In my neck of the woods, we have Quaker parrots, apparently cage escapees, who have discovered that building nests around electrical transformers can keep them warm during the long cold winters in this mountain region. Raiding dumpsters behind restuarants certainly keeps the little feathered creatures well fed during the half year long winters. The electric company, thinking the rather clever little birds might start a fire, decided to kill them all (they're muliplying in a climate they were never designed for) but people started trapping them, to save their lives, and have built substitute housing for them, basically 30 foot poles with a platform on top, building materials of twigs, and food as an incentive. The electric company is placing plastic sleeves around the transformers so the birds can't utilize the heat from the transformers to their benefit.
