Search Is On For Missing Atlanta Man
Updated 4/8/2009 5:34:17 AM
ATLANTA -- The search is on for a missing Atlanta man whom police fear may be in serious trouble. Brandon Patton, 28, was set to travel to Florida over the weekend but never made it.

For every day that passes, the search for Patton grows more intense. Last seen April 3 at the Buckhead home he shares with his mother, Atlanta police have officially declared him missing and there's strong suspicion he may now be a victim of foul play. It's as if he disappeared without a trace.
"It's just so uncharacteristic of my son to just to go off," said his mother, Deborah Patton.
His second home was an Atlanta catering business. He served as executive chef, garnering wide acclaim for his culinary skills.
His boss says co-workers expected to see him Thursday. But Patton never made it in that day or the next.
"When he wasn't here Friday morning, for us to transition for his vacation to start this week, I became highly alarmed, because that's way out of character," said Craig Fitch of Metro Catering.
Family members say he was just days away from a highly anticipated visit with his daughter Madison who lives in Tampa. No one is quite sure if he ever took to the interstate -- all cell phone calls go straight to voicemail, all e-mails, left unanswered.
Patton's pride and joy was his daughter. He reportedly just received his tax refund worth thousands of dollars and was going to give that money to her mother. Could he have been a victim of robbery? That question and so many more plague the people who love him most.
Police say Patton may be driving a gold 1997 Chevy S-10 pickup truck with Georgia tag ATL-9105. Anyone who has any information is asked to call 911.

This was on the local news (11 Alive - NBC) this morning and they had a MAJOR screw up. All I heard was missing and turned my head to see a picture of Brandon. But underneath his picture they had the title for the NEXT story that said "search for rape suspect". How horrifying is that? I have not seen the news since this morning........I am hoping they appologized and corrected!
I hope he did not meet a fate with escapee Yancy. ???? I have not had a chance to look at the timeline.

This case upset me something terrible. I saw the local news screw up on this one. WTH? The family is going through enough of pain as it is.
I sure hope this guy has not met up with foul play. It is just not safe for anyone to get on the road alone.
Praying hard on this one.

Atlanta man, en route to Tampa, missing
Brandon Patton was supposed to arrive in Hillsborough County this past weekend to see his 3-year-old daughter and take her back home to Atlanta for a visit but he hasn't been heard from since Thursday.

TAMPA - Brandon Patton was supposed to arrive in Hillsborough County this past weekend to see his 3-year-old daughter and take her back home to Atlanta for a visit.
He never showed, and his family isn't sure where he could be.
Today, someone in Lakeland spotted what might be Patton's truck, Patton's mother said. A tag number jotted down at the scene matched the tag number of Patton's vehicle, Patton's family said. His mother said Lakeland police have been alerted about the truck.
Patton's mother said she previously had filled out a missing person's report in Atlanta and alerted law enforcement in Florida and Georgia.
"We became very alarmed when he didn't show up because this is not at all like him to take off and disappear and not call or get in touch," Debra Patton said.
She last spoke with her son Thursday night. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
Brandon Patton, a 28-year-old executive chef, was slated to stop by work Friday morning, then leave Atlanta and arrive in Hillsborough County sometime Saturday.
He and his daughter, Madison Patton, were going to go camping and then travel to his brother's home in Jacksonville before riding to Atlanta.
Patton never came by his Atlanta job. His family didn't worry until he didn't arrive in the Tampa area Saturday.
Debra Patton said she has no idea what might have happened to her son.
His family tried him on his two cell phones and also sent him an e-mail. Messages have not been returned.
"We just know that he was carrying a large sum of money; he had just gotten his income tax check, he was bringing part of that cash down here to give to Madison's mom, Carol," Debra Patton said.
Patton was supposed to travel to Tampa in a gold-ish tan 1997 Chevrolet pickup with a license plate of ATL9105.
Those who know information about Patton's whereabouts are asked to e-mail his family at carol4984@gmail.com.

