At about 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Payette police officers found Frank Lee Orendor's car in Centennial Park near the Snake River, but Orendor was nowhere to be found. Park workers said they noticed the idling car in the park for an hour before police arrived.
Payette Police Capt. David Platt said Orendor's family indicated that he had been despondent in recent days and might be suicidal.
"All of his family is looking for him," Platt said. He said Orendor has young children.
On Friday, sheriff's officials from Payette County and Malheur County searched the river for Orendor. Platt said another search is planned for later this week if he is not found.
A friend of Orendor's family told police that he saw Orendor walking in Payette on Friday, a day after his car was found near the river.
Anyone with information about Orendor is asked to call Platt, 642-6026 (between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.). After those hours, call Payette County Dispatch at 642-6006 ext 2.

Police search for missing Payette man
Wednesday, May 13, 2009 10:46 AM PDT
PAYETTE — The Payette Police Department is searching for a missing person police believe could be suffering from mental health problems and who has not been seen since Thursday.
Payette Police Chief Mark Clark said Payette County Sheriff’s Office deputies made contact with Frank Lee Orendor, 46, Payette, early Thursday morning when they came across his car stopped in the road at the north end of the county.
Orendor told deputies he had just stopped to pray, after which he was briefly evaluated and advised to move to the side of the road. Two hours later, Payette police located Orendor’s car parked at Centennial Park in Payette. The vehicle was left unlocked and running.
Police impounded the car and put out a missing person’s report on Orendor after he could not be found.
“We did obtain information through family that Frank was becoming somewhat delusional and may have been suffering from some form of a mental breakdown or illness,” Clark said.
Police believe it is possible Orendor may have gone into the Snake River, and Friday the Payette County Sheriff’s Office and Malheur County Sheriff’s Office put out boats and searched for about six hours but did not find anything. Another river search is planned for Thursday, Clark said, adding, historically, based on the cool temperatures, they estimated a body would not surface for about five days.
“We’re hoping that if, in fact, he is in the water that we would be able to find him,” Clark said.
He said reported sightings of Orendor were unfounded. Orendor is described as a white male, with blond hair, 5 feet 6 inches tall and 175 pounds.
Anybody with any information on Orendor should call the Payette Police Department, (208) 642-6026, or Payette County Dispatch, (208) 642-6006, ext. 2.

The Payette County Police has discontinued the search...thus they are giving up on this man and i have personally known him for many years. I will be trying everything possible the get the police department to continue the search and even calling the county commissioner and the attorney general. A very close friend (who is my family member) spoke to him the morning that he came up missing and he was excited about getting a new start and job with that friend and was suppose to met up with a friend for breakfast after they ate they were suppose to go to the new job, then when the friend came into town about 30 to 45 mins. later he was unable to contact Frank who is also known as Tankie. My family member has tried to let the police know about the conversation and the police will not return his calls. So tell me what kind of police force don't return phone calls to people who have helpful information for them and that give up after only looking a total of one day, another county in another state will be going out next week...how does that look on the police department who is "suppose" to be doing the investigation. he also has or was NEVER mentally ill or "disoriented". I know this is all a little forward but it is the truth, So if you can help me keep the search going or another Police force on this case anything or ideas will be great. Thank you all SO MUCH!!!

Effort to recover body in Snake River unsuccessful on Friday
A multi-agency effort Friday to recover a body found in the Snake River near Payette on Thursday was unsuccessful, as the body apparently was swept away by the river current.
"We never did relocate him," Payette Police Sgt. Jack Hart said Friday afternoon. Hart said searchers spent most of the day on the river, suspending the effort at about 5 p.m.
"At this point, I’m uncertain as to what next step is, or whether they will be out tomorrow," Hart said.
The river search Friday was the third effort in a week's time by members of several police agencies, including Malheur County Sheriff's Office, Payette County Sheriff's Office and Payette Police Department. Police were searching for missing Payette resident Frank Orendor, whose car was found idling in Centennial Park near the river last Thursday.
Searchers found a body under the Idaho 52 bridge near Centennial Park yesterday. It was about 20 feet from the bank, according to Payette Police Capt. David Platt.
Police won't be able to determine the identity of the body until they recover it.

The police had made a statement that they had never located a body. What they thought to be a body turned out to be a log. Nobody is sure what happened to him. All that the police know for sure is that his car was found idling at the river and he is missing. The police need to start looking into other leads just to be safe. He may not even be in the river, but the police are giving up. This family needs closure, so please let me know what I can do to get the police to listen. He needs to be found.

So I just spoke to my mom, and I guess the Weiser police have found Tanky's body. I guess that two guys out fishing found the body on May 24. And yes Tanky was delirious when last seen, seeing as how he lived with my mom I think she would know first hand. And Tanky in his right mind would have never even been down by the water because he didnt know how to swim.

