Stanley claims defense knew about victimized juror

SAN QUENTIN A twice-convicted Lake County wife killer who has revealed where he says he buried a missing third spouse's body nearly 30 years ago, has now made another startling claim from his Death Row prison cell.
A federal judge has stayed execution for Gerald Frank Stanley, 64, after finding one of the jurors who had declared him mentally competent during his 1983 Butte County murder trial, failed to disclose she had been the victim of violence herself.
But in a written declaration seeking to represent himself in court, Stanley asserts he and his trial lawyers knew about the juror's prior victimization and chose to keep her on the jury. Stanley is trying to stop a hearing in Butte County Superior Court aimed at deciding whether it is feasible to determine whether he was mentally competent when he was ordered put to death in 1984.
