"He had mentioned in the past moving West," said Aurora police spokesman Dan Ferrelli.
According to police, there is no indication that Powell is endangered. While there is no law against an adult leaving home unexpectedly, police would like to know that he is OK.
"We just want to make sure he's safe," Ferrelli said.
Detectives have talked with several people who know Powell, and all say his disappearance is out of character. Detectives have also contacted his bank, credit card and telephone companies, but have come up with few leads.
Police describe Powell as white, 5-foot-8, 150 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He has a goatee and mustache, but police believe he may have grown out the goatee and may now be sporting a full beard.
Powell is hearing-impaired, police said.
Powell's family could not be reached for comment.
Anyone with information is asked to call Aurora police detectives at 630-801-6655.
