Never has so much been said by so few proving that here inspiration flows like lave burning the soles of our feet and helps me to run the sweeper as I are hopping around yelling and flailing our arms which releases the sweeper and the cat runs outside opening the door wide enough for the sweeper to get out and move down the road to the turnpike ramp where it was last seen racing a Dodge Dart and winning as well as collecting highway debris causing the state to award me The Citizen of the Year Award so thank you Faith, Ali and Roamey for everything and keep it up as we need all the help we can get or maybe not depending or else.

:happy0207: Hello all!
I babysat the granddaughter yesterday. One of those short notice deals. Son in laws grandpa has been very ill for months and took a turn for the worse. Paternal grandma had to be there and Jess and Ben had to work. Teagan didn't seem to be feeling well but she wasn't too warm, just kinda clingy and not much appetite. Then I got the news that my nieces MIL died. She had pancreatic cancer that they found just a few months ago. So, it wasn't such a great day all around. To top it off, I got sick after coming home last night. I was up all night and couldn't fall to sleep until after seven this morning.
And then there's Doof. As most of you know, he will be 17 in August. For some time we've noticed he has trouble with his back legs. Sometimes they just don't want to work for him. So he'll get up and then just fall over. Last night he was laying beside me and stretched. He let out this horrible scream of pain. He did that one other time too. I'm wondering if maybe he has arthritis in his hips? Anyone have any experience with that in cats?
On a more positive note, Teagan will turn 3 on March 18th! We have a Barbie Mustang Power Wheels for her. I can't wait. She's the perfect age to get the most use of it and it will stay here as they don't have room at their place. Bonus for us since she'll want to come here and drive her car a lot.
Boy, I'm long winded today. Sorry about that. :blondblush113268230
Here's Teagan's car. And no, we didn't pay that for it!

So much going on in your life, TamTam! I'm so sorry for the bad parts.
The car is a cutie and similar to the one Isabella received on her third birthday last April. She loved it.

Tam: It is time for a serious talk with the vet about your old pal Doof. Sorry about all the family problems. Makes you think of the old saying "when it rains, it pours". I had a day like that back in 91. I was just emotionally sapped by all the bad things that had happened that day (including being in an accident). I got home and picked up the phone....it was my sister telling me she had cancer. Prayers and hugs your way.

Seriously, big secret coming, I am terrified of stuffed wildlife! As a kid, my dad dragged us through every wildlife museum he could find. There was always that polar bear hiding behind a corner that was posed rearing up with the teeth bared! I've had plenty of nightmares about those things coming to life and I'm not comfortable around any of it. :thud2:

TamTam.... you weren't long winded, just had lots to share with us, ....and That's A Good Thing. :friends3:
Sorry, can't help you with Doof... not a cat-person. Maggie has arthritis pretty bad but she hasn't done what you describe... She'll be 14 the 17th of March.
Sorry for your loss (nieces MIL) and I hope SIL's grandpa gets better.
Now, as for Teagan's car... KC had got his daughter a little car similar to that when she was a bit younger than Teagan. But he modified it with some gizmo he created so it was like a remote control car and he could steer her around the yard and control the thing with a joystick. Of course it wasn't too long before she wasn't satisfied with that and he had to turn the controls back over to her. LOL
I told him he should patent it but he never bothered. :104511:

My dad used to have to stop at anyplace that advertised snakes on display.... and they used to be all up and down the highways "back in the day". I'd forgotten that till I read your post. Now I recall Daddy having an ash tray snake. It was a real (dead) rattle snake all coiled up with it's head up in a striking pose with a glass ashtray nestled inside the coil.
I wonder what ever happened to that thing.... not that I want it!!!!!

Hey, all!
I don't have time to read through the many, many posts since I was able to log in last. We're expecting a plumber and a restoration crew at the house today, and I have errands I need to do that will take me out of the house (and of course I have to be here for when the crews come - argh!). We're still getting water in the basement, although we've got a temporary sump set up and the plumber is coming today to install a permanent one. DH thinks there's a water main break someplace and that's where the water is coming from.
Everybody wants to come to do work, although they're not doing the work we were told they would do, and the insurance company hasn't given us the OK to go ahead yet. And their adjuster, who was scheduled to come on Saturday, was a no-call, no-show.