Missing Man's Friend: 'It's Like He Vanished'

Updated: 8:32 pm EDT April 8, 2009
ATLANTA -- The family of a missing Buckhead man is hoping a sighting of his truck is the break they need to help find him. But the family said they are also worried about what they learned Wednesday afternoon.
Channel 2 Action News reporter Joyce Oscar got the news of the development from Brandon Patton’s family.
The family said a man saw Patton's truck in Lakeland, Fla., but Patton wasn't driving it.
"Some bad things may have happened, so we're scared," said Patton's uncle, Tom Johnston.
Brandon Hamilton Patton's family said the new information they received about the 28-year-old man's vehicle is making them even more worried. The family said Patton's gold 1997 Chevy S-10 pickup truck was spotted in Lakeland, Fla. with two men inside -- but the description of the men did not match Patton.
"He was headed in that direction but we don't know if he was with the vehicle or not, so that's the scary part about it," said Johnston.
"We've got a lot of people who love him, a lot of people looking for him, and it's like he vanished," said Patton's supervisor Craig Fitch with Metro Catering.
Fitch said the young chef had planned to stop by the office of Metro Catering, where pictures of his culinary creations cover the walls, early last Friday morning and then drive to Tampa, Fla. to spend time with his 3-year-old daughter. He never made it.
"It's totally out of character. He was supposed to start vacation the beginning of this week, didn't show up for work on Friday for us to go over everything he was handling, and transition into his vacation, and he never showed up at his daughter's," said Fitch.
Patton was last seen at the Buckhead condo he shares with his mother on Lenox Road April 2.
"He could still be up here somewhere, he could be a John Doe in a hospital, we don't know," said Johnston.
The Atlanta Police Department is investigating. Police said they are treating the case as a missing persons case.

Missing Man's Truck Spotted In Florida
Updated 4/9/2009 12:05:45 AM
ATLANTA -- Police in Florida said on Wednesday that a truck belonging to Brandon Patton, missing from Atlanta, has been spotted in Lakeland, Fla. But the circumstances make his disappearance even more bizarre.
This is now a missing persons investigation that spans across two states -- but Patton is nowhere to be found. Police said his 1997 Chevy pickup truck was spotted by a man and his fiancé.
The truck is tan and has Georgia tags. The man who saw the truck said two men were in it selling meat in a Lakeland neighborhood over the weekend.
In a police report, Glenn Hicks of Lakeland said neither of the men he saw was Patton -- whose picture he had seen in earlier news reports. Police said they are seriously investigating this new development.
Friends and co-workers of Patton's at Metro Catering of Atlanta continue to have concerns about their missing friend.
Fellow chef Paul Kerr says the mood is so thick you can cut it with a knife. Things at this point just aren't adding up -- Kerr was the last known person to talk with Patton in Atlanta.
"He said he was running behind, he couldn't find his phone, and he said he 'd be in by 8 -- and that's the last I heard of Brandon," Kerr said.
So the questions remain -- who were the men trying to sell meat from a cooler in the truck? Did that cooler belong to Brandon Patton?
No one is giving up on the 28-year-old Atlanta executive chef being found alive. A missing persons' flyer with his picture on it is still being circulated nationwide. The hope is that he will soon surface safe and sound.
Police have not yet put out an exact description of the two men seen riding in the truck. While they seek to know who they are, the focus remains on finding Patton so he can be reunited with family and friends -- especially the daughter he set out to see.

