Thanks so much Sprocket! :love0081: I think it's very possible Judge Fidler will follow AJ's recommendation. How about you? At any rate it looks like it will be a "life" sentence.

I did a short segment on Talk Radio One today. I'm on for about 12 minutes starting around 9:30 pm.

Harriet Ryan reported a lot of what's been going on in her article here. (http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-spector29-2009may29,0,7701046.story)

Updated: 05/29/2009 11:24:50 AM PDT

LOS ANGELES—Music producer Phil Spector has been sentenced to 19 years to life in prison for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson.

A Los Angeles judge sentenced Spector on Friday to 15 years to life for second-degree murder and four years for personal use of a gun. The judge is also ordering restitution payments.

A jury convicted the 69-year-old Spector in the fatal shooting of Clarkson at his home in 2003.

Spector plans an appeal.

A judge in Los Angeles Friday sentenced legendary record producer Phil Spector to 19-years to life in prison for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson at his 30-bedroom mansion in Alhambra, California.

The eccentric Spector -- known for his bizarre collection of wigs-- was convicted of second-degree murder last April for the 2003 killing of Clarkson, who was shot in the mouth after a party at Spector's home
.

It took two trials to convict Spector. His first trial was abandoned in 2007 after a jury failed to reach a unanimous decision.

Clarkson, 40, had been working as a hostess at the House of Blues in Los Angeles, and went home with Spector on the night of her death.

Lana Clarkson appeared in cult 1980s film Barbarian Queen

Clarkson -- a actress-- has appeared in a couple of 1980s cult films such as Barbarian Queen and Fast Times at Ridgemont High; then, her acting career had hit the rocks.

Spector had arrived at the club with waitress Kathy Sullivan, before setting his sights on Clarkson.

Spector's Brazilian chauffeur, Adriano De Souza, said his boss appeared to be drunk and that Clarkson was initially reluctant to go home with him.

She was found dead in the foyer of his house in the early hours of the morning.

A holster that matched the snub-nosed Colt Cobra revolver that Spector used to kill her was found in a drawer in the foyer.

Spector's chauffeur called authorities , saying: "I think my boss killed somebody", after Spector emerged from his home with a gun.

He told jurors Spector had said: "I think I killed somebody." The defense argued he had misheard his employer.

The producer was taken into custody about 40 minutes after the shooting and had to be subdued by officers using a stun gun.

The "Wall Of Sound" producer had been linked with several gun incidents with various women, trial witnesses claimed, over the years before the Clarkson shooting.

Spector's attorney Doron Weinberg says that the 69-year old producer , who worked with icons
such as John Lennon, Tina Turner and Leonard Cohen, has kept his spirits high during the trial and sentencing process by focusing on an appeal.

"He's adjusting to the circumstances and settling down to wait out an appeal with high hopes," Weinberg said. "He feels he will win the appeal."

Faith, thank you!

I read on Sprocket's blog, Rachelle brought a brown wig and also a suit for Phil Spector to wear today. I'm trying to picture others I had seen convicted and sentenced, and cannot remember if they had been in their jailhouse attire or not for sentencing. Seems strange to me for him to be able to 'dress-up' for today!

lost indie, I don't think the pictures above are from today, but they might be tho. Sprocket posted Rachelle wore her hair down today, which isn't what the one pic shows. Also the other pic is of SP outside, and I doubt he entered court as shown above. Most likely at least he would have been in a holding room where he did his changing act and donned his head of hair!

Wonder why he had to change if he is adjusting so well? :francis:

It seems I recall John Couey in a suit when he was sentenced.

Can he wear his wig in jail?

Thanks again Faith! Well no doubt by now the suit has been put away! I too wondered about PS wearing a wig in prison, but I doubt it very very much. It would be a good place to hide his treasures! :girl_haha:

Thank you, Sprocket, for being our eyes in the courtroom. Not sure how I feel about the sentencing, but I do appreciate the work you've done to bring us the news through the blog. Excellent!

Trying real hard to make sense of the incident that was told to you regarding a job offer. Hope there is a little more to the incident that wasn't told that might make it understandable.

Phil Spector's Wife, Rachelle, Breaks Her Silence

Rachelle Spector, 28, scoffs at the notion that she's a gold digger, saying she's devoted to her role as the spokeswoman for the producer's cause and chief financial officer of his music empire.

By Harriet Ryan Los Angeles Times
9:07 PM PDT, June 4, 2009

LOS ANGELES -- Rachelle Spector arrived for lunch at the Beverly Hills Hotel with one French-manicured hand gripping a hot pink Blackberry.

"I never know when he is going to be allowed to call," she said as she laid the mobile device carefully on a velvety banquette. "Whenever he calls, I answer."

Ten miles east of the swank restaurant's cloth napkins and chopped salad, her husband, Phil Spector, the record producer and as of six weeks ago, convicted murderer, was in L.A. County Jail, the first leg of a 19-years-to-life sentence.

"He's locked in a 5-by-9 cell, 23 1/2 hours a day," Rachelle Spector said. "They treat people worse than animals. I want that known."

During Spector's criminal trials, his 28-year-old wife was a constant and colorful presence, striding the courthouse halls in stiletto heels and engaging in a series of public spats with perceived enemies, including the trial judge. But a gag order barred her from speaking to the media and she remained a mystery, her unwavering attendance at the proceedings begging the daily question: Why would a pretty young woman tie her fate to a much older man accused of murder?

With Spector's sentencing last week, the gag order vanished and Rachelle Spector stepped forward to talk about her marriage and her new roles as a spokeswoman for his cause, coordinator of his appeals and chief financial officer of his multimillion-dollar music businesses.

They are perhaps unlikely responsibilities for a former waitress who admits that she was not familiar with Spector, 69, or his music when they met six years ago in a West Hollywood restaurant. She knows their 41-year age difference and the fact that he married her while under indictment make many doubt the sincerity of their relationship.

"Younger woman, older man, gold digger, whatever," she said with a little laugh. "I don't take anything from my husband, and I never have. I'm a good person, but people don't see any of that or know how hard I work."