Nada.....it was raining cats & dogs most of the day and it was quite chilly. Just snuggled up by the fire with a book and read most of the day. My DS, DIL and granddaughters came yesterday and we spent the day visiting and EATING! We made shish-ka-bobs, wild rice and a greek salad. My 4-year old granddaughter requested this for my garden: salad, apples, bananas and strawberrys! I told her that I would get out my majic ball and see what I could do for her......she has quite an imagination that one. She has also discovered the digital camera and she has taken 173 pictures so far....thank God it's digital and they can delete most of them and keep what they want for her......about 30 of them were self-portraits with different funny faces and they were just too funny. Have a great day at work and we'll try to catch you later.

Morning all! The sun is shining....woooohoooo! The boys will be fishing and hanging out (spring break). We only have one extra this a.m. because (get this) when we were giving the weekend long guests a ride home yesterday one of the moms was not home and not answering her cell phone. By the time we found her, it was way after dark so we just kept him another night. This lady is a part time minister, yet was that irrisponsible. Oh well...he is a good boy and fits right in. I am so inspired by the weather that I am out to buy tomato plants, etc this afternoon.

Oh, ann... how awful. Did any of the cabinets survive? Did your poor aching back?
Good luck with the insurance company... I hope you get a good adjuster, that can make all the difference. We found that out down here after Katrina. :1222423:
A few parts of the cabinets probably survived. We're going to see if we can just use the receipt from the entire original purchase for replacement, though. It's easier, and things are stacked up in the garage in such a way that I can't do a complete inventory on them.
The restoration company was back out today to finish moving things out, and the plumber is here now. The birds do NOT like the jackhammer!
We still haven't met the adjuster, since he didn't show up on Saturday like he was supposed to.

Just took a little 21 mile trip to complete an errand. The wildflowers are to die for. All the way there and back I could not keep my eyes on the road for swooning over the sea of red, yellow, white, and purple. If any of you have not seen Texas wildflowers, they are worth a driving trip. The bluebonnets will be in bloom soon, and I will head to Chappel Hill, Tx to enjoy them (they will be everywhere...but that place has the best display).

TamTam.... you weren't long winded, just had lots to share with us, ....and That's A Good Thing.
SIL's grandpa isn't going to get better, he's on hospice. But, he's been here much longer than they thought and still hanging in.
That's really cool about the car! He should have gotten a patent for sure.

Had an interesting thing happen at work today. A customer came in and I heard him trying to tell on of the other preparers something but his English was suffering from his excitement. Finally he raised his arm, bent at the elbow and wrist and said something that sounded like "cobra".
It turned out that we had a snake in our parking lot.
http://scienceblogs.com/clock/upload/2007/02/copperhead.jpg
We watched for a while and it wasn't moving, but neither the other preparer nor I was ready to go check it for signs of life. I called my son (who is "into" reptiles) and tried to describe it to him but he couldn't be sure what it was however, since he was off today he said he'd come down and check it out. I think he was hoping it would turn out to be someone's pet ball python who'd escaped. It turned out to be a copperhead.... and it turned out it was dead.
When DS started to leave GS was wanting to get out of the truck... did he want to come see Grammy???? Nooooooo, he wanted to go see the snake! :45024:

GROSS!
Me no likey snakes. Plus, those are dangerous snakes!
All snakes are dangerous snakes to me.... I tend to run into things when I run away. Ouch!
I have no idea how likely this actually happened, but I got it in an email today:
I've been teaching now for about fifteen years. I have two kids myself,
but the best birth story I know is the one I saw in my own second grade
classroom a few years back.
When I was a kid, I loved show-and-tell. So I always have a few sessions
with my students. It helps them get over shyness and usually,
show-and-tell is pretty tame. Kids bring in pet turtles, model airplanes,
pictures of fish they catch, stuff like that. And I never, ever place any
boundaries or limitations on them. If they want to lug it in to school
and talk about it, they're welcome.
Well, one day this little girl, Erica, a very bright, very outgoing kid,
takes her turn and waddles up to the front of the class with a pillow
stuffed under her sweater.
She holds up a snapshot of an infant. 'This is Luke, my baby brother, and
I'm going to tell you about his birthday.'
'First, Mom and Dad made him as a symbol of their love, and then Dad put
a seed in my Mom's stomach, and Luke grew in there. He ate for nine
months through an umbrella cord.'
She's standing there with her hands on the pillow, and I'm trying not to
laugh and wishing I had my camcorder with me. The kids are watching her
in amazement.
'Then, about two Saturdays ago, my Mom starts saying and going, 'Oh, Oh,
Oh, Oh!' Erica puts a hand behind her back and groans. 'She walked around
the house for, like an hour, 'Oh, oh, oh!' (Now this kid is doing a
hysterical duck walk and groaning.)
' My Dad called the middle wife. She delivers babies, but she doesn't have
a sign on the car like the Domino's man. They got my Mom to lie down in
bed like this.' (Then Erica lies down with her back against the wall.)
'And then, pop! My Mom had this bag of water she kept in there in case he
got thirsty, and it just blew up and spilled all over the bed, like
psshhheew!' (This kid has her legs spread with her little hands miming
water flowing away. It was too much!)
'Then the middle wife starts saying 'push, push,' and 'breathe, breathe.
They started counting, but never even got past ten. Then, all of a
sudden, out comes my brother. He was covered in yucky stuff that they all
said it was from Mom's play-center, (placenta) so there must be a lot of
toys inside there. When he got out, the middle wife spanked him for
crawling up in there.'
Then Erica stood up, took a big theatrical bow and returned to her seat.
I'm sure I applauded the loudest. Ever since then, when it's
show-and-tell day, I bring my camcorder, just in case another ' Middle Wife' comes along.
Amy, for some reason this story made me think of your little Cowboy. {{{Huggers}}}

I just did Claudia....and I am in the process of getting a fresh salad made and then jetting it off to you. Hope that you haven't lost too much weight w/o eating but I'm moving as fast as I can to get that salad to you. Sorry it's taking so long. In the meantime, why don't you try to make a run to your local grocery store and pick up a few items for that salad......lettuce (your choice - romaine or bib), greek olives (pitted are best), radishes, feta cheese and cherry tomatoes. Grab a bottle of extra virgin olive oil, some thyme, rosemary, oregano and basil, and some fresh lemons (I use 2-3 depending on size). If they don't have fresh herbs bottled ones will do. Chop up the herbs, pour the evoo over them and squeeze the lemon juice in. Pour all ingredients into a pretty little jar and refrigerate. When ready to put salad together the dressing out and let it come to room temperature. Try this and you will not want to order another 'Greek Salad' for any resturant anymore. If this is too pain-staking for you, I will try to get mine to you a soon as possible.:tender:

I think you would like the Feta in the Greek Salad my dear. Not too much on my agenda today except work. I cleared out the weeds in my flower beds and raised garden beds about a week ago so I am ready for this weather to stabilize. I am itching to get to the garden center for my vegetable plants but I am really trying to be a good girl and keeping my butt at home. I am ordering my herbs today and hopefully they will get here when I am all set to do some major gardening.

Yes, I put marigolds in to (hopefully) deter the bad insects. I don't know if it works, but at least they put some color there. I had rosemary (I think that's what you thought was moss rose), thyme, oregano, parsley, sage, chives and basil.
I have the herbs stated in my saved egg cartons and they are about 2" tall now. I tried starting tomatos from seed the same way and they're about the same size. I was delayed and just this past weekend planted cantaloupe, cucumbers, and zucchini seeds. I don't know how they will do, but I couldn't stand it any longer.... had to plant SOMETHING:45024:

I know what you mean......I don't start anything from seed, always buy the plants from the nursery. I tried to do some zinnias last year from seed and that was the biggest disappointment ever. They just didn't survive being transplanted. Guess I did not let them mature enough. I just love zinnias, especially the little dwarf ones called Thumbelina.

