PAGE – The search for Robert Prescott of St. Petersburg, Fla. at Lake Powell is ebbing as the Department of Public Safety returned to their regular duties last weekend.

Prescott has been missing since April 25 when the boat he was on undertook water and sank during a windstorm. After the boat he had rented from Wahweap was reported overdue, the National Park Service, Kane and San Juan County Sheriff Offices, and Utah State Parks began using boats, fixed-wing aircraft, and a helicopter in a concentrated search for three couples believed to be in their 50s and 60s.

Survivors James and Heather Brady of St. Pete Beach, Fla. were discovered and rescued by a ranger at Padre Butte. They were treated for hypothermia and released with no further known injuries. The body of Katherine Prescott from St. Petersburg, Fla. was found along the shoreline following the Brady’s rescue.

Search scaled back for missing Lake Powell boater

Wednesday, May 06, 2009

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The search is being scaled back for a Florida man missing since April 25 after a boat with six people aboard sank in Lake Powell in southern Utah.

The bodies of three people were recovered in the days after the 20-foot boat disappeared. Two other people survived. Crews have been looking for Robert Prescott, of St. Petersburg, Fla. The boat apparently took on water and went down in stiff winds and high waves.

Brian Sweatland, a spokesman for Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, says the amount of time spent searching is being scaled back. He says a decision will be made in the coming days whether to continue using sonar equipment to search for the boat.

The boaters included two retired couples from Florida and one from Arizona.