Mystery Deepens for Missing Chef
Search Continues for David Patton
Last Edited: Thursday, 09 Apr 2009, 5:31 AM EDT
Created On: Wednesday, 08 Apr 2009, 9:39 PM EDT
ATLANTA (MyFOX ATLANTA) - The search continues Thursday morning for an Atlanta chef who hasn't been seen in nearly a week. Family members say David Patton vanished Friday while heading to Tampa to visit his 4-year-old daughter.
Friends say what makes Brandon Patton's disappearance so out of character and so disturbing is that Patton would never miss a visit with his daughter.
Brandon Patton was last seen Friday, April 3 around 6:00 a.m. in his Atlanta home. Patton's family said Patton drove to Tampa, Florida on Friday to visit his 4-year-old daughter, but never arrived.
Before his trip, Patton said he was going to stop at work to check to see if his cell phone was there. However, Patton was never seen at work.
The mystery would only deepen the next day Patton's pick-up was discovered in Lakeland, Florida. Two men were selling meat out of the truck bed, but Patton was nowhere to be found.
"I really don't know what to make of that honestly. I've never known him to sell meat," said Patton's friend Jeremy Criswell.
Lakeland resident Glenn Hicks noticed the truck and its Atlanta tags and alerted the police.
"I thought it was odd -- an Atlanta tag on a pick-up selling meat out of two-by-fours. And I knew that something wasn't right," said Hicks.
Patton's mother, Debra, has joined the search for her son. She's in Florida trying to retrace his steps.
"I just know something has happened. I don't want to think the worst obviously," said Debra Patton.
According to his family, Patton is a chef for an Atlanta catering company and a devoted father who adores his little girl.
They are praying for his safe return and like police in Atlanta and Florida are searching for answers about his disturbing disappearance.
"He has always had angels watching over him. I mean he is a very lucky man; he always comes out on top," said ex-fiancé Carol Bennett.
Investigators said Patton had misplaced the phone a few days earlier, which makes him even more difficult to trace.

Missing Chef's Truck Found
By Jon Lewis @ April 9, 2009 7:10 AM
(WSB Radio) The family of a missing Atlanta chef is hoping the public can help find him.
They're handing out flyers in hopes that someone knows what happened to Brandon Patton, who vanished a week ago today.
"It feels like every news we get is not good news," says Patton's uncle, Tom Johnston. "Some bad things may have happened so we're scared."
Patton was getting ready to head to Tampa to vacation with his three year old daughter. His 1997 Chevy S-10 pickup has been found in Lakeland, Florida. Two strangers were inside when it was discovered.
"He was heading in that direction, but we don't know if he was with the vehicle or not," Johnston says. "That's the scary part about it."
Atlanta police say they are following leads, but say that, right now, they're treating it as a missing persons case.

Missing chef's truck turns up in Polk

LAKELAND - Brandon Patton had plans to take his little girl Madison to the beach over the weekend, but ex-fiance Carol Bennett says he never showed up.
"Saturday night I knew something was wrong, my gut check has always been something is wrong, " Bennett said.
Brandon, who lives in Atlanta was on his way to Tampa for his monthly visit with his 3-year-old, but somewhere along the way he went missing.
Brandon's mother, Debra Patton, says her son is an executive chef in Georgia and makes it a habit to stay in touch with his family at all times.
"It's just too suspicious not to think some foul play has occurred, " Patton said.
Glenn Hicks caught media reports of Patton's disappearance and a short time later spotted his gold 1997 Chevy truck in Lakeland, but the 28-year-old wasn't in it. Instead, Hicks said there were two men inside who tried to sell him packaged meat.
"We never seen no weapons. They were both polite. The man was sharp dress[ed] business men. What I thought was odd was the Atlanta tags in a pickup selling meat. I knew something wasn't right, but I never figured this," Hicks said.
Lakeland police are now working with Atlanta authorities on Patton's disappearance, but so far no leads on where the Atlanta father may be.
Meanwhile Patton's family is hopeful he is alive and unable to reach out.
"God, please just let him be alive. Let him be okay, " Debra Patton said.