I'm not expecting much from the seeds, but it pacified me temporarily. LOL I won't have my heart broken if the seedlings don't do well and, clearly, I don't have much investment there. :0t31:

Pat, I use Tansy Plants in my gardens and flower beds. The are great for warding off critters. The have yellow button flowerheads in tall clusters. You can use them as dried flowers. Here's another hint......place muslin bags of dried leaves in kitchen forners to repel ants and cockroaches. They are best planted in containers and placed around your garden to curb spreading.

The sun is shining today, amazing how one's outlook from a little bit of the big yellow can be inspiring. I might even rake a few gardens today, or take care of some pinecones. This winter the pines profusely spread their offspring making a thick carpet of pinecones. Enough that it will take many wagon loads to be rid of them. :45024:

PatC, I grow Tansy, but didn't know to dry it and it would ward off critters. I don't get cockroaches, but do sometime have something called water bugs, maybe they are related as they kinda look the same. At least that is what I think they R. I still love the boat garden! :kissyface4:
I do put some of the Tansy in herb wreaths that I make and hang them in the kitchen, so actually I must be ridding something. I always make large wreaths, and my favorite ones are made using artemsia.

BLaa you are making me hungary sooooooo ~~~
Here is what I am going to do today: MAYBE!!!!!! Found this on the net yesterday.
How to Make Pesto like an Italian Grandmother
One key to perfect pesto is chopping all the ingredients by hand, preferably with a sharp mezzaluna or knife. I gave my double-bladed mezzaluna to a friend last year because it was collecting dust (I also didn't like how ingredients would get stuck between the blades), but have a large half-moon shaped pizza cutter that works like a dream. Francesca's mom even approved and said it cut her chopping time in half. This pesto will keep a bit in the refrigerator, but it really hits its peak when served soon after it is made.
The technique here is: chop a bit, add some ingredients, chop some more. I think part of the reason she does it this way (instead of chopping everything all at once) is because some things get chopped into oblivion, while some not as much - it encourages specturm of cut sizes throughout the pesto contributing to the overall texture. All told, the chopping took me a leisurely twenty to thirty minutes, I wasn't in any particular rush.
You'll notice this recipe doesn't have any added salt (just the saltiness from the cheese), make sure your pasta water is well salted if you are going to use this pesto on pasta or the overall flavor profile will fall flat. Also, be sure to adjust for seasoning before serving. With food this simple, you need to get the seasoning right.
1 large bunch of basil, leaves only, washed and dried
3 medium cloves of garlic
one small handful of raw pine nuts
roughly 3/4 cup Parmesan, loosely packed and FRESHLY GRATED
A few tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil
Special equipment: large mezzaluna for chopping
Start chopping the garlic along with about 1/3 of the basil leaves. Once this is loosely chopped add more basil, chop some more, add the rest of the basil, chop some more. I scrape and chop, gather and chop. At this point the basil and garlic should be a very fine mince. Add about half the pine nuts, chop. Add the rest of the pine nuts, chop. Add half of the Parmesan, chop. Add the rest of the Parmesan, and chop. In the end you want a chop so fine that you can press all the ingredients into a basil "cake" - see the photo up above. Transfer the pesto "cake" to a small bowl (not much bigger than the cake). Cover with a bit of olive oil, it doesn't take much, just a few tablespoons.
You can set this aside or place it in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it. Just before serving give the pesto a quick stir to incorporate some of the oil into the basil. She occasionally thins the pesto with a splash of pasta water for more coverage, but for our gnocchi this wasn't necessary.
Makes about 1 cup.
I don't have the special cutter but I will adapt with something.
And by the way, 'raw pine nuts' were $15.99/ box, so I bought a small bag in the baking aisle. @ $3.99 WOW huh? :0009:
Note: I saved bandwidth! :happy0158:

Thanks, I didn't know that about Tansy. That's one of the plants I'm supposed to put in if I ever get around to laying out my "Majick Garden".
If they're "spreaders" maybe I should try some of them in my ditch out front along with the mint I'm going to plant. We have a really deep ditch in front next to the road and it gives DH fits to mow. I'd love to plant something out there that wouldn't get very tall but that would take over and choke out everything else. I looked for Pennyroyal last year but didn't find any and I haven't even seen the seeds this year. I had some in a container maaaaaannnnnneeeyyyy years ago. I infused some into my dog shampoo back then.

