Birmingham police detectives solve a 25 year old homicide cold case.
The September 10, 1983 homicide of 67-year-old Gladys Burgess had gone cold after an extensive investigation. In August 2008, the case was reopened and Birmingham police detective Jody Jacobs began to review the case.
Once evidence was resubmitted for DNA testing, which included hair fibers found at the scene, investigators found a match.

Birmingham police chief A.C. Roper applauds the cold case division. "Our cold case detectives continue to work behind the scenes trying to solve every homicide that's occurred in this city. Regardless of how much time has passed, we owe it to the families to stay the course and never give up."
