"He had mentioned in the past moving West," said Aurora police spokesman Dan Ferrelli.
According to police, there is no indication that Powell is endangered. While there is no law against an adult leaving home unexpectedly, police would like to know that he is OK.
"We just want to make sure he's safe," Ferrelli said.
Detectives have talked with several people who know Powell, and all say his disappearance is out of character. Detectives have also contacted his bank, credit card and telephone companies, but have come up with few leads.
Police describe Powell as white, 5-foot-8, 150 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He has a goatee and mustache, but police believe he may have grown out the goatee and may now be sporting a full beard.
Powell is hearing-impaired, police said.
Powell's family could not be reached for comment.
Anyone with information is asked to call Aurora police detectives at 630-801-6655.

Steve Miller Reporting
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Aurora Police are asking for the public's help in finding a hearing impaired man who's been missing for more than five weeks.

It was March 27 when 45-year-old James Powell was reported missing by his family and by employees at the factory where he worked.

"It seems as though this guy has pretty much vanished."

Dan Ferrelli is spokesman for the Aurora Police.

Ferrelli says there's no indication Powell suffers from depression.

Ferrelli says friends say this is out of character for Powell, who Ferrelli says is hearing impaired.

"There's no proof in any of our findings that he's endangered at all. He had mentioned in the past to some people that he maybe thought of moving out West, but we still haven't been able to find him, and right now we just want to make sure that he's safe."

Ferrelli says Powell had a roommate who moved out a few days before Powell disappeared.

Missing man returns to Aurora home

June 1, 2009
From Staff Reports

A 45-year-old Aurora man who had been missing since March 27 is safe after he returned home over the weekend, Aurora police said Monday.

James Powell, of the 300 block of Florida Avenue, returned home on Saturday. He was apparently never in danger and left the area under his own volition, police said.

In early May, police put out a call asking for the public's help in finding Powell, after relatives and friends expressed concern that they had not heard from him in weeks.

A few days later, police said Powell may have gone West.

Police Monday said they would not elaborate on the case.
