Madeleine McCann's parents launch new appeal

Madeleine McCann's parents today launched a new appeal for information about their daughter focused on the area where she went missing nearly two years ago.
About 10,000 leaflets in Portuguese will be handed out and posted through letterboxes in Praia da Luz, Lagos and Burgau in southern Portugal over the next fortnight.
The Algarve campaign will be backed up with billboards and advertising on three buses and a van. http://ads.newsquest.co.uk/RealMedia/ads/adstream_lx.ads/www.theherald.co.uk/news/news/display.var.2497563.0.Madeleine_McCanns_parents_la unch_new_appeal.php/11484158955/x52/OasDefault/s1-standardlife-sky-her-mar09/18940/35636561333837333439633865656230?
Family spokesman Clarence Mitchell said the appeal was "very localised" with the aim of collecting the vital clue that could lead to Madeleine being found.
The official Find Madeleine Fund said in a statement: "At the time of Madeleine's disappearance the emphasis was placed more on international appeals, and it has been recognised that the local Portuguese residents of Praia da Luz and the surrounding areas have never been properly asked about information they may have to give.
"The purpose of the current campaign is to do just that - ask the local Portuguese residents for information to help to find Madeleine.
"Experience shows that the crucial answers are in the immediate vicinity.
"Someone in the area could almost certainly have the vital information that could help Madeleine's return to her family, or a combination of people all coming forward with a single piece of information could piece together vital clues which could solve the disappearance.
"Experience also shows that people almost always confide in someone else.
"Someone in Praia da Luz may have been given information that should be passed on and now is the perfect opportunity to do just that."
Information can be provided to the McCanns' private investigation team anonymously by telephone, email, text message or free post, and will be treated in confidence.
Madeleine was nearly four when she went missing from her family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz on May 3 2007 while her parents dined with friends nearby.
Despite a massive police investigation and huge publicity worldwide, she has not been found.

It's been a while, but I don't beleive this is true.

This makes absolutely no sense to me. If this was really true, why wait a couple of years to ask the questions? And how do PROPERLY ask questions?
Perhaps they mean to re-ask questions and get here name back in the media. Hooray for them! I hope it brings new information.

This is one of several children that has always been on my mind.
My prayer has always been that she is found safe with a loving family for one reason or another.

On the 6th of August I believe it was last year the Prosecutor in the case ( the guy who saw all the files) said that Madeleine died in the apartment that evening and that he totally discounted that there had been a kidnapping. He said the parents were negligent but didnt file an abandonment charge on them. For some reason this was never made public knowledge in this country - like anything wasnt that was negative to the McCanns.

So this guy says she died...but that the parents killed her. So I would assume that the belief is she died accidentally whilst her parents were out drinking.

The PJS are not looking any one else in connection with this. IMO the McCanns know EXACTLY where she is ..and its laughable after all this time there now asking the residents of Praia de Luz for help when the locals all believe the parents to be involved - and .. if any DID know anything why would they tell the McCanns of all people?

My guess is that the fund is getting short of money and needs filling up :45024:

I agree with you about the fund. I think this is a money maker for them.

Madeleine McCann posters are ripped off walls in Algarve

VANDALS have torn down Madeleine McCann (http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard-home/related-4950-articles-reviews/Madeleine+McCann/related.do) posters put up as part of a new appeal for clues in the Algarve (http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard-home/related-5793-articles-reviews/Algarve/related.do) resort where she disappeared.
The attacks have been blamed on locals who have voiced criticism of the McCanns' new campaign for information on their daughter's whereabouts.
The fresh appeal is focused on the area where Madeleine, then three, went missing on 3 May 2007 during a family holiday.
About 10,000 leaflets are being handed out and posted through letterboxes in Praia da Luz (http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard-home/related-40096-articles-reviews/Praia+da+Luz/related.do) and the nearby towns of Lagos and Burgau.
Resident Maria Afonso said: "It's stupid to think this campaign will bring Madeleine back two years after she disappeared. It's just sullying the reputation of the Algarve."

