'Very ugly' new Madeleine suspect

An artist's impression of a suspect in Madeleine's case has been released
An artist's impression has been drawn of the latest suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

The image shows a "very ugly" man who appeared to watch the apartment where the three-year-old's family was staying on the day before she vanished.

The McCann family were staying in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz when Madeleine went missing on 3 May, 2007.

Investigators have received hundreds of phone calls since the McCanns appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show in the US.

The latest image is based on the account of a British woman on holiday in Praia da Luz.

She said she saw the man, with pitted skin and a large nose, twice in the days before Madeleine's disappearance and told police he was "very ugly", about 5ft 10ins tall, slim and was wearing casual clothes, probably jeans.

Another two witnesses - a 12-year-old schoolgirl and a man from Cheshire - also reported seeing a man watching the McCanns' apartment in the days before Madeleine vanished.

They have not yet confirmed whether the person they saw was the same one depicted in the new artist's impression.

Meanwhile, retired British detectives believe five separate sightings of a suspicious man could help solve the mystery of Madeleine's disappearance.

Former detective inspector Dave Edgar, 52, and former detective sergeant Arthur Cowley, 57, are being employed by the McCanns to continue the search for their daughter.

The former policemen have examined thousands of pages from the official Portuguese case files, which were made public last July.

They have formed a theory based on several previously-unreported accounts along with two better-known sightings of a man carrying a child away from the flat on the night Madeleine vanished.

A computer-aged picture (right) shows how Madeleine (left) may look now
Their idea, revealed in a documentary to be broadcast on Channel 4 on Thursday, is that someone watched the McCanns' apartment for up to a week before Madeleine disappeared.

Mr Edgar said: "In my experience random just doesn't happen - someone just doesn't go in, a passer-by, and pick up a child and take it. These things are planned.

"There's three [witness accounts] of exactly the same location.

"I don't know what the Portuguese authorities have done to eliminate these people from the inquiry. So we've got to presume that they haven't done it and go with that.

"This offence happened in Praia da Luz. It's a very self-contained resort, and that's where I think the answer is."

The McCanns, from Rothley, Leicestershire, used their appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show to release a computer-aged picture of how their daughter may look now.

Madeleine's sixth birthday will be on Tuesday.

The recent calls made to the couple's private investigators include details of around 30 possible sightings of the missing girl, mostly in the US and Latin America but a few in Europe.

"In my experience random just doesn't happen - someone just doesn't go in, a passer-by, and pick up a child and take it. "
Dave Edgar, former detective inspector

And yet the McCann's were clueless, leaving their babies alone and unattended, night after night after night.

I hope they find Madeleine soon. God bless her.

Pock-marked ... artist's impressions of the 'unnerving' man seen loitering outside McCanns' apartment

The three witnesses

Witness 1: THE YOUNG MUM

SHE first saw the “unnerving” suspect loitering outside the holiday complex on April 29.
Three days later — the day before Maddie disappeared — she noticed him again near the McCanns’ apartment.
She said: “He appeared to be watching it. He was about 5ft 10in, slim build and casual clothes, probably jeans.”

Witness 2: THE SCHOOL GIRL

THE 12-year-old local was on her way to school on April 30 when she spotted the mystery man gazing at the holiday flat.
She remembers seeing him again at lunchtime on May 2.
The youngster said: “He was standing on the road opposite the Ocean Club and he was staring at the apartment.”

Witness 3: THE TOURIST

A BRITISH holidaymaker recalls seeing the man standing beside a wall near the complex on the morning of May 2 or May 3. A white van was on the opposite side of the road.
She said: “As I walked past him, I looked at him and, for a split second, we had eye contact.
But then he just carried on staring at the apartment.”

THREE witnesses saw a scary weirdo who may have been part of Maddie abduction (http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/maddie/article2416246.ece)

THREE witnesses saw a scary weirdo who may have masterminded the abduction of Madeleine McCann, it was revealed last night.

The ugly suspect, who has a big nose and thin pock-marked face, was seen watching the holiday apartment from which Maddie was snatched.

The chilling artist’s impressions were pieced together from statements made by the three to Portuguese police.
The sightings, said by one witness to be “unnerving,” were never linked by the cops.
But Maddie’s parents Kate and Gerry realised the significance of them as they ploughed through the 30,000 pages of police files about their daughter’s disappearance.
They told their private investigation team, who re-interviewed the witnesses and came up with the image.

Vanished ... Maddie dressed as a fairy in a home video to be screened in the documentary

Last night the McCanns’ spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “This man needs to be traced urgently.
“The witnesses did talk to the Portuguese police but it appears that nothing was done to find him. He is a vital part of the jigsaw.
Were you one of the witnesses? Do you know this man? If so callthenewsdesk on 0207 7824104
“Kate and Gerry believe the testimony is critically important but has not had the attention it deserves.”
The existence of the witnesses and the gawping weirdo will be highlighted in a Channel 4 documentary tonight entitled Cutting Edge: Madeleine Was Here.
It will also show for the first time a reconstruction of the night Maddie was taken from the apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on May 3, 2007 — just before her fourth birthday.
And it features the moment when Jane Tanner — one of the Tapas Seven who dined with Kate and Gerry on the night Maddie vanished — saw a man hurrying away from the Ocean Club flat with a little girl in his arms.
He is NOT the same man as the one in the artist’s impression, suggesting a team of kidnappers may have been at work.

Riddle ... suspect played by actor on TV

WITNESS ONE was a young mum on holiday in the resort, who twice saw the pock-marked suspect acting suspiciously.
The first time was around 8am on April 29 2007.
She said: “I was walking along the road with my daughter. I grabbed her hand and pulled her towards me because for some reason the man unnerved me.”
She next saw him the day before Maddie was snatched.
She said: “He was standing on the opposite side of the road to the apartment. I would describe him as very ugly, pitted skin with a large nose.”
WITNESS TWO was a 12-year-old girl who lives in Praia da Luz. She first saw the suspect on April 30 at 8.15am as she walked to a bus stop.
She said: “The man seemed to be looking at the balcony of the ground floor apartment. He was wearing a black jacket and leaning against the wall.”
She spotted him doing the same again at 12.25pm on May 2.
WITNESS THREE, a tourist from Cheshire, saw the suspect either on May 2 or May 3 at around 11.30am.
The woman, who was on holiday with her husband, said: “I paid particular attention to him because he appeared to be focused on watching the apartment block.”
http://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00797/SNN0705DA-380_797973a.jpgDistraught ... Kate and Gerry McCann

The McCanns believe Portuguese cops made no effort to find him.
In the documentary former detective inspector David Edgar, the private investigation chief, tells Kate he believes tracing the suspect is vital.
He talks about the sightings and says: “It’s got to be the same person.” He adds he is convinced the family was being watched.
The programme also reveals a family group from Ireland may have seen the man carrying a girl 40 minutes after he was spotted by Jane Tanner.
Mr Edgar says: “When the man saw the family he appeared furtive, veered off to one side and carried on walking. We need to find out who this person was.”
A statement made to Portuguese cops by the head of the family, Martin Smith, said: “The girl was about four. She looked like my granddaughter — blonde hair, pale white skin, typically British.
“The man didn’t look like a tourist. I can’t explain why. It was probably from his clothes.”
The documentary opens with a tearful Kate, 41, explaining publicly for the first time how she found her daughter gone.
Poignant

There is a poignant shot of Maddie’s bed, with her Cuddle Cat toy and pink “blankie” still on it.
http://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00798/MADDIE-380_798001a.jpgThen and now ... Maddie how she was and how
she would be age six

Kate says: “I knew straight away that she’d been taken.”
The mum also tells how she could not bear to go back to Portugal with Gerry to film the reconstruction. She says: “I think it’s actually going through the scenario of that night, seeing Gerry that distraught really and sobbing and on the floor.”
Towards the end of the programme Kate and Gerry, 40, are shown in America at the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children.
They are studying the recently-released image of how Maddie would look now aged six.
As they drive away from the centre Kate sobs and says: “It’s a very emotional thing really to see my daughter in a different way to how I can remember.”
Mr Mitchell last night revealed there had been 30 new possible sightings of Maddie since the McCanns appeared on Oprah Winfrey’s TV show in America on Monday.
The FindMadeleine hotline has been swamped by hundreds of calls and thousands have visited the Findmadeleine.com (http://www.findmadeleine.com/) website.

Madeleine documentary sparks renewed interest

9/5/2009

The disappearance of British toddler Madeleine McCann made headlines again this week following the showing of a documentary by Channel 4 on Thursday evening.
http://www.the-news.net/webimages/pictures/1009-2.jpg

