Oak Park couple find dismembered body in alley

Associated Press
10:19 PM CDT, March 11, 2009

CHICAGO - Officials in the Chicago suburb of Oak Park say that a resident found garbage bags filled with human body parts in the alley behind his home.

Harriet Hawkins says she noticed four strange bags while pulling her car out of her garage Wednesday morning. Her husband, 60-year-old Warren Udelson, says he went outside to look and found a brown sock with what looked like a foot inside.

Police say the bags were filled with the partially clothed, dismembered body of a Latino man in his 20s or 30s. They say they believe the body parts were dumped in the alley.

Authorities say there have been no recent reports of missing persons.

Dismembered body found in Oak Park identified

March 12, 2009
PRESS REPORTS
A man whose dismembered body was found in bags in an Oak Park alley Wednesday morning has been identified Thursday. Rafael Ramirez, 18, of the 2700 block of North Nordica Avenue in Chicago, has been identified as the victim, according to Oak Park police. He was identified by various body markings.

“We believe the victim was killed in another location and the body was randomly left in Oak Park,” Oak Park Police Chief Ricky C. Tanksley said. “Information thus far leads us to believe this is a gang or drug-related homicide. Our investigation into what occurred is continuing.”

Four garbage bags containing severed human body parts were found in the alley behind the 1000 block of Clarence Avenue, Oak Park police Sgt. Thomas Dransoff said. One contained what he believed was a human foot.

An autopsy is slated for later Thursday.

A law enforcement source indicated the tattoos on the arm of the body are similar to the tattoos of a man who was reported missing in Chicago by his girlfriend March 9. The abbreviation ‘RIP’ is included in the tattoo, according to the source. Police have not yet confirmed if Ramirez was the missing man.