To be fair to the McCanns, no one was allowed to do any investigating in Portugal until the Portuguese LE had finished with their investigations, such as they were.

I believe the McCanns are only guilty of negligence. I still believe Madeleine is alive somewhere.

IMO

To be fair.. Kate McCann could have answered questions. She chose not to. She could have done a reconstruction. She chose not to. She could have gone back there at any time. She chose not to. How many parents with missing children act like that?

And thats not true - Metado the thugs hired by the McCanns did investigate there..if thats what you want to call it. Another would be harassing people. Funny thing is with the fund just 13% has been spent on searching for Madeleine and for some reason i thought thats what people donated the money for.

There is no need for the posters. Anyone who has seen anything would have told the PJS by now. No one who lives there is going to phone Metado..when the majority of the locals believe the McCanns are involved in what happened. The people there want to move on with there lives..they have had there lives disrupted enough.

IMO..putting posters up is a cheap move. Let the McCanns go to Portugal. Answer ALL questions put to them by the Pjs. Do a reconstruction and whatever is asked by the pjs.

What if...
Madeleine, like all who are missing, deserves to be found. Please keep looking for this child.

I agree that she deserves to be found whether she is alive or not.

The only problem is..the only people that can really help in this..dont really seem to want to help IMO

SG, in your opinion, do most people in England/Madeleine's area think the same way you do?

It was my thought at first that the McCanns knew what happened. Then I fluctuated back and forth, trying to believe it was a predator. Not sure what I think now, and when there are huge funds like the McCanns received, it makes you wonder.

And... why has just 13% been spent...

I also agree putting posters in the Algarve is a waste of time and effort.
It is just too late.

As you can see there..out of almost £2 mill raised in the year..only 250k went on the search...which supposedly was what the money was raised for. Someone is obviously making money somewhere ;(

In a poll in a daily people over 3/4 thought the McCanns knew what happened to there daughter.

Oprah Interview to Mark Second Anniversary of Madeleine McCann Disappearance

Gerry and Kate McCann, parents of abducted British girl Madeleine McCann.

Madeleine McCann's parents will be interviewed by Oprah Winfrey to mark the second anniversary of their daughter's disappearance.
Kate and Gerry McCann will fly to Chicago next week to film a one-hour special with the talk show queen.
It will be broadcast on May 3, two years after Madeleinevanished from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal.
The show will also feature footage from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Childrenin Washington.
The U.S. charity has produced age-progressed images for the program to show what Madeleine would look like now, at age five.
"These new photos will be revealed for the first time on Oprah," McCann family spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, told Sky News Online. "They have been done with the latest technology and Kate and Gerry believe they are the best possible visualization of what Madeleine looks like now."
Mitchell played down speculation of a multi-million dollar deal for the interview.
"Oprah Winfrey does not pay for interviews," he said.
"Kate and Gerry will not be receiving a single dollar for this and neither will the fund for Madeleine.
"The importance is the global platform it gives them to look for that breakthrough in the search for Madeleine."
Last year he denied the couple were at the center of a bidding war between Winfrey and ABC star Barbara Walters.
Oprahhas been asking the McCanns to appear on the show since disappeared.
But it is understood they thought it was inappropriate while they were still suspects in her disappearance.

This link may have been posted in a previous thread. It is from the "Eyes For Lies" blog and was posted Dec 2008. Quote from the blog; "I do not believe the McCanns killed, hid or disposed of little Maddie's body. I do believe she was abducted".

Did they or didn't they? In my opinion, there is enough reasonable doubt to keep me on the lookout for this child. What if I am wrong? Have I lost anything? I have continued to keep my eyes open, which costs me nothing. I am more vigilant with my child, aware that there are pedophile rings and evils in the world from which she needs to be protected. A good thing. I talk to God a little more, a little longer, praying for Madeline to be found. Something I would do regardless of what I believe happened to her.

What is the alternative? What if this child is out there and no one looks for her?

Just my oppinion. :0009:

I need to remind everyone that we are a victim advocate site and we are not here to accuse or bash family members of a missing person...

Thank you..
