GREENWOOD, S.C. -- Greenwood police said a woman was found dead after she had been abducted from her job early Easter Sunday.
A warrant has been signed charging the woman's husband 29-year-old Jimmy Maurice Elmore with murder.
Elmore was still on the loose as of Sunday evening.
Chief Deputy Coroner Marcia Kelley identified the victim as 28-year-old Dietra Culbreath Elmore, of Greenwood.
An affidavit said Jimmy Elmore was seen on surveillance video from the Li'l Cricket convenience store on Reynolds Avenue.
Police said Dietra Elmore was at work at the Li'l Cricket when Jimmy Elmore forcefully abducted her.
Dietra Elmore's body was found a short time later on East Cambridge Avenue. Police said it appears Dietra Elmore tried to escape from Jimmy Elmore's moving car.
The affidavit states Dietra Elmore suffered what appeared to be stab wounds to her stomach and severe head trauma.
An autopsy is planned for Monday in Anderson.
An arrest warrant said police found Jimmy Elmore's car with his wife's blood inside.
"Especially on a special day like Easter, for something like this to happen, our prayers just go out to the family," said Sen. Floyd Nicolson. "I know her mother and her father. You know, my prayers just go out to the entire family."
Anyone with information on Jimmy Elmore's whereabouts should call Greenwood police at 864-942-8405.

How very sad that this woman lived in so much fear of her so called husband. It is beyond reason to me that someone would terrorize another person so badly and then kill them. I hope he is caught and put away for a long long time.

Police Say Man Suffered Single Gunshot Wound To Head

GREENWOOD, S.C. -- A Greenwood man wanted in connection with the killing of his wife Sunday was found dead Thursday morning of a gunshot wound.
The Greenwood Police Department said 29-year-old Jimmy Elmore was found in a home on Sumpter Court with a single gunshot wound to the head just before 7 a.m.
According to Capt. Chris Gray with the Greenwood Police Department, a call came in to the dispatch office at about 6:41 a.m. advising them that Elmore had suffered a gunshot wound.
Gray said officers believe the shooting Thursday occurred shortly before they were called.
Elmore was taken to Self Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Gray said that police had been searching for Elmore since early Sunday morning after his wife, Dietra, was kidnapped from her job at the Li'l Cricket store on Grace Street and her body was found on Cambridge Avenue.
Dietra Elmore died from a gunshot wound to the head after being run over by a vehicle, according to the Greenwood County Coroner's Office.
Police said Jimmy Elmore was captured on surveillance video taking Dietra Elmore from the convenience store.
Authorities said Jimmy Elmore's death is still under investigation.

Unfortunately, this happened in my hometown. I lived in the townhomes directly behind this convenience store in 2003 & 2004. Dietra worked there then. I remember her. She seemed sweet. I'm glad we know we don't have to worry about the murderer being loose. I figured he never left town! Such a nightmare for all involved: family, mutual friends of the couple. If only we understood why he snapped.
His myspace looked like might have been a gangsta or wanted to be.

My co-workers told me it was in the news that Jimmy had recently been released from serving time for assault with intent to kill... second charge!
He was too dangerous to be out on the streets.

I just saw his myspace page. He was a real jewel, wasn't he? I doubt he is rapping now. Thankfully they won't have to use our tax money on him and that sweet girls family may still get some peace.
My Pop that I have requested prayer for many time, and still needs prayer, is in that same hospital where they took him.

Who shot him? Did he shoot himself in the head and then have the ability to call police? Strange they dont say it was self inflicted anywhere. Not that I will be loosing sleep over the thought of him suffering a little before he went. :blondblush113268230