Missing Atlanta man's truck seen in Lakeland
Published: April 9, 2009
The suspicious behavior of people selling meat out of a truck's bed in Lakeland Wednesday morning led a person to jot down the vehicle's tag number.
The person later contacted police after seeing a news report about Brandon Patton, a missing Atlanta man. The tag number matched the tag number of Patton's missing truck, Lakeland police say.
An investigation into Patton's disappearance continues.
Debra Patton said today that she hasn't heard anything new about her son since learning about the person who might have seen the truck 9:15 a.m. Wednesday in the 900 block of Vistabula Street in Lakeland.
Brandon Patton, a 28-year-old executive chef, was slated to stop by work Friday morning, leave Atlanta and arrive in Hillsborough County sometime Saturday. He and his 3-year-old daughter, Madison Patton, were going to go camping and then travel to his brother's home in Jacksonville before riding to Atlanta.
Patton never came by his Atlanta job. His family didn't worry until he didn't arrive in the Tampa area Saturday.
Debra Patton said she has no idea what might have happened to her son.
His family tried him on his two cell phones and also sent him an e-mail. Messages have not been returned.
"We just know that he was carrying a large sum of money; he had just gotten his income tax check, he was bringing part of that cash down here to give to Madison's mom, Carol," Debra Patton said Wednesday.
Patton was supposed to travel to Tampa in a gold-ish tan 1997 Chevrolet S-10 pickup with a license plate of ATL-9105.
Those who know information about Patton's whereabouts are asked to e-mail his family at carol4984@gmail.com.

Police Searching For Missing Man
Father Vanishes On Way To See Daughter
POSTED: 10:45 am EDT April 9, 2009
UPDATED: 10:54 am EDT April 9, 2009
ATLANTA -- A father vanished while on his way to see his little girl.
His family is desperate after six days with no word from him.
Brandon Patton was traveling from Buckhead to Tampa to see his 3-year-old daughter, but never made it there.
A tip came in Wednesday that police hope will help them find this missing father.
Brandon's truck was seen in central Florida on Saturday with two men.
His family hopes this new lead will help locate their loved one.
Deborah: “I'm scared for my son and what might of happened,” said Brandon’s mother Deborah Patton.
Brandon was heading to Tampa to take his 3-year-old daughter Madison camping, but he never made it.
Glen Hicks in Lakeland, Florida is providing the first break in the missing person case.
On Saturday two men approached him at his home asking if he wanted to buy some meat out of the back of a pick-up.
“In 3 minutes time they went from $399 for the 2 cases to $120 and then as he's packing it up, he said, “Just make me an offer,’” said Hicks.
Suspicious, Hicks wrote down the plate number.
The men were in Patton's 1997 tan or gold Chevy S-10 with Georgia plate number ATL9105.
“They seemed real nervous, they seemed real nervous,” said Hicks.
That worries Brandon's boss Craig Fitch. He's the owner of metro Atlanta catering where Brandon is the executive chef.
Fitch says Brandon still hasn't cashed his paycheck from March 31st.
“More than anything else, he could blow off everything else in life but not his daughter,” said Fitch. “That's his whole life.”
Madison's mom says disappearing is totally out of character for Brandon.
“I just hope I don't have to tell her something happened to her daddy. I just hope I don't have to tell her that,” said Carol.
Brandon's boss thinks he may not have ever gotten out of Atlanta. He didn't show up to work on Friday or to pick up his camping gear.
Atlanta police are still treating this as a missing person case.
Brandon's family created a Myspace page to help find him. You can check out http://www.myspace.com/465517899.

Men Spotted Selling Frozen Food Out Of Missing Man's Truck
Posted: 5:15 pm EDT April 9, 2009
Updated: 5:47 pm EDT April 9, 2009
ATLANTA -- Channel 2 Action News reporter Eric Philips went to Atlanta Police Headquarters Thursday to find out the latest on a missing Atlanta man. Police said they have issued a BOLO – a be out on the lookout – for 28-year-old Buckhead resident, Brandon Patton, across the southeast. He has been missing since April 2.
Police said they are trying to piece together the whereabouts of Patton.
Last Friday, Patton was heading from Atlanta to Tampa, Fla. to see his 3-year-old daughter, Madison. Patton never made it.
Authorities in Florida said there have been three alleged sightings of Patton’s truck, but he has not been seen inside.
“Possibly two to three white males that were seen in the truck that were selling some type of frozen food, frozen goods out of the truck," said Otis Redmond with the Atlanta Police Department.
“Certainly we’re glad they found the truck, but not under the circumstances," said Patton's uncle, Tom Johnston.
Glenn Hicks is one of the people who spotted the truck and wrote down the tag number. It matched the tag on Patton’s gold 1997 Chevy pickup truck.
"It all fit...the truck, the tag," said Hicks.
Patton’s family said they are worried because the budding chef at Metro Catering loved his family and adored his daughter. His mother said this is just not like him.
“As each day goes by, we become more and more concerned,” said his mother, Debra Patton.
After Patton disappeared, his mother drove from Atlanta to Tampa, stopping at rest stops along the way in the hopes of finding him. Police continue to investigate.

