Stokesdale, N.C. — Authorities issued a Silver Alert on Sunday morning for a 76-year-old Guilford County man believed be suffering from a cognitive impairment.
James Melvin Searcy was last seen at 9159 U.S. Highway 158 in Stokesdale, according to the Guilford County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators described Searcy as a black man, standing 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds. He has short, black hair and brown eyes.
Searcy was driving a gray 1997 Lincoln Town Car with state tag number YPP-8357. His direction of travel and destination were unknown.
He was last seen wearing a light blue, long-sleeved shirt and gray pants. He might have a black leather jacket.
Anyone with information about Searcy's whereabouts should call Cpl. N. Southern, with the Guilford County Sheriff's Office, at 336-641-3690.
Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.
It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