Missing Payette man's body found in Snake River
01:50 PM MDT on Tuesday, May 26, 2009
PAYETTE -- The Washington County Sheriff says the body of a Payette man missing since May 6 has been retrieved from the Snake River.
Sheriff Marvin Williams says a group of fisherman found Frank Orendor's body Saturday night in the river about five miles west of Weiser.
The 46-year-old's Ford Escort was found with the motor running in Centennial Park nearly three weeks ago.
Search crews combed the river on several occasions but the search turned up empty.
Williams says they were able to identify Orender by his clothing and identification in his wallet.
He says the likely cause of death is drowning, but official word still has to come from the coroner.
Family members say Orendor didn't seem like himself just prior to when he went missing.

Authorities recover body
By Larry Hurrle - Independent-Enterprise
Thursday, May 28, 2009 9:00 AM CDT
Authorities have recovered the body of a Payette man missing since May 7.
Payette Police Chief Mark Clark said anglers on the Oregon side of the Snake River west of Weiser discovered what they believed to be a body floating in the river and alerted Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Clark said the body was discovered around 5 p.m. Saturday, about five miles west of Weiser near a popular cat fishing hole. He said by the time Washington County deputies arrived, the anglers had pulled the body to the shore on the Oregon side of the river.
“We determined, through ID, that it was our missing person, Frank Orendor,” Clark said.
Clark said the body was transported to Thomason Funeral Home in Weiser and was scheduled to be brought to Payette Tuesday.
“We’re going to conduct an autopsy just to be thorough,” Clark said.
Clark said authorities dealing with the recover of Orendor’s body did not suspect foul play in his death.
Orendor was reported missing May 7 after authorities in Payette County spotted his car on a country road. When authorities approached Orendor, he said he had stopped to pray and officers checked to make sure he was OK. Two hours later, officers discovered Orendor’s vehicle at Centennial Park in Payette near the river and still running. At that time, he was listed as missing.
Authorities from Payette, Payette County, Washington County, Malheur County and the Idaho Department of Fish and Game launched a river search for Orendor May 14. Officers using an underwater camera located what they believed was a body late in the afternoon of May 14, but by the time divers were able to get in the water, a storm had come up and the current in the river had increased to the point divers were not able to get in the river. When officials returned to the area May 15, they were unable to locate Orendor’s body, which they believed to be near the docks at Centennial Park.
Clark said officers made patrols on the river the following week, but were unsuccessful at locating any sign of Orendor.
“It is our experience that it takes one to two weeks for a body to surface, depending on the temperature of the water and the flow,” Clark said earlier in the search. He said he hoped the body would not snag on something in the river and never be recovered.
“I’m glad to see this come to a conclusion, not only for us, but for the family as well,” Clark said.

Police: Payette man found in river may have committed suicide
Tuesday, May 26th, 2009
(Corrects time and location of body recovery from earlier post)
PAYETTE - Frank Lee Orendor of Payette may have committed suicide by going into the Snake River earlier this month, Payette Police Chief Mark Clark said today.
Washington County Sheriff's Office deputies recovered the body of the 46-year-old man in the Snake River near Weiser Saturday night, Washington County Sheriff Marvin Williams said.
"We suspect ... that he went into the river intentionally," Clark said.
Relatives told police that Orendor had been talking about suicide and that he could walk on water, Clark said. Clark said he believes Orendor was unemployed at the time of his death.
Officials found Orendor's car idling in Centennial Park in Payette the morning of May 7. Payette Police found his body in the river May 14 using an underwater camera. But they could not recover the body because of poor river conditions.
Washington County deputies later recovered Orendor's body on the Malheur County, Ore., side of the Snake River about five miles west of Weiser and 17 miles from where it was first discovered.
Fishermen spotted the body just before officials recovered it, Williams said.
Payette County Coroner Keith Schuller said he will take Orendor's body to Ada County for an autopsy Thursday to determine cause of death.

thank you Iwish the family wouldnt say he took his life they no better i beleive it was an accident he couldnt swim very well Tanks mom
Hello Sandra, My dad's name is Joe Wilson. They worked together at parson's years ago. my dad taught Tanky how to drive truck and helped him get his CDL. He was a good man. I don't know if you remember us but my mom and I used to deliver your newspaper in new plymouth at least i think it was you. We don't think he would take his own life. my dad spoke to him that morning and told him that if he wanted to that he could come to work with him in nampa and also the offered him a room at their house and they could travel together. He told my dad ok and the were suppose to go to Menn's for breakfast but he never called back like he was suppose to.
I wish something more could have been done. I'm really sorry. When I found out that the were calling off the search for that day I called the state police and if they didn't find anything on Friday I was going to call the attorney General and have them do something but then people seen them look a few days later so i didn't
also friends are gonna get together and do a small memorial for all who wants to come. I'll let you know when I know when it will be for all who wants to come.