Missing Atlanta man’s truck spotted in Florida
By ALEXIS STEVENS
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Thursday, April 09, 2009
When Brandon Patton didn’t show up for work in Atlanta last Friday, his boss knew something was wrong.
When the executive chef for a catering company hadn’t shown up at his 3-year-old daughter’s home in Tampa by Saturday evening, his family and friends got very concerned.
Nearly a week later, Patton’s whereabouts are still unknown. But his truck, a 1997 Chevy S-10, may have been spotted in Florida.
A man in Lakeland wrote down the license plate number of a truck after he saw two men attempting to sell meat from a freezer on Saturday. That tag number belonged to Patton’s truck. Neither of the men matched his description, police say.
Patton, 28, had planned to spend this week with his daughter Madison, camping at parks near her Tampa home. But he never showed up, something those close to him say is out of character.
Patton’s former fiance, Carol Bennett, expected him to arrive some time Saturday. When he didn’t, she called his mother, Deborah, with whom he shares a condo in Buckhead.
Sunday, the two filed a missing persons case with Atlanta police.
An executive chef, Patton was due at work Friday morning. That night, he was supposed to stop by the home of his boss, Craig Fitch, to borrow camping gear.
“None of it really adds up at all,” Fitch said Thursday.
Fitch and other friends will hand out fliers Friday night in Buckhead and around the Virginia-Highland area. “At this point we think something absolutely terrible has happened,” Bennett said. “There is nothing that would stop him from getting here.”

This doesn't sound good at all. I hope we have an update soon.

ATLANTA -- A truck, believed to be owned by an executive chef missing from Atlanta, has been spotted in two more locations in Florida, but there's no sign of him.
Brandon Patton, 28, has not been seen for the last week, yet police continue to receive new leads about his gold or tan-colored Chevy S-10 pickup truck.
"With us actively looking into those leads where the vehicle's being spotted, that definitely has given investigators some type of insight on how to hound in on the location of Mr. Patton ," said Atlanta Police Officer Otis Redmond.
What's believed to be Patton's truck was spotted around a handful of Florida cities -- Plant City on April 2, Lakeland on April 4, and Winter Haven four days later. In each instance though, no sign of the missing Atlanta man who never made it to see his 3-year-old daughter Madison in Tampa last week.
"This has been really hard on our family," said Patton's uncle Patrick Hall. "We don't have any answers."
Police have not changed the status of the missing person's case because they haven't been able to confirm any of the sightings as definitely being Patton's truck. They're looking into a number of things but tracking the master chef's movements is difficult.
In addition to losing his cell phone, family members say he recently closed his bank account and he may be carrying a large amount of cash from an IRS tax return. His last paycheck received from his job in Atlanta still hasn't been cashed.
And after 11Alive News checked his MySpace page -- it even shows someone, possibly him, last logged in on April 7 -- days after he was reported missing. Hall, an avid motorcyclist, is among many across two states helping to get word out on his missing loved one.
With no definite answers and with time against them, no friend of Brandon Patton wants his missing persons case to get cold.

BOLO Issued for Chef
By Jon Lewis @ April 10, 2009 7:09 AM
(WSB Radio) Atlanta police have issued a "be on the lookout" or BOLO alert for an Atlanta chef who has been missing for more than a week.
Police are looking into a report that 28 year old Brandon Patton's truck has been spotted three times in Florida.
"Possibly two to three white males were seen inside the truck," says the APD's Otis Redmond, "that were selling some type of frozen goods out of the truck."
A would-be customer thought the men were acting strangely and copied down the license plate of the truck. It matched Patton's.
Patton was heading to Tampa to visit his daughter when he vanished last week.

