Searchers Come Up Empty Looking for Fresno Man
Last Update: 9:17 am
A four-hour search and rescue operation ends with no sign of a man who went missing along the San Joaquin River.
William Franklin Richards Junior disappeared in Northwest Fresno near Herndon and Monroe around 3:30 PM Monday afternoon.
Sheriff's deputies tell CBS47 Richards got into an argument with his family then ran down a steep embankment and vanished into some trees.
The Highway Patrol checked the area with a helicopter as Fresno Fire launched a boat and searched the river but they could not find the man.
Investigators say it is possible Richards survived his fall and walked away. Brent stalker with the Fresno county sheriff’s department said, “There’s lots of places to hide obviously and if he doesn’t want to be found, then it makes our job hard.”
Search and rescue crews told CBS47 they do not plan to search the area again.
A missing persons report has been filed for William Franklin Richards Junior of Fresno. He's 53-years-old with long blond hair, a mustache and goatee. Richards was wearing a white shirt and torn lizard skin boots.
