Confusion over two incidents roils S.H.

Hope, Ark. -
Confusion over the alleged runaway disappearance of two Spring Hill area teens, and an incident Wednesday at the campus of the Spring Hill Schools merged into rumors of threatened violence against the school which Hempstead County lawmen were investigating Thursday.
Hempstead County Sheriff Jerry Crane said Thursday morning that rumors of violence against students or the campus at Spring Hill were being investigated.

“We were not told that there were any threats,” Crane said.
He said rumors circulated around the Spring Hill community Wednesday after the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Department issued a statement concerning the alleged runaway disappearance of Megan Honeyman, 16, and Mykala O’Haver, 14.

Crane said, at the same time, Spring Hill school officials called sheriff’s deputies to the campus on Wednesday regarding a student who became unmanageable.
“They had a problem with a juvenile at the school yesterday, and I think some people put it out that this juvenile might come back and try to do something,” he said.

Crane said the two separate incidents somehow became merged and confused in the public mind. He said the alleged runaway disappearance of the two girls is being investigated in connection with the possibility that the girls were aided in their disappearance by a male adult.

“And, there is the possibility that he may face charges,” Crane said.
Honeyman is described as a white female, standing 5-feet, 8-inches tall, weighing 160 pounds, with long brown hair, and brown eyes.
O’Haver is described as a white female, standing 5-feet, 6-inches tall, weighing 200 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
Both girls were reported to have been seen last about 11 p.m. Tuesday at Honeyman’s residence on Arkansas Highway 29 South, accoriding to the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Department.

“We feel like they’re not here, but that they’re with someone else,” he said. “They’ve been entered as runaways. I think where there are two things here, that’s where the mix up is coming from.
“They have nothing to do with each other,” he emphasized
Crane said the juvenile who was the subject of the disturbance call Wednesday has been put into the custody of his parents. He said he was unaware of any threats against others in Spring Hill that were made in connection with that incident.

Spring Hill Schools Superintendent Dickie Williams said Thursday that the confusion on campus stemmed from rumors about text messaging by the two female students which may have been taken out of context.
“We’ve got a lot of confusion down here,” Williams said. “It’s got the parents concerned, and I understand that.”
He said a single text message allegedly from one or both of the girls appeared to have been the basis for rumors circulating on campus about violence during a planned volleyball game in Spring Hill on Thursday afternoon.
“I’m not certain there has been more than one message from the girls themselves, and that did not involve the school at all,” Williams said.
But, parents were being called by students to be taken home, Williams said.
“We have very few students at our high school; and, I haven’t talked to the elementary school, yet,” he said.
Williams said classes will be conducted through the rest of the day Thursday, and will be conducted Friday.
“Letting school out is not the way to handle that,” he said. “That only creates the opportunity for someone to make a little threat of their own just to let school out; but, you have to take it seriously.”
Consequently, he said, law enforcement became involved.
Williams said the volleyball game planned for Thursday would likey be cancelled because too few students would be on campus.

Family members reported that 16-year-old Megan Honeyman and 14-year-old Mykala O'Haver are missing and were last seen 11 p.m. Tuesday night at Honeyman's home.. That would make the date 5/5/09. On 5/5/09 Megan's myspace status read "Unsure", on 5/6/09 at 12:20AM (so just an hour and 20 after the girls were last seen), William's status was updated to read: "Back to the acdemy for a while" and his mood was rockin'.

Leads me to believe that if the girls did run away with him, then they were either already at his house at the time he updated his page, or the time line is mixed up somewhere.

HEMPSTEAD COUNTY, AR (KSLA) - Two girls missing from Hempstead County since May 6 were found Sunday in Michigan, 900 miles from home.

The Hempstead County Sheriff's Office said they got a call just before noon Sunday about the girl's discovery.

Investigators say 34-year-old William Gilbert, Jr. was pulled over in Jackson County, MI for a traffic violation. Inside the car with Gilbert was 16-year-old Megan Honeyman. When the trooper learned the pair was being sought by Hempstead County, there were taken to the State Police headquarters.

Troopers later found 14-year-old Mykala O' Haver at a bus stop in Detroit.

Hempstead County sent deputies to Michigan to bring the two girls home.

William Gilbert was taken to the Jackson County Jail awaiting extradition back to Hempstead County. He's charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Minor, which is a felony.