Sorry I do not know how to attach a video yet.
There is a video (must be updated) compared to the 4/10 article @ same link.
Video states that he has cashed his paycheck. Police DO believe HE has cashed it - not someone else, but would not elaborate. (Possible bank video surveilance?)
IMO, sure appears he left on his own accord.....
No cell phone (misplaced)
Closed bank account (week before)
Truck has been spotted 3xs (although he has not been identified as an occupant)
$4000. cash (Tx Refund)
But not showing up for his daughter is what baffles me. Of course daddies have a very different mindset than mommies - totally my personal opinion!

update
Update in Missing man from Atlanta.
Here goes….
Every day that passes, this case gets more and more bizarre. I need your help, I’m begging for your help. I need Madison’s daddy home; I need my friend to be safe. Madison said yesterday “I don’t have a Daddy!” This breaks my heart. I’m hanging on by a thread. He Can’t be, just on vacation.
Brandon was due back from his vacation to report to work at Metro Catering of Atlanta, today. Still NO Brandon. In the off Chance he needed a personal vacation. Today was judgment day. The vacation theory is now definitely not even a consideration in my mind because he would have shown up to work today.
In refance to the Crabby Bills Tip. St Pete Beach police has seen the Tape and it should be in process to the Atlanta Detectives. St Pete beach police say it looks like him. Do they know for sure? I won’t be convinced until I see them. The manager from Crabby Bills told me he’d email me the tape days ago and the manager has been dragging his feet and I have not see the video. Maybe there is a guy who looks like Brandon and this woman is trying to help. I had a Crabby Bill’s Hat on the entire day before this tip came in. Every interview that I did that day, I was in that hat. Hummmm!
Next, Brandon’s paycheck
His check was stamped cashed on Monday. It may have sat in a safe all weekend so when it was cashed is still unknown. Where it was cashed, they are saying they don’t cash payroll checks. Odd!
Brandon does not have his IRS refund check. I spoke with tax lady and she could not file it until she had Madison’s SS #. It was set up as a fast return, meaning he would get it in 24 – 48 hours and she has his Bank information. Now I’m thinking he was going to just get the number from me while he was down here in Tampa. As you know he was going to give me a portion of the return. Another reason he should have been here.
The Bank account and Cell phones.
He was upset with bank of America because they made several bank errors and charged him overdraft fees for his checking account rather than transfer fees from savings. He had overdraft protection. He set it up twice. As far as I know he pulled the funds from the account but did not close the account. If he had where would his IRS check go? Plus, I spoke with the bank and NO activity. Never did they mention it was closed. I talk to him all the time and this stuff happened in the beginning of March.
His Business phone was lost. NO ONE has any idea where his personal phone is or if he has it. His MOM has no idea she is speculating. She can’t help it; she’s really having a difficult time. His voice mailbox on his personal cell is full and we can no longer leave messages on it. Atlanta has a court order on his phone records and I’m not sure if they have them back yet. His records will prove that phone call at Crabby Bill’s.
His Mother has returned to Atlanta as of Sunday
someone knows where he is

TAMPA - Did Brandon Patton meet up with foul play on his way to Tampa, or did the 27-year-old Atlanta father vanish on his own?
Carol Bennett is the mother of Brandon's 3-year-old daughter Madison. For over a week, she has been desperately searching for Brandon, worried something terrible had happened.
But now surveillance photos obtained by FOX 13 raise more puzzling questions about Brandon's disappearance.
"I have no idea. All I know is he wouldn't miss Madison's visit. It wouldn't happen," said Bennett.
The photos appear to show Brandon Patton walking into Crabby Bill's Restaurant in St. Pete Beach on Monday, April 6 -- three days after he failed to show up for an outing with his daughter Madison.
Carol says a woman called police and reported meeting a man matching Brandon's description at the restaurant bar Monday evening. He even gave the tipster a cell phone number that police confirm belonged to the missing man.
"In her words exactly, she said he talked about Madison like she was gold and he was here to see her," Bennett continued. "So where is he? It's a mystery."
Brandon, who is an executive chef in Atlanta, was on his way to Tampa to visit his daughter, but somewhere along the way, he disappeared.
The weekend of Brandon's disappearance, Glenn Hicks believes, he saw Brandon's 1997 Chevy pickup with Georgia tags in Lakeland, but Brandon was nowhere in sight. Instead, Glenn says two well-dressed men tried to sell him packaged meat.
But now Carol is left wondering if Madison father is running scared for some unknown reason, or has met some horrible fate.
The family is offering a $1,000 reward for Brandon's safe return.

