DeKalb Police are looking for a missing 22-year-old man who was last seen a week ago.
Pilar Hernandez, of Aurora, was last seen March 21 at his apartment in the 1100 block of Varsity Drive in DeKalb, according to a news release from the DeKalb Police Department. Hernandez was enrolled in classes at Northern Illinois University as recently as the fall 2008 semester, according to NIU spokesman Joe King.
Family members of Hernandez contacted DeKalb Police on Monday, at which time the department started a missing person investigation. A roommate had been the last one to see Hernandez, and that had been three days earlier, according to the news release.
Hernandez has not contacted any family member in more than two weeks and took most of his belongings with him when he left the apartment, according to the news release. He may be driving an aqua blue Toyota Corolla, license plate number 5028772.
Hernandez had been "acting differently as of late," DeKalb Police Lt. Gary Spangler said, specifically being distant and closed-off from family and friends.
There has been no activity on his credit cards or cell phone, Spangler said, but it is believed Hernandez had enough cash with him to get by for a week or two.
Foul play is not suspected, and it is not believed he is in the DeKalb area anymore, Spangler said.
"He has friends in different parts of the country," Spangler said. "We have spoken to them, and they have not seen them. We're just trying to get the word out."
Anyone who has information about the whereabouts of Pilar Hernandez is asked to contact the DeKalb Police Department at 815-748-8400.
Hernandez is 22 and is 6' 02", with black hair and blue eyes. He may be driving an aqua blue Toyota Corolla, license plate number 5028772.
