The Indigo Girls, a popular music group, is among the latest group to offer their condolences and support for the family and friends of Meredith Emerson.

The group recently sent an e-mail to its fan list saying “We extend our deepest sympathy to the friends and family of Meredith Emerson, the 24-year old Atlanta resident who was tragically murdered in the North Georgia mountains.”

In the e-mail the group said it would be auctioning a, autographed sheet of handwritten lyrics to the song “Power of Two” on E-Bay. Proceeds from the auction, which ends on January 21, will benefit PAWS Atlanta, a no-kill animal shelter, in memory of Meredith Emerson.

If the weather holds for Sunday, the Meredith Emerson memorial hike in Blairsville is likely to be huge. It will be a time for hikers to take back their trails and remember Meredith in a way she would have loved.

There is a makeshift memorial on Blood Mountain in the spot where most hikers believe Meredith was taken prisoner by Gary Michael Hilton.

There are letters to her that are heart wrenching to read. The flowers laid there are wilting, but the memorial hike in Blairsville Sunday will likely show her memory is very much alive. The memorial hike for Meredith would have been on Blood Mountain. But Winton Porter of Mountains Crossings store who organized it quickly realized there was no room.

So, the memorial was moved to Meeks Park in Blairsville.

Jennifer Morse, the young woman who took the items found on the trail belonging to Meredith
to police said the brutality of this crime has changed her forever. She said she knows it could have been her.

And that's makes her hike now always looking over her shoulder.

Two little stickers have been made for hikers at Mountains Crossings -- one simply has the name Meredith with a heart, the other has a heart and the phrase Remember ME. Who could ever forget.

Sadly, I think this will be called because of the weather.