The ‘Cutting Edge’ documentary, produced by Mentorn Media on behalf of Channel 4, gave an insight into how Kate and Gerry McCann have dealt with the disappearance of their daughter and how they have tried to create a normal life for the sake of Madeleine’s brother and sister, four-year-old twins Sean and Amelie. With the search now shelved by the Portuguese police - and no officers in Portugal or the UK dedicated to the case - the investigators (former police officers from the UK) spoke about their interest in a series of what they term “important sightings” in and around the Ocean Club complex, Praia da Luz, in the days leading up to May 3rd 2007, when Madeleine was reported as missing.
The documentary reconstructed events surrounding Madeleine’s disappearance using actors and based on testimony given to the Portuguese police as part of their investigations.
Clarence Mitchell, spokesman for the McCann family, told The Portugal News on Thursday that the recent television appearances and this latest documentary has generated enormous interest, with “Hundreds of calls being recorded, along with thousands of visits to the Find Madeleine website”. He added note has been made of “a number of possible sightings”, admitting though “this is normal whenever there is renewed interest in the case.”
In a related development, The Portugal News understands that the documentary will be shown in Portugal on Monday evening by private television station Sic. This came despite a tacit agreement having been made with rival channel TVI by producers.
But a decision by TVI to finance and show a documentary based on the book by former Portuguese PJ detective Gonçalo Amaral, pointing a finger of guilt to the parents of Madeleine McCann appears to have upset Kate and Gerry, leading to the rights for the show being negotiated with Sic.
The TVI documentary, which was also distributed by a national newspaper as a DVD last week, shows Amaral talking to viewers through the broadcast, repeating opinions stated in his book.
The Truth of the Lie, which was published last year, has not yet been printed in English, and anyone who decides to do so has been threatened with certain legal action.
To date, no lawsuits have been filed against Gonçalo Amaral either in Portugal or in Britain.
Last October, in the first interview granted by Amaral to an English-language publication, he told The Portugal News that he was actually hopeful legal action is taken against him.
“My book is based on facts. It could be a good occasion to take all the case files to court and compare what I wrote with that which is contained in the files”, he said.
Other legal action pending regarding the case includes one by workers who have been sacked at the Ocean Club resort who have confirmed they were seeking the services of a labour lawyer.
Their intention, according to the Correio da Manhã, is to file for damages based on the fact that “lies told by Kate and Gerry” have destroyed the resort and as a direct consequence, resulted in their job losses.
Gonçalo Amaral has since come out in support of the proposed litigation, saying he will happily step up as a witness for the plaintiffs in their civil action against the McCanns.
Earlier this week it emerged that an agent acting on behalf of Gonçalo Amaral demanded “80,000 euros plus VAT”, after an e-mail request by Channel Five to appear on British television, a proposition which was refused.
The channel had apparently also asked that no derogatory comments be made against Kate or Gerry McCann in their request.
The showing of Channel Four’s ‘Cutting Edge’ coincided with a visit by the former detective to Paris.
Last week, Kate and Gerry McCann appeared on Oprah Winfrey in a programme that has been widely transmitted across the globe. A source close to the family told The Portugal News on Thursday that the couple were pleased at the results obtained from the show, highlighting the “sympathetic” nature of Oprah Winfrey.
Sources in America explained that no money changed hands for the appearance of the couple, as it is not their “policy to pay for news interviews”.
Last month, Gerry McCann admitted in an in interview given to The Portugal News in Praia da Luz that the Find Madeleine Fund, which has received around 2.5 million pounds since it was set up shortly after Madeleine’s disappearance, is running out of financial resources.
“There’s still money in it”, said Mr McCann, adding: “I can’t give you the exact figure, but we have spent and continue to spend a lot of money with the aim of trying to enhance the chance of finding her.
On the chances of the Fund drying up completely he responded: “It won’t dry up in the next few months, but probably by the end of the year, at the rate we are running.”
He concluded that fundraising is presently being considered as an option to boost funds and thus ensure an ongoing interest in finding Madeleine.
Madeleine McCann has been missing since May 3rd 2007. She was three at the time of her disappearance and will be six next week.

An artist's sketch of a suspicious man seen in the Praia da Luz area when Madeline McCann disappeared

Retired British detectives are pursuing "potentially significant" information received after the broadcast of a new TV documentary about the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, her family's spokesman has said.
More than 50 calls were made to the McCanns' investigative hotline following the airing of Thursday night's programme.
The callers offered "real, new information", including details of possible sightings of the missing child, said family spokesman Clarence Mitchell.
Madeleine was nearly four when she went missing from her family's holiday flat in Praia da Luz, southern Portugal, on May 3 2007 while her parents dined with friends nearby.
The new documentary highlighted three witnesses who saw an odd stranger who appeared to be watching the McCanns' apartment in the days before she disappeared. An artist's impression based on one account of the man, who was described as "very ugly" with pitted skin and a large nose, was also released this week.
Madeleine's parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, from Rothley, Leicestershire, are employing two retired British policemen to continue the search for their daughter.
The former officers - ex-detective inspector Dave Edgar, 52, and ex-detective sergeant Arthur Cowley, 57 - scoured thousands of pages from the official Portuguese case files looking for clues. They put the three reports of a suspicious stranger hanging around the McCanns' apartment together with two sightings of a man carrying a child away from the flat on the night Madeleine vanished.
Mr Mitchell said there was a good response to the programme, Madeleine Was Here, which was watched by 2.6 million people on Channel 4 and will be screened by Portuguese broadcaster SIC on Monday.
He said: "The investigative phone line has had at least 50 calls since the documentary. It's a very encouraging response because there is real, new information being given in some of these calls, information that the investigators are now able to set to work on.
"Some of the calls are coming from Portugal, and that's exactly where we need the information from. We will not go into detail but the investigators are very pleased with that response."

HUNTING FOR MADDIE: Cold case chief Edgar

http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/article_tag/exclusive.gif

By Dominic Herbert, 10/05/2009
THE British team of cold case detectives investigating Maddie McCann's disappearance today reveal sensational NEW LEADS.

Senior ex-police officers hired by parents Kate and Gerry now have the names of at least FIVE new possible kidnappers after a flood of calls from the public last week.
And they have found vital evidence never properly investigated by blundering Portuguese cops.
It includes a list of 18 PERVERTS and a sinister series of SIX SEX ATTACKS on other British kids within an hour's drive of the Praia da Luz resort where Maddie was snatched.
The former detective inspector leading the squad, Dave Edgar, also believes the youngster-who would be six on Tuesday-is ALIVE and could still be hidden in peasant villages ten miles away. Police have never searched these.
Opening his case files exclusively to the News of the World, Edgar said: "Is it possible that Madeleine is alive and living in the Algarve despite all the publicity? The answer is yes.
Identify

"There is a very strong possibility that Madeleine is still within that area. We are following evidence with this."
Edgar, 52, revealed how his team has been sifting through responses following the release of an image of how Maddie would look today-plus a TV reconstruction and artist impressions of a man seen watching the McCann's holiday flat before the abduction.
"We have had between 200 and 300 good calls," said Edgar. "There are five or six really important ones we are focusing in on now. We have had names come in and information with which we can identify others."
They will also cross reference the names of new suspects with their database of British sex offenders living in Portugal at the time. As the cold case hots up, Edgar's team are virtually certain ONE MAN carried out the kidnapping that shook the world and NOT child traffickers. And Edgar says the Portuguese cops probably had him in their grasp but let him slip through their fingers.
"There is no evidence that there is more than one person involved," he said. "And I believe there is a real chance the police have spoken to him during their inquiry."
But hardened cop Edgar - used to leaving no stone unturned in UK investigations - says he was astonished to find vital evidence in Portuguese police files that was never made public during the search.
He said it seemed they had failed to run thorough checks on 18 sex offenders living within easy reach of the McCanns' apartment.
Edgar added: "I have had a look at the files and it is very difficult to assess them as the documents I have been given are not very satisfactory.
"All I can say is that so far we have eliminated only two of the offenders because they were in prison at the time. The remaining 18 weren't investigated to the standard I'm used to. But we will take this forward."
Former Northern Ireland and Cheshire cop Edgar, 52, Edgar and his hard-core squad of four hand-picked investigators -drafted in by the McCanns last November - are also looking at records of six sex attacks against youngsters in the Algarve leading up to Madeleine's kidnap. Again, these are poorly documented by the Portuguese.
"Most of attacks were overnight, in apartments and at least five involved British children," he said. "I am looking for links to the Madeleine abduction - geographical links, links with the descriptions."
The attacks are:
APRIL 14, 2004: Praia do Carvoeiro, Lagoa, 20 miles from Praia da Luz (PDA). Sex assault on 10-year-old girl.
JUNE 9 2005: Sao Rafael, near Sesmarias, 50 miles from PDA. Sex assault on nine-year-old girl.
JUNE 2 2006: Praia do Carvoeiro, Lagoa, 20 miles from PDA. Sex assault on seven-year-old girl and her 10-year-old sister in separate rooms.
OCTOBER 29 2006: Albufeira, 45 miles from PDA. Sex assault on eight-year-old girl
CHRISTMAS DAY, 2006: Silves, 35 miles from PDA. Attempted abduction of three-year-old girl.
MAY 28 2007: Albufeira. 45 miles from PDA. Intruder disturbed at the bottom of nine-year-old girl's bed.
Edgar told us: "Some of the attacks were in the files and some were in other documents that were not terribly obvious. Again I am subject to the frailties of the Portuguese authorities and have to work with what I have been given. I have tried to build bridges with them but have had no response. But we have access to other files that have not been released to the public and the media."
As well as sifting through case files, Edgar has pinpointed a wilderness just 10 miles north of the tourist strip where Maddie could be hidden in peasant communities live in isolation.
Memories

"Once you get beyond the tourist strip it is a different world. The geography is a really important factor," he said. "These are isolated areas, it is impoverished and villagers live the way they have done for years. Children change physically and a child's memory changes.
"Madeleine will have memories but at that age you develop very quickly and especially if you are living with people from different backgrounds.
"The other really important point is that no body has been found."
Edgar's belief that one man alone took the youngster was backed by revelations last week that a mystery man with a pockmarked face and pointed nose was spotted by two separate witnesses watching the McCanns flat in the days before the kidnap.
The ex-cop thinks it could be the man seen by Jane Tanner, one of the holidaymakers who had been with the McCanns in the tapas bar before Maddie was snatched.
Edgar said: "I think it could be the same person - some one with knowledge of the area. The descriptions given are very similar. And Jane is a very reliable witness."
http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00038/maddie_reward_200_38755a.jpg
He dismissed many of the established theories behind Maddie's disappearance - like the involvement of child traffickers. "From the evidence I just don't think this is the case," he said. He has also ruled out Maddie being carried aboard a yacht at a nearby marina after interviewing the key witness behind the theory.
And he said the Portuguese police were WRONG to focus on the McCanns and local Robert Murat as suspects.
"A closed mind gives you closed options. They had a theory that focused on, Kate and Gerry and Murat. There is not one shred of evidence against any of them."
The McCanns' spokesman Clarence Mitchell said last night: "Kate and Gerry are very pleased at the response from the publicity of the second anniversary of Madeleine's disappearance. And they are pleased with the good work Dave and his team are doing."

It would be so wonderful if she is found alive. However, if she has been with a sex offender all this time, I would wonder about her physical and mental condition.

My hope is that she was kidnapped for someone who wanted a child to love as their own. That is what I have felt, but maybe I was just fooling myself.

Detectives hunting for Madeleine McCann are studying a list of 18 perverts and six sex attacks on kids in the area where she vanished.
Ex-cops hired by parents Kate and Gerry also have details of five new suspects following last week's publicity on the second anniversary of her disappearance.
Former detective inspector Dave Edgar, 52, believes she is still alive.
He thinks she could be living in a Portuguese village just 15 miles from the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz, where she was last seen in May 2007.
He said: "There is a very strong possibility Madeleine is still within that area. We are following evidence with this."
Sketch
His team have been sifting through up to 300 calls after a TV reconstruction last week and the release of a sketch of a man seen watching the McCann's holiday flat.
They are cross-checking a database of sex offenders in Portugal at the time, including 18 living within an hour of the McCanns' holiday flat.
He said: "There are five or six we are focusing in on. We have names for some."
Edgar is looking at records of six sex attacks on children in the Algarve in the three years before Madeleine's disappearance. He said: "Most were overnight, in apartments, and at least five involved British children."
Edgar says it is more than likely Portuguese cops had the kidnapper in their grasp but let him go.

