Murderer Guilty
Created On: Tuesday, 31 Mar 2009, 9:30 PM CDT

SHAKOPEE, Minn. - A jury has found 20-year-old Michael John Anderson guilty in the murder of 24-year-old Katherine Ann Olson.

Anderson was found guilty of first degree premeditated murder with intent.

Anderson was charged with for killing Olson after luring her with a fake babysitter ad on Craigslist.

The maximum sentencing is life in jail without parole. According to the criminal complaint, Anderson posted the phony babysitter-for-hire ad on Craigslist, luring Olson to his home in Savage on Oct. 25. The next day, Olson's body was found in the trunk of her car in a Burnsville park.

In closing arguments, the prosecution said the evidence showed Anderson's acts were premeditated, and that he lured Olson to his home in Savage with the intent of killing her.

The defense's attorney tried in its closing to show the death could have been accidental, in hopes that jurors would choose a second-degree manslaughter conviction.

Scott County prosecutors rested their case against Anderson on Monday after six days, 25 witnesses and 191 exhibits.

Good!

He will now get LWOP...the jurors saw the truth of what that coward did to Katherine. Luring her into his home via a false employment ad for a nanny. I am very proud of those jurors for giving Katherine and her family the justice and closure they so deserved...well, I'm not sure about closure Anderson gets to eat and breathe, Katherine doesn't...:45024:

LWOP is a fitting sentence...in lieu of the DP.

id wish he'd gotten the DP. it fits cuz it was premeditated, it was in the commission of another crime, (attempted rape) also false advertising, and other charges i could think of to add. i hope he enjoys his new roomates at the pen, they're just going to love him there.

Man Sentenced to Life in Prison in Murder of Former Duluth Woman

Apr. 1, 2009

SHAKOPEE, Minn. (AP) - The man who murdered a woman with strong family ties to Duluth has been sentenced to life in prison. The judge sentenced the man from Savage to life in prison without the chance of parole in the shooting death of Katherine Ann Olson. He lured Olson to his home with a baby-sitting ad on Craigslist.

The Scott County District judge sentenced 20-year-old Michael John Anderson on Wednesday morning. He was convicted of first-degree premeditated murder and other charges the night before.

In his closing, Scott County prosecutor Ron Hocevar told the jury Anderson simply wanted to kill someone on Oct. 25, 2007. That someone turned out to be the 24-year-old Olson.

Anderson didn't speak during the proceedings. Anderson's attorney plans an appeal because he wasn't allowed to present evidence that Anderson has Asperger's syndrome, a form of autism.

Olson grew up in Duluth where her father was a pastor at First Lutheran Church.

I don't think this will float. The judge ruled according to Minnesota law. Did the defense try to bring it in before sentencing? I think that would have been allowed according to Minnesota law. Right?

I know someone with Asperger's syndrome, I'm curious how Anderson wasn't diagnosed until 20 years old (of course and charged with murder). hmmmm
