WEST DEPTFORD TWP. -- The body of a woman, found near the Delaware River here, had been in the water at least since before March 8 -- the woman's Timex Ironman watch was still running, but did not reflect the change to daylight saving time.

Two boys playing near the river at the end of RiverWinds Drive found the body just before 5 p.m. on the shore, near the RiverWinds golf course and an amphitheater, partially covered with river debris such as wood and paper, authorities said.

The switch from Eastern Standard Time to Eastern Daylight Time occurred at 2 a.m. March 8.

The woman was in her mid-60s and was wearing New Balance 474 athletic shoes, leading investigators to believe she may have been out walking near the river and had perhaps suffered a heart attack.

No cause of death has been released yet, but the body showed no obvious signs of trauma injury.

The boys who spotted the woman notified a NJ Transit police officer they know, said authorities.

The woman was white and had brown-blond hair. She was 5-feet, 8-inches tall and weighed 197 pounds. She was wearing size 18 Eddie Bauer jeans and a cotton-knit sweater over a long-sleeve, three-button blouse.

She had a ball-shaped, clip-on earring on her left ear. X-rays taken of her body showed she'd had surgery to her left leg tibia and fibula and that a plate and three screws were in place.

Authorities are working on a sketch of the woman.

Anyone with information about a missing person matching the woman's description is asked to contact either Investigator John Chambers of the West Deptford police department at (856) 625-7439 or (856) 853-4599, ext 168; Detective Robert Hemphill of the GCPO major crimes unit at (856) 384-5500 or Sgt. Jack Donegan of the New Jersey State Police missing persons unit at (609) 882-2000, ext 2554.

Police identify body of woman found near Delaware River as that of Philadelphia jumper
Wednesday April 08, 2009, 12:37 PM
WEST DEPTFORD TWP. -- The body of a woman found near the Delaware River over the weekend has been identified as that of a 61-year-old Chester, Pa. woman who is believed to have jumped from a Philadelphia bridge late last year.

A member of the Philadelphia Police Department's marine unit contacted the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office after reading a media account of the discovery, according to authorities.

Police in Philadelphia had received a call from a passerby who found a purse near the Walnut Street bridge on Dec. 26. Inside was identification and a suicide note. The Schuylkill River, which runs under the bridge, flows into the Delaware River.

Detectives from the prosecutor's office and West Deptford Police Department used medical and dental records to identify the woman. The investigators were also able to locate and notify a brother of the woman in Ohio.

Two boys playing near the river at the end of RiverWinds Drive in West Deptford made the discovery on Sunday.

The woman was clothed and wearing a watch that still worked. It had not been changed for daylight saving time, which led police to believe she had been in the water since at least early March.

An autopsy conducted on Monday by the Gloucester County Medical Examiner's Office concluded the woman drowned and that suicide was the manner of death.

You'd think there would be a missing person report out for her.

You'd think there would be a missing person report out for her.

Quite possibly, since the article said her brother was contacted in Ohio that he was the only family. She jumped the day after X-Mas, maybe they were estranged and she was a loner with no one that actually cared enuf to notice she was gone, or she told friends she was moving to Ohio. All speculation of course but she must have been in a lot of personal pain to do that over the holidays but the holidays are extremely depressing for alot of people and the suicide rate jumps that time of the year.

RIP ~ your pain is over. :1222423:
