AUGUSTA, Ga. — An Etowah man who went missing Wednesday was discovered in Augusta, Ga., on Friday morning after calling his family.
Police officials said David Albert Hayes was in good physical condition and is now safe.
A Silver Alert had been issued for 60-year-old Hayes, who was last seen at 796 Old Highway 64 in Etowah.
“He apparently thought he walked there,” said Capt. Charlie McDonald of the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office. “But that is obviously not the case.”
It is not known how Hayes ended up 170 miles away and crossed two state lines.
Police said Hayes may be suffering from dementia or other cognitive impairment.
Hayes managed to contact his family Friday morning from a Shell gas station in Augusta and the family drove to the area to pick him up.