G'morning, all o y'all.
PatC, at least now I know ya don't have a floatin' boat in yer yard.
LL, I wish someone would make that Greek Salad for me.
Roamy, I C U. The ABC thingy u posted is so cute!
Grins, I'll take those 2 expressos, half half 'n half.
Amy, you've not been working long enough to really enjoy Spring Break! LOL
Hey, Ali. How's by you today?
I'm watching Bobby Flay and now I want to go fire up the grill. He just grilled some portabella (sp?) mushrooms and is stacking with cheese and fresh spinach. YUM....
<snipped variously for space>
This winter the pines profusely spread their offspring making a thick carpet of pinecones. Enough that it will take many wagon loads to be rid of them. :45024:
Too bad you don't have an outlet for all those pinecones. Just think of all the people all over the country going to craft stores and BUYING them for their fall and winter craft projects.
I don't get cockroaches, but do sometime have something called water bugs, ....
Folks can call them what they want, they look like roaches to me! Kinda skeery too! Re: boat garden.... most fun I ever got from a boat, between getting to drill holes in the bottom then planting my herb garden that is.
I always make large wreaths, and my favorite ones are made using artemsia.
"artemisia"??? Is that the silver looking stuff?
Now I'm hungry.... and I already ate lunch. I love Italian food... probably my favorite. :45024:
Morning Ali :mornincoffee:
I forgot to tell you, nah don't give up Bridge, you can always find another group or sub. I'm thinking I should start playing agiain too. Along with finding some volunteer work somewhere. I am becoming a real slug here. maybe L A Z Y too!
Don't worry.... as soon as it warms up for you, you'll have some gardening to get you moving around more.

I'm gonna start charging you for information girlfriend....say a small retainer/fact finder fee? You can find just about any herb you want from this site: mulberrycreek.com. However, there was a letter in their catalog that this might be their last season. They don't do seeds, they do plants. The only drawback is that you have to order in lots of six before they will mail them to you...for instance.....3 Pennyroyal Mint (yes they do have pennyroyal and I forgot to order some this time) and 3 Tansy plants. I simply love cooking with fresh herbs and have found that most are very hardy for some of our 'cold' snaps.

Yay! Good to see you.

Good deal, DRJAN. Congratulations. I know you'll be glad to be home.
Do you have anybody at home to help you? My son's SO was here for me but she got bored because I really didn't need her to do anything. It was sweet of her to offer though.
Are you still on blood thinners? My dr. kept me on them even after I went home for a few weeks and a home health nurse had to come by and take a blood sample every so often to make sure my blood wasn't too thin.
It'll be good to have you around more. Expect to sleep a LOT.... but I'm sure you know that.

DrJ, I'm so glad you are healing and soon will be home... you may even be packing right now!
TamTam, when the 3 yr old in my family gained her car, she was anxious to drive it, but, soon was willing for a more knowledgeable cousin to sit in the driver's seat and drive her around the yard.
Well, folks, it's been an expensive day around here. DH brought home the verdict on our lawnmower. It would take more to repair it than it's worth. *snif*
So, we're going to buy a new mower. DH has been looking at these zero turns for a while now and I guess we're going to "bite the bullet" and get one. The dealer has one of the 2008 models left and offered a good discount on it....
http://www.ferrisindustries.com/images/2485interfacezx.gif
This better be the last mower we buy for a VERY LONG TIME!!!! For what he's paying for this I feel we ought to clear out the guest bedroom for it. Oh well, it could be worse, he could have wanted one like BIL has... his is a Husqvarna and twice the cost.
All I can say is.... I better not hear even one complaint about mowing the grass this year.... or for several years to come. :45024:

No game today. Next Wednesday is next scheduled day.
That's a snazzy mower. The man who mows my yard occasionally brings his riding mower. Not sure what decides that. I heard a mower today and thought he was outside, but, it was a neighbor. I hate hearing the mowers, but, I also like living in a house rather than an apartment, unless, the apartment is sound proof. LOL

