Omaha police say a woman and her toddler have been found dead in their southeast Omaha apartment, and the pair appear to have been dead for some time.

Police say foul play is not suspected in the deaths of 43-year-old Janelle Browning and 21-month-old Ezekiel Berry. Police say it appears the child may have been searching the apartment for food before his death.

"Just the thought of him being in there all by himself. What did he do? How come nobody could hear him? You know, no one at all, and why did it take people so long for anybody to check?" said Annette Fredrickson, victim's sister.

Police Capt. Mary Newman said police were called Monday after a friend of Browning's reported that Browning hadn't been seen for several weeks. When apartment officials checked the apartment, they found her dead inside. Police later found the boy.

Police have not said when they believe the two died. Unopened presents remained under a Christmas tree in the apartment, Newman said.

How sad. There is also a video on CNN that show pictures of the little boy. He was so precious. Poor little thing, he must have suffered so much his last days.

No one gets involved anymore. Everyone turns a deaf ear and blind eye!

How could you not hear him cry? Unopened presents from Christmas and no family members missed them?

Hilary Rodham-Clintons words haunt me. "It takes a village to raise a child". I know they couldn't have been the only ones in this village.

That was the first thing I thought of. Even long distance there's the telephone. Although you would think friends would have taken action sooner too. It's puzzling and we don't know any circumstances. That poor toddler.

Assuming she was fairly young having a toddler, I hope they can find the cause of death but after so much time. . . Maybe her medical history will give a clue. I wonder how they can rule out foul play so soon.

Bless their souls.