New Lead in Missing Chef Case
By Jon Lewis
@ April 13, 2009 6:42 AM
(WSB Radio) A Florida woman has come forward to say she had a conversation with a missing Atlanta chef at a bar in St. Petersburg.
Atlanta police investigating the week-long disappearance of executive chef Brandon Patton have requested security video from Crabby Bill's, a beachside restaurant where the woman says she and Patton talked on Monday, April 6th.
Patton's family is inclined to believe the woman's story because she said they exchanged cell phone numbers and police in Florida confirm the woman did have Patton's cell number. Patton's mother, Debra Patton, tells Channel 2 Action News "I am hoping that was true because it's a lead, y'know. It's something we can be on the lookout for."
Patton hasn't been seen since he told family members on April 2nd that he was going to Tampa for a week to spend time with his 3-year-old daughter. He never arrived at the home of the little girl's mother and his truck was spotted on April 4th in Lakeland, Florida.

Video Shows Missing Man At Fla. Restaurant
Posted: 2:20 pm EDT April 14, 2009
Updated: 3:42 pm EDT April 14, 2009
ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Police Department confirmed to Channel 2 Action News Tuesday that the family of a missing Buckhead family has positively identified Brandon Patton from a video taken April 6.
Officer J. Polite with the Atlanta Police Department said, "The Atlanta Police Department Missing Persons Unit with the assistance of family members have made a positive visual identification (VIDEO) on Mr. Brandon Hamilton Patton. At the time of the sighting he appeared to be under no duress or in any immediate danger."
Channel 2 Action News learned Monday that witnesses continue to report possible sightings of a missing Atlanta chef. Patton, 28, was last seen by his family April 2, but a woman said she spoke with him at a Florida restaurant after that.
"This is totally out of character for Brandon," said Patton's uncle, Tom Johnston.
Patton's family confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that a woman said she spoke with Patton in St. Petersburg, Fla. recently. The woman told Patton's family and police she spoke with him at Crabby Bill's restaurant April 6.
"From what I understand, he talked in length about his daughter...they exchanged numbers and the number he gave her was his cell phone number," said Johnston.
The Atlanta man never showed up for a planned visit with his 4-year-old daughter in Tampa, Fla. last weekend. His disappearance touched off a two-state search by his family and friends.
Channel 2 Action News was the first to report a sighting of Patton's truck April 4 in Lakeland, Fla. with two men inside. Neither man matched Patton's description.
Now his family is dealing with the new development two days after the truck sighting and 100 miles away at a beachside restaurant.
Carol Bennett is the mother of Patton's child. "We have a beautiful little girl that we both love. She's the light of both of our lives," said Bennett.
Police said the woman who spoke with Patton is cooperating with the investigation.
Patton's family said a bartender at the restaurant backed up the woman's story.

