Man pleads guilty in Jordanelle slaying
Apr. 22, 2009
Christopher T. Alvey, who will turn 20 next week, pleaded guilty to aggravated murder Wednesday in the Dec. 26 shooting death of Ashley Sparks, 22, at the Jordanelle Reservoir.
Alvey admitted to the shooting before 4th District Judge Derek P. Pullan as part of a plea deal. Under that agreement, he will testify in further proceedings and will provide details about the Wasatch County homicide.
Authorities say Joshua Binkerd, 22, may be a suspect in the case. He is jailed at the Utah State Prison for another crime.
Wasatch County Attorney Thomas Low told Pullan that his office would drop the weapons-enhancement charge against Alvey in exchange for the guilty plea.
Low told the judge Alvey should serve a sentence of 20 years to life at the Utah State Prison.
Pullan, however, could sentence Alvey to life without parole. Sentencing is scheduled for June 17.
