Rankin officials hunt for missing man, 51

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department is searching for a 51-year-old Pelahatchie man who has been reported missing from his home since Monday.

Don Harvey was last seen at his home Sunday evening by relatives, Rankin County Sheriff Ronnie Pennington said.

Pennington said search and rescue teams along with search dogs combed a wooded area and a pond near his home on Monday and today.

Anyone with information about Harvey’s whereabouts is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department at (601) 825-1480.

Rankin County man's body found in creek
April 1, 2009

A body of a Rankin County man was found Tuesday evening near Pelahatchie, officials say.

It appears that Don Harvey, 52, drowned in a creek that ran by his farm off 118 Harvey Lane, Sheriff Ronnie Pennington said.

A family member reported Harvey missing to the Rankin County’s Sheriff’s Office on Sunday. Deputies visited Monday and searched for Harvey on Tuesday with dogs for several hours, the sheriff said.

The Sheriff’s Office asked the Rankin County Emergency Operations Center for assistance, and Harvey was discovered in the creek that was swollen because of heavy rainfall.

The search included 60 people from sheriff’s office, the EOC, Leesburg Fire Department, Lake Harbor Fire Department, Flowood Police Department, Flowood Fire Department, Pearl Fire Department, Mississippi Fire Academy, Reservoir Fire Department and American Medical Response.