Oh, Anna! When it gets really hot, my neighbor starts mowing before seven AM and he mows every five days. I think he watches to see if a blade of grass is a little higher than others.
Years ago when I mowed my yard, I was just like you and wanted to wait longer and did. )))))))

Before hitting the sack, here's an Isabella story:
She will be 4 in a couple of weeks and has been having dance lessons since age 3. She still takes a nap each afternoon, but, the day in question, events caused her to have to go to her lesson sans nap.
Once a month, moms get to have a peek for maybe the last 10 minutes of a session. Until that time the curtain is closed. The moms were eagerly awaiting the curtain to open and it did. Isabella was lying on the floor snoozing away. Teacher says she was awake most of the time, but, just before the curtain opened she simply laid down and got comfortable.
I've posted a pic of her striking a dance pose in my profile. If the pic is allowed to enlarge, the seriousness of her dancing is apparent in her eyes. It won't hurt my feelings if ya don't look. :s1gyahoo:

Good Mornin' Everyone!!
Good morning to Roamer, Nicky, Tam, Claudia, Kami and, of course Grins too.
Yes, Grins, the riding mowers are a big like bumper cars only, hopefully I won't bump anything too hard. LOL

Tam, Teagan looks like she really enjoyed her special day and is really cute in her new pink car. DH took a picture of me (and the doxies) on the new mower yesterday, but not nearly as cute as Teagan.
:s1gyahoo:
ETA: Great Scott.... I just noticed, you still have great mounds of SNOW ON THE GROUND?????

I remember when my oldest DS wanted to drive us home from my parents house (before we moved in next door) - 50 miles of white knuckles riding shotgun. I thought I was gonna die but we made it just fine and he really was a very good driver (my truck driver Dad taught him).

:mornincoffee:Good Morning Grims, Roamer, Nicky, Claudia, Tam, BLass, PatC, Kami, and Faith!
Well for the first day of spring, we are having some snow flakes flying about, and that isn't nice of Mother Nature! :groan: This time last year I remember seeing some bluebirds, their not here yet. Last night we were talking about the hummingbirds, surely they are on their way tho, as they were here last year sometime in April.
Grins, you are right on the mark, the snazzy mowers do resemble the bumper cars! :67302:
Oh PatC, we want pictures! :happy0158:
Tam, Teagan is darling, birthday crown and all! :kissyface4: Love her new wheels too, bet she was so thrilled. My granddaughters each have their own car, plus all the other children in their cul-de-sac, when they all get going it is a sight to behold.

It is cold here too, so far 38 degress and the flakes are still flaking arond, is there no end? :67302:
Ali, did you ever read the 'Red River Prosecutor'? I finished it last night. At first I liked it, then in the middle it was kind of boring, but it finished with a bang. It is good when you know you can't go to sleep till finished!

Still morning here, OC! :0t31:
The book is half-finished... I'll get back to it because it's due back to the library Tuesday. If I don't turn on the bright lamp before getting comfy, I won't get back up and my reading doesn't get done. :zm1:

Actually I went to 3 bed times last night, then was up and about to read 2 mores times. I could not wait till today to finish it. :blondblush113268230 I was really anxious to read if he explained anything about his relationship with his wife, after all his moaning and groaning about her. I will not tell!

My youngest grandson (5) had to have a larger truck this year...the smaller ones just did not do any longer. He and his best bud dash all over the place in it with the radio blaring. I keep thinking it is just a snapshot into the future. The idea of all them driving real cars one day just gives me shivers. I don't remember being this afraid when my own children started getting old enough to drive.....maybe there IS something to being older and wiser. LOL

3 years ago, DH and I sold our house, bought a motor home, loaded up the kiddos and took off for a year. Our youngest refused to leave her 'Barbie Jeep' behind. So....we strapped it to the top of the motor home, and were off. That jeep saw 17 states, and drove many a mile. Not to mention the laughter and pointing we got across the country, when we stopped at red lights. hehehehehehhehe
