Howard Piner

BRIGHTON, TN -- Family and friends of a missing Tipton County man are asking for your help.

Forty year-old Howard Piner of Brighton has been missing since Wednesday, May 6, 2009. The father of three left his home for a doctor's appointment in Raleigh, but never showed up.

Investigators say Piner's credit card was used at a nearby gas station minutes before his scheduled appointment.

"You would know where Howard was. He would not have left his family stranded and no contact. His cell phone has been turned off and there is no bank activity going on," says Beverly, a family friend.

Piner is the chief anesthetist at “Bowden Medical Center” in Memphis.

Piner was supposed to show up for an 8:00 a.m. doctor's appointment Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Methodist Hospital North at Austin Peay and New Covington Pike, but he didn't make it. At 7:30 a.m., investigators say Piner's debit card was used at a “Superlo” gas station pump seven miles south of the hospital on Covington Pike, but there has been no activity since.

Chief Donna Turner with the Tipton County Sheriff's Office says investigators were able to look at the surveillance video at that gas station, but it is not clear who was using the debit card because a pump was blocking the camera's view.

Howard Piner was last seen driving his 2005 grey two tone Ford F-150 crew cab truck with Tennessee tag 303 GDC.

BRIGHTON, Tenn. - A Tipton County man vanished after leaving his home in Brighton, Wednesday morning.
40 year old Lamar "Howard" Piner was scheduled for an 8 am doctor's appointment at Memphis Orthopedic Group off Highway 14 Wednesday.
He never showed up for the appointment.
His wife, Jeannie Piner says, "Throughout the day he didn't answer the phone. At that time I was thinking this was not right for him not to answer the phone or for him not to call me."
While there's a gas station next to where his appointment was, Piner's credit card was used half an hour before the appointment to buy gas at Super Low, 3.6 miles east of the doctor's office. He would have passed several other gas stations along the way.
Tipton County Sheriff's Deputies say surveillance video from the gas station shows the missing man's truck, but they can't tell who's inside it.
Piner's credit card hasn't been used since and his cell phone was turned off 10 minutes after the gas was bought.
Jeannie Piner says, "All his friends are around here, the pastor of our church and other friends are around here, I've called and they haven't heard anything from him."
Piner's wife reported him missing Wednesday night. He hasn't shown up for work at Bowden Surgery Center on Monroe where he is an anesthesia provider.
Right now, all his wife and three boys can do is sit and wait. "We're just staying prayerful, trying to stay prayerful and hope we find him," said Jeannie.
Memphis Police and Shelby County Sheriff's deputies are now helping Tipton County Sheriff's deputies with the case.
Piner's believed to be driving a 2005 gray Ford F-150 crew cab truck with Tennessee license plate 303-GDC.
If you've seen Lamar "Howard" Piner, call Tipton County Sheriff's Office at (901) 475-4300.

BRIGHTON, Tenn. (WMC-TV) - Authorities are searching for a Mid-South man who has not been seen or heard from since he left his home to drive to a doctor's appointment Wednesday morning.

Howard Piner of Brighton, Tennessee works in anesthesiology at the Bowden Surgery Center in Memphis. But the 40-year-old father of three boys and registered nurse never showed up for work Thursday.

Jeannie Piner says her husband left around 7:00 Wednesday morning for an 8:00 doctor's appointment at Methodist North Hospital in Raleigh.

"As the day went on and he still wasn't answering his phone...something's wrong," she said.

Jeannie Piner reported her husband missing to the Tipton County Sheriff's department Wednesday night.

Piner's debit card was last used to purchase gas at a Superlo Foods on Covington Pike at 7:45 Wednesday morning. Around that same time, the GPS device on his cell phone stopped sending a signal.

Friends say the lack of communication is out of character for Howard Piner.

While they wait for more information from Tipton County investigators, Piner's friends and loved ones are hoping for the best, but fearing the worst.

Tipton County investigators say Howard Piner was driving a 2005 two-tone silver F150 crew cab truck with Tennessee tag 303-GDC.

If you have any information regarding Piner's whereabouts, call Tipton County Sheriff's Department at (901) 475-3300.
