Del. man allegedly drives 12-year-old to Florida

BRIDGEVILLE, Del. (AP) Delaware State Police say a 19-year-old man living with a Bridgeville family helped their 12-year-old daughter run away to Florida.

Police have charged Jose Reyes-Castro with kidnapping and endangering a child.

On Friday, police say the girl didn't go to school and was seen with Reyes-Castro Saturday morning in Bridgeville. On Sunday, the girl called her family to say she was safe and police tracked the cell phone to a Candor, N.C. man.

The man who lent the cell phone to the girl told police Reyes-Castro was driving a Ford Explorer with Delaware plates toward Florida. They were stopped at a gas station in south Georgia near the Florida state line when the girl called her family.

Police say there is no evidence the man wants to hurt the girl.

Teen charged with driving runaway to FL
By Frank Gerace

Warrants are out for a Bridgeville teen State Police say helped a 12-year-old girl run away from home by driving her to Florida in a stolen SUV.

Police say 19-year-old Jose Reyes-Castro had been living with Nathaly Alonzo's family for 6 months, and the two headed south last weekend in a Ford Explorer Reyes-Castro stole from a friend in Laurel.

Alonzo called her family Sunday to let them know she was OK, and investigators traced the call to a cell phone she borrowed from a North Carolina man while she and Reyes-Castro were at a Georgia gas station.

The man who let Alonzo use his phone told police she and Reyes-Castro seemed content, and were headed to Florida in the Explorer, which has Delaware license number P-C-5-5-9-2-1.

Police don't think Reyes-Castro wants to harm Alonzo, but he's facing charges including kidnapping, interfering with custody and child endangerment.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the two can call Troop 5 or Crimestoppers.

Police seeking Bridgeville man for helping 12-year-old runaway leave the state

BRIDGEVILLE, DEL. -
The Delaware State Police have obtained arrest warrants for Jose Nedar Reyes-Castro, 19, formerly of Bridgeville, for his role in assisting a 12-year-old runaway from returning home.

The investigation began after Nathaly Alonzo, 12, of Lilly Meadow Drive, in Bridgeville, did not return home from school on March 26.

As police began the investigation, they learned that Alonzo did not go to school that day and voluntarily left her home with a housemate, Jose Nedar Reyes-Castro.

Reyes-Castro had been staying with the family for six months.

Police had spoken to family members that informed detectives that the pair was seen together on March 27 at 11 a.m. at a separate family member’s house in Bridgeville. Additionally, on Sunday Alonzo called her family to let them know she was okay.

Detectives were able to obtain the cell phone number that she called on and traced the number to a person in Candor, N.C. This person was contacted and he informed investigators that Reyes-Castro and Alonzo asked to borrow his cellular phone while they were at a local gas station in Georgia just north of the Florida state line. The man also informed police that the pair seemed content and they were heading to Florida. He further advised they were driving a Ford Explorer.

Detectives also learned that Reyes-Castro had obtained the Ford Explorer from a friend in Laurel on Friday and failed to return it to her. The registration number on the vehicle is PC55921

Because of this information the state police after consultation from the Attorney Generals Office obtained arrest warrants today for Reyes-Castro for second-degree kidnapping, interference with custody, endangering the welfare of a child and theft of a motor vehicle.

Police added that, during the investigation, they have found no evidence that Reyes-Castro wants to harm Alonzo.

Alonzo has also been listed as an active missing juvenile and entered into local and national databases indicating same. Anyone having information on their whereabouts is urged to call detectives at Troop 5 at 302-337-1090 or Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333.