New Maddie McCann suspect: Police hunt British paedophile living an hour's drive from Praia da Luz

By Vanessa Allen and Julie Moult

A British paedophile was the new focus of the hunt for Madeleine McCann last night.

Former soldier Raymond Hewlett was living just an hour's drive from the resort of Praia da Luz when she disappeared in May 2007.
He has a long record of sex attacks on young girls and is wanted by police in the UK and Ireland. Since Maddie's disappearance he has gone back on the run.

Now, in a dramatic development, detectives working for Kate and Gerry McCann have flown to Portugal after a tip-off about 64-year-old Hewlett.
Sources close to the investigation said they were told he spoke to friends about Maddie in such a way that they suspected he was involved or knew what had happened to the three-year-old.

Madeleine McCann: British paedophile Raymond Hewlett is 'significant new suspect'

Raymond Hewlett, a convicted British paedophile responsible for a number of sex attacks in the last 40 years, is being investigated in connection with the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, it has emerged.

Hewlett, a former soldier, is believed to have been living an hour's drive from the resort of Praia da Luz, in Portugal, when she disappeared in April 2007, reports said.
The 64-year-old has a long record of sex attacks on young girls and is wanted by police in Britain and Ireland.
He has been on the run since Madeleine's disappearance.
The new information is thought to have emerged after Madeleine's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, made a string of international media appearances to issue a fresh appeal for information on the second anniversary of her disappearance.
New material released included a computer-aided image of what she may look like now, aged six, while another was a sketch of a suspect seen near the holiday complex.
Hewlett, described by detectives as "cunning" and a "danger to children", is a former Scots Guardsman who has worked as a trawlerman and fairground operator.
He has been jailed several times for sexual offences against young girls.
Hewlett is also wanted by some British police forces for questioning about sex attacks stretching back nearly 30 years.
It is not known if he was interviewed by Portuguese police but they have been informed he may have been involved in her disappearance.
The search for Madeleine is headed by two retired UK policemen, Dave Edgar, a former RUC and Cheshire Police officer, and Arthur Cowley, previously of Merseyside Police, who run Alpha Investigations Group and have been hired by the Find Madeleine Fund to investigate missed leads.
Clarence Mitchell, spokesman for the McCann family, said: "My understanding is he is currently receiving hospital treatment and is currently in Germany.
"Kate and Gerry are fully aware of the development and have been for a little while.
"This is one line of inquiry in an ongoing investigation led by two former police officers.
He added that he believed a number of British police forces had been looking for Mr Hewlett for some time.
"Three police forces have an interest in him and want to talk to him, I believe, about other matters," he said.
"He has a background that would be of interest to any police force. It is potentially significant but I will go no further than that."
He refused to comment on whether Hewlett was in police custody.
The alarm was raised about Hewlett by a couple who met him while on holiday in Portugal.
When Alan and Cindy Thompson met Hewlett, he was living with his wife and six children in a converted Dodge truck travelling from campsite to campsite.
Mr Thompson told the Daily Mirror: "Hewlett befriended us but kept quiet about his terrible past.
"We were mortified and disgusted to discover the truth."
They also described a conversation in which Hewlett said he was approached by some "Gipsy tourists" offering to buy his daughter just before Madeleine went missing.
Mrs Thompson said: "We didn't think too much of this at the time. Ray and his family led a desperate hand-to-mouth lifestyle and someone may have thought he'd be tempted to sell one of his six children."
They also recalled him mentioning a "business" trip to Morocco where there were several alleged sightings of Madeleine in the months after her disappearance.

Skelmersdale dad and psychic tells of his powerful gift to help people

May 22 2009 (http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-life/liverpool-lifestyle/2009/05/22/) by Greg O'Keeffe, Liverpool Echo

Greg O’keeffe speaks to psychic investigator Joe Power
IT IS disconcerting how casually Joe Power slips into conversation that he has chatted to John Lennon and Princess Diana.
The natural sceptic could be forgiven for instantly confining his claims to the bin marked publicity-seeking psychic personality.
But then something about this softly-spoken Liverpool-born and Skelmersdale-raised father-of-three is distinctly different from the showmen of Living TV’s Ghost Hunters.
For a start you don’t hear of many psychics who are regularly contacted by Metropolitan police detectives for help cracking grisly murder cases.
But that is the norm for Joe, who is highly-regarded for the accuracy of his spiritual readings and public demonstrations.
Now, he is temporarily back in the north west to promote his new book The Man Who Sees Dead People and has also spoken for the first time about his attempts to help in the Madeleine McCann investigation.
Using the help of his psychic guides Joe believes he has discovered a location in Praia Da Luz where Madeleine was taken to after her disappearance.
The sketch of the remote house which he saw in his psychic trance was sent to Portuguese police last year and more recently to the new British detective team hunting for the missing child.
“If I had a professional team with me I could guide them to that house and I’m convinced Madeleine has been there or is still there,” says Joe. “I believe I have seen the face of the person who abducted Madeleine and it is not dissimilar to the sketch which the detectives released after help from Jane Tanner.
“There is specific information I have coming through that might help to build up the complete picture of what happened. There is a chemists in the resort too and the person who abducted Madeleine would have some association with the area by the chemists.
“If they could find that house I firmly believe that would lead to finding Madeleine. I get the feeling she has not left Portugal. I’d be prepared to go over there and help but at the same time I don’t want people to think I’m trying to cash in on Madeleine. The book isn’t about her and I only mention my visions on her case briefly towards the end.”
Joe’s own personal story makes interesting reading. He started having visions and out of body experiences as a young boy in Skelmersdale and initially didn’t realise he was the only one experiencing it.

When he realised he was alone in his visions he became lonely and withdrawn, and later he claims, a magnet for vindictive teachers.
It also led to teasing and bullying from fellow pupils and he was written off as a lost cause. To protect himself, Joe acted tough and wound up in a series of petty gangs which led to spending time in youth offenders institutions.
He continued to deny his psychic abilities until the day one of his brothers was murdered. He saw the grim truth emerge via psychic visions and he decided he could no longer ignore his visions.
“There was nothing for us on the streets of Skem,” says Joe. “I had no direction and I fell into crime. I got locked up for 18 months for something as stupid as nicking bags of frozen scampi from a supermarket. I’ve also been in prison down south and in Walton when I got caught for credit card fraud up here.
“But I believe my difficult past was preparation for helping people with all levels of problems. After my brother died I decided to use my psychic power to help solve murder cases and give the loved ones of victims some closure.”
Joe’s book provides fascinating insight into some of the cases he has worked on; from Shannon Matthews disappearance, Merseyside murder victim Helen McCourt, 16-year-old Liverpool gunshot victim Liam Kelly and 18-year-old model Sally Anne Bowman.
“The police never like to admit they have come to ask me but I have kept all their emails on past cases,” he says.
Joe also performs live readings on TV and recently contacted a murder victim in Tokyo in front of 25 million viewers.
“I’m not into these flamboyant psychics running around houses,” he says. “I don't do fortune telling either. “I’ve got to take it seriously because I’m dealing with people’s loved ones.”
But there is a more light-hearted side to his gift, highlighted when he brought through the spirit of John Lennon on US TV.
“Even famous musicians like John and then Royals like the Queen Mother are only spiritual souls like everybody else. My powers work the same way for every level of society; from the Queen Mum to a homeless man on the street.”
Joe Power will be signing copies of his book The Man who sees Dead
People, at Waterstone's, Bold St, Liverpool at noon on Saturday, June 6.

Madeleine 'suspect' Raymond Hewlett faces extradition to UK

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00561/mccann_suspect_561490a.jpg
(PA)
Convicted paedophile Raymond Hewlett

A British paedophile identified as a suspect in Madeleine McCann’s disappearance faces extradition from Germany to be questioned in the UK over child abduction and sex attacks.
Raymond Hewlett has admitted being just 30 miles from the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz at the time Madeleine disappeared from her holiday apartment in May 2007.
He has a long record of sex attacks on girls and is wanted by police in Britain and Ireland for offences dating back more than 30 years.
Private investigators employed by Madeleine’s parents have been looking into Mr Hewlett for some weeks along with a number of other potential suspects, it was confirmed yesterday.

The former soldier has been traced to a hospital in Germany where is being treated for throat cancer.
British police are expected to make a formal request for him to be extradited to face questioning.
Detectives in West Yorkshire confirmed today that they want to quiz him over an indecent assault in 1975. Greater Manchester Police want to question him over the abduction and abuse of an eight-year-old girl in the same year.
Clarence Mitchell, spokesman for Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry McCann, said: “Mr Hewlett remains a person of interest to the investigators but he is just one of a number of people identified during the investigation who are being checked out. “Kate and Gerry have been kept informed of what is happening.” Hewlett bears some resemblance to an artist’s impression of a man seen outside the McCann’s holiday apartment before she disappeared. However, he is at least 30 years older than most of the witness descriptions.
The McCanns' private investigation team are understood to have been disappointed that Hewlett’s identity has been revealed before they could speak to him and had not considered him to be one of the prime suspects.
The couple, from Rothley, Leicestershire, believe that Madeleine’s abductor had been watching their apartment at the Ocean Club resort for several days before abducting her from her bedroom while they were at a nearby tapas bar.
Hewlett has strenuously denied any involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance.
“If you’ve chosen to believe anything I can’t do anything about it anyway, so there you go. Catch 22.

“You’re basing it on someone’s past, rather. That means the person’s past is important. Doesn’t make him guilty. I’ve done nothing wrong, nothing, nothing.”
Hewlett, who was born in Blackpool, Lancashire, is reported to have been questioned by Portuguese police investigating Madeleine’s disappearance but was given an alibi by a 15-year-old girl.
He had been travelling with his family through a number of European countries but it is unclear why he recently checked out of a hospital on the Algarve to be treated in Germany.
The former Scots Guardsman has a string of convictions for offences against children.

He was convicted of abducting and raping a 12-year-girl in 1972. He took the girl to moors near his then home in Todmorden, West Yorkshire, and used paint thinner to knock her out. He was jailed for a year.
In 1978 he used a gun during an attack on another girl and was jailed for four years. A decade later he was jailed for six years for a sex attack on a 14-year-old girl.
After leaving jail he moved to the Republic of Ireland where he is wanted for questioning over a string of attempted abductions of girls.
Hewlett was also a prime suspect in the sex killing of 11-year-old Lesley Molseed in West Yorkshire, in October 1975. Tax clerk Stefan Kiszko spent 16 years in prison for Lesley’s murder but was released in 1992 after his conviction was quashed.
Hewlett was then reinterviewed about the murder and a file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions but it was decided there was not enough evidence to proceed. He was cleared by police in 2003 because his DNA did not match that of the killer and another man was convicted in 2007.
Hewlett has also appeared on a Crimestoppers list of Most Wanted paedophiles. The former fairground operator and trawler man was one of seven men featured in a News of the World campaign which urged the public to be on the lookout for missing paedophiles.
Details of Hewlett’s links to the Madeleine investigation were revealed yesterday after a British couple told the Daily Mirror how they had met him while on holiday in Portugal.
Alan and Cindy Thompson claimed that Hewlett told them that some “gipsy tourists” had approached him offering cash for his own daughter who had blonde hair and blue eyes shortly before Madeleine disappeared.
They said that Hewlett, his wife and six children were travelling between campsites in Algarve in a converted Dodge truck.
He told them that he was at a market in the town of Fuseta, 30 miles from Praia da Luz, when Madeleine disappeared shortly before her fourth birthday.
Mr and Mrs Thomson also claim he had told them he had gone to Morocco with his family to sell something and that it had been a “good business trip”.
Morocco has been part of the investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance because of the possibility that she could have been smuggled in to the North African country by ferry.

Brit Maddie suspect in intensive care

By ANTONELLA LAZZERI

Published: 22 May 2009

THE new suspect in the Madeleine McCann case is tonight seriously ill in hospital.

Convicted paedophile Raymond Hewlett is in a critical condition in a German intensive care unit too ill to receive any visitors.
The pervert, 64, who was living just a mile away from the holiday apartment where Maddie was abducted, is suffering from lung cancer and is being kept in a closed-off ward in a sprawling University Hospital in Aachen on the Belgian border.
The sister in charge of the intensive care unit where Hewlett is being held last night said: "He is too ill to receive visitors.
"He is very ill. His doctors said he should not see anyone.
"Maybe if he gets better over the weekend he may be able to have visitors.
"But at the moment it is impossible. He is in very bad health and is resting in intensive care."
Hewlett is staying on the ninth floor of the massive Universitasklinkum Hospital.
Detectives working for Kate and Gerry McCann want to quiz him.
He is also wanted for questioning by British police about the abduction and sexual assault of an eight year old girl.
Police from West Yorkshire want to quiz Hewlett about the unsolved crime in Manchester.
They had already made a request to German authorities to be allowed to question Hewlett before he was exposed this week as a supect in Maddie's disappearance.
But now cops are worried he will not survive his battle with cancer.
He has been described as a "serial child sex offender" and has served several jail sentences for sexual assaults on children.
The eight-year-old was abducted and seriously sexually assaulted in 1975.
West Yorkshire police have revealed that they are awaiting permission from the German authorities to be allowed to quiz Hewlett.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police confirmed: "A formal request has been made to German authorities for West Yorkshire police to question Raymond Hewlett." http://www.helpfindthemissing.org/forum/ http://www.helpfindthemissing.org/forum/
If police decide there is enough evidence against Hewlett after questioning him in Germany they could apply to have him extradited.
Hewlett was living an hour away from Praia da Luz where Maddie was snatched from on May 3rd 2007.
He is said to have made comments about the Maddie case to couple Cindy and Alan Thompson who he had befriended.
After learning of his convictions they became so concerned about what Hewlett had said they contacted the Portuguese police.
They also contacted British police on their return but claim nothing was done to track Hewlett down.
They tracked him down themselves to the hospital in Germany this week and confronted him with their suspicions but Hewlett has denied being involved in abducting Maddie.

Alert

In 2002 there was a global police alert for Hewlett, who was then described as a "serious danger to children" when he was wanted in connection with the Lesley Moolseed murder.
Hewlett was a suspect in the case but was later cleared by DNA.
Hewlett, who has worked as a trawlerman and fairground operator, was convicted of two sex attacks on girls in the 1970s and a further attack in 1988 - for which he was jailed for six years.
Hewelett posed as a policeman to abduct one girl he grabbed off the street.
The 14-year-old girl was doing a paper-round when Hewlett struck. He stopped her pretending he was a policeman, flashing what she thought was a warrant card.
He then bundled her into his van at knifepoint and drove her to moors. After drugging her with paint thinner he raped her. Hewlett was jailed for six years for the attack in 1988.
Earlier in September 1972 he abducted a 12-year-old girl and took her on to moors near his home in Todmorden, West Yorkshire where he indecently assaulted her after knocking her out with a rag soaked in paint thinner.
After leaving jail he went on the run. At one stage he was traced to the Republic of Ireland where he is thought to have lived for several years. Police say he has lived a 'Nomadic' lifestyle moving around Europe and Morroco He has been known to have lived in Donegal, Louth and Kerry and visited at least nine counties.
In 1978 he attacked another girl who was a friend's daughter after breaking into her home when he knew she was at home on her own.
He put a gun to her back, but she managed to convince him that visitors were about to arrive and he ran off. He was caught and jailed for four years.

Thats one way of putting it i guess. This guy has already been cleared by the Pjs. He also has cancer ( i believe terminal). Its being reported that the police have gone there after this guy. That isnt true even. Its the McCanns "detectives" who are ex cops and thats funny in itself because just the day before they said Madeleine was in Portugal with a loving family and the very next day they have named a dieing paedophile. And IMO to name this guy in all our dailies when he has in fact been CLEARED of being involved is just wrong. Yes he may be a paedo but hes dieing..and in this event it appears to be innocent. Not just that according to Jane Tanners statement ( for those that actually believe it which i dont) the supposed kidnapper was 35-40 and not British which in no way matches this guy. He was also a hour away so....he supposedly just got in a van and drove an hour away and just happened to come across a apartment with kids on there own ( incidentally the other kids he abused were 12+ and not 3) and at 60 odd jumped through a apartment window and just left Kates finger prints..

Today is the day the verdict comes in on the Amaralo case. My personal opinion is this is all a smokescreen to keep that out of the papers and also the fact that Amarals counter suing them.

Funny thing is there are statements in the pj files...about one of the tapas gang..from 2 doctors...that give pause for thought so..maybe they should be publicing his name also.

We need to have links when things are stated as fact, such as this man has been cleared..

Thank you...

I was at first elated that a new suspect had emerged but it seems this may just be a smokescreen of some sort. The new suspect has not even been traced to the town much less the resort hotel and as far as is known he was living an hour away from the scene of the crime.
I hope he is one of these religous types who want to clear their conscience if the cancer starts getting the upper hand.

Paedo Raymond Hewlett admits visiting Maddie holiday flats

EXCLUSIVE by Simon Wright
23/05/2009 (http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2009/05/23/)

Suspect's shock confession to holiday couple: 'I know Maddie resort very well..I’ve parked near flat several times.'
http://images.mirror.co.uk/upl/m4/may2009/1/2/kate-and-gerry-mccann-pic-pa-102898557.jpg
The British paedophile linked to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann has sensationally confessed to being outside her holiday apartment “many times”.
Convicted pervert Raymond Hewlett, 64, has admitted knowing the resort where the McCanns were holidaying “very well” and said he had parked a van close to their complex on several occasions.
And last night a man who shared a Morocco campsite with Hewlett and his family for three months described how the drifter was obsessed with the missing youngster.
Speaking exclusively to the Sunday Mirror, former Scots Guard Peter Verran, 46, revealed how Hewlett, his German wife Mariana, 33, and their six children arrived at the campsite where he was holidaying in Chefchaaouen in a battered Dodge truck. It was May 2007 – shortly after Madeleine’s disappearance.
“He seemed like an old hippy traveller who had dropped out,” said Peter, who runs an internet business selling antiques and collectibles from his home in Fowey, Cornwall.
“We got talking at the toilet block. He brought Madeleine up straight away. He said his three-year-old daughter looked like her.
“He was worried that because there had been reports that Madeleine may have been spirited away to Morocco, people might think his child was her. Then he suddenly said, ‘Madeleine’s not in Morocco’.
“I asked him what he meant and he said he knew Praia Da Luz really well. He knew the Ocean Club complex where the McCanns had been staying. He said he’d been there many times and had often parked his van close to the apartment.
“He said he knew the layout of the place, the flat and the restaurant where the McCanns and their friends had been eating when Maddie disappeared. He had a lot of detail about the layout. He said there was no way that the child could be taken without the parents seeing. He said they were lying.”
Yesterday it emerged that Portuguese police did speak to Hewlett about Madeleine’s disappearance – but ruled him out as a suspect.
Peter also revealed that pothead Hewlett made wild and unfounded claims that the McCanns – both doctors, from Rothley, Leics – were involved in their daughter’s disappearance.
“One of Hewlett’s theories was that there had been an accident and Kate and Gerry had killed her and were trying to cover it up,” said Peter.
“He even made the crazy suggestion that her mum and dad had sold her to gipsies. He said it was common knowledge among locals that Praia Da Luz in general and the Ocean Club in particular was a magnet for Romanian gipsies who abduct and then traffic children.
"I asked him why he’d left and come to Morocco. He told me he’d had to leave Portugal in a hurry. He said he’d packed his family up in half an hour and just driven out of the area. That was just after Maddie was taken.”
Peter, who is partially disabled, met his Moroccan wife Nisrine, 25, when he was holidaying in Agadir.
They married in May 2007 and when they encountered Hewlett at the remote campsite, they were enjoying an extended honeymoon touring the country in a camper van.
“We’d been there a week or so when Hewlett and his family just rolled in in a big blue Dodge truck,” said Peter, who has two children from a previous marriage. “I didn’t see him for a few days. I just saw his wife and kids. She’d checked them in to the campsite and seemed to be handling all the paperwork. In Morocco, you have to have the right papers to stay anywhere. Looking back, it seems Hewlett was reluctant to be seen by anyone in authority."

http://images.mirror.co.uk/upl/m4/may2009/1/0/raymond-hewlett-870810196.jpg
After a few days, Peter began bumping into Hewlett and they started to chat. “He told me he had been in Southern Ireland once but had to leave in a hurry,” said Peter. “He explained that he and his wife were travellers and they moved around a lot. He said he spent his days sitting around smoking dope while his six kids played.
“The kids were a bit weird. They were very withdrawn and couldn’t speak properly. They never went to school and spent all day playing in the mud.
“Hewlett told me he was ill and suffered with pains in his chest. One day he said, ‘I think I’ve got cancer’. I told him to go back to England to get checked out and to sort the kids out with a proper home. He said he didn’t want people poking their noses into his business.’’
Peter told how he and Nisrine would eat meals with Hewlett’s family – and Hewlett would often talk about Madeleine. “He went on and on about the McCanns and kept telling me all his theories about what he thought had happened,” said Peter. “Looking back, maybe it was a way of making sure we didn’t think he had anything to do with it.”
Peter, who spent six years in the Army before working with people with learning difficulties, recalled how in the three months they were all together he only saw Hewlett leave the camp once or twice. “Most of the time he stayed on the campsite,” he said. “He was never short of money though. He bought diesel, a motorbike and engine parts. I don’t know where he got his money from. He said he’d made cash from car boot sales.”
Then, one day in August 2007, Hewlett announced he and his family were leaving. “He said his wife’s visa had run out and his passport was out of date,” said Peter. “They packed up and left quickly.”
Peter and Nisrine returned to the UK in November 2007 and had occasional texts or phone calls from Hewlett. “He said he was back in Tavira, near Praia Da Luz, doing car boot sales,” Peter said.
“In June last year, he rang to say he had throat cancer. The next I heard they were in Spain. He called to ask for money and I sent him £50. I couldn’t bear the thought of his kids starving. I even offered to pay for him to come back to the UK. I didn’t get a reply and we lost touch.
“Then suddenly this week he was in the newspapers linked to Maddie’s disappearance. I could hardly believe my eyes. It was such a massive shock. It makes my blood run cold. We haven’t been able to sleep much since the news broke. I keep feeling guilty that I should have noticed something and gone to the police. But I just thought he was an odd drifter. I pray he hasn’t had anything to do with it, but now I just don’t know.”
Detectives working for the McCanns are now investigating former trawlerman Hewlett. And officers from Leicestershire Police – the McCanns home force and in charge of liaising with Portuguese authorities – have said they want to speak to two British holidaymakers who tracked down Hewlett.
Cindy and Alan Thompson raised the alarm after they realised he and his family had been staying at a camping site an hour from Praia da Luz when Madeleine vanished. The couple helped to trace him to the hospital in Germany where he is being treated for throat cancer.
Last night Leicestershire Police were made aware of the Sunday Mirror’s new revelations. Hewlett is also wanted for questioning by West Yorkshire Police over a child sex attack in 1975 and by Greater Manchester Police investigating the 1975 abuse of an eight-year-old girl.
In 1972, he abducted and sexually assaulted a neighbour’s six-year-old daughter. He was sentenced to 18 months and released after a year. In 1978 he attempted to rape a nine-year-old girl and was jailed four years. In 1988 in Mold, Cheshire, he kidnapped and assaulted a 14-year-old girl and was jailed for six years.
He was described by one judge as “extremely dangerous” and once featured on a Crimestoppers list of Most Wanted Paedophiles.

The former head of the Madeleine McCann police investigation was yesterday found guilty of falsifying evidence in a separate case.
Goncalo Amaral, 49, was given an 18-month suspended jail sentence by a court in Portugal.
He was found guilty of falsifying evidence to help cover up for three of his officers accused of torture.
Amaral was in charge of the Madeleine investigation when the McCanns were named as formal suspects in September 2007.

MADDIE: THREE BRITS PROBED

24th May 2009

By Jonathan Corke

THREE Britons are now being investigated in the case of missing Madeleine McCannhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/mag-glass_10x10.gif (http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/view/81870/Maddie-Three-Brits-probed/#).

Lancashire-born convicted paedophile Raymond Hewlett was last week named as a possible suspect.

And the Daily Star Sunday can reveal that claims about two more people are being scrutinised by the team working for Maddie’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann.

A fourth Brit, also a convicted paedophile, has been ruled out.

The McCanns’ spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, said yesterday that a “number of names” had been put forward after appeals on this month’s second anniversary of Maddie’s disappearance from Praia da Luz on the Portuguese Algarve.

He refused to comment on their nationalities.

But he did say: “A handful of calls with substantive information is being followed up. Raymond Hewlett is just one line of inquiry among several.”

Hewlett, 64, who was in Portugal when Maddie went missing, is currently in Germany being treated for cancer.

Reports in Portugal are saying that local police ruled him out of their investigation although he has been described as still dangerous to children and sources say he is wanted for questioning about an unsolved attack in Yorkshire.

The McCanns’ private team – retired detectives Dave Edgar and Arthur Cowley – intend to interview him “within days”.

Our source said: “It’s important to remember that Hewlett is just one avenue in the investigation. There are other leads being looked at.”

Edgar and Cowley still need to trace the “Scarface” suspect featured in a recent mock-up photo release.

Meanwhile, the McCanns hope that International Missing Children’s Day tomorrow will spark more information on the case.

They will join other families at an event in London.

A statement from the couple said: “If global efforts are strengthened, more of these vulnerable, innocent children will be found.”

Amaral is appealing this. There is something that the Mirror didnt write about this ( funnily enough).

I dont know if you know but around a year to 18 months ago this lake was searched and this lawyer said that he was paying for it because he had underworld connections and had been told Madeleines body was there. Well this lawyer is the one that represented Leonor Ciprano. He was asked to represent her by Metodo 3 - the Pis being paid to work for the McCanns. I sure hope..that the fund wasnt paying the lawyers fees who was suing Amaral for Leonor. Incidentally the lawyer admitted in court he was only involved in that case cause Metodo got him involved in it .. and he admitted the target was to "get Amaral". I find it strange that Metodo would even have got involved and i cant help but wonder why they want Amaral quietened.

Incidentally im curious as the PJs got found not guilty of doing anything to Leonor, a woman who had changed her story many many times and killed her young daughter and chopped her up and fed her to the pigs how Amaral could have got found guilty of ANYTHING at all. MOO

Some info about the ruling

I have no idea how many of you have seen these http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EHJjpXii9o firstly this one is of Eddie and Keela they are two of the best dogs in there field. It shows what happened when they went to Portugal

Secondly this is the translated documentary by Amaral that was recently shown in Portugal. It has been translated into English. It is ofc up to you whether you choose to believe in what the dogs indicate/Amaral claims but it does give more of a idea than you just read in the press http://joana-morais.blogspot.com/2009/04/maddie-truth-of-lie-documentary.html

According to Amaral and the Pjs she is dead :( I was actually surprised that one of our dailies actually printed that yesterday i believe it was because for the most part they havent really gone into that.

While I do think Hewett is a vile man there is absolutely no proof hes involved in what happened to Madeleine. I do think its wrong that its being reported that the police are trying to question him when in fact its only the McCanns Pis that want to. I guess it depends whether people like Hewett should have any rights or not..but personally i think its totally wrong to name the guy the way they did and have it covering the papers the way they did...and then when Hewett said he would speak to the "PI's" they then said no we are on the way to the airport. This is a guy they was supposedly desperate to talk to. And now tomorrow Wednesday on the front pages of the dailies...there accusing yet someone ELSE OF being the kidnapper after accusing Hewett for days. Its truly insane. Personally i do not believe they should have the right to accuse all and sundry in the national media as they see fit.

Incidentally all these "suspects" have only come to light since Amaral said he was suing the McCanns.

We need to have links to back up some things that are being said, ie accusing someone else... You are quoting a lot of what someone else said, they also need to have links.

Thank you...

Pretty little Madeleine, another child who seems to have to vanished into thin air. How I wish her parents would have hired a babysitter to spend the night with the children that night while the parents were out. If a sitter had been watching the children, I don't believe Maddy would have been harmed.

FUGITIVE British paedophile Raymond Hewlett has sensationally confessed that he DID see Madeleine McCann before she disappeared, it was reported today.

Pervert Hewlett — who is undergoing cancer treatment in Germany — is said to have told reporters: "Yes - I have seen Maddie."
http://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00819/maddie180_819105a.jpgMissing ... Maddie McCann

He even remembered the distinctive flaw in her right eye, it is said.
Maddie was just three when she went missing from her family's apartment as they holidayed at the Algarve's Praia da Luz resort two years ago.
Hewlett, 62, was living less than an hour away from the scene of the blonde tot's abduction at the time.
Hewlett, originally from Yorkshire, was quizzed at the time by Portuguese police investigating Maddie's disappearance. But he was given an alibi by a 15-year-old girl.

Comments

He came under renewed suspicion after making bizarre comments about the case to his friends and family.
Yesterday Hewlett left hospital in Aachen, western Germany, to be interviewed by British police over other child sex allegations.
His lawyer Thomas Dahmen told German newspaper Bild that doctors have given him just a few weeks to live after surgery for throat cancer.
Private detectives working for Maddie's parents reportedly returned to Britain empty handed last week after Hewlett demanded cash to talk to them.
A British couple originally raised the alarm about Hewlett last month after meeting him while on holiday in Portugal.

Hewlett told the couple that "gipsies" had offered him money to sell one of his kids. But he has denied involvement in Maddie's disappearance, saying: "I've done nothing wrong, nothing, nothing. I don't actually believe that child was kidnapped, let alone murdered."
Hewlett has convictions for sex offences dating back to the 1970s — and sources say he is wanted for questioning by police in Manchester, West Yorkshire, Leicestershire and the Republic of Ireland.
A source close to the British investigation added: "He was looked at by Portuguese police a number of times in the days after Maddie was taken.
"He was then named as a person of interest to the McCanns' own investigators."

Pervert says he never saw Madeleine McCann

Raymond Hewlett, the pervert who Madeleine McCann investigators want to question, says he didn't kill her and he never saw her in real life - only on TV and on posters.

The 64-year-old was said to have been living in the Algarve in Portugal when Madeleine McCann, 3, went missing from her holiday apartment in 2007. Hewlett has been living in Germany undergoing treatment for throat cancer, and detectives have been keen to speak to him there.

Hewlett is reported to have said, “It’s obvious why they’re interested in me. But they can all think what they like. I didn’t kill the McCann girl. It’s the truth and it’s never going to change." He also said the only time he had ever seen Madeleine was on television and in posters. Hewlett said there was someone who could verify his alibi but that he didn't want to bring them into it.

However, his wife has insisted that the person cannot verify his alibi. German-born Mariana, 33, confessed that a female friend who Hewlett insisted could vouch for him on the day Madeleine vanished cannot remember where he was.

People who say they knew Hewlett while he lived in Portugal have reported details that continue to interest detectives, but Hewlett has refuted various claims made about him.

8 July 2009.

Hewlett was jailed several times in the UK for sexually assaulting young girls, including an attack in 1978, in which he put a gun to his victim’s back.

By Vivian Attwood

Police investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann are racing against time to probe the lies told by convicted paedophile Raymond Hewlett.

Hewlett, 64, who is terminally ill with throat cancer, lied about significant aspects of the case, including whether he had seen the three-year-old before she went missing from the Praia da Luz holiday resort in Portugal in May 2007.

He served three jail terms in the UK for sex crimes involving children before he took up a nomadic existence criss-crossing Europe with his wife and seven children.

It has been established that he was in the vicinity of Praia de Luz when Maddie vanished. Suspicion that he might have knowledge of her whereabouts was rekindled this week when it emerged that he had misled police about the vehicle he was driving at the time of her disappearance.

The paedophile claimed he had a distinctive blue Dodge truck, and that it would have been noticed if he had driven into the resort.

But a former acquaintance of Hewlett told police that Hewlett owned a white Mercedes van at the time, similar to one seen parked near the McCanns' holiday apartment.

Former Scots Guard Peter Verran, 46, who met Hewlett in a Moroccan campsite in June 2007, said: "He told me he owned a white Transit-type (van)… but swopped it for the Dodge when he left Portugal for Morocco."

Verran also said Hewlett was fixated by the case, and had been to the holiday flat "many times".

Hewlett, who refuses to give an alibi for the night Maddie disappeared, but maintains his innocence, told a German newspaper this week: "Yes, I saw Maddie." - Daily Mail

The ex cops who work for the McCanns have ruled him out...it was obvious he was the never the person Tanner supposedly saw that night. For two or three weeks the ex cops were trying to say several people they were trying to interview...and basically some of our media started saying words such as "farce " and it all stopped and went silent.

He had been told the paedophile could only manage a 60-minute interview when to question him properly would take five hours. Hewlett was said to have stayed in Tavira, an hour’s drive from the McCanns’ Portuguese holiday flat in Praia da Luz, from which the little girl vanished in May 2007. The 64-year-old former soldier, who previously lived in Blackpool and Telford, has been treated for throat cancer in Aachen, Germany.

None of the articles on any of the links you provided have the detectives of the McCann's saying they have no interest in Hewlett, to the contrary, they express great interest in him.

It should be noted that when LE or others state a person is not a suspect, yet want to question the person, that does not mean the person is ruled out of the investigation or was cleared of the crime. An example of this was in today's news. The status of suspect or not a suspect can change, at any time, as a case develops and information and evidence is gathered.

Can you provide a link to them saying they are ruling Hewlett out as you stated in your earlier post #50 or state it is only your opinion? Thanks

The problem you have though - and its a BIG problem is these ex detectives firstly have no legal standing. They are working for the people who are seen by the Pjs as being the main suspects in the disappearance of there daughter. Now if they have this van and a hair of hers is found in there..i can see questions being asked. Likewise...and i know many have commented on this elsewhere..it would be kinda convenient if a hair just happened to be found in a van after this guys death...when they have known about this guy for a long time now.

I guess what im saying is it needs to be handled properly.

Sky sources say Hewlett has been demanding thousands of pounds in cash to help the inquiry - with the McCanns refusing to pay a penny.

00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 000000000

Thanks

IMO

Well..if the ex cops say themselves..hes not a suspect..and is just one of 9 or so people they want to talk to ( according to the links i posted )..firstly IMO the papers should not be calling him a suspect. As for supposedly wanting payments..i know he spoke to the sunday paper for nothing as they wouldnt pay someone in his situation.

I want to make it clear i think hes a total slime ball. People like him are sick. I think they should never be allowed out of prison. I know this guy was wanted for some crime near me and the cops have spoken to him about that. The McCann pis tho..they arent anything legal to do with this case. IMO if the pjs wanted to talk to him fine. If the Leicestershire police wanted to fine. But even if someone is a total slime ball..i dont think its right for someone to be totally smeared internationally for something like this. And the funny thing is this slime ball gets smeared for not answering questions - well two years after Madeleines disappearance and Kate still hasnt answered the questions the Pj put to her..so..go and figure.

The ex cops who work for the McCanns have ruled him out...it was obvious he was the never the person Tanner supposedly saw that night. For two or three weeks the ex cops were trying to say several people they were trying to interview...and basically some of our media started saying words such as "farce " and it all stopped and went silent.

I am confused. Anna posted a link saying the British Police and the Pjs..the people that are actually in charge of the case..say hes not of any interest to the inquiry. The PIs arent even involved in the case - they just work for the McCanns.

How does the content of post 50 connect to what the British LE or the PJ LE? It doesn't, it addresses directly what the detectives have done, when in fact they have not ruled him out. That's what I was asking for..a link to your quote that the Mccann's detectives have ruled him out, as you stated as a fact.

Does that help?

Can somebody track down further information...

I've received an email indicating that of 8 yachts that left the port soon after the kidnaping only 7 have been tracked down and the 8th gave a false destination and false information concerning its Swedish registration.

I've found a few news sources in Australia that report a high number of calls to the police regarding an Australian or New Zealand woman on a pier who had excitingly inquired of a stranger 3 days after the kidnapping "Are you the man who is to deliver my daughter to me".
There were reports in the Australian press that the woman had been identified and some even report that she had been located but the reports seem contradictory and mainly discuss the high number of phone calls police received.

I guess im not sure what im allowed and not allowed to say so if this post isnt allowed please delete it ok.eDG

Firstly based on all the statements i have read in the official files from the parents, the friends, workers at the complex etc etc and from the video of the dogs and even the words of the prosecutor i have a hard time believing that Madeleine is still alive. I wish that i did not feel that way i really do because its horrible to think of. I wish more than anything they would find out what REALLY happened to Madeleine because IF her parents are totally innocent they can move on with there lives without the huge suspicion on them and they would know. the fate of there daughter. In addition Praia de Luz would be able to move on. I feel so sorry for the people that live there. Before this happened they was a thriving tourist town with thousands of holiday makers there each week. Now the whole resort is barely functioning and many many people have lost there livelihoods through no fault of there own. Its truly sad whats happened there :(

In addition what i dont understand - the Pjs are the force in charge of the disappearance of Madeleine. Not Edgar and Co. The McCanns Pis are telling people to phone the hotline etc...when the logical thing would be for them to tell people to either ring the Pjs OR the Australian Police because at the end of the day there the ones legally who can deal with it. I still have a huge problem believing that with all the publicity in this case..someone would suddenly recall this conversation 2 years after the event.

Madeleine police make dramatic breakthrough in hunt for Victoria Beckham lookalike linked to disappearance
By Richard Shears
Last updated at 4:20 PM on 08th August 2009

Police in Sydney are investigating what might be a dramatic breakthrough in the hunt for Madeleine McCann.

They have been given a potential lead towards a woman who is at the centre of recent developments in the two year old case.

A New South Wales police spokesman reported today that they had received information about a woman who is similar in description to an Australian woman being sought by private investigators.

Police were contacted by another woman who said she knows the mystery woman being hunted by private detectives looking for Madeleine.

The woman who contacted them has given police a formal statement and her information is now being followed up.

It was revealed last week that a British man was spoken to by a woman outside a bar in Barcelona, Spain, 72 hours after Madeleine disappeared from neighbouring Portugal.

The woman, said the British witness, mistaking him for someone else, asked where her new daughter was - before she realised she was talking to the wrong person.

The witness said the woman, who was a Victoria Beckham look-alike, spoke fluent Spanish when she was accidentally bumped by someone a few moments later as she walked away from the Briton.

Police are now on the hunt for a mystery Australian motorboat which entered the Port Olimpic marina in Barcelona shortly before the woman was spotted.

A senior port authority source told how the 105ft multi-million pound vessel was docked at the marina for just three days.

He said: 'An Australian-flagged powerboat arrived at 12.40pm on the 6th. It left on the 9th. We don't know where it went.

'It was the only unknown vessel to have entered the port that day - the others have regular moorings here.'

He added that Australian-flagged boats in the Mediterranean were incredibly rare.

Detectives are now speculating that the powerboat was used to transport Madeleine to Spain from Portugal.

The journey of 728 nautical miles would take approximately 35 hours excluding the required four fuel stops.

A NSW police spokesman said today: 'On Friday afternoon a Sydney woman provided a formal statement to detectives at a Sydney police station.

'She claims to know the identity of the woman being sought by the private investigators attached to the McCann family.

'NSW police force will forward the information received to the Australian Federal Police for follow up.'

The AFP are responsible matters of state and for liaisons with overseas police forces.

It is not known if the woman who contacted police, or the mystery woman she says she has information about, lives in Sydney.

An artist's impression of the mystery woman - based on a description given by the British witness - has been widely circulated in newspapers and on television across the globe.

McCann family spokesman Clarence Mitchell described the public response to the E-fit of the woman as 'overwhelming'.

He went on to reveal however, that most of the responses had been from Australia: 'Names of possible women have been put forward,' he said.
'Also what our detectives describe as a "number of viable leads" have resulted from the appeal.'

As a follow up to that..and i guess the woman isnt happy..understandably IMO

A 53-YEAR-OLD mother was yesterday forced to deny that she or her fair-haired five-year-old daughter had anything to do with missing British toddler Madeleine McCann after a friend in Sydney reported her to police.

Shocked Judith Aron said: "I have no connection to the little girl."

The search for Madeleine has swept across at least four Australian states with a string of sightings after private detectives revealed they were looking for a Victoria Beckham lookalike with an Australian accent.

An identikit picture of the woman was released by British police last week after a witness came forward to say the woman had approached him in Barcelona three days after Madeleine went missing in Portugal in 2007 and said: "Are you here to deliver my daughter?"

Ms Aron, who by a bizarre twist lives in Madeline Street, Glen Iris, a Melbourne suburb, said: "I'm 53 years old and I certainly don't look like a Spice Girl.

"I'm shocked that anybody may have thought that I have some connection to this case. I can't understand how it may have happened. I can honestly say I have no connection to the little girl.

"I haven't left Australia since 2000, so there's no way I could have been in Portugal or Spain around the time she went missing.

"My mum passed away in 2000 and I was looking after my elderly father after that so I wasn't able to go overseas."

However, Ms Aron said she felt terrible for Gerry and Kate, Madeleine's parents.

"I only wish there was some way that I could help them. I have a five-year-old daughter myself so when I think of what they must be going through it is just awful."

A neighbour said she thought the link might have been made because Ms Aron spoke Spanish and had a fair-haired child.

On Friday afternoon, an elderly Sydney woman went into Burwood police station and filed a report claiming that a friend she had met in Spain, and travelled with in Portugal, was the woman in the identikit picture.

"She showed us a picture of the woman on a plane from Portugal and we got goosebumps," said a detective, who could not be named. "It looked exactly like the identikit picture."

A NSW Police spokeswoman said: "NSW Police force detectives have received information about a woman who is similar in description to the woman being sought by private investigators investigating the disappearance of British child Madeleine McCann.

"A Sydney woman provided a formal statement to detectives at a Sydney police station.

"She claims to know the identity of the woman being sought by the private investigators attached to the McCann family. The NSW Police force has forwarded the information to the Australian Federal Police for follow-up."

A federal police spokesman confirmed it had received informal notice but added: "We are certainly not investigating at the moment."

The woman who filed the statement is understood to be Nelida Martinez from Burwood. Yesterday she said: "I don't want to talk to nobody unless it's the police."

Meanwhile, attention has also focused on an Australian-registered cruiser that was in Port Olimpic marina in Barcelona at the time the mystery woman was asking the new witness if he had brought her new daughter.

Reporters from London yesterday speculated that it was a $12 million powerboat belonging to a wealthy West Australian family.

A spokesman for the family said: "This is the most ridiculous speculation I have ever heard. It's ludicrous."

Despite claims by London newspapers that investigators are looking for the yacht, which flies the Australian flag, a family friend scoffed at speculation that it could be connected in any way to the Madeleine McCann case.

The friend said: "I know the owners of that yacht and they would laugh at newspaper reports that their powerboat was somehow used in the abduction of Maddie. That's a good one."

Investigators working for the McCanns said they had received more than 600 emails after issuing the Posh Spice lookalike appeal. A spokesman for the family said most of those responses had come from Australia.

.POLICE have been given the name of a person matching a sketch of a woman sought by UK investigators over the disappearance of British girl Madeleine McCann.

A woman has told detectives she knows the mystery brunette and has provided a name and a photo that police say bears an "uncanny resemblance" to the image.

And the wanted look-alike could live in Victoria.

Police said the woman, who made a formal statement at a Sydney police station on Friday afternoon, told them the brunette lived "interstate" from NSW.

The potential local link emerged after two British men said a woman with an Australian accent implicated herself to them in a bar in Barcelona.

Madeleine disappeared from a Portuguese resort on May 3, 2007.

The two Britons were in a Spanish bar when they saw the Australian woman -- 72 hours after the girl vanished.

The "agitated" woman appeared to be waiting impatiently for somebody when one of the Englishmen, aged 41, tried to chat her up.

It is claimed she asked him in an Australian accent, "Are you here to deliver my new daughter? Have you got her? Have you got the child?"

The men allegedly did not come forward earlier because of "personal circumstances" -- at least one of them was married.

Other witnesses who have since come forward noted she spoke excellent Spanish or Catalan and was wearing dressy blue jeans and a jersey top.

The British men's accounts formed the basis of the police portrait, which has been publicised by the private investigator leading the search for Madeleine, Dave Edgar. NSW police have forwarded the new information to the Australian Federal Police and the private investigators.

Hundreds of Australians have reportedly seen the mystery brunette.

But a Victoria Police spokeswoman said no one had come forward to local police with names or any further details.

Mr Edgar said his team would fly to Australia to analyse the new information.

Clarence Mitchell, the official spokesman for the McCann family, said the response to the appeal had been substantial.

"We have had . . . many hundreds of calls coming in, particularly from Australia," he said yesterday.

Madeleine was almost four when she disappeared from her family's holiday apartment in the Portuguese coastal village of Praia da Luz, while her parents dined with friends in a nearby restaurant.

In all honesty it wasnt just those 3 that were on there own. The other had left there children also so there would have been a whole load to choose from and yes why take the eldest one and the one that had the distinguishing eye defect.

'Maddie yacht' owners found and they're worth £250millionEXCLUSIVE by Frank Thorne and Justin Penrose 9/08/2009

Family distraught at abduction ‘link’ and say hunt is ludicrous.

Madeleine McCann detectives aim to interview a millionairess after a yacht at the centre of the inquiry into the child’s disappearance was traced.

Melissa Karlson’s mother owns the £6million vessel that docked in Barcelona hours before a mystery woman asked a British tourist: “Are you here to deliver my new daughter?”

But the family of the 31-year-old Australian, daughter of £250million socialite Rhonda Wyllie, 52, yesterday told the Sunday Mirror any suggestion the vessel was involved with the abduction or the mystery woman was “ludicrous”.

The team hunting three-year-old Madeleine had believed that the mystery powerboat could provide a breakthrough.

Flying an Australian flag, it was seen in Barcelona three days after she vanished in Praia da Luz, Portugal.

Records show the 105ft boat arrived just hours before a woman – said to look like Posh Spice Victoria Beckham – approached a British bank executive and asked: “Are you here to deliver my daughter?”

The woman was described as slim and “glamorous”, aged 30 to 35, about 5ft 2ins tall, with short spiky brown hair and speaking with an Australian accent. The luxury Sunseeker vessel, called Will Power, was reportedly the only vessel out of nine unaccounted for by Maddie investigators.

It was moored in Barcelona from 12.40pm on May 6, 2007, and left on the 9th for an unknown destination.

Investigators are keen to speak to Mrs Karlson, who runs her mother’s investment group, and Mrs Wyllie to rule them out.

A source close to the investigation told the Sunday Mirror: “We have been told about the daughter of the owner of this boat and are aware of who she is. We understand she’s currently in Perth, Australia, and will be keen to speak to her to eliminate her from our inquiries.”

The family last night said they were “distraught” to have been linked to the Madeleine case but would happily cooperate with police.

Advertisement - article continues below »

Mrs Karlson, married to fashion wholesaler Jamie, is the managing director of Wyllie Group, her mother’s company. Wyllie Group company director Craig Coleman, speaking on behalf of Mrs Karlson, said from his home in Perth: “This is the most ridiculous speculation I have ever heard. It’s ludicrous.”

It came as investigators working for Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry McCann, both 41, from Rothley, Leics, had received dozens of names linked to the e-fit released last week. More than 600 phone calls have been made by people who saw the image.

The couple’s spokesman Clarence Mitchell said the team would be working their way through the names given to identify them.

A woman in Australia yesterday claimed to know the Posh Spice lookalike as Madeleine mania swept the country but the report turned out to be false.

It emerged that an investigator had already reportedly mounted an Australian surveillance operation.

Undercover detectives have been watching a number of individuals in Australia for several months after a tip-off that Madeleine was smuggled there.

But Australian Federal Police have said they are not involved in looking for Madeleine and have not been approached by the McCanns.

Ms Karlson started as a trainee accountant in her father Bill’s property development company before becoming MD in 2005, six months before his death.

She reportedly celebrated her 30th birthday with a big bash at the luxurious Legian Hotel in Bali in March last year. It is understood celebrity guests were flown in for the night.

Widow Mrs Wyllie, a non-executive director of Wyllie Group, is on Will Power, cruising in the Mediterranean, a spokesman said.

Of course she was. Any of us would love to have her as a daughter. But thinking realistically if you had a four year old and boy and girl babies to choose from to raise as your own you are going to go for a baby. It would be easier to pass the child off as your own. Add in the fact Madeliene had that very distinguishable eye defect and the choice is more obvious. And those babies were both beautiful too.

Anything is possible Claycat but what is more probable?

I know it's a long shot but I feel close to what Claycat feels. I had no hope in the beginning but as time went on, I've grown more hopeful that this case might be different from what we experience usually.

I have read ALL of the documents available, as well as worked on a team that worked directly with the McCann's PIs. There is no doubt in my mind that Madeleine was taken by someone who wanted her, the reason why is still unclear but I hope for the best.

I do not believe that the iris was noticed by the abductor. I don't think he/she got close enough to see that. I believe she was picked out from the group of kids at the kids club beach activities, and her villa was more easily accessed than any of the others. And the twins were babies at that age - apparently the person who wanted her, wanted a girl her age.

Whether it be a pedophile or someone who wanted a "daughter", Madeleine was selected - as all abducted children are.

I will always have hope that she will be found safe, and this news definitely makes me more hopeful.

Luxury Yacht Pair 'Can't Help' Madeleine Case
12:26pm UK, Thursday August 13, 2009

An Australian socialite and her daughter say they are unable to provide any "relevant assistance" to investigators searching for Madeleine McCann.

Theories linking the yacht to Madeleine's disappearance were denied

The luxury yacht owned by Rhonda Wyllie and Melissa Karlson, the widow and daughter of the late Perth property tycoon Bill Wyllie, was linked to the inquiry in reports.

The boat, named WillPower, was moored at a marina in Barcelona, Spain, where a woman with an Australian accent reportedly asked a bystander if he was there to deliver her "new daughter" days after Madeleine disappeared.

Private detectives working for the girl's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, launched an appeal for information last week about the mysterious woman, described as a Victoria Beckham lookalike.

The Wyllie family is perplexed with these media reports.

Statement released by the Wyllie family
But Mrs Wyllie and Ms Karlson said they were in Antibes, France, on the night in question.

The pair said they could not help the investigators with the investigation but would co-operate with police to confirm the facts.

A statement released through their company said: "The Wyllie Group today confirmed that the Wyllie family were unable to provide any relevant assistance to authorities investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in Portugal in 2007.

"British media reports on Sunday August 9, 2009, raised suggestions that Wyllie family members may be able to assist investigators in relation to an incident at Port Olympia, Barcelona, on the night of May 6, 2007.

"The Wyllie family is perplexed with these media reports. In fact, members of the Wyllie family were in Antibes, France, that evening, not in Barcelona.

"The Wyllie yacht WillPower was docked in Port Olympia on May 6, 2007, crewed by American and English personnel.

"The Wyllie family appreciates that the McCann family needs to pursue every possible inquiry and will co-operate with police investigators to confirm any facts."

There is no suggestion that Mrs Wyllie, Ms Karlson or any of their yacht's crew had anything to do with the Madeleine's disappearance.

The youngster was nearly four when she went missing from her family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on May 3, 2007, while her parents dined with friends nearby.

Just over 72 hours later, in the early hours of May 7, two British men saw the woman while on a night out in the popular Port Olimpic Marina in Barcelona.

An e-fit of the mystery woman

After speaking to the witness, the woman went into a bar next door, where she had a heated conversation with a local in what seemed to be fluent Spanish.

McCann family spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: "We are grateful to the Wyllie family for clarifying their position.

"Our investigators have spoken to some of the crew members at the time, and we are very grateful to them for their assistance in this matter."

There have now been more than 800 responses to the appeal for information about the woman seen in Barcelona and it is understood the McCanns' private detectives are pursuing lines of inquiry within Europe.

Criminals are good at what they do. If someone wanted fake adoption papers, I am sure they could get them. Before having my child, I was uncomfortable with babies. I would have much rather adopted a three or four year old. Even now, not having to deal with the baby stage is appealing. Not having to wake up every hr or so, the diapering, feeding, entertaining, etc. Madeleine is a beautiful child. JMO but it doesn't seem that far fetched. Unfortunatly it also would makes sense that a porn ring would prefer an older child over a baby. Again, just my oppinion.

Madeleine "lookalike" sought by Swedish police

Swedish police are hunting for a girl photographed at a car show who looks like Madeleine McCann, says The Sun (http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/2676742/McCanns-Find-girl-in-Swedish-photo-she-could-be-our-missing-Madeleine.html)newspaper, which also has the photo.

The newspaper reports that police received a number of calls from people at the car show in Sweden who thought they had seen Madeleine, and computer tests on the photograph show a strong resemblance to Madeleine.

"Her jawline is identical and her eyes are the same colour as Maddie's," says the newspaper, which also says face-mapping tests have been run on the photo. The newspaper doesn't say whether the police or the newspaper carried out the tests.

The photograph was taken by a photographer working at the car show, but he neglected to get the girl's name and police have so far been unable to find her. The photograph of the girl is not clear enough to show a close-up of the girl's eyes to see whether she bears Madeleine's dstinctive mark on the iris.

Kate and Gerry McCann have been reported as saying they think it bears a strong resemblance to how Madeleine would look now and would like it looked into, but the matter is currently being dealt with by Swedish police.

Police are also searching for a Swedish-registered boat they believe is connected to a woman seen in Barcelona (http://www.ukparentslounge.com/index.php?pg=104&utwkstoryid=2182) a few days after Madeleine McCann disappeared. The boat captain reportedly told authorities he was sailing to Albufeira, in the Algarve, but no trace of the boat has been found since it was in Barcelona.

The whole point of putting a missing child's picture out is so the public will be on the look out for the child. If it were my child in the pic and not related to Madeleine McCann, I would be happy to come forward and prove not her so family could move on.
The child in the picture in the Sun does favor Madeleine. It should be really easy to say yea or nay with the unique marking on Madeleine's eye.

Thanks for posting, interesting link even though I doubt this is Maddy.

A clearer photo would be nice. Why do they have "the sun" logo right over her face?

It seems to be the way that The Sun is identifying its image - a close up has the same logo. It does make it difficult to see her features.

MADELEINE EXCLUSIVE: ALL THREE CHILDREN DRUGGED

http://images.dailyexpress.co.uk/img/dynamic/1/285x214/133307_1.jpg

MISSING: Madeleine McCann

Sunday October 11,2009

By James Murray

The kidnapper of Madeleine McCann drugged her and her twin brother and sister so they would all be quiet while she was snatched.

A duplicate key may also have been used to gain entrance to the holiday apartment where the children were sleeping, say investigators.

It means the monster is still a threat to children living or holidaying on Portugal’s Algarve and must be caught urgently as he is highly likely to reoffend.

Former police detectives David Edgar and Arthur Cowley have spent months re-analysing every shred of evidence.

They are convinced the abductor went to the family’s apartment on May 3 2007 fully prepared with sufficient drugs, probably chloroform, to knock out all three children.

The fact that Sean and Amelie, then just 18 months old, failed to wake when the alarm was raised, nor even as they were taken to another apartment in the cold night air, has persuaded the detectives that they, too, must have been drugged.

Had the twins been tested for drugs immediately, any medication used could have been established, making it easier to identify the kidnapper, but vital time was lost.

Chloroform can be made easily and other sedatives, such as the horse tranquilliser ketamine, are commonly in circulation in the criminal underworld.

Even now, however, experts say there may be forensic clues on clothing or bedding which could yield a breakthrough.

The Sunday Express can further reveal that the McCanns’ private detectives are working on a solid theory about exactly how Madeleine was abducted.

Just as television investigator Donal MacIntyre suggested in this paper three weeks ago, they believe there was a dry run prior to the kidnap that fateful night at apartment 5a of the Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz (http://express.co.uk/posts/view/128671/Madeleine-I-know-how-she-was-taken).

While checking the layout of the apartment the night before, the kidnapper probably woke Sean, who in turn woke Madeleine. In the morning she had told Kate and Gerry she was frightened.

The fact that the children woke up is thought to have persuaded the kidnapper to use knock-out drugs when he returned the next night to take Madeleine, three.

On the question of the duplicate key, holidaymakers often left front door keys under the doormats during the day.
A theory emerging is that the kidnapper had a duplicate key to apartment 5a, which could have been used on the night to enter by the front door.

Mr Edgar and Mr Cowley do not believe Madeleine was taken through an open window as it would have been awkward, time consuming and there were no forensic clues left behind.

It is far more likely, they say, that he simply walked out of the front door with her in his arms. It had been thought that the front door was double locked, making it impossible to open from the inside, but this doubt falls away if there was a duplicate key.

The theory suggests the kidnapper had been targeting the apartment for a long time and had a detailed knowledge of the lock system.

With the front door unlocked, it is easy to simply pull a latch across to open it from the inside.

Another possibility is that the front door was not double-locked when Kate and Gerry left through the unlocked patio doors to join their seven friends at the resort’s tapas bar some 30 metres from their apartment.

Meanwhile it emerged yesterday that the parents of a two-year-old girl who has gone missing in New Zealand are being supported by the McCanns.

Aisling Symes vanished from a relative’s house in an Auckland suburb on Monday.

Her mother Angela had been close by, standing beside a washing machine.

There have been reports that the girl was later seen with a woman of Asian appearance.

Detectives believe she was abducted. Despite repeated appeals for help their searches have so far drawn a blank.
Kate and Gerry McCann said their “thoughts and prayers” were with the family.

The little girl’s father, Allan Symes, who is originally from County Waterford in Ireland, made an emotional plea for her return, saying: “These recent days have proven to be the most harrowing of our lives; no sleep and we feel like we’re barely existing, just surviving every moment, not knowing where Aisling is.”

It has also emerged that police in Sweden are trying to find a girl said to bear a resemblance to Madeleine after a photograph was posted on a website.

However, she does not appear to have the distinctive mark Madeleine has in her right eye.

PORTUGUESE Judge Banned book that claims Madeleine McCann is dead

PORTUGUESE Judge Banned book that claims Madeleine McCann is dead

A PORTUGUESE judge today banned further sales or publications of a former policeman's book which claimed Madeleine McCann is dead, a spokesman for the missing girl's parents said.
Clarence Mitchell said Kate and Gerry McCann were "absolutely delighted" that a judge at Lisbon's main Civil Court had banned any further publication of The Truth Of The Lie by Goncalo Amaral.

He said the book had hampered the search for missing Madeleine and added to her parents' distress.

Mr Amaral worked on the investigation into three-year-old Madeleine's disappearance from an apartment in Praia da Luz in May 2007 during a family holiday.

He was removed from the investigation after criticising British police.
The injunction, granted today after a hearing last week, means he has to ensure that all unsold copies of the book are removed from shops and warehouses across Europe or he faces a 1,000 euro-a-day (£877) fine.
Mr Mitchell said: "Kate and Gerry McCann are absolutely delighted that the judge in Portugal has done the right thing by granting this injunction."
He said Mr Amaral's claims that he believed Madeleine was dead were "threatening the search".

Mr Amaral said he did not believe the McCanns' account that Madeleine was taken while they were eating with friends nearby.

Mr Mitchell said the Mr Amaral's claims had "added to their distress".

The injunction bans Mr Amaral from repeating his claims about Madeleine or her parents.

The terms of the injunction also apply to a TV programme about Madeleine's disappearance which Mr Amaral produced several months ago.

The injunction forces copyright for the book and the film to be passed to the McCanns' lawyer.

In a statement, Kate and Gerry McCann said: "We are pleased with the judge's decision today preventing further distribution and sale of Mr Amaral's book and DVD – The Truth Of The Lie.

"Mr Amaral's central thesis has no evidence whatsoever to support it.

"To claim, as he did, that Madeleine is dead, and that we, as her parents, were in some way involved with her disappearance has caused our family incredible distress and it continues to do so.

"Without doubt, Madeleine will have suffered as a result of the negative effect this book and DVD will have had on the search for her.

"Sean and Amelie need protection, too, from such awful claims."

Twins Sean and Amelie, now four, are the couple's younger children who were also in the holiday apartment when Madeleine went missing.

The statement ended by saying: "Hopefully this injunction today will go a long way towards reducing further unnecessary and unjust distress to us all and allow people to concentrate completely on what is important – finding Madeleine."

Thanks, SG - I think I saw the photo of her sitting with her dad a long time ago, but didn't realize how significantly she had changed.

You are probably right, Anna, the photo they used does show her eye. I do think it would have been wise to have both photos on the poster with an explanation of what each photo represented.

The thing is her eye feature is only ok if basically you got in Madeleines face..so it would still make more sense to have used the up to date one..or as suggested both pictures side by side because i think..if people was trying to look out for Madeleine..that picture on the poster looks nothing like her IMO.

We are not here to bash or accuse the McCanns.. they have not been charged with anything and they are parents of a missing child.

All bashing/accusing posts will be removed... if it keeps happening over and over by the same posters, you will lose access to this forum.

Thank you,
Pauli
