Kentucky Detectives Search for Missing Teen
Updated: May 13th, 2009 09:33 AM EDT
SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. -- The search is on for a Bullitt County teenager who has been missing for nearly two weeks.
Detectives are now looking into whether foul play is involved.
Tori Lynn Bowen's mother said the 17-year-old disappeared from their Shepherdsville home on April 29 and that no one has seen or heard from her since.
"We just don't know what to think about it. We keep trying to think she ran off with a friend and hanging out but we don't know and now none of her friends have seen her," Melissa Bowen said. "I got up about 9:30 a.m., got ready for work -- had to be at work at 11 a.m. She was still asleep when I left and my husband works third shift so by the time he got up when our son got home about 2:30 p.m. she was gone.
The family said that the girl's purse and tooth brush were gone as well. Bowen also said her daughter deleted a MySpace Web page sometime after her disappearance.
She said her daughter's never run away before and has a good relationship with her parents. Though, she admits the teen has an independent streak.
"She thought she was all grown, you know. She was still a baby to us," Bowen said.
Bowen said she fears her daughter could be in danger. She has no money, no cell phone, and has made no effort to contact anyone.
That's why Bullitt County Detective Scotty McGaha said police have stepped in.
"Could be some foul play, due to the fact that she's never done this before, gone missing or run off or anything in the past," McGaha said.
Mcgaha said detectives have run down several leads but have come up empty.
"We're going to the public to find out if anyone may know where this girl is. If she is with someone, we'd like her to contact the Bullitt County Sheriff's Department just to let her parents know she's OK or what's going on," McGaha said.
Bowen's mother said police have checked with the girl's ex-boyfriend and found no evidence she's been with him.
Tori Lynn Bowen is described as standing 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing about 123 pounds and was last seen wearing a University of Kentucky shirt and capris pants.
"If she's watching, I just want her to know that you know, we love her and we miss her and we're scared to death. We don't know what she's doing and if she wants to be grown-up, be grown-up, but be grown-up and call home and let your parents know you're OK," Bowen said.
Anyone with information about her whereabouts is asked to call the sheriff’s department at 502-543-2514.
