinno told Nuss. "I still don't know how Renee got there. I should have looked in my bedroom (for Redmer's body). For that, I am so sorry."
On Dec. 18, a jury found Pinno guilty after five days of testimony, including watching hours of footage in which Pinno confessed her involvement to detectives.
Nuss compared Pinno — whose criminal history includes crimes of theft and possession of THC — to Kevin Moore, a seemingly mild-mannered man who used a cinder block to kill his wife outside of their Ripon home during the early morning hours of Nov. 13, 2006.
Pinno helped transport the cooler to the home of Donald R. Worth, 48, of W6379 Kinker Road. That's where Worth and Mueller burned Redmer's body in a barrel before dumping the ashes into Lake Winnebago, according to the criminal complaint.
Fond du Lac County District Attorney Dan Kaminsky requested nearly seven years in prison, describing the crime as "disgusting" and "callous."
"I believe it was a maximum-sentence case. It was just a question of how we were going to get there," Kaminsky said. "I'm very pleased with the sentence. I think it's appropriate. In this case, it is justice."
Defense Attorney Catherine Block told The Reporter there may have been too much focus on the connection between the mother and son, noting that Pinno put Mueller up for adoption 36 years ago and only had contact with him the past 1½ years.
"It was a very manipulative relationship," said Block, who requested probation for her client. "… There was a lot of focus on her son being Brandon Mueller. I think that had a lot less to do with it than Ms. Pinno's own mental condition and depression."
Nuss said Worth, who accepted a plea deal and will be sentenced at a later date, would have never gotten involved in the case if not for Pinno.
"But for your actions, this may have never had happened," Nuss told Pinno. "You were there at a critical time in this woman's life and your son's life when you could have stepped up and been the person you would like me to believe you are. You didn't."
Nuss said Redmer might have still been alive while stuffed in a cooler. He added the smell of rotting flesh caused the person renting the garage unit next to Pinno's to vomit, yet Pinno continues to claim she had no knowledge of what was inside the cooler.

Wis. man gets 6 years for helping dispose of body
Associated Press - May 12, 2010 6:25 PM ET
FOND DU LAC, Wis. (AP) - A Fond du Lac man who pleaded no contest to mutilating a corpse has been sentenced to six years in prison.
Prosecutors say 49-year-old Donald R. Worth helped cremate a woman's body after someone else killed her.
Worth faced 7 1/2 years in prison but received a lighter sentence Wednesday because he testified against two others in the case.
Worth's attorney didn't immediately return a message Wednesday.
Brandon J. Mueller is accused of strangling his ex-girlfriend, who was reported missing early last year. Criminal complaints say Mueller and his mother, Nancy Pinno, brought the body to Worth's home where Worth and Mueller cremated it.
Pinno was convicted and sentenced to more than eight years in prison. Mueller's trial is scheduled to begin in October.
