Many are ending up in slaughterhouses or on back roads, left to die, because of overpopulation and expensive feed.

I'm sorry, but I can't read the link, rem. I can't even watch movies about horses anymore. Lost my love over a year ago, and it just isn't getting any better, although I know you're right, and there is a terible problem.

It was hard even finding hay for our other horses this year, and will be just as bad next year if we don't get a whole lot of rain in the south. But I could never abandon them, that's for sure.

Thank you, SS.

Rem, I didn't mean to hijack your thread, just to explain why I couldn't check out the link like I usually do if it concerns animals. I'd be glad to delete my post if you want me to.

Roamer, I was afraid you would have a hard time with this story..No need to delete your post. Here is a positive excerpt that you might find uplifting.

Some animal lovers are already taking pity on unwanted horses.

Upon moving to Kentucky last year, Christopher Takacs, 50, a guitar sales distributor from California, was so moved by the plight of an abandoned racehorse that he built a barn. In the last six months, Takacs, who had not owned a horse before, has taken in eight and set up an equine rescue center that he hopes will eventually house 40.
