CVH patient still missing

MIDDLETOWN — A 71-year-old man is still missing after running away from Connecticut Valley Hospital Friday night. Fred Concannon was last seen at the hospital around 9:30 p.m. Friday. Hospital staff noticed he was missing around 10 p.m., said Wayne Dailey, spokesman for the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, which runs CVH.
Hospital police immediately began searching the facility’s grounds and the surrounding area, Dailey said.
Dailey said it is not procedure to notify neighbors. Middletown police was notified within 30 minutes of Concannon’s disappearance, and a missing persons teletype was sent to all police authorities in Connecticut, he said.
“At the time Mr. Concannon left the hospital, he was not considered dangerous to others,” Dailey said. “However, his level of risk becomes increasingly difficult to predict the longer he remains without supervision and treatment.”
Dailey said Monday that Concannon may be out of state.
“We are working with appropriate law enforcement authorities who are trying to locate him and return him to Connecticut,” he said. “Anyone who has information concerning his whereabouts should contact police immediately.”
Concannon was last seen wearing dark pants, a dark shirt and sneakers. He is about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 165 pounds with gray hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion.
Dailey could release little information about Concannon’s condition because of privacy laws, but said Concannon has Level 3 privileges, meaning he must be accompanied by staff when he walks around hospital grounds.
“We are investigating how he got out of the building,” Dailey said. This is not the first time Concannon has walked away from CVH.
