It breaks my heart everytime I read about cases like this. I am sure these two girls are confused about what has happened to them and probably have been crying for their mommy. I pray that they will be found soon and their father will not do harm to his children.

AURORA, Colo. (Map, News) - Authorities say they're looking for two young girls and their father after the girls' mother was found dead in her home in the Denver suburb of Aurora.

Aurora police haven't released the woman's name or cause of death but say they're investigating the incident as a possible homicide.

Detective Shannon Lucy says authorities are looking for 38-year-old Brian Patterson and his daughters, 4-year-old Brianna and 3-year-old Alliyah.

Police say Patterson has lived at the home in the past but it's not clear if he lives there now.

Arapahoe County (http://www.examiner.com/Subject-Arapahoe_County.html) property records show the home is owned by a Pamela Patterson (http://www.examiner.com/Subject-Pamela_Patterson.html). And records obtained by KUSA-TV show Pamela Patterson filed for divorce in Arapahoe County in January.

An Amber Alert from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (http://www.examiner.com/Subject-Colorado_Bureau_of_Investigation.html) said Brian Patterson (http://www.examiner.com/Subject-Brian_Patterson.html) has a history of domestic violence and is a person of interest in the woman's death.

"We are concerned for the welfare of the kids," Lucy (http://www.examiner.com/Subject-Shannon_Lucy.html) said. "Obviously we have a homicide we're working here. We don't know what happened. We have not identified the suspect. What we want to do is find these little girls and make sure they're all right."

Brian Patterson is described as black, 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds. He sometimes goes by the name Kalid Muhammed (http://www.examiner.com/Subject-Kalid_Muhammed.html).

Police are looking for two vehicles: a red 1991 Isuzu Rodeo (http://www.examiner.com/Subject-Isuzu_Rodeo.html) with rear-end damage and a silver 2002 Dodge Stratus (http://www.examiner.com/Subject-Dodge_Stratus.html). Both have Colorado (http://www.examiner.com/Subject-Colorado.html) license plates.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or their local law enforcement agency.

2 children found safe after Amber Alert

AURORA - Police say two young children at the center of a nationwide Amber Alert were found unharmed Tuesday night. Their mother was found shot to death Tuesday morning.

Aurora Police were looking for 4-year-old Brianna and 3-year-old Aliyah Patterson, who they believed were with their father, 38-year-old Brian Patterson. He also goes by the name Khalid Muhammad.

Patterson was also found by police. Officers say his condition is unconfirmed, but he reportedly has a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation cancelled the Amber Alert just after 10 p.m. after the children and Patterson were found.

Police say Brianna and Aliyah's mother was found dead from a gunshot wound in the 17800 block of East Louisiana Avenue on Tuesday morning around 10:40 a.m.

Police say the father, Brian Patterson, is a person of interest in the case.

9NEWS has learned the name of the homeowner of the home where the woman was found dead is Pamela Patterson. She filed for divorce from Brian Patterson in January.

Before they were found Tuesday night, Brianna and Aliyah were last seen on Monday at 8 a.m. with Brian Patterson.

Police say they plan to arrest Patterson on charges of domestic violence, third-degree assault following an argument with the mother on Monday night at the home.

Investigators believe Patterson and the children were traveling in a 2002 silver two-door Dodge Stratus with Colorado license plate number 679-SUP.

Police say they already found a 1991 red Isuzu Rodeo with rear-end damage they were looking for a few blocks away from the home where the mother was found dead.

Brian Patterson has a history of domestic violence, according to police. There are also charges of solicitation for prostitution on his criminal record and he had driver's license revoked in 2002 and was caught driving three times after that.

9NEWS spoke to a neighbor who did not want to be identified. That person said that the mother was in the process of moving out of the house and had found an apartment to move into within the last three days.

The neighbor also says that the parents share custody of the children and Brian Patterson told the neighbor that he was frustrated that his wife "quit on the marriage."

"They seemed really nice and they were real quiet. I just saw him coming back and forth from work. I never really met him. This is a total shock. It's unbelievable," Sherri Monaco, another neighbor, said.

When I read these kind of stories, most of the time they will say the kids were un-injured or not harmed, safe. No way. After going through what they do when they have their Mother murdered and their Father arrested it would be impossible for them to be uninjured. They will probably never feel safe again, either.

How terrible to lose their mother under these circumstances.

Girls Found After Amber Alert; Dad Commits Suicide

Two young girls have been found safe after an Amber Alert in suburban Denver, but authorities say a woman believed to be their mother was found dead and their father died after shooting himself hours later.

A search was launched for Brianna Patterson, 4, and her 3-year-old sister, Aliyah, after the woman was found dead in a home in the eastern suburb of Aurora on Tuesday. Authorities haven't said how she died or released her name, but police say she was "probably" the girls' mother.

Police say Brian Carl Patterson, 38, the girls' father, shot himself late Tuesday after he was pulled over by state troopers in the northern suburb of Thornton. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

It's not clear if the girls were in the car with him, but police say they were found unharmed.

Public records show the home where the woman was found dead was owned by Pamela Patterson, and that she had filed for divorce from Brian Patterson in January.

Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates said investigators believe Brian Patterson struck his estranged wife during an argument on Monday. A warrant was issued for Brian Patterson Tuesday night on suspicion of domestic violence and assault.

The Amber Alert from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation said Brian Patterson had a history of domestic violence and was a person of interest in the woman's death.

My prayers go out to these young girls as they will have to go through life without their parents. :1222423:

My heart aches for these two children. It is my earnest prayer that they will have some loving family members to take them in and raise them with a loving hand, after all they have been through, and possibly witnessed. I sincerely hope that wherever these children wind up, that they will get the support and counseling that they will so desperately need, in order for them to overcome this heartbreaking situation.

I'm relieved that the girls were found safe. As for "unharmed"; physically yes, mentally, we can only wait and see depending on how much they witnessed. I pray for these two babies and their life ahead without Mommy and Daddy although it sounds as if they would have been better with just Mommy.
Be safe little ones!