Possible sightings of missing man
Tue, 04/14/2009 - 4:43pm
Questions have arisen over possible sightings of Fayetteville’s Hollingsworth House chef Brandon Patton, missing since April 2 when he left his Atlanta home to visit his 3-year-old daughter in Tampa.
Channel 2 Action News reported Monday that a woman said she spoke with Patton on April 6 at Crabby Bill’s Restaurant in St. Petersburg. The TV news also reported April 4 that his truck had been seen in Lakeland, Fla., with two men inside, though neither man matched Patton’s description.
A former Fayette County resident now living in Atlanta, 28-year-old Patton began the journey to pick up his young daughter from her mother’s home in Tampa, said Hollingsworth House co-owner Belinda Fitch. The father and daughter were to go on vacation, Fitch said.
Patton has worked for two years as executive chef at the Hollingsworth House in Fayetteville.
Fitch said late last week that there had been sightings of Patton’s gold Chevy S-10 pick-up truck, but neither he or the truck had been located. The vehicle’s Georgia license number is ATL 9015.
Anyone with information relating to Patton’s disappearance is asked to contact Atlanta Police Department’s Adult Missing Person’s Squad at 404-853-4235 ext. 45614.
The family has also set up an email address where tips can be sent at HelpFindBrandon@gmail.com.

This is puzzling that he appears to be okay on the tape but maybe he isn't. And that business about seeing two men selling meat out of his vehicle doesn't seem right at all. Hope they can get to the bottom of this soon.

Police stop search for missing chef after Fla. sighting
By Jeffry Scott
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Wednesday, April 15, 2009
The family of Brandon Patton is still worried about his whereabouts, but on Tuesday the Atlanta Police Department said it had stopped searching for the missing Atlanta chef.
Patton was last seen by his family April 3, and his truck was seen the next day in Lakeland, Fla., in the possession of two men who were using it to sell meat door to door, according to a Lakeland police department spokesman.
Atlanta police said in a statement Tuesday the department is no longer the “lead agency” in the search after Patton’s family identified him from a surveillance video taken April 6 when he was a customer at a St. Pete Beach seafood restaurant.
“At the time of the sighting, he appeared to be under no duress or in any immediate danger,” Atlanta police spokesman James Polite said in a press release.
A spokesman for the St. Pete Beach Police department confirmed the department has taken on the case.
The video was discovered April 11 after the department got a call from someone who said they saw a man matching Patton’s description at Crabby Bill’s Seafood restaurant. The tape was retrieved by police, and family members confirmed his identity.
His ex-fiancee and mother of his 4-year-old daughter, Carol Bennett, said Tuesday she is not satisfied that Patton has been located and is out of harm’s way.
“We still think the police should be searching for him,” she said. “As far as we are concerned, he’s not been found.”

TAMPA - After disappearing on his way to Tampa, a missing Atlanta man has been found safe back in Georgia.
Brandon Patton's family had expected him in town to visit his daughter on April 3. But after he did not show up, they grew concerned.
The weekend of Patton's disappearance, a witness reported seeing Patton's 1997 Chevy pickup -- complete with Georgia tags -- in Lakeland, but the 27-year-old father of one was nowhere in sight.
Then surveillance photos obtained by FOX 13 appeared to show Patton walking into a Crabby Bill's Restaurant in St. Pete Beach on Monday, April 6.
Now, he has been located in the Atlanta area. Details are still scarce.

Missing man shows up at home, says he was dealing with issues
2009-04-17
Brandon Patton, a former Fayette County resident and executive chef at Fayetteville’s Hollingsworth House, is back at home.
Patton, 28, became the subject of a massive manhunt earlier this month when he failed to show up in Tampa to take his 3 year-old daughter on vacation.
Thursday, Patton told reporters that he went off on his own to deal with personal issues that he declined to describe.
Patton said he had no idea police and family and friends had launched a nationwide search for him, and said he regrets not telling someone that he was going to make the solo trip.
Patton was last seen in Atlanta on April 3 at the Buckhead home he shares with his mother.
Earlier this week, Florida authorities released surveillance photographs of Patton at a bar near St. Petersburg. Atlanta Police said the photographs showed Patton did not appear to be under any duress and called off their search.
Belinda and Craig Fitch, owners of the Hollingsworth’s House, became concerned with Patton failed to show up for work April 3 to clear up a few details before leaving for Tampa.
He was also supposed to pick up some camping gear from Belinda and Craig Fitch that night before heading to Tampa.
Fitch says she and her husband Craig have known Brandon for years, and refer to him as “one of the family.”
